Upper End Indian restaurant with tasty dishes that are on
Upper End Indian restaurant with tasty dishes that are on the expensive side given the small quantities served. Although it is definitely worth going if in the mood, you can't expect to feast without running a large bill. $19 a dish. 4.5/5 stars as a dinner spot.
Be the first to ReplyI have dined in a few times and gotten take out a few times.
This has previously been my go to neighborhood spot but the last few times I have been I noticed the portions are getting smaller and the prices are going up! I ordered a tandoori chicken yesterday for takeout and they gave me 3 small pieces! Mostly bone, for nearly $20. The food is good, yes, but in my opinion not worth the expense. I will be looking elsewhere next time I'm craving Indian food.

This place is PHENOMENAL! The lamb appetizer, the butter chicken, the naan (any flavor)-- all delicious! The service is just as great. Cannot wait to go back to this place.
Be the first to ReplyFood was great.
Portion sizes were a bit small - could have been better. Also the tables for 2 were extremely cramped. There is no way 2 people can dine in comfort with their entrees and plates in those micro sized tables. Menu is difficult to read. Not well structured. Service was great. Probably will return for the food taste.

This is hard to write, but after almost a decade, it seems the sheen is finally wearing off from Moti Mahal. I don't know if it's the pandemic or the fact that Gaurav Anand has a new baby in Baazi, but the quality of food has gone down and it doesn't seem to be bouncing back. The dal is now absolute garbage. The recipe is different, with chana dal thrown in and barely any simmering to get the right texture. The signature dish is a shell of its former self, and the interior of the restaurant also looks like it was abandoned a few years ago. I loved this place more than literally any other restaurant in the country and have spent thousands of dollars here over the past decade, which is why no one is sorrier than me to see it for what it is these days. If you're looking for good dal makhani, go somewhere else.
Be the first to ReplyFour star food, standard Indian.
Beware, they present Square online payment tablet with tips suggestions calculated including tax. I'm happy to tip on the bill but tipping on NY taxes is wrong.

Been looking for an Indian restaurant here that can live up to the standards of Indian restaurants I've had before. Have to say Moti Mahal Delux surpassed expectations and has definitely met the standards. Golgappa shots are definitely fun and worth getting. Butter chicken really lived up to the hype, and lamb chops are tender and well seasoned. Aloo gobi was wonderfully done and a much needed addition to all the other meat dishes.
Be the first to ReplyThe lamb biryani was amazing, perfectly spiced.
Saag creamy and unique flavors. Very pleased!
Be the first to ReplyWalked in without a reservation and we're seated right away.
Waiting staff was very friendly. Beautiful ambience and the food was delicious. I recommend the subz panchmael and the paneer makhani. I think this place is, without a doubt, the best Indian food on the upper east side (and I have tried everywhere around the area)!
Be the first to ReplyBest Indian food on the UES.
Excellent staff, extremely taste food. And even a very nice ambiance inside. This is my go-to spot.
Be the first to ReplyOrdered takeout since we are down the block.
.. the pick up was a bit confusing since you actually go outside the business to the back and walk into the kitchen. Whatever they are doing their best I guess, but it took a few minutes for someone to even notice I was waiting? Maybe they were just busy, it happens... (-1/2 star)Roti bread was getting cold when I got home. (Literally 1 block away, and I picked up within 5 minutes of getting the "food is ready" notice). (-1/2 star) Then we found a long black hair in the saag dish, though we did get a refund from Grubhub, found that fairly disgusting. I get it, hair happens, but it was VERY long and noticeable. (-2-3 stars)I will say overall dishes are on the expensive side and have quite small portions as well... three very small samosas are 11$? Side of rice, 5$? Crazy. (Also note, samosas lack flavor overall and rice needed salt to bring out any flavor). I will say I did find cardamom pods in the rice, which is actually a good sign of closer to authentic cooking...Two hours later, having major stomach problems and nausea. I didn't even eat the saag dish but had a bit of the Chana Ma and the daal and still had major issues. (-2 stars)TLDR: I would skip this place and opt for another cuisine. Your mind, bathroom, and wallet will thank you.
Be the first to ReplyCame here with my boyfriend last night.
It was my first time eating Indian food that wasn't just Indian takeout and my boyfriend had never had Indian food before. It was AMAZING! Everything we got was so flavorful and delicious from apps to dessert. We got a cute little corner seat and were able to get in without a reservation which we were so thankful for. Will be back
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service and food exceptional! Relaxing atmosphere.
Also felt safe to dine here in these pandemic times.

I haven't had too much experience with Indian food and my friend recommended this place. She ordered everything...and I was along for the ride. The shooters at the start were good with some being spicier than others...I do zero spice, like hot, mouth on fire, so I was glad to have other people try before diving in. I don't recall what we ordered for food, but it was all delicious. Even the desserts were good. I'll be back for sure!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and service.
We ordered the traditional dal, bhindi and paneer along with lacha parantha. All the items were prepared well and lacha parantha was exceptionally good. The waiter was very nice and helpful . Will recommend the restaurant and possibly will come again on my next visit to city. Keep up the good work
Be the first to ReplyWe braved the borderline temperatures to eat at Moti Mahal
We braved the borderline temperatures to eat at Moti Mahal Delux outdoors. There were heat lamps and one side of the enclosure was open to the elements. It was warm enough. Most of the diners were indoors. The waitstaff were pleasant. We were comped some pappadum with the usual sauces. The food overall was really good. The seasoning and tastes were a cut above the average Indian restaurant. Things tend to be spicy, even things that usually aren't. The okra fritters were excellent. The samosas were good, but spicer than usual. The waiter assured me that the chicken kebabs were white meat, but they turned out to be minced chicken patties of questionable provenance. The entrees were excellent. The tandoori chicken had a delicious complex flavor with a kick. The shrimp masala was a standout. The lamb chops had been recommended by a friend. They were nicely seasoned, but not the epiphany that we were expecting. The chicken tikka masala and breads were on point. Very good Indian restaurant that is calibrated for an Upper East Side clientele. We'll be back.
Be the first to ReplyFor starters this place is always empty and like many
For starters this place is always empty and like many restaurants, they make a descent amount of money from delivery services (no biggie). However, I have dined into this restaurant many times and have watched the employees yell at delivery drivers from grub hub, Ubereats, etc. to go through the back door to pick up the food as if they're embarrassed to have delivery drivers into their establishment. However, I have seen non-delivery people come in and pick up their order from the main entrance (weird but no biggie). However, today I came in to pick up my food after calling for takeout and was immediately yelled at to go to the back! Of course, I refused as I was not a delivery driver. But regardless, this place is extremely disrespectful to loyal customers (now former customer) and honestly classless for making anyone, delivery driver or not, enter their restaurant through the back door. Like seriously, this is not the Jim Crow south!
Be the first to ReplyThis is my favorite Indian restaurant in all of New York
This is my favorite Indian restaurant in all of New York City and I think a lot of people also have that opinion. The menu is very large and can be intimidating but the staff is always there to give a recommendation. If you're new to Indian food or want to try something new, this is the spot to do it. The Golgoppa shots are super yummy and fun, and I also highly recommend the salty lassi (especially if you are into the Persian drink doogh or any yogurt based drink for that matter). The butter chicken is of course a classic here but my favorite is actually the chicken korma. I've been here enough times with enough groups of people that we've ordered from all over the menu and I can easily say that nothing has disappointed. I've come here for dates and also with large groups and always have had a great time. I recommend making a reservation especially if you're going on the weekend or around any holidays!

Moti Mahal Delux is our comfort, soul warming, close to home place, where every dish reminds me of the Mughlai food I've had back home. My favorite Malai kofta place in the city. From their rich black dal to tandoori kebabs, everything is spot on! My recommendations: Dahi palak kebab! So good! It will melt in your mouth: A mix of yoghurt, spinach, spices and fried to perfection; Paneer Tikka Shashlik, so soft, delicious!; Khumani/Malai Kofta, which is my favorite curry. But they make it awesome!; Laccha Paratha which is only available on their dine-in menu; Daal Makhani: so creamy and rich!! Highly recommend for dine-in. Take out is good as well but you'll notice the difference by coming in

Amazing food, fairly priced, very diversified menu with great dishes. We had the chicken butter that was absolutely amazing, the spinach lamb and the chicken tikka tomato onion. All three were great. Would definitely come back . I'm giving it 4 because they charged extra for rice which I found quite absurd.
Be the first to ReplyGave me food poisoning.

Be the first to ReplyThe best Indian food.
