Ambiiance, dum sum and Jazz go together great and man what Jazz! Top musicians hosting a Wednesday jam session with talented up and coming players sitting in. The audience screamed their support. Felt like it was the 60's again.

Obviously, we came for the jazz and were not disappointed. A solid performance from the The Tomoko Funaki Hard Bop Collective while we enjoyed a very nice pinot and a great selection of beer and cider. The food was also surprisingly creative, with a lot going on in most of the dishes. Recommend the crispy potstickers and the Duck/Pork Bao. Could have done with a longer set and less regiment to allow the vibe to sync in more. Oh, yes, nice bathrooms. Parking can be had for $15 at a lot on Oak and Franklin a couple blocks away. Lots of seating options, and in the intimate setting, none were bad. The friendliness of the staff - hostess, bartender, and especially the waiter were greatly appreciated, while the waiter's attentiveness and care were second to none. We'll definitely be back with friends.

Wow! Such a treasure in San Francisco!! The food and drinks were excellent! We came for the music and were very impressed with this romantic little spot.
Be the first to ReplyReally good food.
Nice ambiance. Not great for having a conversation when there's a live band.

Mr Tipple's is a cozy jazz nook, nestled just off Market Street. Outside the entry isn't lit, so it almost looks closed, but inside is a warm, perfectly lit, artistically decorated space with small tables where you can sit and enjoy live music, dumplings, dessert, and various snacks. I suggest ordering the pair of Old Fashioneds if you're with a date; it comes with two glasses, one large ice cube and a slice of citrus per glass, and a bottle of extra alcohol served at the table to top them off. We came in for the 10:15 Valentine's show; the servers were attentive and friendly, and the music was fabulous. I'm already talking with friends about returning soon. Highly recommend.

This jazz bar is truly lovely! It gives speakeasy vibes with the graffiti door and curtain that masks the stage & bar area. I was able to get a walk in on a slower Saturday evening after about 15-20 minutes. It's nice to be able to still listen to music even while waiting. There's ample of seating in the back bar/standing area. I thought the CBD drinks were really smart for people who don't necessarily like alcohol. However it does make you a little tired. The music and service was great. Definitely would recommend to anyone!

Love Mr Tipple's! The ambiance is intimate but vibey and the service is always great. We tried their food and it was a lot better than expected! The band is super talented and create such a cozy atmosphere. Definitely recommend!
Be the first to ReplyReally enjoyed the atmosphere.
Very Cute and intimate. Went with a friend. We were celebrating our birthdays. I made a reservation last minute and am glad I did. Our server was pleasant. The food was good especially the shu mai.

Oh take me back again and again! This place is the epitome of the phrase 'never a dull moment.'If you are a lover of jazz, admire passionate musicians and adore a cozy table for two by candle light, this is about to be your go to place.I cannot rave about Mr. Tipple's enough. My favorite time to go is during dinner because not only do they have impeccable cocktails, but they also serve dim sum. Imagine that, jazz, delicious shu-mai and a cocktail in hand? It's as if you're seat has transported you to Chinatown in 1920 and you have no other plans except to relish in the midnight hour. I recommend the following:1. Tip your waiter generously2. Tip the band generously (bring cash)3. Let the music take you So if you're nearby, or want to spend a night out in SF. Book a reservation at Mr. Tipples and...Create food memories,Isabelle Pinard
Be the first to ReplyWent to Mr Tipples on a Saturday evening with reservations.
Paid $50 and some change for a close table to enjoy the music. Sure am glad we did as the bar area was packed by patrons chatting away with little interest in the great musicians. Had dim sum from the restaurant and the food was amazing. Service was very good. Cons: the 90 minute time frame on the musicians was definitely not good. Even they felt it was not enough speaking it out. Over a good experience but felt rushed. Yes we could have paid $50 more after 90 minutes to stay seated or could have joined the chatting crowd behind us for free. We choose to go elsewhere after our 90 minutes ended and take our great memories of great jazz and a very good meal.

I didn't particularly enjoy the one drink I ordered but I am not going to review the food or the drinks.I was in Jazz heaven. I am not qualified to comment on the quality of the music but I WILL. I cannot believe that i made it here only in 2023. I absolutely loved the vibe, the artists and everything about this place. Would highly recommend if you have company that enjoys jazz and couple of drinks or food to go with it.

Another dream came true for me and my boyfriend! We've always wanted to go to this place. Finally, we made it! We chose this place to celebrate our 3rd Valentine's Date together. This place is magical, romantic, intimate and just a night to remember! We will definitely and absolutely come back to this place!Thank you for making our Valentine's Date special!
Be the first to ReplyIt's the best bar in the world.
It's the best place in the world. Yet somehow it just keeps getting better. We've been coming here since we moved to SF around 2018 and it's still our favorite place in the city, and really, our favorite place on this green earth. It was great when they added dim sum, but the food just keeps getting better. The champagne list likewise has become a rotating list of grower producers, and at a live jazz bar? We're spoiled! The bartenders are attentive and friendly, the music is, of course, incredible. Some of the best live jazz acts there are, anywhere, period, and awesome vinyl on in between. God, I love Mr Tipple's. This place makes me thankful to live here, now. This is a moment in time. Visit now, while it's your chance to share in it.
Be the first to ReplyCute place for a date.
Food was okay! Order the gai lan, shumai, and potstickers. My favorite out the 3 was definitely the shumai. Other notes: Parking was hard. Establishment was clean!

Dim Sum at a Jazz club on a Friday night? Sign me up! This is such a great and creative date night spot. It is a bit loud so I wouldn't recommend it for a first date but as a "we haven't gone on a date in a while wanna grab dim sum and listen to jazz instrumentalists knock our socks off?" It's perfect. The food and drinks are definitely on the pricier side as even on top of the entrance fee you need to spend at least $20 each person on food/drinks. I'm my opinion for the performers you get, it's honestly worth it to splurge. The food was really good highly recommend the clay pots would skip on the spicy wontons as they were spicy and dry but everything else on their dim sum menu was really good. Service was great they gave us a sweet 10 min warning before we had to give up our seats to the next party as there's a 1.5 hour limit per reservation. Totally makes sense to allow as many people to experience the talent in this jazz room. Will definitely be back again soon!
Be the first to ReplyOn January 7th my family and I visited Mr.
Tipples for our first time. Our son was visiting us from college, knowing how my he loves Jazz music my wife and I decided to take him to Mr. Tipples for a special night. We enjoyed our evening. The music was incredible! Great services. Our great night quickly turned upside down when we paid our bill. Everything was fine until a few days later my credit card was charged twice with 2 different amounts. I call my credit card company, got a claim on it to erase one of the fees. I also found out that, on that day, on top of purchasing tickets to attend MR. Tipples on that evening ($60 for tickets), AFTER I signed my credit card, Mr. Tipples charged me extra $45 for cover. Mind you that the $45 was add to my card AFTER I signed the receipt. I tried to call Mr. Tipple, someone replied to my initial message, than ignored me completely. Horrible customer service. Not once I got an explanation for the extra charge, nothing! Let's say... we are not going back. Hopefully this review will create awareness for other to check carefully their receipts and to make sure no extra fees are added to their bill. What a shame.
Be the first to ReplyJazz and Chinese food was a combo I never knew I needed!
Jazz and Chinese food was a combo I never knew I needed! You have to pay $15 a person to reserve a seat. Warning: there is a $30 fee per person if you cancel, but you may be able to reschedule once for free and if there is any more rescheduling beyond that there will be a charge. I had to reschedule because of a back injury that I had. I had to reschedule again because I was wary of the flooding that was going on in SF. Luckily for me, they didn't charge me for rescheduling twice and the customer service was on point, despite it being exclusively on text. We went on a weekday and I highly recommend this because there was a decent crowd, but not too overcrowded where we had to get rushed out. There is a 90 minute period of being at a table and, honestly, it feels like only minutes because time flies by when you're watching the talented performers on stage! The best thing on the menu that I would recommend is the double pork and duck bao ($18). The pork and the duck were roasted to perfection and the bao bun was fluffy and sweet like a cloud. We shared the bao buns, but we couldn't get enough of it, so we had to order another one again because it was so frickin' good! The other food was good, but could be better. The soup dumplings were small and didn't have that much soup inside. The local black cod tasted fresh, but the rice was crunchy on the bottom for some reason and the sauce on the black cod had a faint flavor. I thought it was so cool that they had drinks with CBD in them! I never went to a place that served CBD drinks, so I was excited to try it out for once. I got the Flor De Sorrel which was made of hibiscus, agave, lime, and 25 mg CBD. It had a lovely sweet flavor and I definitely felt more relaxed, enjoying the jazz music at the end of the meal.Overall, Mr. Tipple's Recording Studio is a classy, vivacious Jazz Club that offers a chance for you and your hun for a romantic musical getaway!

Perfect date night! My friend and I had originally wanted to go together but when she had to cancel at the last minute I dragged my partner with me since I had the tickets and we both had an amazing time. He swears he doesn't like Jazz but he totally does )The live Jazz is such a great ambiance in this chill lounge like space. Drinks we had were phenomenal and the dim sum was so good. Reserve a ticket - there's not a bad seat in the house so no need to upgrade your seat/table ticket to see the stage. Your table is timed but you're welcome to stay at the bar after table service. This will definitely be a spot in our date night rotation.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a nice Jazz club in SF, and it's on the cheaper
This is a nice Jazz club in SF, and it's on the cheaper side from what I gather. It's right next to Hayes Valley and is just off of Market, so it's in a popping location. You want to call ahead and make a reservation because the place is fairly popular, especially on a Friday or Saturday night. The setting is very intimate, and almost all the tables are two seaters, so I would keep that in mind if you're looking for a good date spot. They have a 90 minute limit on your table, after which they'll move you to the bar if you still want to stick around. The group playing when we went was fantastic! I'm not super into jazz, but still enjoyed their set. They also offer dim sum here, which I found to be a neat combo. There is a $20 minimum spending fee per each person in the party. The dim sum isn't the best, but it's solid and a decent serving for the price. Their cocktails were also good! One drink came in a cat mug, which was very amusing.
Be the first to ReplyAwesome little lounge with some great jazz acts.
Dropped in before dinner for a few drinks one day not realizing there was some live music. Stayed as long as possible then came back after dinner. Staff was very hospitable and allowed us to return after dinner without another cover charge.Cocktails are great! Had a few appetizers and pleasantly surprised with how good they were. Great ambience. Can't wait to catch a few more bands
Be the first to ReplyThe music and vibe was perfect; I wish I could say the same
The music and vibe was perfect; I wish I could say the same about the food and drinks. This almost got a perfect score, except for the dim sum. We got a plethora of different foods, which were all delicious. The only one that lacked in quality were the soup dumplings. It came in a slotted wooden container from a steamer. The dumplings were on some kind of wax paper when they brought it out. My guess was that they left these dumpling to sit for too long after they steamed, because all the dumpling were just stuck onto the wax paper. Almost each one ripped when we tried pulling it off the paper, and since it's in a slotted wooden container, all the soup spilled through it and onto the table and on some of our clothes. It was so dimly lit that we didn't even realize how much mess it was making. The lychee ice cream was also a bit sour due to the citrus they added. Not sure why; these are usually sweet. The vodka cocktail I got was really strong; too strong for my taste. I get vodka cocktails a lot and they really went overboard on the vodka ratio. The Jazz musicians were amazing though! And the vibe was chill and classy. Overall I'd come back, but just for wine and Jazz next time.
Be the first to ReplyWe have been to Mr Tipple's several times, and enjoyed it.
Last night was not so. The jazz band was good, and fortunately, we were seated in the second row of tables, so we could hear the music. The crowd in the bar in the back was so rude, disrespectful of the band and other customers. They were loud, rowdy and just plain rude. At least four tables of people trying to enjoy an evening of jazz got up and left. The manager said he could not do anything about it. Huh???
