Nari San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year
SUBTRACT! Oof.
So...I did not, NOT like it but I definitely will not come back. It is an insult to the Michelin population and definitely NOT worthy. There was a minimum of 98 flavors in each bite. Seriously, how many flavors do I need in my mouth at the same time?!?!? It was so hard to determine what we were eating at any given time. Don't do it! We had the most passive, worst waiter that did not listen or did not understand our queries. So we did the tasting menu. The worst combo of choices. Spicy, not spicy, spicy, not spicy...eventually everything was just spicy. We had three courses within seconds of each other where another server had to come by and ask us if we would like them to slow down a bit. Hmm-yea! We had a small table for two and kept being interrupted to move plates around to make things fit! And the same curry was repurposed on 2 of the courses and everything began to just taste the same... Ambiance, as expected for a restaurant in a hotel. Desserts...please don't get me started....
We went to Nari's for our anniversary.
The ambiance of the place was very urban garden. There were beautiful, luscious plants everywhere with exposed walls. Since it was our anniversary our menus had a little note on it for us. The server was a gem. Super quick to answer questions. Being the clutzy person that I am I dropped my drink, but they were quick to help clean it up and get me a new one. The food there was delicious and flavorful! Would completely go back to try new food. One word of advice. The enternece is through the hotel that's there.
It was a great dinner for an anniversary! They made a menu
It was a great dinner for an anniversary! They made a menu paper for us. Price and mood were good enough.
Side note I walked in not knowing I needed a reservation
Side note I walked in not knowing I needed a reservation but they accommodate only me for dinner. This stylish retreat at Hotel Kabuki In San Francisco. They offer a unique culinary experience blending Californian ingredients with contemporary Thai influences. The menu features family-style dishes elevated with a refined touch. I had the brick red bumbai curry with crispy fried eggplant, are notable for their complexity, complemented by ethereal flaky roti bread. Yum sum-o delights with bright citrus flavors enhanced by crispy shallots and peanuts. Shoot, this was deeply satisfying dish that I savor every last bite with rice. The satisfaction lingered for days!!!
Very flavorful and all the dishes were great.
The favorite was the eggplant curry. The fish appetizer is also delicious.
The food excellent, service intense and ambiance okay l.
We sat early before the restaurant filled and enjoyed everything we ate, but uneven service. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable but intense and moving. Food and drink delivery from others was by committee and uneven. Ambience was airy, leafy and cafeteria-like.

Usually never write reviews cause I think people who think theyre a "critic" is just a tool. However I do need to warn yall cause I was very disappointed and kinda shocked how they earned a star. To start I booked this restaurant for my girlfriends birthday so I was really hoping itd be a good experience as its her first star restaurant. We had the chefs tasting menu and EVERYTHING was salty from start to finish. TBH the price tag isnt worth it and your money is better spent at other restaurants in the city
wowowowowow.
i've never had a meal like this. the food was so delicious and plated so beautifully. ny favorite things were the crispy eggplant in the curry sauce and the fried fish in the lettuce wraps. the blueflower limeade was also delicious to accompany all the spicy food. service was friendly and fast. the building was decorated beautifully, with plants everywhere and really unique art. i loved the butterfly paintings upstairs. nari is a must try!
Truly delicious.
We got the chef's tasting menu and every single dish was amazing. This food is powerful, bright, and spicy. All things I love. Literally could not have improved upon the meal.

TLDR: In the iconic salt, fat, acid, heat theory to cooking, Nari adds that incredible acidity to its dishes like no other restaurant I've experienced. This was one of the first meals I've had in a long time that made me truly go "WOW", dish after dish. Service could be slightly improved, but despite that, the food was so good that I know for SURE that I'll be back. ------ FOOD: 1. [MUST TRY] Squid and Pork Jowl (5/5): Where has this been all my life. Fatty cuts of melt-in-your-mouth pork paired with this incredibly tangy sauce that you'll want to soak up with the rice that comes with this dish. The squid was good too but dulled in comparison to the pork. 2. [MUST TRY] Grilled Pork Chop (Namtok Moo) (5/5): It's pricy, but you've never had a pork chop like this. Such a high quality cut of pork, sliced up for you making this the perfect dish to share. Comes with lettuce wraps that serve as the perfect, crisp vessel for the fatty pork. 3. Prik King Gai (Crispy Chicken) (5/5): A Thai take on fried chicken. Satisfyingly crispy bite-sized chicken pieces with so many spices and incredible heat. 4. Gaeng Bumbai Aubergine (Crispy eggplant curry) (4.5/5): Surprisingly crispy deep-fried eggplant soaked in a rich, thick curry. Curry is definitely on the spicy side, but the crunch of the eggplant was so satisfying that I couldn't stop eating this despite the spice. This pairs really nicely with rice. 5. Caramelized fish sauce cabbage (4.5/5): A great, non-spicy, highly acidic side dish to cut through the richness and spice of other items. 6. Yum Tawai (4/5): This is more of a sweet and savory veggie dish vs a "salad". Veggies come thoroughly dressed in an acidic, sweet, thick sauce that makes this experience really intense. 7. Chocolate cake (4/5): A chocolate dome with layers of chocolate mousse and fruit jam inside. I could have done with no fruit, but I still thought this was great, and I loved the honeycomb pieces along the edges of the dessert. ------ SERVICE: * It was high quality service you'd expect from a Michelin starred restaurant but at certain moments it didn't quite live up to expectations. Drinks came 20-30 minutes after they were ordered, and we asked for a dessert menu that didn't come until we asked a second time * Still, service was good enough that I'd definitely come back, especially given how good the food is ------ AMBIANCE / ENVIRONMENT: * This restaurant is in the Kabuki hotel in Japantown, so there's valet parking at the hotel as well as a public garage nearby and lots of street parking in the area (though hourly rates in Japantown are quite high) * The restaurant itself is gorgeous, modern, and sleek, and the volume was just right so we never felt like it was too loud or that there were too many people
Way too spicy coupled with poor service
Way too spicy. Was taken here as a surprise for my birthday by my fiance. I can handle some spice. This food was on another level. Absolutely zero warning from the waiter about the spice level of any dish. Barely ate. Fiance who has strong spice tolerance even had trouble with some of the dishes. We ordered the pork on the first section ($51) and the chicken and cod from the second. Shocked it’s a Michelin star due to the incredible lack of service we received from our waiter. He was not around at all, never asked how we liked our food. Terrible experience. They need to put spiciness level on menu or proactively communicate
Have your Tum Tums ready
I was highly recommended this place so decided to pop up for an early dinner. First choice - aubergine - i was told by my waiter it was spicey so i moved on to seafood wrapped in bamboo leaf. He said nothing so i thought, great, it's a safe choice. When i took first bite my mouth was on fire. I knew i wouldn't be able to taste anything else (i ordered cod as well). The flavors and/or seafood on that leaf did not impress me. I was putting down the fire with a lovely Spanish white wine. That worked better than water, highly recommend lol Cod came and it was beautiful and very tasty but again, SO SPICY. Can we crank it down a notch spice wise ? I've been to Thai places and never had such spicy food. I would recommend putting a pepper sign next to every dish showing spice levels. Or the waiters has to describe spiciness of every dish. My waiter mentioned spicy aubergine but said nothing about seafood in bamboo leaf after i declined aubergine exactly for that reason. Strange... Service lacked a little bit for a Micheline star place. My waiter paid attention more to the party of five businessmen sitting across from me. More cocktails, more food, more tip i get it. The person who cleans the tables clearly doesn't know if he is supposed to clean used utensils after first course or not. He took them off my plate and put them on the table (i was shocked) then i guess realized that utensils are replaced after each course and quickly put them on plate he just took away. I am still popping tum tums after hours of my meal. People with ulcers and GI problems be warned and ask about spiciness level of your dish. Bon Appetit !
Food was excellent the first time I went it was a friends
Food was excellent the first time I went it was a friends birthday and they gave us a table next to the kitchen. We got all the noise but none of the view. The food was delicious. Be sure to eat your meals properly. They seasoning is meant to pair with the rice that it comes with. My second visit was not as good. The food quality had dropped and one of the dishes had seafood that had gone off I had to send it back. The waiter then tried to upsell us into a replacement item, but after getting a mouthful of bad seafood, our meal was done and I had them box the rest of their meal. While there kitchen is good, their front of house leaves much to be desired, as no one checked back on us after the returned dish. Or during my friends birthday for that matter.

Really good dinner at Nari last night!! The servers gave really great recommendations and we ended up ordering the root vegetable salad, Brussels sprouts, squid and pork jowl, eggplant curry, and chicken, and ended the meal with a chocolate mousse. Would highly recommend the root vegetable salad, chicken and the squid and pork jowl'!! The eggplant curry is quite spicy so definitely keep that in mind! The flavors are also quite strong and on the saltier side but quite delicious overall :)

We invited close friends of ours to join us for a delicious Thai meal at Nari. I'm not sure they'll be friends with us after that disaster of a meal. The food was just plain bad. I'd say it was the saltiest meal I've ever had in my life. I really can't believe the hype about this place. It's terrible. It's like my twelve year old son, who has never touched a kitchen utensil, cooked the meal for us, and we had to smile and pretend it was good (although I did send one salt bomb back and was told that the chef would be informed lol). There is MUCH better Thai food in the area for a fraction of the cost. Save your money and your health.
Good service & delicious food - decently affordable thai
Good service & delicious food - decently affordable thai food for having 1 michelin star (we paid ~$60 pp alcarte to split 6 dishes across 4 people) highly recommend the chicken, pork & squid, brussel sprouts, and root salad. Eggplant curry was pretty spicy and a lot spicier than the other dishes. Chocolate mousse was also delicious to finish off the meal with dessert :) def reserve in advance if you want to try!

A Spicy Encounter at Nari
My recent experience at Nari was unfortunately marred by a series of unfortunate events and an unexpected lack of professionalism from the management, particularly from the manager, Katie. Upon arrival, there was a hiccup with my reservation; the staff couldn't locate it despite my confirmation. Nevertheless, I was promptly seated as there were available tables. This hiccup was forgivable, considering the restaurant had open spots and managed to accommodate me. However, the real disappointment came later when I discovered a no-show charge on my account. Confused and rightfully frustrated, I promptly contacted the restaurant to address the error. To my surprise, instead of a genuine apology or an effort to rectify the situation, I received a response from the manager, Katie, that was nothing short of unprofessional. In my reply, I clarified that I did visit the restaurant on the specified day but noted that the food was too spicy for my taste. Rather than acknowledging the inconvenience or attempting to resolve the issue, Katie's response was shockingly dismissive. She informed me that they didn't want me back because I supposedly "don't appreciate Thai spices." This kind of response is not only unprofessional but also lacks the basic courtesy one would expect from a customer service representative. While taste preferences may vary, the customer's experience and feedback should be handled with tact and consideration. Dismissing a customer for expressing a personal preference is not the hallmark of a customer-centric establishment. Regrettably, the unfortunate incident overshadowed any positive aspects the restaurant might have offered. It's disheartening to encounter such a lack of professionalism from a manager, and it certainly leaves a lasting negative impression. I would caution potential diners to be wary of Nari until they address their customer service issues and adopt a more customer-friendly approach.

I believe our rezzies were at 7:30pm, so a friend and I decided to head over early and sit at the bar upstairs. It was very chill. A nice lounge like vibe. We grabbed two seats at the bar and were the only ones there for a while. Cocktails were fun. And the bartender was sweet. Once everyone arrived, we transferred our bill downstairs to the table. Out of the above, I really wanted the caviar. Why? I have no idea, but most in my party didn't want any, so I basically had all of it to myself. (Or maybe they were just being nice since it was my bday? Regardless, I'll take it!) Went fine with the scallion roti. Tho I did wish there was something like a creme fraiche to cut thru the saltiness. They were very sweet and actually printed my name on the menu for my bday! I was not a part of the bill paying, but one of my friends did tell me it was a min of $125 per person. We thought we had hit it, but apparently we were $18.38 short. I do wish our server said something as that is just wasted money. We would have ordered another drink or something. Do note that the 5% health mandate is included in the min, so it's actually $118.75 per person if you are factoring just food and drink prices. Fun place to have some elevated Thai food. Tho if you have a party that requires a min per person, check the bill before you pay. You may have been charged the difference in the min instead of just hitting it.

In my third visit to this establishment, I explored the main dining hall after having previously attended work events in the private room. The transition was seamless, and the dining hall experience exceeded expectations. From delightful dishes to exceptional drinks and impeccable service, every aspect contributed to a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.
Food was excellent.
Very creative menu. The service was very good as well. The root vegetable and squid and pork jowl dishes were the highlights.
They literally stole money from me.
I had the most horrible experience. Tables are all crammed next to each other. Hence, there is no privacy. The party next to us was incredibly obnoxious. They would even look at what my wife was looking at on her phone and make comments about it. They were super intrusive. And all this was possible due to this horrible setup. On top of that, the food was mediocre, and dessert was disgusting. So I didn't leave any tips after that terrible experience. However, when I checked my bank statement, I noticed they gave themselves a generous tip. These people are thieves. Make sure to take your copy of the bill and check your bank statement. They use a facade of luxury and prestige in order to scam customers.

as a devout fangirl of the restaurant's owner since the chez pim days, I was really excited to eat at nari and check this dining experience off my bucket list. the ambiance is orientalist hotel, understandable given the restaurant's literal location. service was really warm and lovely. for the price, however, I felt the food was kind of on the okay side overall. salad, oyster dish, and seafood curry were pretty yum. the squid & pork jowl was the meal standout - definitely get if you eat here. our waiter happily praised the gaeng hung lay, a beef cheek curry that my very blunt asian mother described as tasting "like Chinese medicine" to the deep embarrassment of the server and me. I love my mom, but... anyway, I think it was good but more of an acquired taste compared to the squid/pork dish. for dessert we got the dreaming of lod chong, which tastes like pandan waffles in salted cream form. interesting, experimental. happy to have had the opportunity to dine here but not sure how quickly I would return given the cost and the food being decent but not life-changing. beautiful, though, and def worth trying once. curious to try kin khao next!
A fun but expensive adventure!
I love tasting menus but I am sensitive to heat, but got the chef's menu anyway, and I found enough to eat and to delight in. The menu seemed to be a little of everything, and we particularly loved the scallops (spicy but manageable if you leave just a trace of the sauce on), the hog jowl (delicious!) and squid, and the cabbage, which was richly umami with a bit of a char on it. Neither of us could eat the pork chop dish, but we both loved the savitri cocktail. For dessert we got to share a sort of strawberry and tapioca pearl dish and pandan parfait, which looked like a stick of green butter but tasted like caramel and vanilla and bliss. Both desserts were served with flavorless and gritty ice which we weren't crazy about but the pandan parfait made up for it. I am both very very glad we went because it was a special evening but probably wouldn't go again because I would rather go on a different and slightly less spicy and icy adventure.
Not for everyone.
Thai food is often spicey hot and Nari does not disappoint. However, if you don’t like hot food, you are best to go elsewhere. Even if you do like hot food, you may want to go elsewhere for several reasons. While the service was excellent, the noise level (music and other people) was quite high so that conversations were sometimes difficult. The menu was surprisingly limited for a one star Michelin restaurant. We (a party of four) had four appetizers and two main courses, which was 35% of the total offerings.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.

perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
