Last night in Singapore
Enjoyed a fantastic meal here on our last night in Singapore. The place is stunning and the food was delicious. Our waitress was very helpful and prevented us from over ordering!! Would definitely recommend

We discovered this restaurant online before flying to Singapore, and made a reservation. There didn't seem to be many slots available, so it seemed that it would be popular. It was busy when we arrived and there were no spare tables, but by the time we finished our meal, nearly all the tables were vacant... maybe they have another later sitting - we didn't enquire. My only complaint is not about this restaurant in particular, but everywhere in Singapore, and it applies here too - the prices shown on the menu are exclusive of a 10% service charge and the 9% GST. Again, we didn't ask if the service charge was optional as we would normally leave a 10% tip anyway, but they also didn't mention that it was included when presenting the bill. If they are adding 10% and 9%, why not just include it in the menu price in the first place? I suppose once you understand that this is how they do it in Singapore (and the USA actually) then you can do mental arithmetic when considering your choices, but I prefer the UK "VAT inclusive" way of showing prices and would prefer to decide on the tip depending on the service actually received.

The food is amazing! Having lived in Singapore for a few years and now visiting from Sydney Australia, I can say this restaurant provides a really good selection of Singaporean favourites on the menu, both meals and drinks. The service was exceptional with staff very attentive and pre-empting our needs. This restaurant provides a welcome introduction to Singaporean cuisine with the silver service and ambiance that is characteristic of Singapore fine dining culture. Just a little cool with the A/C so ladies maybe bring a shawl. Will be recommending to our friends to visit when next in Singapore, to book in advance.

My family just visited Singapore on holiday and was recommended to visit this restaurant from the many guide books I read. There are 2 x sittings for lunch, so we booked the later session so we weren't rushed. We arrived 15mins early for our 1.30pm lunch session and was seated promptly. I'm glad we did as there was a huge que for the 1.30pm sesdion as it got closer to the booking. My family all chose different dishes and all were lovely. The waiters were very attentive and food was quick to arrive. We did not drink any alcohol so can't comment on the beverages. My father had Haianese Chicken rice, my mother had the barramundi with a side of curry vegetables, my sister had the meatballs and then satay skewers and I had the samba prawns with rice. The dishes were fresh and tasty with lovely presentation. Would definitely return on my next trip to Singapore.

Be the first to ReplyContinued Excellence
The food, atmosphere and service continue to be excellent here. Krishnan welcomed me and set me with a drink on the balcony as I waited for a friend to arrive, and made our experience special. The flavors, presentation, dining room all contributed to a great evening. There is a lot of great food in Singapore, but this is one of my favorites.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Food for Peranakan Food
I managed to have a table for this great experience with this great peranakan restaurant. As I walked in to the restaurant has been greeted by Mr. Krishnan - The Host. But unfortunately, there is a group of people that dining and most of them is actually a group of company has been made the reservation earlier and made the whole entire restaurant became so noisy due of their voices. Totally kill the ambience of the restaurant that I expected. Mr. Krishnan gave a table at the high chair area near to the bar with the facing of Marina Bay Sands tower. I really liked the decorations, the colour and touches of the designer of the restaurant but only once the crowds is there, totally my moment is killed by them. I have no choice to overcome this ambience, by plugging in my earpiece and listened to my Spotify - French cafe song-list into my ears just because want to create my own mood and ambience. Anyway, allowed myself review the restaurant with their services and foods. I ordered from the starter, main course and definitely a dessert. For the starter I ordered Kuay Pie Tee. The portion is so just nice and the sauce so great. Meanwhile for my main course, I preferred to have Garam Assam Fish and this is totally authentic of peranakan food from Malacca. All the main course is actually is served with Jasmine rice or Chicken Rice. For the dessert, I choose to have Gula Melaka Tea Cake with Coconut Ice Cream. The food experience so great and totally amazingly. Thank you so much for Mr. Krishanan and Mr. Dyn for your hospitality and serving the drinks and foods too. Based on this review, I will definitely to dining again and ensure for my forthcoming reservation will not have a large of group and keep talking so loudly until kill the ambience. Thank you. Be the first to ReplyNice venue, good food but DREADFUL service
Visiting my daughter in Singapore and wanted to take her and her boyfriend for a special night out and she chose here. Beautiful venue, really nice food but the service was confusing/ dreadful. After being seated it took 15 mins before our drinks orders were taken. We were still eating our starters when they pushed the main courses onto our place mats. We'd just started on the mains when the desert menus were thrust at us and we were told the kitchen was closing and we would have to order now if we wanted desert. My daughter was told they weren't doing any more fresh juices cos the machine had been turned off and my plate was taken before I'd even finished. We weren't late. There were still lots of other tables seated. This was around 10.30 and the place was not supposed to close until 11pm . I have no idea why they treated us so rudely. Shame, because the food was good, but not good enough to get away with such badly trained waiters!
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointing.
Very disappointing. One main course consisted of a small, dry fish fillet smothered with a very spicy sauce that lacked any subtlety. The other consisted on a small baked fish with an overly salty sauce. Hugely overpriced as well. To the restaurant credit, when they asked how we enjoyed the food and we told them, they insisted on giving us a free desert . Sadly we didn’t like it either.

There was a problem with the table which Krishnan resolved - well done. Fantastic food. The decor is top 1930 deco. You must book well in advance as it is quite a small restaurant. I recommend 'beef randang ' and beer.
Be the first to ReplyLovely restaurant. Shame about the noise
Have eaten here before and the food and service were excelleny. This time there were several large parties and the noise levels were high. That remobbved much please from an otherwise excellent evening

Beef rendang was delicious! Service was great. They even printed a photo for us to take home as a memento of our visit.
Be the first to Replypoor service, covenience food
service was poor, ok, but not friendly, food was standard convenience food - overpriced - not worth to visit
Be the first to ReplyBeware! Totally Unprofessional Restaurant!!
Decided to bring overseas friends to Violet Oon for a local dinner. Booked table for 6 pax, more than a month ago. Then one of our friends could not make it. I called the restaurant to inform them of this change to 5 pax. Over the phone, I was told that there will be a "very big group that night", so the restaurant will put us in a corner table "away from the crowd". It sounded so thoughtful and I was grateful. But when we were there, I found to my horror that they had squeezed us into a corner table, right at the entrance, with tight booth seats that were meant for 4 persons. So our group of 5 adults - 3 guys and 2 ladies had to squeeze into 2 rows of booth seats with barely any leg room. It was the worst and most uncomfortable dinner in my life. Yet, when I protested, the lady who served us simply smiled and said, "Sorry we are fully booked tonight, so there is no other table to change to." Then she offered to put another chair at the end of table. But she could see that, that was totally impossible because the table is just too small for the 5 of us and right at end, is where they had put all our wines and champagne and the glasses. In spite of their awareness of our unhappiness, nothing was done to address this terrible state of affairs. And by the way, our table was NOT away from that huge group, we were just 2 chairs away. So what the lady had told me on the phone, was a complete lie, it was just so that she could push us into that awful, corner table. Violet Oon - if you folks cannot provide a proper table, please honestly tell your customer and we will go elsewhere!! This is TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL!! Folks, so please be very careful, when they offer you the "quiet, corner table"!!
Be the first to ReplyMediocre in nice setting
Mediocre food in a nice setting. Food generally lacking flavour a depth, with the iced tea beverage overly sweet and bland.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful experience
Excellent food wonderful atmosphere and very friendly staff. This was our first time at this restaurant and we were not familiar With the cuisine and portions. The waiters were really friendly with ordering suggestions. Sophisticated but down to earth.

After a cocktail in the Art Bar on the roof with great views we came down for a very fine dinner. An attractive and characterful dining room, attentive staff and a brilliant menu.I had the best beef rendang, ever, real melt in the mouth and everlasting flavours plus some v good red snapper and mixed vegetables in a prawn broth, the wife’s favourite dish. For Singapore, pretty good value too
Be the first to ReplyGreat high tea
Six of us visited this lovely restaurant for high tea on a Sunday afternoon. The decor is evocative of days of old. Staff were very friendly and helpful including giving us guidance on which foods to eat first. I've had a number of high teas over the years but none featuring Peranakan food. Some really tasty food both savoury and sweet. Asian desserts don't always suit my palate but these ones hit the spot. Highly recommended. The cost ended up - including the various taxes - as A$88 per couple which was very good value.

Food, environment and many elements are great tradition. Stuffs are very helpful, particular a handsome young gentleman (I am so so sorry forget to inquire his name, with Philippine ascent), he is really attentive and helpful with ordering, food serving, thank you so much.

Great food and a good atmosphere at restaurant. Order Beef redang and Ayam and both tasted great. Tables are located pretty close to each other and need to book ahead due to limited tables.

We visited National Kitchen on the last night of our Singapore trip, our group included four adults. The food and service were outstanding. The waitstaff went out of their way to make us laugh and feel welcome. Each dish was absolutely spot on, had a depth of flavour and ingredients were fresh. I would absolutely recommend dining here for a romantic or special occasion dinner. The decor is gorgeous.
Be the first to ReplyAlways excellent!
We love Violet Oon but the National Kitchen location is by far our favorite location. The atmosphere is charming, the cocktails are excellent, and the food is outstanding. It is our first choice for out of town visiting guests. Peranakan food is something everyone should try but Violet Oon takes is up several notches!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food! Awesome service!!
Food was delicious! Our 2 filipino maitre'd and waiter were so helpful and friendly. Made our stay enjoyable.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful
Absolutely beautiful dining room at the National Kitchen which is so conducive to an enjoyable and delicious meal. Great service, great food, great location. The price may seem expensive but the serving sizes are very generous, and given that peranakan food is very labour intensive, we still consider it very good value. We make sure we dine here every time we visit Singapore. Combined with a visit to one of the nearby galleries, this is a favourite event.

My 3rd or 4th time here and still great. Ate there for lunch with my family and had an excellent time! Food was really good, place is beautiful (plus we got a great view of Marina Bay Sands) and the service was wonderful. Roel, Margaret & the fair lady were very attentive & friendly.
