If you eat here you haven't read the reviews or you simply cannot believe them. Either way you are in for a huge bill AND a disappointment. Don't say you haven't been warned.
Be the first to ReplyI stopped here for a little afternoon treat.
It is a great spot to people watch if you sit outside. I had a delightful dessert with mascarpone cream and glass of wine. Will be back!

I always go to Nello when my parents are in town & the food is spectacular. It has a relaxed vibe & the staff is the best - they're helpful when it comes to recommendations and definitely don't skimp when it comes to the Parmesan or portions. We typically order the ugly tomato salad, which is always so fresh and yummy. I love their squid ink pasta, but their lobster ravioli is also delicious. The pasta offerings, which are made fresh in house, are pretty massive, so it's easy for everyone to find something that they'll enjoy. They usually have a bunch of specials too!

Aside from the overpriced and undercooked mediocre food, the service is atrocious and the atmosphere is tacky. The only attractive thing about this restaurant is the location. The manager is sleazy and scammy. They conned us with some open table deposit nonsense which is too ridiculous to even articulate (essentially overcharging us). The service is far from customer centric. The tone which the staff speaks in is patronizing and demeaning. The clientele at this restaurant is not particularly tasteful. Terrible dining experience, rude staff, and bad food. It may be more beneficial to flush you money down the toilet, where in Nello, "classy" patrons are hogging the bathroom to do blow.

One of my favorite places to stop and have a cocktail and snack. It's always beautifully decorated inside. Changes for the holidays. It feels super fancy, and is fairly expensive. But I just love the ambiance, and waiters.

We were not asked if we wanted inside or outside seating and they immediately sat us outside where couples were blowing cigarette smoke on us the entire meal. We were asked 6 times what kind of water we wanted. When we got a martini they asked if we wanted with a twist or with olives and we said olives. When I mentioned that it was wrong the guy TOOK OUR FORK from our table and scooped out the lemon from the drink (a $30 drink too) and tossed it on the floor and didn't fix it. Out appetizer was insanely bland and terrible and our food was mediocre. Nobody checked on us once throughout the entire meal. When I mentioned that our service was terrible nobody said anything and did not care at all. We have lived in Manhattan for years and have never had such terrible service.
Be the first to ReplyBroken glass on the table.
Dirty silverware. Roach on the wall. All these were still better than watching the hard up 30 something year old woman whoring out for her $30 pasta.
Be the first to ReplyI live near nello.
Very very over priced. Wine cost is abusive. Rude staff. Food is great but aggressively overpriced.
Be the first to ReplyThe reviews here are bad for a reason.
Anyway, if you like to eat a nonsense-tasteless expensive baby portion food with a teddy bear sitting next to you, this is the place for you.
Be the first to ReplyThis place looks nice and delicious from the outside.
But on the inside prices are thru the roof for the poor poor quality of food. I will never go back and do not recommend. The staff was kind and accommodating I will say.

This restaurant is cute and quaint lit by candlelight with full floor to ceiling windows that open to the street. I thought we would really enjoy our evening here, that is, until the guy in the photo showed up and sat himself at our table across from my wife with help from a staff member. He continued to stare at her longingly all evening until she actually asked if she could go home with him!! What kind of establishment is this?! In all seriousness, we loved it at Nello. The food was spectacular, the service superb and yes, we DID bring Mr. Bear (Big Red) home with us...because what's an extra $500 added onto your bill when it makes your girl so happy? They actually have many of these bears all over the restaurant and it's so charming. My wife was in heaven. Now we'll think of this special night every time we look at her giant stuffie! And we will certainly be back again to dine at Nello!
Be the first to ReplyNice location on Madison Ave.
Just know spot costs before you come. Paid $900 for an afternoon snack. We ordered a small dish of 6pc salmon w/caviar ($500) and 4 shots of Don Julio 1942 ($260) and there was an included $152 tip. Keep in mind, it wasn't even a meal, just a small bite while we were shopping. Lowkey feel like they're taxin on the Caviar but guess you payin for the location

We were just walking past the restaurant, looking in, when one of the staff members stopped us and told us that we needed a table for 4 (it wasn't even a question.) He ushered us into the restaurant, and as soon as we sat down, several waiters were on us right away, getting us water and offering us wine. Only after did they give us menus, where we realized how outrageously expensive our lunch was about to be. Their forcefulness made us so uncomfortable, and they totally roped us into staying. Our food was actually very good, but the portions were tiny: prepare to leave hungry after paying $50 for a bowl of pasta. One of the waiters rushed us at the end, trying to get us to order dessert while we were still drinking wine, and they all hovered over us for our entire meal. The food was good but not worth the price and the incredibly awkward and pushy demeanor of the staff.

Hands down the most rude manager and worst service in New York City. Food came out cold and was average - though priced as if it came with 24k gold shavings. When we complained about appetizers coming out after the mains after waiting for 1 hour, the manager literally did not care and in fact ushered us out of the restaurant in front of everyone with utter disrespect and zero class. I wish yelp had a negative star option for this place and it's management. Do not go unless you like below average food and rude people!
Be the first to ReplyDo not go.
It was awful and expensive. I overheard a staff member asking a single woman next to me in Spanish if she wanted to go sit with a creepy man sitting in the back corner. Regardless, the food was borderline disgusting. Even the salad was bad. I think we paid $40 for iceberg lettuce that wasn't even fresh. This place is clearly an overpriced escort restaurant.

If I would have gone off the rating for this place I would have kept walking. I am so glad I stayed. This restaurant is clean the service is quick and attentive. The prices are high but worth an experience. I ordered the Bellini which was just amazing. Between 2 people we split a Cesar salad and bolognese. You can tell that even the dressing is made from scratch. DELICIOUS. They brought a basket of fresh bread Im guessing is made in house. The bolognese was amazing so fresh and best I have had. Pasta to sauce fresh and delicious. Even though I had half portion I was stuffed. This place definitely deserves a 5 star from food to atmosphere to service.

This place didn't even have the courtesy to call in advance or even same day to inform me that they could not grill anything that day. I mean nothing. They had my phone number from when I made the reservation weeks back. It was my best friends birthday and he wanted to go to this restaurant. The food that we had to choose from was mediocre at best. It was super expensive and not worth it at all. Cute red bears- stay away!!!

It would be a more useful comparison to rank the service against cab drivers. Abhorrent and couldn't pay me to return.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing all around .
... The place is celebrated as authentic Italian food ... as an Italian born and raised in the peninsula I can absolutely attest that of Italian there is very little ..the impression I got is that this establishment equate outrageous prices to quality, which anyone who has spent time in Italy would know it is not the case ... pasta is a peasant meal and any pasta dish exceeding 20 dollars or euros is overpriced ... at 49 dollars it is outlandish... the carbonara and pasta and fieno sauces were so creamy and thick it would make any Italian grandmother turn in their grave .... ... the octopus salad , appetizer size , was actually good ... but I have had the same quality for half the price in many other quote restaurants ....the limoncello was not even passable as such ... as I actually make my own limoncello, I know what that is and how it is supposed to taste .. and if that one is 20 dollars a taste, I could probaably sell mine for 40 ... total cost for a dinner for two ( one glass of wine each and one limoncello each. Only pasta and one appetizer ) was 320 dollars including taxes ( 25 dollars ) and tip... this is especially shameful as in NYC there are plenty of people who understand the difference between true quality and rip off ..My opinion : stay away from this place .

There was a time when dining in NYC was a special experience on all levels. Fierce competition, great food and service. Nello still has the ambiance and good service. Food is OK by a truly poor value at the exuberant prices. Basically a tourist spot.

Decided to have a thanksgiving dinner at this place, where visited a few times before pandemic. Unfortunately, it wasn't a success. Clarified with a waiter whether a starter calamaretti was pan seared or deep fried, and been assured it was just slightly touching a pan. However, the calamari was deep fried (please see a pic), and when asked again about it, waiter just passed by telling "trust me, it's pan seared". Ok.... Left it there.
Be the first to ReplyIt was my first experience dining at Nello and I can't wait
It was my first experience dining at Nello and I can't wait to return. The restaurant has a beautiful interior decor as well as a cute inviting patio. It's the perfect spot to people watch and be seen after shopping on the UES. The food was phenomenal. My friend and I ordered the tuna tartare, prosciutto with melon, lobster salad, cacio e pepe, shrimp risotto, cheesecake, and chocolate cake. The risotto was the best part and may be the best risotto I've ever tasted. They have a phenomenal wine selection and I was impressed by their wine by the glass. Usually I skip wine by the glass as I find it to be unimpressive wine with a high mark-up but decided to give it a shot. I sampled their white Bordeaux and white burgundy and was completely satisfied. It was a difficult choice to choose. We finished off with espresso martinis. They truly have crafted bartenders as I now consider Nello my favorite spot for espresso martinis. The service is world-class. The staff were knowledgeable and attentive. They were also just all-around fun and a pleasure to engage with and laugh. Management periodically checked in with us we said we couldn't complain even if we tried. I was shocked to see so many poor reviews, and unwarranted for that matter. I don't really understand the sticker shock so many reviewers seem to take issue. Nello is a beautiful restaurant with a prime location on Madison Avenue next to Hermés, across from Jimmy Choo, and boasts a celebrity clientele. The food is incredibly delicious and the the service provided is equivalent of any Michelin restaurant in NYC, of course it's going to be at a higher price point. Even with a higher price point, the menu lists the prices and if you're ordering a special or adding on any accompaniment, you can always ask the price before ordering.

I discovered this place recently and I had an amazing experience. The pepper steak is literally delicious. Their service and the waiter was very welcoming as well. I'll definitely go back!

It is a lovely decorated spot and the food tastes well, but the games take away from the enjoyment. first u can't hear anything, so the $300 truffle pasta price was muffled - never heard that number. the birthday cake came with a scoop of $6.00 ice cream which we didn't order and thought it was a treat. listen we overspent but thought hey they will do the right thing about the ice cream. it was just a formality but the manager wouldn't return the $ nor follow up. He wanted a copy of our bill, what day, etc. Really put us through the hoops and was quite gruff.i didn't check the ratings, so now i know why 3 stars would be a stretch.
