Attitude problem
Check website before visit, it state open 12-9pm Went there 20/2/23 afternoon caught in the jam arrived in hawker center 1.45. The char kway teow stall was closed. So we had other food for lunch. The duck rice which is good. Later at 2.30pm I saw the stall roller open a lady was there the next stall ask her why so late people came and went. Her reply getting her house aircon fix. Poor arrangements because it close on Tuesday why can't get the aircon fix the next day. In business operations timing is very important to consumer. You can't open and close as you wish unless you put up notice in the stall before hand. Never the less I also mentioned I was there and surprised is closed the lady give me a nasty look. She might be the owner wife or helper, seen like a foreigner. Bad attitude my husband ask me to daopa I told my husband no, no way I'm going to support such poor attitude stall I do without it even though char kway teow was my favorite. How the stall has come this far, how can they continue to win customer? Always be humble even if you are successful. What goes up can come down.
Be the first to ReplyDon’t be drawn by the queue.
It’s just average. I made the mistake of standing 30 minutes in line to get some. Oh well. Each portion is cooked as you order. Not a fast food concept and probably why everybody thinks they’re getting personal service.
Be the first to ReplyFried kway teow is not fantastic but decent, and be prepared to wait
Finally visited 18 Zion Road Fried Kway Teow. Although we came off peak on a Sunday afternoon with a very short queue, the wait was quite a while as service was extremely slow. Fried kway teow is not fantastic but decent, and be prepared to wait.
Be the first to ReplyOverrated and not worth a try!
I am not sure how people can rate this restaurant 4 stars, the fried Kway Teow is so sweet that probably you can taste “sugary” than a taste of fried Kway Teow.. need more saltiness. The cooked noodle was smashed and you can’t find a proper string of noodle ! I can’t even take more than 2 mouthful of the noodle... overrated in my view and not to waste my calories
Be the first to ReplyOverrated & sadly, is way past being celebrated.
A Singapore local having hugely recommended this food stall’s culinary skills was impressively backed up by the Michelin guide as being very worthwhile... this now is clear : it’s a case of when you’re SO famous, no one is prepared to hoist the flag & honestly report & declare : “ it’s over ... it ain’t no good anymore.”
Having waited in a long queue of around 10 OTHER eager char kway teow lovers, it was shattering to later realise the food was profoundly ordinary.
Frankly a rip off .
Another disappointed diner later sitting alongside us signalled as to wether WE too were as profoundly disappointed as obviously was he .. we were obliged to agree it was a dud - overrated hugely, & not worth the crown of honour still worn.
Forget it utterly.
Not as good as expected!
the queue was long and our expectations were high. After all, this is a very popular stall specialising in this dish. Regrettably, the dish turned out flat and very disappointing. No zing, no wok hei, nothing memorable as it should be.
Be the first to ReplyWell liked by locals and foreigners!
Great fried kway Teow that doesn’t boast as well then the best in Singapore! Truly a off beaten gem!
Be the first to ReplyTasty and sweet
The queue can grow very quickly so I will suggest to avoid peak hours. May be too sweet or oily to some folks but was okay with me. Minimal plate starts at $4 but it's the portion is quite generous.
Be the first to ReplyRude and just not worth your holiday effort
Through the same cook, the standard has dropped.
And the woman working at the stall is the most rude person I ever met in Singapore.
- She is originally from the Philippines (I think) and when there is a Q , the rich who sent their Philippine housekeeper ordered 6 packets (take away) supersedes everyone else standing in the line.
I always go to this stall whenever I am back in Sg but after this experience that I saw how rude she speaks to the customer or ignore the customer and constantly nags at the uncle who cooks, I am never going back to this place.
There are other places that are better such as Hill Street ( if you are in town) or marine parade hawker near parkway parade if you are at the east. And if you at toa payoh , the taxi driver told my Scottish husband there is a very good chay Kwan teow there everyone goes to.
Enough of Zion road fried Kway teow - rude and unpleasant woman - take your money somewhere else where you not only can enjoy the food , you will have a good experience of Singapore than going to Zion road chay kway teow.
Cannot Go Wrong With This Place
If you want a taste of what a Singapore Char Kway Teow taste like this is the place. There is always a queue, so be prepared to wait.
Be the first to ReplyStill tasty even if not as good as before
I used to patronise the stall when my office was around the corner, even eating here for 8 days in a row.
Owner Ho is still hard at it, and the portions are very generous, even at the cheapest price of $4. Tastewise, it was not as good as I remembered, though it was still tasty. I just found it a little too sweet and wish there was a bit more vegetables.
Wait time was around 20 minutes, which was okay. Parking is rather limited, so you ,ay also have to wait for a spot. There are also limited street parking around the corner.
NOT AS TASTY AS I LIKE
I stood in line for 30 minutes only to find the taste and look average.
I give credit to the Ma And Pa still running the stall, but I would only return if my guests really want to try it.
