Nobu Malibu Reviews from The Last Year
I was so disappointed with Nobu Malibu tonight that I
I was so disappointed with Nobu Malibu tonight that I wanted to share my experience. I was enjoying a work dinner, the food was amazing as well as the service when the whole experience was made extremely uncomfortable by an over zealous security guard who interrupted our dinner with our boss and colleagues. My boss, who I should mention is famous in some circles, asked that I take photos of him and our colleagues but when I started to I was interrupted by a Nobu security guard. I guess he thought that as an Asian woman I was a crazy fan or paparazzi???? I told him we work together, but he obviously didn't believe me and asked my boss if he was he "alright", and was I "assaulting" him. To which my boss assure the guard that I was a member of our team and that he wanted the pictures taken. Later other people came to talk to our boss and didn't get warned or interrupted by the guard. After this first incident the same security guard continued to stare at me making me even more uncomfortable, so much so that I could neither enjoy the food nor take a photo with coworkers without feeling subconscious. All this in an environment where many other guests were taking photos without being questioned. After the initial incident I tried to take a video of the ocean from the area of the restaurant that faces the ocean. I took 2 videos in total, one 19 seconds, an one 7 seconds, for a total of less than 30 seconds of filming total. While taking the last video the same guard approached me and said "you can't stand there, you will block view..." While I understand the sentiment and was being respectful of the other guests by keeping my time at a minimum there were a number of guests who were also taking videos and photos none of which were reprimanded or approached by the guard. The whole experience made me so sad, the good food and service all brought down by a bad atmosphere created by the guard ...and it was clear that I was being treated differently than the other guests. This treatment felt more like a result of being an Asian with a camera than an attempt to limit photographers as all around me there were people photographing without being harassed by security. Nobu, I understand the desire to limit photography but If you are that cautious please treat ALL your customers equally and not single out guests for no reason. I have been to a number of Nobu restaurants around the world and have never been treated in this manner, I am very disappointed. I wanted to share the videos I shot just to demonstrate that I was standing in front of the ocean view for a combined 26 seconds of time.

Nobu never disappoints! The food, views and service are unmatched. We recently celebrated a friend's birthday and couldn't be happier! Each dish was better than the next. Our waiter was awesome because he kept making recommendations based on what we liked which elevated our experience! Highly recommend it! Reserve a month in advance to request a table with an ocean view because that definitely makes the experience more special.
Very Good
The reputation of this restaurant is well established, it's very good and the produce is really fresh.I recommend it if you like fresh fish
First time at Nobu, and it did not disappoint.
We sat on the patio and wow, what a GORGEOUS view. Food and service were great, and it was so nice to take a walk on the beach after a lovely sunset dinner. We will be back!
Nobu is definitely as fancy as all the social media queens
Nobu is definitely as fancy as all the social media queens make it out to be. Nobu Malibu has a beautiful view of the ocean which adds to the fancy ambiance. The staff are friendly, attentive and accommodating. We never went a moment without a full glass of water and the waiter made sure we were happy with our food. The food is of course very pricy with small portions, nobu is meant to be enjoying family style so get ready to order as a group and share the experience together. The food was good, not excellent like I expected.
Unprofessional and rude staff and management.
I'm standing in front of the front desk host and she's on her phone, no greetings for almost a minute until she acknowledges our presence. I had to wait for nearly an hour after my reservation time to get the table that I requested. After about 90 minutes I'm still waiting for the rest of my order to arrive and planning to order desert and champagne bottle for my wife's birthday but the server says there's not much time left on my reservation. I called the management and the same rude front desk woman shows up with her hands crossed, with the worst attitude and zero acknowledgment that I'm having a birthday celebration. I called the restaurant manager and he gave me the same unconvincing reasons. When you make the reservation they tell you the table is yours for 2 hours but somehow yesterday it was for 1 hour 45 minutes and I was not even within that time frame. I paid my check and left because I didn't want my wife's special day to get worse than what Nobu Malibu made. They also refused to give out the woman's name because they were afraid that I'd be writing this review. I've been to thousands of upscale restaurants in California and all over the county including the LA and Las Vegas Nobu locations but never once wrote a yelp review. Me writing this should tell how horrible of an experience I had and how they ruined a perfect birthday celebration.
Overall, the experience was pretty good.
I know this place has a huge reputation, but most of it is hype. I think majority of the staff is really kind; everyone is helpful, some more than others. Their food is good, but definitely not worth the price. Their portion sizes are also small so I'm not sure where they get the concept of sharing "family style". I had the luxury of sitting on the patio, which was gorgeous, and we actually got to see dolphins. I think the entire bill came to $500-600 for four people (sorry I was hungry so I didnt get pics of everything). None of us drank alcohol, so that helped. Valet is 20$ **WARNING DO NOT WEAR HEELS YOU LOVE*** I made the mistake of wear stilettos and got stuck in the wood floor half a dozen times. This is an experience everyone wants, but it's really not worth coming more than once; maybe special occasions, but if you're a real foodie, you can find better hole in the wall spots in weho.
I want to start by saying thank you to the wonderful front
I want to start by saying thank you to the wonderful front desk staff who immediately got us a seat by the water as we were walk in and had no reservations. Also our server who was very thorough and attentive. The food was good tastes great but you are paying for the real estate as you can get the same if not better at other restaurants.I think it's the hype and more celeb watching/tik tok/insta crowd. Tried it not impressed as you can get the same view at moon shadows and spend less .
Good sushi
We had dinner there. We had a sushi plate wich was nice and tasty. In my opinion you pay alot for the brand as usual. What was really akward, that every new guests were greeted by the whole crew by shouting out loud. It was really disturbing the conversation and couldnt be more far away from the japanse culture.

The service here was very quick, just keep in mind you will need to reserve before coming and it can be a decent sized waitlist. Overall the food was decent, I would recommend the king salmon. Prices are pretty high, however it's what you would expect at a fine dining restaurant. Parking it Valet only out front. The whole vibe of this Nobu is chill, I love the view of the ocean.

The Yellowtail Sashimi was amazing!! They make sure you stay hydrated. We didn't have an empty water glass once. The crashing ocean waves and view really add the perfect vibe.
Best restaurant in Malibu!
Best restaurant in California! Food is insane the views are amazing. Staff is so nice! Drinks are simply awesome. It's a must place to eat!!
I'm shocked at how poor the customer service is.
I called today at 5:15 and they told me that I need to call back between 10-5 and slammed the phone down. Being rude is simply unacceptable.
SUPER BEAUTIFUL VIEWS WITH FRESH SUSHI AND SEAFOOD
I went here and it was a beautiful dinner complete with my favorite sushi and fresh seafood. The views were absolutely amazing and it was a bit crowded, but that is always expected. I love coming here because it is particularly beautiful all year round, but especially when you want to celebrate a special occasion.
So worth the money
The food was delicious. Even though it was a bit pricey totally worth it. Service was great and staff were so kind. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Great Private Dining. Awkward Ending.
We hosted a private event. Everything was great and we enjoyed the service and the food. Great view and a really good price for a private event. We had a slight situation at the end which kind of “left a bad taste in our mouth” with one of our servers, which wasn’t great.
Great Food; Service Disaster
We’ve been going to Nobu since the very first location opened in Manhattan 30 years ago. We’ve been to Nobu Malibu at least 10 times. When I reserved 30 days in advance, I informed the reservationist that we would be celebrating a birthday, graduation, and Mother’s Day and would like an outdoor table. She said that she would try. When we arrived at 2:30pm, there were 4-5 outdoor tables empty for 5-6 people. The hostess told me “you are sitting inside” and was extremely rude. Upon asking her about the empty tables, she informed me that they were for VIPs and the owners’ friends. One of the women seated at one of the outdoor tables happened to be in the ladies room at the same time as me; when I asked her about the table, told me that she was a tourist and was just seated there without even asking. Things went from bad to worse. Tables that were seated after us, were served before us. It took hours for our meal. Our server was out to lunch. Net/net, the experience ruined our celebration and everyone left in a bad mood despite the great food. Yes, Nobu is a destination and does great business. However, with this level of service, it will go downhill. It will no longer be my restaurant of choice. Extremely disappointing!
Nobu offers a consistent experience across the globe but
Nobu offers a consistent experience across the globe but the Malibu location is special. It's worth the trip. The ocean front setting is incredible and the energy is high -- even on a random Tuesday night when we were there most recently. It's fun to people watch. I didn't recognize any celebs but the crowd was fabulous. My go-to favorites are the artichoke salad, modern sashimi (salmon), and rock shrimp tempura. Insider's Tip: Reservations are a pain, but call at 10am one month in advance as instructed on their website. Be patient. Bar seating is first come, first serve - maybe you'll get lucky!

People might say it's overrated but you can't deny it's the best sushi in the Los Angeles area. It's going to be impossible to order something that is not good here. All the food is top notch and presentation lives up to their high standards and great reputation. The reason I give this place only 4 stars are for reasons other than the food. I have absolutely no complaints about the food and the price, but there are other reasons I choose to not come here regularly. First, you have to make a reservation way an advance to get a table which is annoying because sometimes you crave a certain meal the day of. It's unlikely to get a table the day of but try it. Second, it's annoying to think you are going to go out and have a relaxing, romantic dinner but you show up and it is SO LOUD! Luckily, when we went last month we got to sit near the outdoor area and we could hear the ocean a little bit but WOW was it loud, and we went on a Tuesday. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the decor is lovely with the amazing scenery but it's kind of a waste when you sit down at a small cramped table (unless you're a celebrity which you might get more space) and have to hear loud talking and silverware clanking. I get it, it's a top of the line restaurant which will make it busy and noisy but this is the reason why I choose other sushi places to go on a regular instead of Nobu. Again, I highly doubt you can find better sushi than this place it's just the other stuff that annoys me.
Excellent service and food.
Outdoor would be much better. The wine paired with the food was recommended by my waiter, which s fabulous.

The food was good, the ambiance was nice, it's very beautiful. Our service was not good at all. We were significantly neglected, had to ask many times for a drink menu, and were never checked on. Half of our food did not come out, and we had to remind the server that we did not receive half of what we ordered. Additionally, we never saw the same server more than twice, which is part of the issue. The staff were not communicative amongst themselves.
Experience the best
Expensive but half the cost is experiential, and 100% worth it. Craft cocktails with crashing waves and freshest seafood… no wonder it sells out. Miso Cod a MUST! Reservations are definitely not impossible. You just need to call 30 days out exactly at 10 AM West Coast time, and Stay patient.

Similar to another person's review that it is not worth the hype that this place gets. But definitely a fun experience none the less. We had the table side tasting menu where our server would pick out recommendations and things that were popular. He catered to any preferences and allergies for the table and made it according to a rough budget we were looking to spend. Started with three different orders of sashimi, Tuna and wagyu tacos, miso cod, king crab tempura, shrimp tempura with creamy sauce, sea bass with miso, ribeye with truffle sauce. All the sashimi tasted good. Our sea bass was a bit over cooked on one side of the fish. But still tasted good. The king crab wouldn't personally get again. The sauce tasted like sweet and sour mixed with vinegar. The shrimp dish would also not recc compared to everything else (personally feel like walnut shrimp tastes better). I think everything was overall good. No new flavors, all relatively familiar if you've had Filipino, Japanese, Chinese food before. But I think the overall experience and ambiance was still exciting. Getting things served individually and having them go over each of the courses.

This is my second time here! I must say that, its an exceptional dining experience. Food was fresh and delicious, as are the cocktails. Super high quality, but with prices to match. Staff were very attentive! and the view is spectacular, One of my all time favorite places!
You're paying for the atmosphere, not the food.
Malibu is beautiful, the spot on the beach is beautiful, the ambience of the restaurant is also very upscale and beautiful. The food was pretty bad, honestly. The spicy garlic edamame, which you usually can never go wrong with, were way too spicy and seemed like they were just bathed in Sriracha. The charred Brussels sprouts were beyond charred - they were burnt, soggy, and way overcooked. All of the sushi rolls had way too much rice, making them enormous in diameter and not able to be eaten in a single bite. The lobster tacos were laughable - literally, we laughed when they were placed on the table. They are very tiny - eaten in a single bite - and quite frankly were pretty unpleasant looking as they very closely resembled part of the female anatomy. Overall, I'd go again if somebody else was paying just to enjoy a leisurely lunch on the patio in the sunshine. If I were to be sitting inside, I'd say you're better off at PF Chang.
My experience here was pretty epic.
We came here as a group of 8 for my bachelor party. The waiter mentioned that this Nobu was Japanese/Peruvian. We ordered the omakase but some add ins for large groups. I've only eaten at the Nobu in Hong Kong which was also very memorable. This location has an epic location with views of the Pacific, but the only issue was the rain we experienced that night. Initially, I wanted to arrive early 1830 in order to capture sunset views but the weather did not cooperate. The food came out at a good pace, never having to wait long for the next dish to come out. When I left to use the bathroom, someone came over to fold my napkin. My glass of water was always filled. Service was definitely top notch. The food was also excellent. Some of the extra bougie courses were the A5 Wagyu and the uni. There wasn't really a bad course, surprisingly. I would definitely come back again, when the sun's out.
Looking for the perfect place to celebrate a special
Looking for the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion, Nobu should be your go to spot! The ambiance is beautiful and the vibe inside exudes tasteful fun for ages 21+, however kids & dogs are allowed. My waiter was amazing and fun was delicious. My favorite 2 dishes was the jalapeño yellowtail & the toro tuna. Their raw fish is so fresh that it melts in your mouth. However I wasn't a fan of the tempura shrimp, it lacked flavor & under the tempura the shrimp were small. None the less, it was a great dining experience.

Everything was amazing i was able to get last minute , front desk were very friendly, server was very friendly and knowledgeable.. Food was very good , Albacore sashimi, lemon meyer sashimi, crispy tuna rice was soo fresh!! Drinks were pretty great as well! but I will say this the place was beyond overpriced for the average civilian! But its definitely a experience , enjoying the waves , the sounds of the waves while devouring your food is priceless:)
Expectations
"Expectation is the root of all heartache" is a quote I've learned the hard way when it comes to trying restaurants like Nobu Malibu.... and in other areas of life but I'm not tryna trauma dump on here. The Carbones and the Peter Lugers of the world let me down far more often than not, as I'm expecting to be BLOWN away by them. I think it's a mix of my expectations being near impossible to meet, and these businesses know that people will come just off of the hype alone, so it's hard to stay locked in. For context, my girlfriend was coming to LA for the first time and her one and only request was to go to Nobu Malibu, even quoting the Drake line "Eatin crab out in Malibu at Nobuuuuuu" smh. After calling and trying to make a res 24 days in advance, we were put on the waitlist. By the time our trip came around, I was hinting to pookie that God may just not want us to go…. but she said we could go right when it opens and could probably get a seat at the bar. I understood the low probability of this, but thought a spiritual drive up to Malibu would be worth it anyways. Plus, you try telling pookie no. Pookie gets what pookie wants. After the beautiful 58 minute drive from Manhattan Beach filled with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and BlueBucksClan spilling out my Toyota Rav4 speakers, we arrived at the promised land. The valet parks my 2017 Rav4 between a matte G-Wagon and a big body Range, and we walk through the beautiful little courtyard lounge area with the Pacific Ocean maybe 20 feet from us to get to the entrance. We get in at 11:59am (it opens at noon), and it is already PACKED. I was like baby no way we gettin a seat ahahaha...I was ready to just grab an early drink and enjoy the elite ambiance and head up to Point Dume for a meal. We got to the host stand and I put on my best puppy dog eyes, and the host says a table may open up, but we can sit at the bar as there is a full menu. She points over my right shoulder to the bar, and it is completely empty lol. Pookie was right. Before we could even order a drink, the hostess comes up to us and says a table opened up as someone canceled a res. WE UP! I don't even really need to say this, but this ambiance is everything it is cracked up to be. Whatever you're thinking in your head, it's even better. Waves crashing, sun shining. An absolute spiritual experience. We were buzzin that we got in, so we ordered a FEAST: Edamame & Shishito Peppers to start (do both I promise), Spicy Yellowtail Jalapeño, Crispy Rice w Spicy Tuna, Wagyu Tacos, Rock Shrimp Tempura, Black Miso Cod, Spicy Tuna Roll, Shrimp Tempura Roll, Baked Crab Roll. The quality of food at Nobu is just on a whole different level. It really is artistry what they are doing in here. Every bite we would look at each other like DAMN THIS IS HITTIN. Our favorites were the Yellowtail Jalapeño, Crispy Rice, and Black Cod. Those 3 dishes are like the Heatles. Yellowtail Jalapeño is LeBron though. I need to shout out my man Brett, our server. He was delivering the type of service you would expect here. Engaging, funny, and knows the menu like the back of his hand. Just one of those dudes who is happy to be alive and those kinds of people are infectious. Yeah, it's expensive. A special occasion only type beat. Being well north of $400 after a couple drinks each, my pockets were on featherweight. However, it was an experience we will talk about for years to come...and that's exactly what I was paying for. The experience. It is something we will always have together. To me, life is all about stacking these types of experiences with the people that you love and the people that love you. You can't take it with you. So yeah, it was easily worth it. In closing, I can't help but equate Nobu Malibu to LeBron James. The weight of the world on his shoulders, dubbed "The next Michael Jordan" and "The Chosen One" at age 16 comes with a level of expectation that could only set him up to fail. Yet, he still blew them out of the water. LeNobu. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__
Insanely Incredible
Not only is this place beautiful it is the hot spot to be the food is out of this world. Location is key! People watching is sooooo fun. Vibey, cool, a must stop! Fav place to be
Amazing views !!
Came for my birthday & the entire experience was amazing. All the staff members were so attentive & the food was delicious. Getting a reservation during daylight hours which has the best view of the ocean was difficult.
Nobu Malibu- Perfection!
I was skeptical that the reservation would work, but it did like a charm and we had the best Malibu experience for my step sons 21st birthday. No issues at all having the reservation under a different name, we were seated immediately. The Food, drinks and service were all amazing Thank you Appt trader!
The place to go if you don’t want to talk to your company!
I can’t remember the last time I was this uncomfortable….the tables were crammed in so close together. The worst part was the noise: I could not carry on a conversation with the person sitting next to me. The people at the next table were also yelling at each other ( just to be heard - not in anger) so their conversation was overpowering. Although the staff was courteous, it must have been difficult to have patrons screaming orders just to be understood. Our waiter actually took only five of our six orders ( we had to find him again to remind him that there was a forgotten order!). The food came in some random order. My husband, a fast eater, was served first, and had finished before anyone else had eaten! My daughter-in-law got her food after the entire table was finished! Plates were removed quickly….too quickly, and bussers were constantly wiping off the table (this was annoying). The food, itself, was unremarkable.
Mediocre Sushi
We went to Nobu for their famous Sushi. We had Sushi a la carte. The restaurant was beautiful. But the sushi was mediocre. We are sushi lovers and had amazing sushi in many cities. We live in Ohio and go out for sushi regularly. The Albacore was fresh and delicious. Uni was also tasty. Otherwise, salmon & Yellowtail , sweet shrimp were ok. At the recommendation of the server, tried Kampachi and Kinmedai which were terrible. Will not go back for sushi . Maybe their other hot dishes are better .

What to wear at Nobu Malibu? |
'Laid Back Elegance & Glamour' is what I would highly recommend. Paparazzi are waiting outside the restaurant valet with a 95% chance you will encounter an A Lister or Celebrity . Cool linen shirts for men or silk pants for ladies paired with Chrome Hearts glasses in the summer ( just no bathing suits or swim attire any any time) Winter/Fall is all about Cashmere Sweaters and fedoras as it gets cool at night and the main patio is open air! I hope this helps 💃🤩
