Great last minute booking
I was expecting something special and was not disappointed, but definitely pricey! Napa Valley wine complimented lots of varied dishes - all great.
Be the first to ReplyA Christmas lunch to remember
My family and I visited Nobu on Christmas Day and made it one to never forget. The servers are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate - the ingredients are a privilege to work with and they make sure to pay them due respect. Presentation on every dish was exquisite and if you can’t work out what to go for I recommend letting your server know what sort of flavours you like - giving them a rough budget and then enjoying being surprised because nothing will disappoint. Although the Black Cod Nobu is famous for is a MUST.

It was such a hyped that when you visit LA must go to Nobu. We arrived before the door was open as we had a reservation at 12 pm. We were the 2nd guests to walk in and were greeted just normally by the hostess Alexa, she brought us a table which is a small table for 2 in front of a folding door. I looked around there were plenty of seats and I was looking around if she could show me a better table. But she just simply said this is the size of a table for 2 people and walked away not even trying to help. With such a high-end restaurant how could a hostess treat the guests coldly without even trying? The server saved our expectations, KARDELL is such a warm person, explained the menu in detail and not trying to rush us at all. Such a lively and cheerful person which was just the opposit of the hostess.

Reservations: For starters I would echo other's sentiments that even having a reservations tab on their website is useless, and should just be removed (however I think this is done with intent). If you've read any reviews for Nobu Malibu you know that: A) you can't make reservations online B) you have to call their reservation line to make a reservation C) reservations can only be made as far out as 1 month in advance, to the date. Not 30 days, not 31 days. You want a reservation for October 27th, you have to call on September 27th D) Their reservation line opens at 10:00am local time With this information in hand, I made our reservation 1 month in advance, called the exact moment they opened and wound up 14th in the queue. This translated into the earliest available dinner reservation as being 9:15 PM. This of course was no problem for us, as we were on our way to Tahiti and were attempting to acclimate to the time difference anyways. But to say the least, making a reservation as part of the general public appears to be intentionally cumbersome. Food & Drinks: I would say the food is good. Don't expect to be BLOWN AWAY by it or anything, but to be honest I think when you come to Nobu Malibu, you're there more for the ambiance than anything. Among the food that we sampled were some shrimp and tamago nagiri which were fine. The wagyu tacos were quite good. And the rock shrimp tempura and shrimp/lobster in spicy lemon sauce was good as well. I was a big fan of the bento box and definitely would give that a try. All the drinks that we tried were well made, Vespertine, Lychee martini, etc. Staff: The bartenders were quite enjoyable and pleasant, the hostesses rather aloof, and the servers were attentive. Atmosphere: This is the real star of the show here isn't it? The location is superb, and the outdoor area has fantastic views. Great venue for celebrity spotting, as we saw a couple while there.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Service and Food!
From the Service to the food everything was Amazing! Our server guided us through the menu and made very good recommendations that we tried. My husband had the Omakase -Multi course menu option, and I tried a little bit of everything, from the scallops for appetizers, the Wagyu Tacos, the Lobster and shrimp entree, everything was Outstanding. Looking forward to another trip to Nobu!

we arrived a touch late and our car was taken by the valet which all went smoothly we were greeting and promptly shown to our table; it was outside and had the must stunning views of the sea and the rest of the restaurant. straight away we had still water, which was constantly refilled throughout the meal, i didn’t have an empty glass once! we then ordered food after the menu had been explained to us since this was our first time in nobu, we first pursed a few cold fish dishes, some miso soup and the ribeye tacos, all of which were perfect and i would get again in a heartbeat Our second course of lobster, two different types of steak, squid pasta and dover sole arrived, yet again all of them were perfect The rest of the party i was in eat fish however i’ve never liked it at all, however every single bit of fish i tried here i had seconds (or thirds!) Next we ordered some pieces of sushi as a palette cleanser which tasted perfect with the soy spice and finished with the iconic bento box. I particularly liked the style of the bento box and it was really fun! All in all, this was one of my favourite meals ever! We are in California for 6 more nights and i don’t think we’ll get a meal better than this! (we phoned up exactly 30 days in advance which i would recommend if you want an outside seat)
Be the first to ReplyHorrendous reservations system
I am from Singapore and had wanted to book lunch for 20 November. Since early October I have since emailed Nobu thrice but no reply. Simultaneously I tried the open table system and until 21 October it’s still stated as “the restaurant does not take reservations so far in advance”. I have tried at least 20 times on a daily basis since October. So today I decided to pay for an international call but was told they are fully booked on 20 November? Can you just remove your system with Open Table? In this digital age you are forcing customers to call internationally. Why set up the Open Table?

We really loved it here, drinks were nice and strong! We sat in the sun with a beautiful view and it was perfect.

Yes, it's a bit of a scene with the crowds, and the stream of "Nobu beach photos" taken by influencer wannabes is annoying BUT the food and roaring waves of carbon beach are worth it. You will see all types of people here -- my advice is to keep it low key and enjoy the company you're keeping. Not everything needs to be documented.

I must say the location is absolutely beautiful. The staff was nice. Our order did take a bit longer than expected but it was busy.
Be the first to ReplyDISCRIMINATION BASED ON DISABILITY AND NATIONAL ORIGIN
My partner, who is elderly and suffers from serious disabilities—namely, diabetes osteoarthritis, and recent total replacements for both knees—had an atrocious experience after many years of loyalty. After we arrived on July 14 at noon, hostess Alexa sized us up and visibly scoffed at our Ukrainian badges and insignia, which we both prominently and proudly wore in support of Ukraine during the war. She rudely insistent that we wait despite our pleas to be seated as our third person was unlikely to make it due to circumstances beyond our control. As we explained to her manager (see below), if we were not to seated my partner would have likely passed out and been in a lot of pain. After a very embarrassing exchange with Alexa, she finally sat us at a table, which was inappropriate for a handicapped person despite our plea to move us. Alexa refused, using the excuse that “all tables have been reserved” as she again looked our Ukrainian outfits up and down. Her discrimination was obvious on its face. We immediately addressed this issue with Alisa, the alleged manager on duty. She squarely refused to do anything about it and refused to move us to an appropriate table despite me reminding her that their actions were in violation of both federal and state law. Indeed, she has implemented a double standard right before our eyes as she sat a single gentleman at a large table, whose party showed up at least 30 minutes late. Again, very obvious discrimination. Unfortunately, my partner was quickly fading away, so we had to stay and have him eat at least something before we could leave for another place. All in all, this has caused significant public embarrassment and discomfort for my partner. Poor sole. This incident is particularly disappointing because both my partner and I have been very loyal patrons of Nobu across the world. The Nobu restaurants used to be where we’d take out business partners, clients and family for years without an issue. That will be unlikely the case moving forward. We will escalate this issue to the HQ, as well as the local government, including congressman Ted Lieu. Nobu is in a serious need of management change, staff training on disability laws and an anti discrimination policy.
Be the first to ReplyHorrible service- Rude people, Overpriced, BAD experience ! Don't fall for the HYPE!
I wished I had looked at the low-rating reviews on google before going here as they all have a common thread.. " Bad attitude and Service". This generally means the company has. poor culture and this trickles down from the top. The kitchen is super slow, the food very small, too salty, and overpriced. After spending $150, had to drive to Malibu Farm and have a real meal.

Nice Japanese restaurant located in Malibu area with beach front, spacious suitable for large group, well decorated and nice setup. The food was tasty in general, some platters I would say tasted perfect and some a bit less but good. Excellent service, high prices. Highly recommended. Note: a prior reservation is advisable.

WoW, WoW, WoW. A meal here is an absolute treat. The service is second to none ie. The server’s detail about each dish (thank you Tahere), fabulous. The location, ambience and quality of food and service amazing. What could they do better perhaps provide more training to their central telephone team who are at times ‘plain rude’. For them you wouldn’t eat here but work through that because once you get through the doors bliss - we’ll done yum!

Consistent with other international Nobus, this place was full of interesting guests, all happy with the world class menu. Great location, right on the beach, loved the valet. Our waitress was knowledgeable and on target with her recommendations. Thankyou
Be the first to ReplyFamous because of famous people having low standards! Good for your insta but that’s it!
Here we go again. Serving high profile people but the food… I do get better food in a small average restaurant in Glasgow or in Los Angeles than here. Typical famous because famous people are visiting who obviously doesn’t have any standards. Just a show off for your insta or Facebook but actually if you have standards and you don’t care about showing off please do yourself a favour and go somewhere else. Small portions, very expensive the quality isn’t there.
Be the first to ReplyService, view, food. Experience Nobu.
We ate here with a 2:30 reservation on a Sunday. The view is beautiful as well as the surroundings. The food is excellent, although pricey. It is a great special occasion restaurant. Reservations are needed and fill up two months in advance, so plan accordingly. I would eat here again. You are paying for the experience, food, and atmosphere. Service is excellent.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing place and amazing service
The Nobu Malibu is so incredible. I’ve been to a few (Marbella, London, etc) but they are all forgettable except the Malibu location. We asked for a table out by the water when we booked and they said they couldn’t guarantee it but were able to seat us exactly with our request when we arrived! Fantastic service and amazing food. Would go back in a heartbeat. Thank you for making our visit so special
Be the first to ReplyGood but not amazing food, great location and staff
I went here today for my birthday, a solo diner. They don't let you make reservations for one person so I was advised to show up and hope for the best. Nobu opens at 12 so I got there at about 11:45, and joined a small line that had formed. I overheard other people in line, including a party of 3, with no reservations. I also overheard people saying if you get there early in the day you can usually get in without a reservation.
Sure enough we all got in reservation or not, though the tables outside by the water were all fully reserved already. I was given the choice of eating at a table inside or at any high table I wanted in the bar, and picked a stool table at the bar that overlooked the water, which was essentially the same as eating outside. The party of 3 sat at stools inside the bar overlooking the water as well. Beautiful view, and unlike most restaurants that play annoying or bad music way too loudly the music playing was the right volume and was catchy and upbeat. I asked about it and was told they hire someone to curate a custom playlist, very cool. The entire wait staff was very friendly, casual, and helpful.
I ordered their signature dish, the black cod miso, plus a baked crab roll, 2 drinks (passion fruit lychee and passion fruit shichimi), and chocolate harumaki for dessert. All of it was very good. I wouldn't say amazing, or notably different from other sushi and seafood I've had, but definitely tasty and on the higher quality end. The drinks were excellent and somewhat unusual, however, in a good way. I paid $104 for everything, with tax. The prices are high yes, but pretty comparable to many restaurants in Malibu in general. Cos... Malibu. The views are worth it! A great experience, definitely worth a visit to feel fancy!
Horrible customer service and restaurant experience
I was so looking forward to coming to Nobu in Malibu. I've been to the New York restaurants and the Nobu owned Matsuhisa in Athens Greece. I've had the best experiences at those restaurants so I was very excited and so assured I would have the best experience at the Malibu location. Well... I was wrong. I brought some of my clients and friends into nobu Malibu for a celebration dinner. We were sat inside at the very first table next to the hostess stand in in the walk way of the servers and food runners. At first I asked for another table but they said they're were non available. I sat down with my party and we ordered drinks and food. As our dinner started. I was bumped into at least 7 times by waiters as the walked by quickly. I finally got up to quietly ask to speak to a manager because I hate complaining and didn't want to disturb my party anymore than we were by getting bumped into. After waiting for 10 min to talk to someone. Troy the manager came up and as I told him what was going on he mocked what I said which is so out of line and completely disrespectful. I had said I had been bumped into 50 times now obviously that's an over exaggeration but I was trying to get my point across how much it was happening. He then looks at me and mocked me by repeating and saying, "oh yeah you were bumped into 50 times" laughing at me. I feel like if I was a man he would not of treated me the same way that he treated me as a woman. I then pointed out to him that the restaurant was completely empty and we had been sitting there for about an hour and if we have another table. He then looked at his watch and said it was 6 PM and that he was going to fill up all the seats. He never fully filled up all of the restaurant tables he could've easily had moved us but instead cut me off and said "so we are good". I said no and he walked off. I have never been treated this badly at a restaurant before. And now this situation is what I'll remember when I think of nobu Malibu. Horrible customer service. With a manager who does not care about the customer or restaurant experience.

We went here on Sunday for my Son Bday. First, I cannot ever mane a reservation even I tried months ago
- when we were there, wait for 2 hours so we sat outside at the waiting area, when we saw a table ( where they has umbrellas) was empty we tried to move there but there water told us w a very unfriendly voice. “Reservation only”
- We decided to go into the bar other drinks and foods while waiting so I saw the guy gave the receptionist $40. What is that for? Will he get table faster than us? Who knows
- After lunch we went back outside to take some photos and one again not really friendly voice try to put us away
We don’t come here spend thousands $ to get those kind of treat. Been here few times but after all I will never want to come back again.
Amazing food and location. Frat house guests.
I have been to Nobu in New York many times and Nobu in other cities. This location is unparalleled - outside terrace above the breakers with a fireplace in the winter. And of course the food is outstanding. As we were waiting for our table in the bar, two guys at the bar who appeared to be regulars were yelling and cheering about everything including the football game on the TV and the choice of liquor.
The at dinner, we had a table for two where we could see the waves breaking. Right next to us was a group of what appeared to be college football players with their girlfriends. About every 10 minutes they would start yelling “heyyoooooh.” They kept it up for two hours. As they drank more, they began throwing their plates like frisbees into the ocean. It reminded me of college bars that were great at 19. Not so great for me when we have a choice of many great restaurants.
Two stars and not because the food was not great!
I have been to Nobu's all over the world and never been disappointed -- the food is always amazing and the service exceptional .... except at Nobu Malibu. Don't get me wrong, the food here is just as good but it's the vibe that is really really off. You expect that there will be attitude in Malibu -- it's the Bu after all, but this location takes snotty to a new level. Clearly, they hold tables for the celebrities, clearly, they cater to the regulars, but come on guys, you take this to the extreme. The hostesses here are off the chain rude and dismissive and if you are not from the hood, forget it. Service is harried and spotty and the wait staff are rushed and disorganized. We had so many wait staff attending to us, we couldn't tell them apart. It's such a shame, because the food is sooooo good. Please get it together Nobu Malibu and start by simply being nice to your regular customers -- trust me, we will be grateful!

Believe it or not, Nobu is worth all of the hype. Not sure what the best part would be honestly. We did not have a reservation so we walked in. We were told it would be at least 2 hours, no big deal because we were expecting it. We sat at the bar, had delicious drinks, and the bartender gave wonderful appetizer suggestions to us. I talked to the hostess a few different times to check in and they were all very sweet. (Just a heads up though, if you have Verizon you will not have service here/ very limited service.) The last time I spoke with the hostess I expressed my concern about being sat before the kitchen closed, we preferred to be able to eat our entrees at the table. They reassured me that we would be sat before the kitchen closed and to not worry. We hun out for about an hour and a half and the hostess came to get us from the bar to bring us to our table. Server was great! My boyfriend was debating between the wagyu and the ribeye and our waiter immediately suggested the ribeye when being asked what he personally prefers on the menu. The ribeye was cooked to perfection with amazing favor. I opted fo the sushi and got 3 rolls, the spicy tuna hand roll, the yellowtail and scallion hand roll and the house roll (which was a rainbow roll just all inside of the sushi). I also got the miso soup as well. It was absolutely amazing. I also got the passionfruit cocktail and it was amazing.
Overall amazing experience, next time we are in California we will definitely be back!
Worth the splurge
Outstanding as expected. Brought my partner and another couple here, and the freshness, attention to detail, and the experience of eating sushi prepared by a true craftsman was well worth the price point.
This restaurant isn’t cheap. Of course it isn’t. But for what you pay, the value received is a dinner experience in Malibu that exceeds most other places at this level, especially with the view and ambiance.
