Came back after 4 years. Cash only *Service was attentive. Food came out quick. All the dishes ordered was delicious.
Be the first to ReplySolid option in chinatown for malaysian food.
The menu is extensive and covers every malay/singaporean dish I can think of. We shared the roti, chicken satay skewers, char kuey teow, nasi lemak, and eggplant with shrimp. The roti was so crispy and went well with the curry. The sauce for the satay stood out, as well as the chicken and coconut rice in nasi lemak! My friend really likes their eggplant and I agree that each dish here is solid, if not that special, and very affordable for nyc!

So so good!!! One of my first times having Malaysian food and it definitely didn't disappoint! Went on a Friday night and didn't have to wait, but it was pretty full. They don't seem to take reservations even though they said they did, so that was a bit confusing. The food came out fairly quickly which was nice.Nasi lemak- super flavorful, good ratio of meat to veggies to riceNoodles- loved the smoky flavor, almost like a smoky pad see ewRoti canai- the curry sauce was soooo good!! I think the roti became a little to crispy so will probably get the prata next time but still really goodBeef rendang- very flavorful and not too heavy! Ended up with leftover after 3 hungry people ate a lot and the price only came out to $20 a person after tax/tip which is practically unheard of these days for a good quality meal in Manhattan. Definitely check this out!!!
Be the first to ReplyCame here to order a Roti Telur.
The Malaysian restaurant looks like casual dining where the interior isn't old school. This place is cash-only but has an ATM machine. The servers here speak Cantonese. There were several Caucasian and one South Asian parties.Service here was fast. Would come again.
Be the first to ReplyAMAZING! Best Malaysian meal i have had outside of Malaysia.
My GFs and I have decided to come back every year all coming from different parts of the US. Below are my review of each dish- Roti telur (prata with eggs)- soooo good. Flaky fluffy and crunchy all at the same time. The dipping sauce curry is so tasty I would order it separately. Cantonese style hor fun (wide rice noddles with egg drop soup)- the bomb! So satisfying. The flavor is perfect, light yet creamy (without the cream), not too salty or felt greasy. The seafood is fresh and plenty. The most important is the 'wok' heat. It has that! Char kuey teow (wide rice noodles stir fry like savory pad ke mao in Thai food)- one of the most important aspect of this dish is the 'wok' heat. It has that! The rest will taste good because they know eggs they are doing. Asam laksa (chewy udon type noodles in sour spicy fish based broth)- I would give this a 4 stars. I like it but I prefer a more sour version. This could be a personal preference. But they have everything a good asam laksa should have. Kangkung belacan (water spinach- a crunchy leafy veggies with spicy fermented fish paste)- this is an acquired tastes but this place made it perfectly!!!! So much depth and deliciousness. The spice level is a tad high but Would have this everyday. Fish head curry- if I have to skip a dish, it would be this. It lacks flavor like something is missing. The photo looks great though.

Quite extensive menu and all the dishes we ordered came in decent size and packed with flavors. I have to deduct a star because of it's cash-only policy. Not ideal for a lot of diners and could be quite inconvenient for everyone.
Be the first to ReplyJust a typical Malaysian restaurant.
Large portion sizes so it is great to share or for leftovers for the next day. For appetizers, the Roti Canai/Prata was the best dish. The curry/broth was incredibly delicious and the roti was thin and flakey. Chicken satay came with about 6 skewers which was great for sharing as well. Well seasoned but not mind blowing. Same thing with the chicken fried rice.

Have been meaning to try this place for years, and finally wandered in here after being shut out of various hot pot places in Chinatown. The jovial owner ushered us in with a warning that it was CASH ONLY. A quick assay of our finances revealed that we had $100 between the four of us, which was more than enough for the meal. The roti canai is a must have. The Hainanese chicken is delicious but not really authentic (if you care). Huge menu but everything was authentic.

Ok so we went on Sunday night and it was our first time- we asked the waiter to make some recommendations and we enjoyed a smattering of entrees-all were YUMMY!We had the chicken satay appetizer, the mango shrimp, the young chow fried rice, curry beef, and green veggies that the waiter offered to change up the sauce to a garlic sauce because he felt it would be too fishy-so I can't comment on the original sauce but we loved it in the garlic sauce. Will go back and be even more adventurous:)

Located on Grand Street, just north of Manhattan's Chinatown, Nyonya serves up a flavorful Malaysian experience. Nyonya, which means "lady" in Malay, proudly claims to introduce Americans to authentic flavors which it imports from Malaysia like Galangal and ginger flower. I believe that Nyonya achieves their goal of acquainting ignorant Americans like myself with quality Malaysian dishes. Walking into this dimly lit restaurant, I immediately was confronted by an exposed brick interior and loud chatter in the background so I assumed that the restaurant would offer a modern twist to traditional dishes. Happily, I was mistaken. While the outer appearance of the restaurant may be modern, its inner soul is of a mom-and-pop shop. With over two million Malaysians of Indian descent living in Malaysia, Indian cuisine has become the country's staple with Roti Canai arguably the most famous type of this food. While crispy, unfortunately, there is not much to chew as Nyonya serves its roti so thin that it is almost transparent. However, the flavor within this tiny serving packs a powerful punch. Nyonya serves its roti with a chicken curry that has a very comforting flavor with supremely tender chicken that is not unique to Nyonya. What a great dish to start off my meal! For the rest of the article, visit my blog here:freshbite.org/articles/n…

Affordable and tasty! We were wondering around lower Manhattan looking for an Asian spot and stumbled on this spot. For the price, it was solid.
Be the first to ReplySesame chicken was fried in old smelly oil.
Squid was smelling awful. Not recommended.

We ordered a few things here! The Malaysian iced tea tastes like raisins which wasn't bad but unexpected Roti canai very crispy and not chewy and glutinous like I prefer - would not get againRoti prata really good and chewy and curry sauce was nice and butteryCurry mee with shredded chicken was good- the chicken was not seasoned but nice and moist because of the soup, nice curry flavor that was slightly spicy, could have had more vegetables in itNyonya house special squid was excellent with a Thai chili heat though beware of peppers being caught and hiding in pieces of squidMalaysian iced coffee was good and would recommend if you like iced coffees

We came here for lunch and this spot really hits home on the flavor, portion, and aroma, in terms of Malaysian food. We started with the Roti Telur, which is basically the roti, wrapped with egg and onion. The curry dipping sauce was perfection. We loved this dish, and it was definitely heartier than the regular roti order. The roti skin was fluffy, and it was filled adequately with egg and onion. We ordered the Curry Mee with Young Tau Foo, which consisted of egg noodles in a spicy lemongrass coconut curry with tofu and vegetables stuffed with minced fish. The stuffed items were really plump and big, which made he dish extra hearty. But, any noodle dish with a rich, and milky curry base is good, especially with the egg noodles. I always get this dish when I visit this place. We also ordered half a Hainanese chicken, which was also really good! Highly recommend this for the table to share. The chicken was juicy, and packed with flavor. We also ordered the pearl noodles in the clay pot, which was a first, but the noodles were really chewy and plump. The soup base was really creamy as well. Highly recommend this place, and whenever you are in the mood for some Mayalsian food, please visit this place. It is also cash only, so bring some cash with you!

A gem in Chinatown! Highly recommend you check them out! This restaurant has improved so much in recent years - their menu has a variety of different delicious options. Here are a few I've tried:- Sauteed okra - 5/5 - they didn't skimp on the shrimp and it was delicious and with a good amount of shrimp paste! - Pineapple fried rice - 5/5 - it might not sound typical but it was definitely the meal highlight! - Sizzling yee mee platter - 4/5 - the noodles weren't the yee mein I was expecting - they were a little thinner and closer to a thin lo mein noodle type. The dish was a little too saucy, but still a filling dish. Yes, it is cash only and not all dishes hit the mark - but there is likely something either tasty or new to check out every time you drop by!
Be the first to ReplyPretty affordable spot for Malaysian food in chinatown.
Nice for a sit down meal.We came by for a casual lunch date. The inside is surprisingly big and everything felt very clean. It was very busy but we were able to get seated immediately without a reservation. We shared the roti prata and I ordered the Singapore noodles. The roti prata was buttery, flakey, and delicious. I would definitely order more next time. For the Singapore noodles, I'm used to seeing a dish with a lot more turmeric and egg, but I really enjoyed my order at nyonya. It's not too spicy and there's plenty of veggies and shrimp mixed in with the noodles- it felt like a pretty well balanced meal.Overall, would definitely recommend nyonya for dine in and I'm looking forward to trying other parts of their menu.
Be the first to ReplyNyonya has been a chinatown mainstay for decades.
You must try the roti canai (I recommend one per person) as well as the haianese chicken dish. I wish they weren't cash only but there's a nearby Chase which is convenient.

Nyonya is really good! We walked in on a Friday evening around 6:30 pm and got seated right away. It's pretty big inside. The fried buns appetizer is so good we ordered two of them. The mee siam was also my favorite dish here. Definitely worth trying out even if there's a wait.
Be the first to ReplyService was fast and friendly.
Food was good but nothing I would crave on a regular basis. Got Roti Canai, Prawn Mee, Kari Ayam (chicken curry). The roti was flakey but didn't pick up the curry dip well, as the curry was a bit too runny. The Prawn Mee tasted singularly of only shrimp paste. The chicken curry was fall off the bone tender, but was a bit too strong on peanut butter. Prices are cheap for the portion sizes, which are pretty big (everything came out to $35 pre tax/tip).
Be the first to ReplyThe place is cute and the atmosphere is welcoming.
The food was authentic , price is definitely reasonable however the food was not tasting fresh. The curry chicken was cold.Overall its an ok place to go if you want to experience malaysian cuisine .

Highly recommend the food at this restaurant, very authentic and delicious. However, I was a bit of disappointed today. Their service really turn me down. The chicken was late and we did not have it until we almost finished our lunch.I asked the waitress to pack our steam chicken and she put all the sauce in the box (see attached picture) that leaked in our bag. Even worse, they threw away our chilly sauce that came with the chicken and did not give us one. So I asked for a additional sauce and I was asked to pay for $0.25. Excuse me?Well, after the waiter checked our to-go box, the fee was waived.FYI, the restaurant was not even half full today, so no excuse for slacking

Wish I could say my follow up visit was better, and while service was a tad faster, something's definitely changed with this place post pandemic. The dishes are tasty, but there are inconsistencies with serving sizes- some casserole dishes are huge and some are standard size, so we left kinda hungry. When we didn't get rice until we were finished with everything I was just sad. I loved this place and will likely come again, but maybe I'll avoid the weekend from now on.

First off this place is CASH ONLY! Roti canai with the chicken/potato curry dip is everything. If it was up to me I'll eat this dish everyday. I'm very picky where I get Roti canai, but this place makes it just right, thick and crispy. The shrimp with lady fingers has the right amount of spice to it and it's a bit slimy due to the okra but I find it so delicious.
