Post Bankruptcy Ghost - Avoid @ All Cost
A disgraceful joke and ghost of the pre-bankruptcy restaurant. The menu got worse & more generic and the prices went through the roof. Granted, the former O&V was mismanaged, but at least the kitchen tried and prices were reasonable. Visit for assured disappointment.
Be the first to ReplyGreat outdoor spot to meet friends after work!
Great outdoor place to meet friends for drinks and appetizers... that then can easily turn into dinner. This is a nice spot away from downtown and Stanford Shopping Center but still easy to get to in Palo Alto. The area outside is wide open and comfortable. All the food was delicious.
Be the first to ReplyExceptional Wedding Reception
My daughters wedding reception was held in the courtyard of the Park James Hotel where we enjoyed the special cocktails created at their indoor/outdoor bar. The Oak & Violet restaurant within the Park James Hotel provided the delicious food. Our guests were first treated to truffle fries and charcuterie during the cocktail hour. They were raving about the dinner which included grilled ribeye with roasted garlic herb potatoes and Vadouvan spice chicken breast with sweet potato hash. The service provided by the manager Chris and servers Philipe and Sarah made all of us feel special. They truly went above and beyond to make sure my daughter and son-in-law had a beautiful and memorable experience. I look forward to returning to dine at Oak & Violet restaurant
Be the first to ReplyBig disappontment
Ribeye steak was not even ordinary. Cooked OK, but the cut of meat was very poor quality. Far too much fat and gristle. Accompanying veggies just average. Paella wouldnโt be recognized by a Spaniard. Brussels sprouts were excellent as starter. Old fashioned cocktail tasted good but was meager In quantity. Mostly ice. We had been a couple years ago and had had a very nice meal, unlike this tonight. Thus, the disappointment. Not worth going back.
Be the first to ReplyNice patio dining with delicious food/beverages and great service
We were staying at the Fairfield across the street and decided to eat outside next to one of the fires. The service was great as we were given some recommendations along with prompt delivery of our drinks and dinners.
There was even some music playing which added to the enjoyment of the evening.
We would definitely return if we were in the area.
Delicious
Food is great but it lacks identity. I am not quite sure what cuisine it is. Limited menu but they all look amazing.
Be the first to ReplyGood place for Patio Dining, with good food and good service
We went to celebrate a Birthday and wanted a place with outside physically distanced dining with heaters and Oak and Violet offered that. We ordered the toasted Brussel Sprouts (very good), Charcuterie Platter(ok), Burrata Prosciutto (ok) Fish Tacos ( 3 tacos with a fried haddock but sauces were not spicy enough) Fried Chicken Sandwich was very good . Why do all Fried foods taste so good? We like the house made Buns, and also ordered the artisanal Pizza which was just ok. The Stuffed Bronzino was very good and we added a side of Roasted Vegetables . We had some of their cocktails Salty Sea Dog was good and the whiskey pour was a bit stingy. Service was good although not very coordinated. Would definitely go back again.
Be the first to ReplyAVOID like the plague!
This "unfinished" glam hotel/restaurant with one of the worst locations in Menlo Park was charging big bucks (~ $750+/night), pre-COVID. The fancy bar drinks are mediocre, yet somewhat reasonable for the area & the patio can be nice if no smoke from the fires, extreme heat, or rain, that roughly lasted from Jan 2019 - June, as the venue apparently failed, and still has yet to take prudent measures to arrange some form of overhead tarp, or the likes thereof, so to take advantage of its a huge outside patio. (And now, with COVID - OUCH!)
The menu, outside of "petit" changes (e.g., and forgive the pun, the removal of the 40 ounce bone-in filet mignon & petite 16 oz (?) filet, converting to a simple, straight-up and pretty run of the mill generic filet w/ bone marrow), has changed little since its foolish clown chef consultants conceived it (just prior to the grand opening in October, 2018). They apparently didn't know that the venue's Frank's Hot Sauce-based signature Buffalo Lollipop Wing dressing contained vinegar - like... WHAT?) and not surprisingly, departed to โscoots-villeโ shortly after the opening. Thereafter, the hotel/restaurant apparently went downhill fast, undergoing incredible staff turnover with multiple+ senior- to junior-level kitchen and general management departures.
With only four or five true protein main courses & some decent appetizers & sides (but no soup, nor bread (outside of expensive pan-baked-to-order ritzy ($) business), salt/pepper, butter, espresso & most other traditional accoutrements, many fine restaurant staples are noticeably absent from the O+V service offering (as are most great non-California-sourced wines).
In closing, any visitor or local should anticipate much more in respect to consistent food quality, traditional restaurant hospitality practices and professional service. A nice, but poorly executed idea, and unfortunately, the local owners, financiers & nearby residents are going to pay the price of this poorly managed farce of an eyesore, with sky-high prices, and little service value to offer to the community at large for years to come. If mini lobster tacos are the best bet ~ pass on the bet! (PS: Beware of absurd, hidden up-charges for things like "a classic cocktail," and ~ $30+ for a modest salad with a ~ 6 oz "side salmon.")
Lastly, I noticed that, generally, in addition to an ant infestation around the bar area (not surprising, given the citrus juice/syrup & garnish preparation and massive indoor/outdoor "cross-border" food and drink handling and lack of regular, sufficient best practice cleaning and bussing going on BEHIND THE BAR (forget about the kitchen!)). Apparently, the bartenders and courtyard waitstaff serve food & prepare drinks with ready-to-eat food/garnishes without ANY standard observable sanitary hand washing/measures (no soap in sight!); nor did it appear that any safe food & beverage handling practices were employed. AVOID like the plague!
