Made reservations (March16)at Borgata for my 60th birthday and dinner at Old Homestead . Been kind of a tradition most years until the pandemic hit so was super excited to return . We arrived promptly at 8:55 for our 9:00pm reservation and wow what a big disappointment . Place has made some remodeling adjustments and tweaks and completely destroyed all of its intimacy . Gone are the days of walking down their sleek narrow and dimly lit entranceway . Accompanied with with nicely appointed backlighting illuminating the walls and floor of this sleek & beautifully crafted walkway to the host stand of this opulent restaurant . Sadly that wall has now been torn down to make way for a large crowded and deafening bar echoing the screeches and laughter of the patrons . No cushioned ceiling tiles or carpets to be found . We moved on to the new host stand where we were not even greeted by the snobbish black host who was to busy fiddling with his ear bud and jotting things down to notice us standing right in front of him . As i moved closer to him and said we were here for our 9pm reservation he finally told us it would be 15 min and to wait to the side . For a host being the first person you see in a restaurant he certainly was far from welcoming , quite standoffish ,dismissive and never smiling once . Now the young girl who took us to our table on the other hand was adorable , sweet ,bubbly and accommodating ..We were then greeted by a nice gentlemen , given the menus along with the wine list which is on an Ipad placed on the table . Not a mention of specials . Ice cold butter was then brought over with a choice of 2 underwhelming room temperature rolls one with nuts .(no mention about that to those with allergies ). Place was so chaotic and loud we could barely hear ourselves talking let alone here the waiter .. We ordered the 2 piece shrimp cocktail which came out frozen and went back ,the thick cut bacon (which was more like a pork belly )was so tough and chewy but we were so hungry we picked around the hard pieces and ate it . Then came my wedge salad . Single handedly the most disgusting presentation i've ever seen in my 60 years of fine dining . It wasn't a wedge it was half of a head of iceberg lettuce placed upside down on the plate like a helmet and then doused with so much blue cheese dressing that it was soaked and inedible . No crispy onion straws on top nor raw red onion just a rock hard plum tomato . Not even some warm crispy cut up pieces of bacon on top instead they threw a bunch of bacon bits on it from a jar .. To make matters worse the lettuce was room temperature not even crisp nor cold ...a disgrace . I asked to speak to a manager. The female manager that came over listened to what i was saying (impatiently) as i showed her the salad and she agreed . I explained how excited i was to come here for my birthday and then she took the plate away said she would take it off the bill and briskly walked away . No apologies whatsoever no acknowledgment of my birthday no "i'm so sorry can i get you a fresh one " nothing .. zilch . Oh wait she did say someone new was making the salads . (obviously). Regardless It was busy, she was frazzled and she was in no mood and let me know it . My friend who i was with picked up on her vibe and said she was quite snarky .. Honestly at this price point i wouldn't have even deemed her fit to manage a diner let alone a high end steakhouse . Truly despicable. We both ordered Filets which came out cooked wrong and mine was not even hot yet half grey and half pink . Mashed potato's arrived in what looked like black plastic dish form a dollar store or something you would get at the Cracker Barrel . Potatoes had no taste and no roasted garlic in them whatsoever tasted like they just tossed in cold minced garlic from a jar . Inedible . I called over a different gentlemen in a suit whom ended up being an assistant manager . This man was professional ,kind ,agreed the steak was cooked wrong , asked if i wanted a new one (which i declined ) brought me a creme brûlée for dessert and took my entire dinner and drink off the check . He was wonderful ..I couldn't have cared less about the money it was the whole experience that tainted a very important birthday . Sadly i will now always remember this story when people ask me what fabulous thing i did for my 60th . Shame on you Homestead i hope you respond back to me with that female managers name because she had such attitude and was so flippant i would never return when she was there . Your an extremely expensive and high end restaurant i never in my life expected this level of service and presentation of food. Even your signature drink was served to me in a tumbler glass you would give a small child a glass of milk in . It should have been served in a wine goblet . Please get it together Homestead you we're always one of my favorites .
