Beautiful and calm
A beautiful oasis of calm with wonderful views over gardens and church. A hidden gem. I had a wonderful afternoon with a quiet escapist ambiance. High end and quality but discreet and low key
Be the first to ReplySuperb!
We had the taster menu with the matching wines. The restaurant feels very classy and it has big windows that look out on the church grounds. Service was excellent. The food was as good as we've had at Michelin starred restaurants, and the matching wines were really good too. Our favourite courses were the Dorset crab with mango, and the cheese, but all of the courses were very tasty. The only worry for the restaurant was that on a Friday night in mid April, the restaurant was less than half full, which I find hard to understand when it is just so good!

Exceptional meal with great wine. Everyone was friendly and the service was great. Definitely going back in the summer when the terrace is open. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food, bizarre service
Dinner last night in Orrery: surprising that it was only a quarter occupied on a Saturday evening. Attractive, airy space, though the terrace is obviously not open yet. Delicious food all round for our group of five. What was strange was the service. I was greeted by waiter #1 saying to me “I see you have a limp. Is that because you have just had a tattoo? I had one a couple of days ago and it’s making me limp slightly”. He then pulled his trouser up slightly to display his very colourful tattoo. Waiter #2 seemed to think that the jocular, mildly rude sort of humour you get in stand-ups was appropriate (“I’m only taking questions on the menu from the ladies”. “No, we don’t have any asparagus for you. No, just joking”). And he managed to tap four or of the five of us on the shoulder at different times during the meal to get our attention (when, for example, he was ready to take the wine order). An absolutely bizarre experience. At some point in the meal, waiter #1 seemed to realise that this behaviour was not appropriate and came across to apologize profusely. He was going to offer the coffee on the house but, since we had already paid, made an offer instead of a free glass of champagne if/when we return. Overall, this experience was an amusing one, but I have never experienced anything like it before.
Be the first to ReplySmart restaurant
This is a smart restaurant. We started with a glass of champagne. We had two courses from the chef's menu. A tasting menu and a la carte were also available. The food was delicious and beautifully presented.

What a great restaurant this is. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Great ambiance too. We had a lovely leisurely lunch.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic dinner
First time I’ve dined at the Orrery, I wasn’t disappointed, the food, wine and service was all amazing, we will certainly be coming back. I had the chicken liver parfait as my starter and the venison for my main both of which were delicious. My wife had the ceviche for her starter which apart from the citrus juice she really enjoyed followed by the cod which she said was excellent.
Be the first to ReplyMiserable Waiters Marred Our Evening
I have been to Orrery before, but it was some years ago. As it is near where I live I was hoping it would be good. Indeed the setting was really pleasant and the food was pretty good, even if a bit expensive. But what let down our evening was the service. The girl who took our coats was welcoming and friendly. But that was the last smile or hint of any spark of friendliness we saw for the whole evening. While not actually being abusive, all the waiters who served us were off-hand and grumpy. It was as though having customers was a major effort and an unwelcome imposition on their time. It's a pity because if we're made to feel that unwelcome we won't be going there again.
Be the first to ReplyImpeccable......
Our favourite restaurant still. Impeccable food, Restaurant Manager, Sommelier and staff. Eating out does not get any better than this. We shall be back in 2024 - don't ever change.
Be the first to ReplyGreat night!!
We had a lovely evening from start to finish. Had the tasting menu with matching wines - was superb and the wines were exceptional. Staff were great and knowledgeable. All in all a perfect anniversary meal and would highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful experience
Excellent lunch at The Orrery. Food was delicious, especially the raviolo and consommé starter and desserts. Service was extremely good as would be expected. Restaurant beautifully decorated for Christmas and lovely celebratory atmosphere with many tables occupied. They prepared a birthday plate for my friend which was much appreciated. Only negative were some strange comments from a waiter about a mark on the tablecloth which apparently is unacceptable in Europe. We found this really odd that he would comment to customers in this way. Anyway we had a lovely time and happy to return.
Be the first to ReplyExceptional
It’s been a few years since we’ve had the pleasure of eating at the Orrery but it is as good as ever. Every dish was beautifully presented and delicious, the wine pairing a delight and the staff attentive. Thank you for making a precious child free evening so perfect.
Be the first to ReplyGood food, poor service
The food is good, though quite expensive. The restaurant is a delightful space, though on the night I went, only five tables were occupied. Unfortunately, the service was amateurish: no one to take our coats; wine ordered but not brought to the table until we asked again; staff leaning across guests. When a server knocked over a full glass of wine, I had to ask for the wine to be replaced, given that I obviously didn't drink it! Everyone was friendly, but some more customer service training is required, at this price point.
Be the first to ReplySpecial private dining experience
We booked a private dining room at the Orrery to celebrate a family event. The room itself was light and spacious with the sofas, bar area and corner location providing a lovely backdrop. From the moment we arrived, all staff were friendly, very attentive and accommodating. All the dishes were beautifully presented and enjoyed by everyone. Overall, it was a fabulous dining experience.

It has been many years since I have been to Orrery when we celebrated a friend's birthday. This time it was another birthday treat and most welcome. The Chef's Menu is good value at £45 a head for three courses and a glass of champagne or a cocktail to begin with. Excellent hot home-baked bread and savoury butter put us in a good mood for our starters. My Caramelised onion tart with a crisp flaky pastry base loaded with a thick slice of onion, a slab of pate de campagne and topped with a healthy dollop of goat's cheese made a brilliant first course. My companion's Buffalo mozzarella with pear and truffle honey was equally toothsome. Having never had Lamb Wellington before, we both chose it and were very glad we had, because it was a very tender piece of meat encased in onion puree and golden pastry and served with soft and creamy mashed potato, irrigated in a pool of rosemary jus, making it a really excellent dish. Desserts of Coffee cremeux with prunes and milk ice cream, and Coconut rice pudding with pineapple brought a delightfully memorable meal to a fine close. I think more frequent visits to Orrery will certainly be on the cards.
Be the first to ReplyFar too expensive for the quality of the food
The Orrery is centrally located and very pleasant on the first floor of a buiding on Marylebone High Street. Inside it's nicely appointed. The waiters were very effusive and helpful. But, we paid £410.47, slightly more than £100.00 per person for a meal that was for half the diners, little more than indifferent. We had only one bottle of wine and two brandies after the meal, which accounts for £97.00 of the cost. One expects an enormous ramp on the alcohol cost. But the food was simply not good enough to merit the overall cost.
Be the first to ReplyA very average experience
We have been to other D&D restaurants which have been much much better e.g Launceston Place. The food was very very average, quite bland and flat. The bread and butter was the best bit. Also the service was very average at best. From telling us to hurry up ordering as we were the last sitting to not having any spoon on the table once our deserts arrived. It’s a lovely location but please don’t book it for a special occasion as you will be dissatisfied.
Be the first to ReplyNear, but not near enough.
I had booked a five course tasting menu with wine for my wife's birthday. The restaurant was very pleasant . We ordered an aperitif, a martini and a sherry. My wife's drink arrived promptly mine arrived 10 minutes later. The amuse bouche and the first course were excellent but the fish course was part served by someone who appeared to be a member of the kitchen staff and the Maitre'd. The next two courses were fine but the dessert left a little to be desired. It's usually an opportunity for someone to show off with the dessert but a round of panne cotta, tinned mandarins and sorbet is hardly knocking themselves out. Nobody asked if we wanted coffee or further drinks. When I asked for the bill I explained about my wife's birthday and was met with little more than a shrug of the shoulders. All the ingredients are there for a fine restaurant but all the little things matter just as much.
Be the first to ReplyA lovely NYE dinner
We have been loyal customers of Orrery for a long time and they never disappoint us. This year's new year's eve menu was a delight, the service was amazing (special thanks to sommelier Julio, who was informative and entertaining), and of course the food was fabulous. It is not inexpensive, but we consider this good value for special occassions. We look forward to returning soon.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely incredible
Wow what an amazing experience. The food is fantastic and the service brilliant. Highly recommend. Suited in a lovely area only a short walk from the metro.
Be the first to ReplyLovely Dinner - highly recommended
Enjoyed a lovely dinner on Sunday; when lots of the similar grade London restaurants are closed. An excellent blend of service, quality and value. The food & restaurant was a nice balance between modern and classic; highly recommended
Be the first to ReplyThe best of Marylebone.
We eat here at least once a week. Excellent chef unchanged for many years. Beautiful environment particularly in the summer with the terrace. Narrow menu which changes infrequently. Set meal is great value at lunch and good value in the evening. Avoid the £15 supplements. . Particular thanks to the team Ishmael Julio Tom Ellie and the reception ladies. Booking is somewhat unreliable except directly with the restaurant. Well done.
Be the first to ReplySuperb birthday treat - Faultless!!!
I have wanted to try The Orrery for years. Why it has taken me so long, I don't know - it was well worth the wait though. Luckily able to sit out on the terrace in the early evening sun, sipping the sparkling wine, eating the delicious sourdough bread and gazpacho and amuse bouche was delightful. The salmon carpaccio, burrata, rump lamb, salmon fillet were all absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection followed by a superb chocolate dessert and peach with sorbet delicious - faultless as was the service - attentive without being obtrusive. The icing on the cake was the sweet touch of a birthday plate with chocolates for my birthday boy.
Be the first to ReplyNice but nothing to get excited about
The terrace is lovely but the food was just average. There was nothing exciting our fresh. Overall this place needs to be revamped. As for the staff, some are lovely and others need to understand that customers can feel your energy of being rushed or disinterested. Lacks soul and depth in general
Be the first to ReplyLovely French restaurant on Marylebone High Street serving very nice food
Friendly staff and lovely relaxing atmosphere in converted former stables. Can recommend the salmon fillet which was deliciously tender! Well worth a visit and situated opposite Marylebone church and over the Conran shop
