I placed an order for pickup at 6pm over a week in advance, but ended up waiting for almost an hour. I arrived precisely at 6pm and one of the chefs asked for my name and informed me that my order would be ready in 10 minutes. No problem.Fast forward -- it's now 6:35pm and the kitchen is filling orders with 6:30 pickup times and even walk-in orders before finishing mine. I am asked again what order I'm waiting for and I repeat myself, explaining that my pickup time was at 6pm. I'm told to wait another 5-10 minutes. I get that the kitchen was backed up, but this was extremely poor operational management. Moreover, I could see that other patrons were similarly disgruntled. Finally, around 6:55pm, the chef that originally greeted me asks to clarify again what my order name is. I confirm for the third time now and the chef takes a bag out of the fridge (I still don't know if that means my order had just been sitting there and I waited longer unnecessarily). To top it all off, not a single apology from anyone on staff. The only reason this is a 2-star review rather than a 1-star is that the fish is reasonably good quality. Regardless, it is NOT worth the hassle.

I ordered sushi and sashimi here for my Japanese friend's birthday. The fish was excellent and much of it is shipped directly from Tokyo. It's definitely a splurge but very much worth it for special occasions. I really enjoyed the otoro (fatty tuna) and chutoro as well as the salmon. The fish was so fresh it melted in my mouth. The service was friendly when picking up and it is easy to order on their website. Just be cognizant of the hours and days that Osakana is open.

Tried a Chirashi bowl here which had some tuna (akami & chuturo), mackarel, salmon, and yellowtail). While the price was awesome (only $13), the fish did not taste fresh and some of the pieces were a bit stringy and hard to chew. I also bit into a couple bones while eating which was totally unexpected & made things even worse :(
Be the first to ReplyThis was such a hidden gem.
My friend and I was walking by and decided to stop by. There isn't indoor dining unless you sign up for a tasting or class, but the sushi boxes are the way to go if you want high quality sushi for just ~40$. It was also nicely wrapped and the presentation was on pointe. Would totally come here so often if I lived closer!

Please avoid at all cost!!! Spent $300 on my godmothers 71st birthday and got the worst otoro of my life. When I called, the person told me I'm not the only one and it's not their fault. I appreciate those of us that spoke up. I though do not appreciate the attitude of 'it's not our fault, it's the way the tuna was killed!' response. Rest assured I will not come back even though the first two times were great. Your attitude sucks and My money deserves better!!!!

5 hrs round trip to try this place and it was 100% worth it. totaled about $110 for:Chirashi standard: 4.5/5 probably highest quality chirashi I've tried, they included pieces of toro in it!! also the presentation is super cuteMaine sea urchin: 5/5 sooo fresh, sweet and creamy - doesn't need any sauce or wasabi, just eat it straight and taste the ocean in your mouth .25 lb chutoro: 4.5/5 super fresh, only not a perfect 5/5 because it got outshined by the toro.25 lb toro: 5/5 melt in your mouth, wanted to order the otoro but it was already sold out mid day, but opting for toro is a great choice and imo fatty enough as it is .25 lb yellowtail: 4/5 nothing special, just wanted something other than tuna and it did provide a nice contrast .25 lb scallop: 10000/5 holy moly my only regret was not ordering a full pound of this. huge scallops that are fresh, tender, and SWEET Will definitely be returning to try out some other rice bowls and definitely for the uni and scallops ~

It's true what they say - you eat with your eyes first, and Osakana delivers!!! Their sushi/sashimi plates to go are breathtakingly beautiful and also fresh, melt in your mouth delicious.I didn't take actual photos but I posted stories to Instagram and here are the screenshots. We got the sashimi deluxe, otoro bento, and sushi first class. Gorgeous. The photos say it all. My only complaint is it didn't come with some kind of guide to tell me which fish I was eating, but because I eat sushi a lot I had a general idea. The roe and the mackerel really stood out to me. And the uni. AND THE SCALLOP!!! My partner was able to order this meal through work, so luckily we didn't have to pay for it, but I would splurge every so often to get as a special treat. We had a lot of leftovers with what we got, so could probably do less next time and still be full. And the sashimi was just fine the next day.

It pains me to write a negative review about this place but I hope it can push them to re think their priorities. I currently live between Japan and the US and have been shopping at Osakana since they opened and always being able to see cuts when I'm selecting, which up until now it seemed they were fine with....cue post pandemic shopping and Yuji appears to be there less (his brand has grown into multiple locations) and under current management the shop has definitely declined. My last visit was a disaster. I was discouraged from asking about specific fish that day and encouraged to "get the deluxe sashimi" which is boring for me as I cook at home and had a much larger meal plan that involved fish for different dishes (I can be a fish snob, full disclosure) ...I would have spent more money there than the "deluxe" but actually walked with nothing and sort of decided to shop elsewhere from now on - I don't mind making the trek to Chelsea market for the best quality fish. The staff were dismissive (it was empty), bossy, and honestly just a bummer...frankly, without Yuji, this place sort of flounders and has become more like a sushi takeout counter than a fish store (my understanding is that this is a place to buy fish, as in a fresh fish store not sushi counter). Customer Service is one of the reasons everyone loves Japan...so it is particularly depressing when a japanese owned shop treats it's customers poorly.
Be the first to ReplyIt was great to get to splurge from Osakana.
We ordered ย Sushi - Tokyo Market Premium set - 12pc ($60) and Sashimi - Tokyo Market Premium set ($90), and wasn't disappointed at all! We ordered to pickup and they were packed in such elegant packages. At first we thought it was a lot of food for two people, but we managed to finish the two sets. For some reason, my order didn't include pickled ginger. Was that how it's supposed to be? Nevertheless, I will definitely order from Osakana again.

Incredible quality for sushi delivery, I was completely impressed with the Omakase sashimi standard was sheer perfection, every slice of raw fish, more delicious than the last. I also loveedddd the uni (Maine), it was decadent, rich and I devoured the sushi rice along with the pickled ginger. While ordering for delivery does take some advance planning, it is definitely a treat to order it from Osakana. I cannot wait to sample more of their incredible menu.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing quality and great price.
Whenever anyone asks me where to go for sushi this is my new answer. I wish I had found this place sooner before going to many places that were more expensive and lower quality.

Fresh fish at low prices along with incredibly helpful service--take ALL my stars! I'm really shocked by the 1-star reviews claiming bad service as we had the absolute opposite experience. My friend and I ordered sashimi here for takeout to make our own chirashi bowls at home. You can either order online or through the phone, but it seems like they stop taking same-day online orders at a certain time: we tried to place an order around 2pm but the earliest window was the following day. We called as a last resort and thankfully they were accepting orders. The person we talked to on the phone was very patient and helpful. We weren't expecting to be able to actually order so after naming a few items we were admittedly floundering (no pun intended) on what else to get. He was nice enough to take down what we had so far and have us call him back later to finish the order. We also initially ordered a sashimi omakase along with different quarter pound cuts of fish, but he advised us against it saying it would be cheaper and the same thing if we bought another quarter pound and had everything sliced. I really appreciated his candor and putting customer service over profit--that alone makes me want to return. We got 4 botan ebi (sweet prawns), 1/4 lb bluefin toro, 1/4 lb hamachi, and 1/2 lb salmon. Every item was incredibly good, but the highlight for me was the hamachi. I usually don't care for it too much but it really stood out to me here. I was also surprised by how prominent the sweetness was in the botan ebi. Will be back for sure!
Be the first to ReplyThey have opened a store on St Marks St in the East Village.
ย I called to find out if they were selling any wild fish. ย The person that answered checked and said the Branzino was wild at $45 lb. ย I went over to purchase it and found that he lied - it was farm raised. ย Do not trust this place. ย No for sure what you are buying.
Be the first to ReplyThis is my new favorite place to get chirashi bowls.
This restaurant is also a seafood market that sells sushi grade seafood and they even have sushi classes.
Be the first to ReplyVery bad customer service, the manager here is very rude
Very bad customer service, the manager here is very rude when speaking to. Very unprofessional, did not mention the sashimi doesnt even get cut for you. How do you eat .5 lb of fish without getting cut?And when asked for them to cut which takes a few mins, they responded they need to close shop. Stay away the fish isn't that great either.
Be the first to ReplyReally bad customer service, doesn't even cut your fish.
The manager is rude when asking to cut the fish in slices. The fish here isn't good either
Be the first to ReplyWe were very pleased w the fish we picked up and had more
We were very pleased w the fish we picked up and had more than enough to eat for the two of us! It was nice to be able to bring it home and torch it ourselves since it's so hard to get any counter dining these days! ย The Maine uni wqs good too but Santa Barbara still reigns!
