Did not meet expectations.
Very disappointing food. We had high expectations which were not met. Raviolo was served with burnt butter sauce, actually black. Cioppino came without broth, just a few scallops, mussels and a piece of fish placed on a scoop of tomato sauce. This was not cioppino. The rabbit was overcooked. Tiramisu was sodden and inedible. I will not go back and suggedt a revamp in the kitchen. Service however was very good.

A perfect place with perfect food perfect service perfect ambience. Food was exceptionally good without any doubt but what makes it special is the service particularly Caitlin was super. Not just good suggestions but also kept the process in good pace. We didnโt wait for long in between meals even also the restaurant being busy. What was also surprising was the price levelโฆvery decent for a Michelin star restaurant. Only wish if there were more option of wine by glassโฆ
Be the first to ReplyExceptional Italian Experience!
After having experienced exceptional Italian service and food, I've tried to find similar places here in the US. Those places are rare here. Restaurants with staff and management dedicated to making sure you have not only the best food but best experience is an absolute joy! Add to that a menu that covers pretty much everyone's preferences and food made to delight your senses is the best!

Ciopinno was salty and broth tasted stale. Fish was rubbery as if precooked and reheated when served.

If youโre a fine dining person - In other words you actively enjoy the experience provided by highly ranked restaurants - then youโll love Osteria Mozza. Owned and operated by one of the worldโs renowned pastry and bread chefs, Nancy Silvertonโs style, and talent are immediately apparent upon entering OM. Go for the food and the service, and walk away with a little tighter waistband, and a little lighter wallet.

Went to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary and my husbands 60th birthday. The staff were amazing and so attentive, couldnโt do enough for us. And the food was absolutely delicious. Definitely worth a visit.

I enjoyed dinner here as an invited guest with friends, so I had no expectations. I was completely blown away by the service and the food! The tortellini was absolutely delicious!
Be the first to ReplySuperb restaurant worth a stop with a mozzarella course
Very good restaurant. Food was amazing, with great dishes in each course. Notably, the steak, corn pasta, and pepper mozzarella were superb. The service was very good and prompt. Waiters were fun and quick to help. Food came out at a reasonable pace as well. The atmosphere is great as well. The decor is dark, but with high ceilings, feels classy and not at all claustrophobic. Definitely worth a visit.

Great service, exceptional food, fun vibe! Started with Nancyโs Favorite Trio for the table. The bread was unbelievable and burrata was superb. Antipastis: Nancyโs caesar (fun take, Caesar components were served on toasted bread with the lettuce on the side) - very tasty Octopus (soft, well seasoned, served Italian style with potatoes) Endive and Fennel salad - tasty and fresh Primi Ordered 2 Oxtail Tagliatelle (superb, the pasta was sooo thin and the oxtail was tender and not over cooked) The ricotta and egg raviolo was stellar. Brown butter sauce on point, and it was cooked perfectly. Mains: Grilled branzino- flavorful, fresh, well cooked Duck confit - probably one of the best duck confits Iโve ever had. The skin was perfection and it was so tender. And the portion was huge! Pork loin - flavorful perfection Wagyu beef - superb Dessert (we barely had room) Olive cakes (must try) - flavorful, fresh, light! Bombolini - lemon curd was pretty good! Sommelier helped pick a nice bottle of Italian red blend (they only carry Italian wines) Charity, our server - was awesome and very informative and helpful. Overall service deserving of LA Michelin star cachet.

Been going to this restaurant for years and consistency is the name of the game. The owner Nancy Silverman is frequently there and sheโs a delight. Sit at the kitchen bar for a true treat. Really excellent Italian food.
Be the first to ReplyPoor Service
We had made birthday dinner reservations at this restaurant. It was our first visit. The hostess took us to the furthest out table next to the service door when there were plenty of tables in the main dining area. We requested a different table, and they accommodated us. Waiter started off as attentive and friendly. Appetizers, pasta, and wine were good and timely. Then we waited and waited and waited for our main course. Waiter never came to check on us as to why we hadn't received our main course. Finally, after over 30min we received our food and my husband's steak was cold. Bus boy called a manager who proceeded to tell my husband they serve the steak at room temperature??? My husband returned his steak. We had half of two main dishes left. Another manager came by and with a very rude tone said "can we clear this" I pointed to the two main dishes and asked to have them boxed. When we arrived home noticed only one dish had been boxed. I called and requested for a message to be sent to the manager to call me, explaining our experience to the reservation lady. It's been two weeks and no one bothered to call. Won't be going back.

We had high expectations but were sorely disappointed. Arriving a bit earlier than the other couple they donโt seat you so you have to mill around the bar until everybody arrives. Not very hospitable. Starting with the drink, my Martini was very watery. The food: ordered the burrata with leeks. Had to send it back, the leeks were so stringy I could have choked. Chose a different burrata dish. Overly sweet on account of the Balsamico reduction. A 2 out of 5 dish. The pasta Bolognese was good but nothing to write home about. The size of the portion an insult. Not even kids portion comes to mind. From a value point of view a total rip off. The dessert and also the selection mediocre. My wife had a ravioli with butter and sage. Again barely ok. and therefore the insulting small portion almost a blessing. Gave her a nice heartburn too. Tried the pasta of our friend. Terribly sweet, not a winner. The service I would describe as not bad but a bit awkward. The selection of the menu isnโt all that great. Too many Burrata dishes and three pastas with different meat sauces. Certainly wonโt be back.

A bad taste left for our 20th anniversary. This will be my first time writing a negative review for a restaurant. Generally I'm not interested in highlighting faults. But our experience left a sour memory for us on what was meant to be a nice meal out to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. When you see a restaurant like this on one of your favourite shows, Chef's Table, it sets a certain expectation. My wife and I met up in L.A. I had come from a work trip and she flew in from Vancouver, Canada. This is the one reservation we made for this trip. I will say that the meal started out well, they presented us with a card and glass of bubbly. Our server was kind and informed. The sommelier was friendly and suggested a great bottle of wine. The food did not disappoint. So why push us out of our table before we could even finish our last glass of wine? My wife and I were mid conversation on what had gone well and what we might have changed in the last 20 years of our life together. We were maybe half way through our pasta, forks in hand when a gentleman who hadn't spoken to us yet informed us that should we want to stay we'd need to move to the bar to make room for a large table they needed to set. it was jarring to be stopped mid meal and conversation. We were maybe 5-10 minutes from being finished. We didn't set the cadence for the food delivery and we weren't moving slowly. Just all of a sudden we no longer felt welcome or important to them. 'You'll have about five minutes' we were informed. I could see my beautiful wife holding back tears. They offered us a seat at the bar, which I'm sure felt like a fair trade for them , but for me and my wife... we didn't want to sit at the bar, we just needed a minute to be together, enjoy a glass of wine and some memories. Instead we felt rushed out. A thankless experience. By the end, knowing my wife was upset, they tried to apologize with words but with no action. I finally had to ask for us to be left alone. We were almost finished our meal, would have paid and left with a great memory. Instead it felt like we were rushed to the door. Standing outside waiting for our ride, encouraging my wife not to let this ruin her evening, we noticed that the party of eight hadn't even arrived to fill the table they so desperately needed from us. My God, if you can train a team to produce such good food, train them with a little empathy and manners, and the ability to better problem solve for these occurrences in the future. There were many tables open that evening, why stick us at the one you knew you needed before we had even arrived??? At some point we may laugh about this, for now I'll try to make it up by visiting a different restaurant to redo our anniversary. It just makes me sad, disappointed.

Waiter started out curt, moved to condescending and finished at rude. Initial apps were fine (not great), the pastas were terrible, oversalted and undercooked, our duck was ok till you pulled the tiny bones out of your teeth, and we might still be chewing on the NY Strip. Oh and hurry up so we can get the next fools to sit at your table
Be the first to ReplyGreat Italian food with a good ambiance
Enjoyed the food, the ambiance, and the service was excellent. We ordered traditional pasta dishes and all were excellent. The service was great and was able to give good recommendations as well. Would go again if I lived in the area.

Me and my daughter had dinner at Osteria Mozza in July. We loved every second of our evening. Personnel was very nice, caring and sophisticated. We enjoyed our meal very much, mostly the mozzarella tasting! Amazing! We will be back!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Taste of Italy
Reading Great reviews on TripAdvisor - I made a reservation. Traveling from Chicago, we know delicious tasting Italian Dishes. If you are in LosAngeles, this is a must stop to delicious Italian Cuisine. Greeted by Luigi, our server with a smile & authentic Italian accent, made you feel welcomed. The Margarita Pizza, delicious, Homemade Gnocchi, mouth watering melt in your mouth - outstanding. Lasagna Bolognese, so darn good. We had to stuff ourselves with Cappuccino & Tiramisu, heavenly!! So many selections, wine bar, welcoming atmosphere - all put together by Filippo Cortivo, the owner.

Nancy must is busy with other restaurants, as this place has been left on autopilot. Set it, and forget. The food was not exceptional like it used to be, and the staff definitely needs training. Hope this place shapes up or we can watch a fading Michelin star.
Be the first to ReplyToo salty and mediocre
Just look at all the reviews that mention the food is too salty. Whatever isnโt too salty to be edible is mediocre at best. The rest is inedible because the saltiness burns your tongue.

This is a follow up to my 5 star review two years ago. We enjoyed our evening at Osteria Mozza but there were some issues on this visit that, in all fairness, need to be addressed. The restaurant opens at 5:30, so when we arrived at 5:10, we dropped into Pizzeria Mozza next door whose wine bar was open. We enjoyed two nice glasses and actually were able to bring them to Osteria at 5:30 when it opened.
They gave us a very nice table in the private dining room. Our server John was very nice. We first ordered the kale salad with toasted garbanzo beans and roasted pine nuts which was excellent. The peach and buratta was also very tasty. We ordered the egg yolk and ricotta ravioli which was also as we remembered it two years ago.
The orchietta with sausage came out, and the pasta was cooked nicely al dente, but the sausage ragu was very salty. We let this slide. Then came the duck confit which many friends have told us was great. However, ours was sooo salty it actually hurt our tastebuds as we ate it. Two overly salted dishes are unacceptable for such a fine restaurant. By right, we should have sent it back. However we were so exhausted from the long day, we just called it a night. No dessert or after dinner drinks.
I present this as constructive criticism because of the restaurantโs reputation and a prior superb meal. But Oversalting does not sit well with us.
Pretty average food actually
lots of salt and olive oil on everything - that was my experience - added to irritated host and lack of covid 19 protocols - ok the staff were masked but the tables were just as close together as always - surprised as i'd read article about owner nancy silverton having recovered from covid and being covid aware. surprise - guess pandemic is all over at this restaurant. main thing was food was not at all anything special except for high prices.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Food and Service
On a recent business trip, after having seen Nancy and the restaurant on Netflix, I enjoyed a meal at Osteria Mozza. The food and service were excellent and I will be happy to return during my next trip to LA.
I wanted to eat at the Mozzerella Bar, but was told that it was still closed and the only available seating would be on the patio. The appearance of the primary dining room was wonderful, and while essentially empty at 6:00pm, it was off to the patio for dinner. The patio is not nearly as nice as the dining room, with unfinished painted plywood walls and chairs that looked like they came from a local middle school. Fortunately, the food made up for the less than adequate patio dining area.
The Negroni was marvelous and the best I have ever had. My starter was the Mozzerella de Bufala and Condimenti, which was very good, especially with the Caperberry Relish. The relish was something that I have never tasted before, but it was outstanding and I already have the recipe.
Second course was the Angelotti, which was pureed meats in a light butter sauce, also very good. Instead of actual dessert, I finished with the Fonduta Ravioli with 25 year old Balsamic Vinegar. This was excellent and the balsamic was a great contrast to the rich ravioli and butter sauce.
The gentleman who served me was friendly and professional, with just the right amount of attention.
I will be happy to go back and enjoy dinner again, but next time inside the restaurant at the Mozzerella Bar.
AN IMPERFECTLY FINE MEAL
Osteria Mozza is a fine restaurant. First and foremost it is not too noisy to have a conversation which makes it a valuable outlier in LA, hell in America! The wine list is appropriately varied and one is able to find some interesting bottles at quite reasonable prices (although $24 for a Manhattan did seem offensive.) The room is elegantly dark and brilliantly lit with tables that are still Covid distances (Oh if they would only stay that way.)
But in the end it must all be about the food: The Fett'unta, is the garlic bread of your dreams. The Burrata Bacon and Burrata Asparagus were both far more interestingly complex and delicious than the menu suggests. The old stand by (we have been three times now) The Raviolo in browned butter is absolutely mandatory for someone at the table and the Cacio e Pepe was appropriately forte but in the American style of Cacio e Pepe and not the Roman style which has much more vigor and substance. The (fully boned) whole grilled Orata promised to be a very hard to find treat outside of the Veneto but instead of simply grilling it with lemon and olive oil and some parsley they stuffed it (not indicated on the menu or from the waiter) with lots of overpowering greens and and ? I left half of it. Then there was the Grilled Beef Tagliata at $42 which really was an enormous pile of lettuce and then only three tiny, silver dollar size slices of beef which were drowned in soy sauce or something that completely overpowered and masked the beef. Avoid this. The Qual was excellent as was the Semifredo (really a Fantasia not just a semi-freddo) and the Torta della Nonna which really did taste like somebody's Italian grandmothers recipe. Excellent.
So,
Mozzarella appetizers A
Pasta A-
Secondi D, C- and A
Dolci A+
Not bad.
But after adding a generous tip the bill came to $660 which was expected, $110pp.....but at the very end one of my guests asked for a double espresso while our regular waiter was preparing the bill, which did not include that one coffee. We left contented, without thinking about it, until our waiter charged outside with a $7 bill for the espresso and rather too brusquely demanded of my guests.."who was going to pay for this" as they were standing outside at the front door surrounded by strangers. (I was getting the car.)
THIS WAS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF HOW TO NEEDLESSLY RUIN A LOVELY EVENING AND IT HAS BECOME THE PUNCH LINE OF SEVERAL OF OUR RECITATIONS WHEN ASKED...'HOW WAS MOZZA THESE DAYS'. Management needs to take a firmer hand on details like this.
Very very good!
This restaurant lives up to the hype. I would argue most LA italian food is overrated but this place delivers.

the restaurant is beautiful as well as the food and a great wine selection. the food is well presented as you would expect in any fine dinning restaurant. taste was good and there were some unique flavors with unusual ingredients. favorite dish was the quail and least favorite were the mussels.
