This was my first fancy Michelin experience, and it was a meal I'll never forget! Came here to celebrate my birthday and was left speechless after some of the courses. The staff were accommodating to a T. The music was great, the vibe was great. The staff were extremely poised and knowledgeable. A fantastic experience as a vegetarian. They do things with vegetables I didn't know were possible.

I really enjoyed this place! The service staff were some of the best I've ever encountered and I really enjoy the detailed explanations of each dish. I opted for the all Vegan experience and I didn't feel as if I was losing out with the few adjustments they made to a few dishes. Oddly enough one of my favorite dishes was this side of beans with Vegan cheese, I'm not sure I've ever had beans cooked with that much flavor. I appreciate that they had a non alcoholic drink pairing, it really added to the experience. I'm not a huge mushroom fan, but I was seriously blown away by the main dish at the end. The mushroom was so much like steak in taste and texture, I'd say it's probably the closest I've seen anyone come to nailing the "meat substitute".

The food was delicious to be sure, but also throughly inventive and appealing to the senses in every way. One has hardly ever described vegetables as star ingredients and savored every bite and delighted in the different textures and essences but here you do and it's an experience. You will taste carrots in a new way, you will delight in beet mousse (like a fancy ice cream, even, but as a savory dish), and the delightful corn two ways in the dessert with a wonderful ice cream. The absolute star of course is the lions mane mushroom - hearty, sumptuous. It would go back to have that entree alone. Service was impeccable, and what you'd absolutely expect from a restaurant that has a Michelin star. All the dishes and wine /zero proof pairings were explained so that you had a complete sense of what you're eating. The pairings absolutely brought out the taste of the veg. It was also excellent to know what the sourcing of the main ingredients were (well done, Blue Star farms). Well-lit, well-appointed, albeit small inside, but it's nice to have a viewpoint into the kitchen and see the sheds assembling dishes. It deserves its Michelin star.
Be the first to ReplyIt was absolutely scrumptious and worth every penny.
I'm not vegetarian and thought I'd miss the meat, but nope! Also, it's adorable inside and all the staff were so sweet.

We came here for our anniversary and absolutely loved it! Many small courses with knowledgeable and kind staff who described in detail every ingredient in every course. We're doing dry January, so opted out of the wine pairing, but we will likely come back again and include the wine. Our server brought us a zero proof sparkling rose at the end of our meal and pretty much every staff member wished us a happy anniversary throughout the evening. We really appreciated the attention to detail. I loved that most ingredients were plant-based and locally sourced. It made me feel good about the food we were consuming. I also love that they seem to update their menu based on the season, and if we do return it will be in a different season to have that new experience. The stand-outs for us were the dried celery root, the pecan mousse at the bottom of the winter salad, the beet bread & butter, the heirloom beans (truly the best beans I have ever had), and the lions mane mushrooms. I also love that they gave us a printed menu at the end that included every course. I loved this experience and though it was pricey, will probably be back again!

While the food was great, we were charged for an additional tip we did not authorize (there is a 22% fee added, which we felt to be sufficient). After contacting the restaurant, their response was to "refund" the unauthorized charge. Incredibly disappointing for such an acclaimed restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is fine.
I think the Michelin star gets hopes up. For someone who eats a lot of vegetarian food, nothing was all that new or exciting, unfortunately. There was literally 1 oyster in 1 dish the entire night. Just seemed like more of a gimmick than anything else. A play on words, and just unnecessary. Service was top notch. No complaints there. The place is small, and I will assume that is what makes it so hard to get a table. Large windows, so you can watch everyone walk by, which was ok, not great. Glad I came to mark it off the DC Michelin list, but I don't feel the need to come back. The prices just didn't justify the food or experience.
Be the first to ReplyLove this place! The marigold 'butter' is amazing.
The restaurant is quite small, and watching the staff move through it is like watching a choreographed dance. It's a nice place to go to for a special date night, like an anniversary or a birthday. If they are booked up (which is a regular occurrence), you can email them to get on a waitlist. Sometimes that works out.
Be the first to ReplyI visited Oyster Oyster for a special menu dinner.
The food, wine pairing, and service were all excellent. I also appreciate their mission to be more sustainable and locally sourced. Your menu might vary, but we got dishes like: - fried celery root nest - a small bite, excellently fried, very tasty - truffled potato - tasty although pretty typical potato - beets with smoked tomato - not a very strong beet flavor (this is a good thing), very strong tomato flavor, also had an oyster in it. Excellent - kohlrabi with mushroom ragout - also excellent - beet bread with "butter" - very good, also not a strong beet flavor - confit squash and stuffed cabbage - excellent - apple spice cake - very good, although pretty sweet if you don't have a sweet tooth. I enjoyed it, my companion did not finish hers. We also had very nice wine pairings and service. Definite recommend.

Oyster Oyster was DIVINE! The menu was as innovative as it was delicious! I took a friend for her birthday, and she said that it was "the best meal I've ever had in my life!" She's not wrong, but it was so much more than just the meal-- the staff was attentive and made sure my friend felt extra special on her birthday (& they even made sure I felt special too)! The wines w/ which they paired each course were distinctive & complimented the meal perfectly. Although I'm not a vegetarian, I didn't feel that I was missing out at all; I enjoyed every morsel! I cannot recommend a Oyster Oyster highly enough.

Wow, so deserving of that Michelin star!!I had high expectations going into oyster oyster for my husbands birthday dinner, and I'd say it even exceeded them. We are what I may call flexitarians, but if veg food was always this delicious it would make it easy to not eat meat. From start to finish, the courses were incredibly flavorful. My favorite was definitely the oyster, but my mouth is watering just thinking of the entire experience. We decided to splurge with the wine pairing, and if you can swing it I would highly recommend. Those were some of the best natural wines we've tried, and we're pretty big on natural wines. So worthwhile, very generous pours, and really elevated our experience. If you read profiles on chef Rob, it gives you further appreciation of how sustainability is a core tenant in everything this restaurant stands for. Kudos to a team that takes every detail into account so thoughtfully.
Be the first to ReplyThis is an experience.
I loved every moment of it. I felt like I was anywhere but in DC. Do the wine pairing. Every dish on the menu was thoughtful; every drink paired perfectly. This is what creative plant-based food looks like.

Won't get into the menu too much because it rotates but I'll say I've never been a huge veggie guy, and the thought of a meal without meat was questionable but I didn't miss it at all and throughly enjoyed the whole meal. Favorite was probably the mushroom ragout, the bread and "butter" was also a high point as well as the desserts but on the whole the meal was super consistent. Would recommend to anyone looking for a veggie meal or just something different
Be the first to ReplyDelicious, intimate, and so enjoyable.
The ambiance is trendy yet cozy, and the staff are all so kind. I especially loved the explanations of the various wines paired with each course of our meal. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but this places tops my personal charts.

It's hard to say exactly where this restaurant falls on my favorites list but it's easily top 5, if not top 3. My middle name might as well be "meat" but I did not miss the meat in this meal one bit. Everything was perfect. The dishes all had excellent flavors and textures but my favorites were the celeriac, the salad with oyster, and the custard. I was also pleasantly full after the meal which I was a little unsure of going into it. We also got the wine pairing which was 5 or 6 glasses and was probably my favorite beverage pairing from any restaurant. There were some very unique wines you won't find anywhere else, and as they poured it they told you about the flavors, growing environment, and the winery. My only complaint is they don't have a phone number on their website or anywhere else. I definitely want to come back and try the other seasons' menus!

I was very pleasantly surprised by this establishment; I realize it can be quite hard getting a Michelin star from serving mainly vegetarian food. However, the creative utilization of umami from mushrooms and textural contrast, Oyster Oyster hits the nail on the head. Our menu consisted of the following: warming broth, crispy celeriac (smoked tofu, fines herbes), winter salad (crispy kale, turnips, kohlrabi, apple, Kent Island oyster, seaweed emulsion), mushroom ragout (grilled cabbage, heirloom beans, sauce of potato skins), badger flame beet bread (marigold butter), king oyster mushroom (black garlic, herbs, roasted carrot), steamed Hmong sticky rice (collard greens, honeynut squash), caramel oat & persimmon custard (sunchokes, pecans, nashi pear), and finally the shiitake chip cookie. The warming broth was absolutely packed with umami from the mushrooms that were utilized; this was a flavor packed way to start off the meal. They crispy celeriac served as a light, crispy, and crunchy way to tantalize the palate for the most substantial courses to come. The winter salad was the only course that offered a form of animal protein that featured a Kent Island oyster that was carefully nestled in a nest of constructed layered salad. All the components of the salad provided for a texturally diverse eating experience. What stood out in particular were the crispiness of the fried kale and the cool bite of the thin apple slices that worked in conjunction with the oyster. The mushroom ragout was a standout as well; it was intensely flavored and had an aggressive amount of umami and salinity that worked well when eating it with the provided bread which was based off of badger flame beet. It had a crispy exterior while having a golden pillowy interior; a very delicious and expertly executed bread. Next, came a very aesthetically pleasing medley of deep fried king oyster mushroom and roasted carrot on top of a sweeter black garlic spread. The Hmong sticky rice served as a complimentary base for the components of the king oyster mushroom dish and was quite savory and delicious without being too mushy or overdone. Finally, the dessert of caramel oat & persimmon custard was a unique way to finish off the night; velvety and gelatinous but not too sweet. The crispy sunchokes and pecans provided a much needed textural contrast to the custard. The shiitake chip cookie was unique and granular; kind of like a fiber health treat. If you want a wholly different experience devoid of meat but not skimping on umami packed flavor, come to Oyster Oyster.
Be the first to ReplyI have anticipated oyster oyster for a bit now.
Reservations were quite difficult. Overall loved the environment, food was BEAUTIFULLY prepared, delicious, and the wine pairing was lovely. Service was casual and comfortable. Zero complaints. It was a really great trendy spot for date night! Minus one star because at the end of the meal, it just wasn't enough food. And yes, I have a normal BMI with a really good appetite . 100% worth checking out especially if you like a vegetarian menu!
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyed dinner here while in DC.
It is a prepay/price fix venue. The atmosphere is nice- it's small and you are near the open kitchen- a cool concept especially for the foodie. The service was nice and professional- not quite as personal as I like but very efficient. It is strictly vegetarian and locally sourced.Everything was very good with great flavor- dinner was pleasant and even though the portions are on the small side, you leave satisfied.
Be the first to ReplyIn a word, forgettable.
To be fair, wine list had a number of interesting choices at all price points. Service was perfunctory. Frankly, the only 2 dishes we both remembered were the mushroom broth (though served luke warm), and the bread and "butter" service. The rest has escaped us. The balance of the $300 (total tab) meal which had us in/out of the place in 1 hour and 10 minites, was reminiscent of side dishes found at a Thanksgiving turkey dinner. Seriously...lots of root vegetables and way too many other ingredients on each plate. There was a complete lack of clarity or focus in each dish presented. Nothing was bad, but we really had no positive memory of the culinary experience other than the 2 aforementioned dishes. Dessert had some kind of dried out spice cake embellished with more...root vegetables. Finally, the space is akin to a nondescript breakfast room in a Hampton Inn. Not quite sure what the Michelin inspector was thinking, as i believe the restaurant has a star. Regretfully, the effort was too ambitious compared to the desired result. I would not recommend.

... DIVINE! I had been wanting to try the infamous Oyster Oyster since I first heard of them last year but could never find a date that worked with my schedule. On a whim, I checked Resy and snagged one of the few Saturdays I could find. I AM SO glad I did!The whole dinner experience was so lovely. The restaurant is smaller in scale but that allows for every member of the staff, including the chefs, to interact with each table. Perfect spot for an intimate dinner! Every course was brought to us by a different staff member, whether it be our server or a chef, where they then described to us the dish and where the ingredients were sourced from. Did you know that you can find rice growing on the Eastern Shore? I didn't, but Oyster Oyster sure did! The menu was primarily vegetarian, with the exception of oysters, and it offered something that tasted both familiar and complex. We finished each course excited for the next and giddy over what we had just tasted. The gluten free options for myself and vegan options for my other guests never left us feeling like we were missing out on the original dish, as the chefs made the replacements so unique in their own way. I was a little bummed beforehand about missing the bread course but to my surprise I was presented with the most delicious gluten free free bread (that I did not have to share with my other guests). I did ask our server if they could send me home with a loaf but unfortunately that was not possible. I would go back for the gluten free bread alone. Our dinner was so delicious, the service staff was so kind and lovely, and I truly cannot wait to go back. Highly recommend!!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing! The Michelin star they just got is well deserved.
My sister took me here for my birthday and it was an amazing experience. Every dish had beautiful flavors and immaculate presentation. The earthy palate really let the taste of vegetables shine through. The waitstaff was exceptionally courteous as they guide you through the fixed menu. If you're hoping to have a memorable meal to celebrate special occasion, please go here. You won't regret it!

I have been to a bunch of Michelin starred restaurants but this was my first Michelin starred vegetarian experience. What can I say, I was blown away. Oyster Oyster is now a top 5 restaurant for me. The tasting menu contained dishes that were unique and delicious. As someone who has been a huge carnivore most of my life, the food here honestly did not make me miss meat. I would GLADLY be fully vegetarian if I could eat like this everyday. The crispy celeriac, onion bread/marigold butter, and graffiti eggplant were the highlights for me. Love this place and will be back for damn sure.

If veggies tasted this good all the time, I'd have no problem being vegetarian. Every dish had an incredible balance of flavor and they transformed veggies in such an innovative way. I swear--there were a couple of times where the texture and umami flavor made me think I was eating duck liver pate, not whipped marigolds or tofu! The dishes are surprisingly filling, and by the time I got to the eggplant course I knew I had to pack it so I had room for dessert. The restaurant didn't do plastic but they also don't have an alternative takeout box option, so they had to figure out how to wrap it in foil so I could safely take it home. I don't mind at all that they don't have boxes, but it did leave me feeling a little shy when I asked to take it home and it was clearly something they weren't used to doing All in all it was a great experience and I'm so looking forward to being back again when they switch up their menu!
Be the first to ReplyReally great service and wine pairings along with
Really great service and wine pairings along with explanation of each pairing. My favorites were the truffle oyster dish (a bivalve, not fungi) and the pea/peanut soup dish. The rest of main dishes were mostly great, but unfortunately, I had an allergic reaction to the zucchini/squash dish (with mushroom instead of pumpkin seed filling) despite having disclosed allergies prior to coming. They said that all pumpkin items were removed, so there may have been some cross-contamination, because my reaction was strong (or it may have been a bad mushroom). Aside from that, I can't think of any explanation. Sadly, I was unable to finish the tasting (couldn't physically eat any more due to not being able to swallow well and had to take a benadryl), so my experience was not the best. The rest of my party finished the tasting and enjoyed the remaining two courses. Overall, I think it's really important to be careful about allergies with these types of foods (that are so commonly allergy-related or reaction inducing). So if you have any severe nut/seed/other veggie-based allergies, be really sure that this is a place you want to try, even if you let them know in advance of your allergies. On a separate note, my father in law was dripped on multiple times by the air vent above our table, so that was also a bit off-putting. It's summer and it's hot, and the associate helping us rectified the situation when we notified her, but it was still unpleasant for my FIL to have his head dripped on.
