The extension branch of the very famous chai paani in
The extension branch of the very famous chai paani in Ashville is here in the heart of Atlanta in Decatur! I visited this place about 6 months ago and I must say Chai Paani (which literally translates to tea and water in English), is not the best thing here - Its the ambiance :) Here is my review of my visit of this famed location a) Ambiance 5/5: Great decor with outdoor seating. The outside looks like an Indian marriage hall with all the decorations. The inside reminds you of numerous roadside small diners when on a road trip across India. So in all, full marks for creating that nostalgic road diner vibe. b) Service 5/5: Even though the place was brimming with customers, the service was quick and we liked that everyone was helpful in explaining the food and suggesting things based on your liking and spice tolerance c) Food 4/5: I was a little disappointed just because of how hyped this place was. Overall, the taste was great but didn't have the wow factor which I had heard so much about. Here is the summary of the food we had 1. SPDP: Not as good as the Indian original but very close replica and great for people who want to try it here. As they say, there is an explosion of taste with every bite of this. 2. Bhel Puri: I like the bhel puri but although the quantity was huge, it came a little moist which is not what am used to. Also, the combination of flavors was a little underwhelming and was on a sweeter note. 3. Keema Pav: Although my wife wanted Vada pav, I insisted on this on the server's suggestion but we didn't like it. It was minced meat but I didn't like the flavor. 4. Pani Puri: The pain puri stall at the entrance is a great addition while you wait in line. 5) Chai and lime soda: Chai was great but there was only a couple of flavor available. Also, I really like the lime soda d) Value for Money 4.5/5: The prices are not too heavy on the pocket and you still get to experience Indian street food which is a bargain for me Overall, this is a great place to re-live the Indian vibe but some of the food taste feels a little modified for the American taste buds. I would definitely want to try this again. PS: 1) When I went, they did not take reservations and we had to wait about 35-40 minutes in line to get our names and get a place. So get ready to wait, especially on weekends 2) The parking is also limited so get ready to drive around for parking. 3) They have a large vegetarian selection Recommendations: The SPDP and pain puri were great The chai was good Overall, recommended!
Be the first to ReplyChai Pani is just delicious Indian food.
The butter chicken is incredible and has an amazing flavor and the naan is so good. The rice is a little bland but all the stuff on top helps with that. Definitely a place worth checking out for super delicious food. I can't wait to go back and try some other options. The parking lot is tiny and gets crowded fast and the wait can be long for takeout orders but I think it's worth it.

Always consistently great service and flavors! For drinks, I got The Pani which was a nice smooth, mild drink. My husband got the Blind Tiger which wasn't up our alley because the cherry flavor was too strong. Our friends got the mango lassi which was amazing. For entree, I got the mixed vegetable uttapam. Great flavor and soooo filling, so much food. I love it so much. Husband got butter chicken which was also delicious with the chapati instead of naan which was a great choice paired with the richness of the butter chicken since it's lighter. Best part of Chai Pani is how even if there's a wait, you can enjoy puri Pani and cocktails in the lobby. I love how there's something to tide you over at places that don't take reservations.
Be the first to ReplyRun don't walk to the Chai Pani lunch buffet! $15 + tip
Run don't walk to the Chai Pani lunch buffet! $15 + tip will get ya the most epic Indian food in Atlanta. It includes hot chai (yum!) for a drink and lots of vegetarian, some meat, and gluten free options on the line. They also have an option to get the buffet to go which I think is a few dollars less and you can stuff that box full of delicacies. We are obsessed with the fast casual concept from this group in Ponce City Market but NOTHING comes close to the bang for your buck that you get from this epic lunch buffet... just wish they had the SPDP. Truly the only negative part of this experience is the hellish parking lot which is abnormally tiny and awkward- so make sure to carpool or park on the side street.

I absolutely love this place so much! I never thought I liked Indian food until I came here. They have a lunch buffet so you're able to try a little bit of everything and man, let me tell you, it's all so incredibly good!! It's $15 for the buffet and most of the dishes are vegetarian! Everyone there is very sweet. They just recently redid their outdoor patio and it is gorgeous! Highly recommend!!

Food, ambience, drinks, and service are all 10s! Literally have been here 3 times in 2 weeks cuz I love it so much and food options my daughter loved for a picky eater

Gorgeous interior, amazing Indian inspired drinks, and classic Indian street food. There was about a 40 min wait when I went on a Friday evening, but we were encouraged to get a drink from the bar and order pani puri at the stand in the lobby! What a nice touch to make the wait more enjoyable, and it ended up only being about 20 mins. I always order samosa chaat for the table. I recommend splitting a few street food dishes or daal, the butter chicken is just okay.

We loved this Indian restaurant! Lots of gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan options. The matchstick okra fries are amazing! Light, crispy, seasoned, and delicious. This was my first time trying butter chicken, and I loved it! The parking area is small and fills up fast but there are parking options nearby. According to the website, Sharian Rugs, a couple doors down, allows for guest parking after 5:30 pm in their lot as well. The only negative is that it can be hard to hear your dinner companions over the noise of the restaurant. Some curtains, rugs, etc. might help. Overall, a really great experience!

All the food at Chai Pani is delicious and the bar program is spectacular, they need a Michelin star instead of just a Michelin recommendation. Best service in Decatur.

I hadn't been to Chai Pani in years, but next time, I won't wait as long! We had a party of 3 for dinner at 7:30 pm on Monday, 2/5/24. There were parking spots available in the small parking lot because it was a Monday. According to their website, "there is parking available in the lot surrounding our building. There is also street parking available. After 5:30PM, Sharian Rugs, a couple doors down, allows for guest parking in their lot as well." The outside is beautifully and ornately decorated. Very fun vibes! Erin was our waitress and she was wonderful! We split 3 entrees, all vegetarian, listed in order of my preference: - Samosa Chaat ($10.99): This was my favorite. So flavorful. So good. - Gobi 65 ($11.99): The cauliflower was so perfectly crispy. Delicious! - Disco Bhel ($9.99): Good! We also got the Iced Chai ($3.49 with free refills!) and Mango Lassi ($5). Both were very good! Highly recommend!! Can't wait to go back and try more dishes.

Ooh wee the food here is good! Loved it so much my first visit, we went back the next day lol! Both Friday and Saturday we arrived around 5pm (opening time) and were promptly seated. I can definitely see the wait time increasing as the evening goes on because right at opening there was a crowd of customers. If you're new to this type of food, some of the options might seem complex but everything is so darn good, you can't go wrong! We got the Gobi-which is fried cauliflower and it was so delicious I forgot I was eating a vegetable. The chili chicken is equally good, got some heat, ginger, garlic soy, it's perfection. The butter chicken is really good too! But my favorite it the sweet potato chaat, it's like an explosion of flavors with pomegranate, cashews and all sorts of yummy stuff! The service was good both visits, the waitresses were friendly and attentive. The restaurant has such a cool vibe and a nice patio.

This one of the most amazing buffets! It is so hard to find good buffets and authentic Indian food offered as a buffet is even more amazing! Loved the Butter Chicken and loved new items I had not eaten before. I was happy to share my limited knowledge of Indian food with my friend Jimmy , he had never had Indian food and loved the items offered here.I will definitely come back!

We had been to the Asheville location in December and now we tried the Decatur location. The location is super. We had to wait for a little bit but then we were seated promptly. The service is super fast. The staff is very nice. The food is consistently delicious. Will come back again.
Be the first to ReplyIced Chai was amazing as is the pakora.
The other dishes we had didn't seem too authentic but overall pretty good
Be the first to ReplyWaiting time was too long.
We waited for almost 45 minutes to get a table and we were expecting good food. It took additional 20-25 minutes to get all ordered items. We tried Pani Puri, Vada Pav, Pav Bhaji, Kale pakora, Gobhi Peoper fry and mango lassi. Vada Pav was better off all but still not as tasty compared to some other local places I have tried, Pani puri was just okay, Pav Bhaji had no flavor and it looks like boiled vegetables deserved with salt and a little bit of spices, Kale pakora had lot of oil and Gobhi pepper fry was burnt, Mango lassi was the worst and it has bad taste maybe it was old or not properly refrigerated. After complaining about the lassi it was not changed. Over hiped food, not tasty as expected. Not recommended.
Be the first to ReplyHad a solo dinner late Saturday night when I was in town
Had a solo dinner late Saturday night when I was in town for a few days. I've heard of the Asheville location for years so was excited to try it in Atlanta, and it did not disappoint! The cute little Pani puri stand was a great touch. The lime soda was good, but I should have gotten it without the masala. The vada pav was huge, well spiced, and not as heavy or oily as on the streets of India. The matchstick okra was addictive, but I'd already ordered way too much food! They were out of falooda, so I got coconut-mango sorbet and asked for a drizzle of rose syrup, so delicious! The staff were young, likely students, and they seemed happy to be working there. Great experience!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food.
It's one of my favorite places to go eat when I'm in Atlanta. Indian street at its best. If you can go over the weekend do try their Golgappas they do it just the way it's done in . It's just amazing.

I've been here several times and absolutely loved it each visit. I've only had amazing things, whether a starter or entree. Highly recommend to all!
Be the first to ReplyWe went in for a lunch buffet on a Saturday.
Their buffets can be a hit or miss. This time we were not at all disappointed with the options as well as the taste. They had gluten-free options and delicious vegetarian dishes like bhindi, palak paneer! It would be great if they could put up their lunch menu online so that it is easier for customers. The service and ambiance was amazing as usual!
Be the first to ReplyI ordered the daily special thali and a lime soda.
The thali was priced a bit high ($22) in my opinion for daal, beet root sabzi, a non-veg sabzi, and one roti and papad. The soda was so good and even better as I subbed the salt for chaat masala! If you are looking for authentic Indian food, this is not the place for you. However, the drinks are very good and the menu features classic Indian dishes with a more Americanized twist. Our group also had the SPDP (very yummy, similar to dahi puri), sweet potato chaat, chicken kathi roll, and saag paneer bowl with naan. The decor and art on the walls is very cute! The staff is very attentative and knowledgeable of the menu. Overall, if you are interested in checking out a more fusion Indian place with good drinks and don't mind paying steeper prices than most Indian places, this is the place for you.
Be the first to ReplyTheir health score is 70! Wish I had known before.
Food is interesting. Pain poori station was cool. Cold chai was great. All entrées were different but decent. Bhel was dry and needs more sauces. But I am still not going back to a restaurant that has a 70 and looks like the previous years were also less than 90. Very disappointing for a franchise with James Beard award.

This was my absolute favorite restaurant in Decatur, until now.....our server was very sweet, but there was no sign of apps until after the main dishes came out. The saag paneer was unexpectedly soupy and lacked any spices that it once did. We also ordered take out....well, the photo of the butter 'chicken' speaks for itself (2 tiny pieces of chicken). Maybe an off night, but hopeful Chai Pani returns to its better days.
Be the first to ReplyThe lunch buffet was amazing.
Great variety for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. I also tried the a la crate menu for dinner on a different day and I did not like the food. It was too spicy and the quality was mediocre. I don't know if it was the specific item that I ordered that wasn't great, but on a different day the food was fabulous.

Be the first to ReplyI'm still dreaming of those pani puri's and kale
I'm still dreaming of those pani puri's and kale pakoras!!!! I love the concept behind Chai Pani, and while it's not your most typical authentic Indian food it is DELICIOUS. Service was great and food came out quickly. The quality was fantastic and everything was very filling. I'd love to come back for their lunch buffet deal in the future.
