Per Se New York Reviews from The Last Year
Per Se is an elegant restaurant with a beautiful view
Per Se is an elegant restaurant with a beautiful view Columbus Circle and Central Park. The tasting menu means you'll get a huge collection of tiny dishes, all amazing. We ended up taking photos of almost everything. And the wine was delightful as well. It's not a place to eat if you're in a hurry trying to get somewhere else, you come here to really taste everything. we came here for a birthday, and it was certainly memorable. We challenged them a bit, one of us needs low-sugar, the other gluten-free, and they managed that beautifully and sensitively.

Per Se is an esteemed Thomas Keller restaurant and is currently awarded 3 Michelin Stars in NYC. I made a reservation in advance for solo dining here. Every seat offers views of Columbus Circle, but mine is not window as those are mostly reserved for parties of 2+. It was nonetheless a charming dining area especially when it is bright outside. My reservation was for 5pm, and they seated me promptly. They gave me a glass of Modicum brut to start off as a welcome drink. I got the standard prie fixe ($390) with wine pairing for some of the courses ($95), as I always do the full wine pairing by sharing with a food companion, so mine was more like a half pairing as I can't comfortably drink that much. They don't have a formal wine pairing program but they suggest wines for certain courses that is kind of a wine pairing. I am a big fan of the price being inclusive of gratuity/service charge, making the overall price not as bad as many American fine dining places I've been. Of course, the signature oysters and pearls course is amazing and mindblowing memorable, as the caviar texture and the tapioca within enhances the feel of the dish. This is one of few dishes that I'm like, I would want to order one more of that in the tasting menu. Before that course there were amuse bouche like the salmon tartare cornette and aji blanco that were nice starters before diving into the signature dish. The hen egg custard and eggplant were good but not that memorable. They do look quite nice presentation-wise, but that is to be expected for a Michelin star restaurant. The lubina tastes good but also not too much of a standout, but I loved the langoustine. The chicken course was surprisingly amazing, as I always hold skepticism of chicken in a restaurant since it's very hit or miss. Here, the chicken is one of the juiciest and most tender that I've tried in a long while. The lamb course (selle d'agneau) was good - the texture is not like actual lamb meat cut but it's pretty soft and chewy. This is one of the heavier main courses. The gougere is the last savory course before the dessert. It's a bit of a jump since I'm familiar with a palate cleanser before dessert, so this was an interesting cadence. For dessert, they have a huge spread. It was a bit overwhelming and hard to finish them all with all the sugar, but I'm glad they are able to let me take some home. The dessert has strawberries and cream, ice cream sandwich, pyramide au chocolat, mignardises, and a choice of 1-2 bon bons (that I got dulce de leche and coconut) but unfortunately none of them really wowed me, as I was expecting more for a 3 Michelin Stars. Service is excellent as to be expected, with everything done right with no misses there. I even got invited to a kitchen tour to see the action, which by that time, the workers are preparing for second dining service. Overall, I love this place but for a 3 Michelin Stars, I honestly expected more and to be wowed to the likes of other 3 Michelin Stars I've been, such as Frantzén and Noma. That is not to say the place is not good - it just wasn't too memorable at this level of dining but you'll likely have an amazing experience if you're fairly new to the fine dining realm.
Absolutely phenomenal dining experience.
In all, took about 2 hours. There wasn't a bad thing the entire evening. Staff is very attentive, good I delicious, and the views are spectacular.
Everything is so perfect and intended.
It's such a dining experience. It's the best of the best. A luxury of eating the best food.
A few evenings ago, my son and I had the pleasure of dining
A few evenings ago, my son and I had the pleasure of dining at Per Se in Columbus Circle before heading to a Broadway show, and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary. Seated in the lounge area with a perfect view of the city, we were immediately welcomed by a lovely staff who made us feel like part of their family. Our culinary journey began with a five-course tasting menu that was absolutely off the charts. The first course, oysters and caviar, a traditional dish from The French Laundry, set the tone for the evening. When I uttered the words "wow!" in amazement, a staff member responded that this was the reaction they were aiming for. The dishes were so otherworldly and delicious that I found myself exclaiming, "This is ridiculous!" :-) We made one substitution to enjoy the black truffle risotto, which I highly recommend. The risotto, made with a special Arborio rice with a higher starch content, had the creamiest finish. Our server then showcased stunning black truffles from Australia and shaved a generous portion over our risotto. This might have been the best thing I've ever eaten. Other standout dishes included the cucumber gazpacho and the pastrami-crusted foie gras. The Japanese wagyu dish was also ridiculously delicious, and we were genuinely sad when our plates were clean. The dessert selection was a spectacle, covering our entire table with delectable gourmet donut holes, strawberries and cream, a fancy ice cream sandwich, a super light chocolate mousse-type cake, and espresso ice cream. I am probably forgetting a couple additional things on our table. Oh...and the butter was even amazing! Our server was fantastic and lovely, enhancing our experience with drinks that were both amazing and complex. One particularly memorable drink, which we suggested be named "El Paradiso," featured bourbon with a coconut infusion and hints of vanilla from the pandan leaf--it was pure paradise. This also paired beautifully with the beef. To top it all off, we were sent off with the amazing sweet treats that Per Se is known for. Enjoying one of their cookies with my coffee the next morning brought back wonderful memories of our incredible evening. Thank you so much to Per Se for taking such great care of us. We will definitely, definitely be back!
The food was fabulous.
The service was great. I did not feel rushed. It was a great dining experience. A 3 star michlen restaurant.

I should have written this review many years ago but my dining experience is still pretty memorable. My only regret is that we were returning from skydiving and my nausea was in full force and even then, every bite was incredible. It was only when we got to almost the last 2 courses, one of which was sweet bread, that I couldn't mentally stomach it from the nausea. They were extremely attentive as the maitre d immediately came over to us and asked us if everything was ok and offered to make us something else for those courses. I'm sure they don't get a lot plates returned with food on it haha. We politely declined as it wasn't the flavors or the fault of the restaurant. I'm sure much has changed since then but it seems like they're still going strong as per the current reviews.

It was a lot easier to get one at Per Se plus their menus are similar enough that I thought it will be a good representation of what Thomas Keller's French Laundry is all about. Service was three stars worthy but unfortunately the dishes did not match up to the same level. The tasting menu comes in 9 courses. Strange the way Per Se created the menu as it doesn't separate some of the courses as "or" so the menu looks like they offer more dishes than it really is. For example, the menu listed 12 dishes but you aren't getting 12 as you get to choose one of the two appetizers (oysters and pearls or supplement uni donburi). Same with the salad course, you get to choose between salad of asparagus or supplement foie gras. Same with the entree, you pick between lamb or supplement wagyu. I think adding the word "or" between the dishes helps minimize confusion as the waiter had to explain that we were only getting this or that and the rest that were listed we will get. To start, the amuse bouche cracker was too salty. Their signature dish oysters and pearls was disappointing. I didn't expect the sauce base contains tapioca almost like a rice pudding so it was a bit thicker than I'd like. I was expecting it to be a light oyster base cream broth filled with all the ocean umami goodness. I even inquired with our waiter if French Laundry serves the same exact recipe and he confirmed so. Unfortunately I can't say this is my favorite dish and sort of a let down that I did not fall in love with their signature dish. The supplement foie gras was velvety smooth but bland. There wasn't that foie gras flavor I wish it had. The langoustine and poussin were my two favorites of the night. The langoustine was sweet and tender, paired well with the salsa verde and mole sauce. The poussin was the best bite of chicken I have had in all of the starred restaurants, done to perfection. Assortment of desserts: mint chocolate tart, cappuccino cup, panna cotta, caramel candies, macarons, donut holes, choice of bon bon... Parting gift: tin of cookies Overall Per Se seems to be more of a one star than a three stars to me. It's underwhelming for a three star restaurant just like SingleThread. On the contrary, I feel couple one star restaurants deserve two stars. I guess it's a been there done that, I can check off French Laundry from my to-try list now.
Visit for the food, the views and the service!
With great anticipation we travelled from CT to NYC solely to dine at the famed Per Se, and it did not disappoint. Our table was ready at 4:30, though our reservation was for 4:45. The dishes were inventive and plated beautifully. I would not have imagined that even nine tiny courses could leave us so perfectly sated. All 5 in our party agreed the oysters and caviar were a favorite, and that the trout, while good, may have been our least favorite. Cocktails were amazing. Two in our party are experienced bourbon drinkers and agreed the Black Manhattan was the best they ever had. Then there was desert. So many remarkable sweet treats to sample! The views from the fourth floor window, over Columbus Circle and out toward the skyline in the distance, were sublime. This review would not be complete however, without acknowledgment of the service. The wait staff were attentive without being intrusive, and while they were well heeled, it was never pretentious. Normally I scoff at the idea that service is so important, favoring focus on the food, but in this case, the service actually elevated what was already fantastic fare. Bottom line - go there for the food AND also for the service!
Finally made it to Per Se.
Lived up to my expectations. The food, the ambiance, the decor, the service, all flawless. Well worth every penny. Excellent choice for that " once in a lifetime" fine dining experience. Go, you will forget how much you spent, but will never forget how special an experience it was.
Memorable dinner
Our family went there for a casual dinner. The service was excellent. The staff were friendly and very attentive. Wine selection was abundant, however, they were on the high side but that you may expect from the 3 - Michelin Restaurant. We took the option to add cavier on the first dish and order the Miyazaki Waguy, which was very tender and succulent. The overall experience had very excellent.
Perfect Dinner at Per Se
The dinner at PerSe was truly memorable. The wine pairing complemented each course. The execution of the coordinated serving and clearing was impressive. The delicious portions and the wine pairings were just the right amount. Truly, the perfect dining experience.
Avoid!!!
Avoid, in any way, this place. I rented the place for a business meeting with 70 high profile international politicians. Celeste, the manager, refused to reheat the cold main course that was served. Even thought they offered a sound system, it was turned off most of the time. Waiters were rude. Out reservation were until 2:30 pm, By 2pm, when people were still inside the place, employees grabbed purses and backpacks and threw outside the main room, closing the doors and pushing everyone out. I can’t believe they have 3 stars.
A dinner fit for royalty
My wife and I went here for our anniversary and they literally treated us like royalty. And to top it off the food was absolutely exceptional. It was one of the best dinners we have had stateside. The high points were the chicken, oysters and pearls, and the lamb. Also the dessert was out of control. If there was a low point it was the tuna which was a little sinewy, although still tasty. We really liked our French Laundry experience, but Per Se bested it.
Superb
We dined at Per Se last week to celebrate my son's birthday. The whole experience was just superb. The ambiance, service and food were amazing. The sommelier was incredibly knowledgable, the waiting staff were attentive but not intrusive and the tasting menu along with the wine pairing was out of this world. We were treated like VIPs they couldn't do enough for us. Thank you so much for making our evening a special one, very much appreciated!
I had a wonderful experience.
I dined alone because I was in town for work and absolutely everyone at the restaurant went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. The food was excellent across the board.

Expensive (3 star Michelin) but when you account for quality it can only be considered a bargain. All I could think about the next day was to figure out how to get my friends to join with me to celebrate great food!
Deserving Michelin 3 stars
The food is creative and delicious, a true foodie delight. The service is stellar, probably the most impressive part. They catered to all our dietary restrictions and made us feel special and also made it so easy. I was worried about that part initially, but they relieved my stress immediately. The truffles addition was wonderful, the pearls and oyster which has been on the menu for twenty years is delicious and no surprise it is still on the menu. The views were gorgeous and the service was professional, which is expected of a Michelin 3 star. It was worth every penny because it is not a cheap night.
This was the fanciest meal I've ever had! It's a Thomas
This was the fanciest meal I've ever had! It's a Thomas Keller restaurant who is also the owner of the French Laundry in California. Each diner had their own personal waiter at the table that uniformly walked around the table as if it were a uniform dance. They replaced our silverware after each course during the 5 course meal and poured wine with one hand behind their back the fancy way! Service was 100/10. The food itself was really rich. I went to bed later that night and my stomach was not used to it. The meals were a work of art and the chef doesn't repeat an ingredient in any dish. I think my favorite dish was the caviar appetizer... oh so creamy!

From the moment you enter, Per Se captivates with its elegant ambiance and attentive staff. The Chef's tasting menu, a showcase of Keller's mastery, delights with each meticulously crafted dish using the finest ingredients. Additionally, exploring the beautifully curated wine cellar with the sommelier enhanced our dining experience. Per Se transcends mere dining; it offers a personalized gastronomic adventure. Whether celebrating a special occasion or simply indulging, Per Se promises an unforgettable experience, earning its well-deserved five-star rating and setting the standard for fine dining worldwide.
Celebrated my husband's birthday at Per Se.
Loved the dining room and our table facing the big windows and Central Park. The best part of the meal of course was the desserts tray with 5-6 different desserts one better than the next! We got to go to the kitchen and take photos there and see the California kitchen staff in action. Staff was knowledgeable about the menu and they were all respectful. We also got a printed copy of our menu to remember this memorable night forever!
Decent but most basic 3 star I've been to.
Reluctantly crossed off my list. Great view facing the Central Park. Service was excellent and adds a great personal touch. Food however was whatever
TL:DR Stellar service, ambiance and drinks.
I was a little disappointed at the food. Their whisky sour is to die for! They have a waiting area in the front with a few couches and chairs to use when waiting for the other people in your party. Walking in, the venue was beautiful and serene. My old-friend and I sat at the very back row, facing east, watching the moon that was full and rising. I think we had the most patient and gracious server in the house. Isaiah patiently explained our 8 courses and all the decisions that he needed to make that evening quite a treat. All of the half a dozen staff that assisted us were fantastic. The food however wasn't as mind blowing as I thought it would be. Two memorable dishes stored in memory were the oysters and pearls (first dish) and then the dessert (banchan-style). Other dishes that I remember, but not necessarily loved was the foie (creamy but still had a bit of stringiness I had to cut around) and the lamb. Still a great place to eat at however, Atelier Crenn still takes the cake.
A Fallen Star
I first dined at Per Se in 2010 and it was a very memorable experience. This last visit in February 2024 was a less positive one. While the food remains generally excellent, the overall experience was a let down. It started with the host walking 30 feet in front of us as he led us to our table. The salon outside the main dining room was depressing with no flowers or other memorable décor. I felt like I was walking through a conference room. I don't think the dining room has changed in 14 years. The two beautiful pots of flowers that flank either side of the dining room were still there but someone felt less special. Per Se has a dress code and while most diners were dressed appropriately, there were some there in sweatshirts and hoodies and one diner looked like he hadn't fixed his hair. Ambiance is important in fine dining and the refusal of the restaurant to call diners out made the whole experience feel less special, so much so that I wouldn't go back on this failing alone. When I asked for a black napkin, I was told the restaurant did not have any which shocks me given that most nicer restaurants offer black napkins to avoid getting white lint on your clothing. Service was generally friendly and attentive. I had the vegetarian tasting menu while my partner had the regular menu. We both enjoyed the food but some of the dishes felt flat and lacked taste. It is quite amazing that the menu changes daily and no ingredient is used twice in a meal, but these facts did not make up for the fact that we left feeling that we had a good but not amazing meal and were left pondering how this restaurant still has 3 stars. The restaurant needs rejuvenation and a reminder that ambience and service are just as important as the food.
My husband is the best and surprised me for Valentine's Day.
I loved everything Service and the food excellent!!!
Ate at Per Se at the second seating this past Saturday.
Beautiful setting. The family had so much fun. It was an experience not just a meal.
All around incredible, ambiance feels like you're in
All around incredible, ambiance feels like you're in someone's living room (in a good way) with the cozy fireplace and the dim lighting. View is beautiful and there's plenty of space between tables to not feel cramped. This was our first time at Per Se and we were in awe with the cozy yet elevated flavors. I wouldn't say the menu is too experimental; many of the flavors are familiar but done with very high quality ingredients and care around how they are paired. Our favorite by far was the lamb, which was easily the most tender lamb we have ever had. The service was also wonderful and friendly. They chatted with us and were overall very welcoming and knowledgeable. Would definitely come back again!

Absolutely AWESOME from what I understand there must be a new chef in house because it's even better now than it was before!!!
Emblematic Of Haute Dinning In NYC.
Per Se, a restaurant that executes modern American recipes with a touch of French influence, perfectly. It's 4th story location has windows which overlook Central Park and the hustle bustle of the city below....but in spite of the charming view, my eyes were focused on the caliber of the food and it's presentation. It has retained 3 Michelin stars over the years anchored, no doubt, by exceptional service, an intimate dining experience and 2 fabulous tasting menus ( one vegetarian). I gasped with delight at Per Se's signature starter: Oysters & Pearls with a Scoop of Caviar in a Savory Tapioca Pudding. I also loved the grand finale dessert in the form of the restaurant 'coffee & donuts'. Per Se is emblematic of haute dinning in NYC.
Spectacular experience.
Six years to get a reservation! We were seated at the best seat in the house. A gorgeous venue with spectacular view. We had a nine course tasting menu that was soooooo good. It was the most expensive meal we have ever indulged - was it worth it? Yes!! The staff were kind, explained every dish and we were delighted in the process. Not one complaint. We are a senior couple that spend money on experiences - not clothing etc. they made us feel at home and totally at ease. Definitely deserves its *** Michelin rating.
Third Time Is Also a Charm
Over the years I’ve been a repeat customer at Per Se because when it comes to an all-around EXCEPTIONAL dining experience they are the pinnacle others strive for. The service, especially from the sommelier, was top notch professionalism with a healthy dose of warmth. We went all in and did the Evolution tasting menu with pairing, and although expensive, the experience was worth it. Under the watchful eye of Chef de Cuisine the kitchen turns out a symphony of sumptuous, tasty and visually stunning food. BRAVO. Definitely “worth a special trip” for anyone living in or visiting the Big Apple. 👍🙌🤩👍🙌🤩

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!
Worked flawlessly!
Worked so well! I was a bit nervous, but everything went very smoothly. purchased the reservation, and got into the restaurant seamlessly.

So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res

Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app

Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?

Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
