🙂 4/5 - Overall, Per Se met my expectations for a 3 Michelin star

Overall, Per Se met my expectations for a 3 Michelin star restaurant, though it did not blow me away (hence why 4 instead of 5 Yelp stars).Full disclosure- I have previously dined at exactly one 3 Michelin star restaurant, Benu in SF, so I have some experience (though nowhere near extensive) with this level of establishment. The good:-The food was delicious. Everything was executed with the utmost precision and with high quality ingredients. One would expect nothing less from a restaurant of this caliber.-The magical setting. Sleek and tucked away on the 4th floor of the Shops at Columbus Circle, the views of Central Park especially at the sunset hour were lovely and also added a very New York flair.-The dessert. This was my favorite part of the whole meal. Rather than a single dessert course, Per Se pulls no punches and gives you a whole assortment of sweets to indulge in. Though the variety is large, the portions are thoughtful so you don't get flavor fatigue or feel overwhelmed. In particular, I loved the playful signature "coffee and donuts"- the donuts despite looking plain had the perfect texture and the deceptive "coffee" was nicely balanced and refreshing. The bonbons were also fantastic. Try to sample as many as you can!-The kitchen tour. We were asked if we wanted to see the kitchen, and I'm so glad we did. I've never seen a more clean and regimented kitchen in my life and it was eye-opening to see the behind-the-scenes. Definitely ask to do this if you have time! The meh:-How do I say this...many of the ingredients for the regular tasting menu sans supplements were rather ordinary. To be clear, they were probably the tastiest versions of those ingredients I've ever had, but I was expecting something a bit more adventurous and experimental. I wonder how much of this is due to them wanting you to purchase the (pricey) supplements...-Service felt a tad sterile. Again to be clear, the staff were super attentive and there's nothing specific to complain about. It's just that compared to Benu, it didn't feel as warm and there wasn't as much small talk, though that could be a NYC thing.Overall, recommend you go and judge for yourself. This is a storied place for good reason.Humorous aside: Chef Keller happened to be in attendance and though we didn't get to speak with him, we overheard another guest joking to him that he looked just like Ralph Fiennes from the film The Menu. Keller apparently hadn't seen the movie so he was confused, which amused both the guests and some of the staff.
