They added an 18% service charge onto our bill and did not alert us so we tipped an additional 25% without knowing. While I'm ok with a built in service charge it is standard to alert the customer that you have done so because it is not standard across the industry.

Food was pretty good, limited options for vegetarians and I think no options for vegans. However the reason I wouldn't recommend the restaurant is due to the service. For the price I'm paying I don't need to be scoffed at by the waiter. Kindness is free. Omelette was good though. Would not return.
Be the first to ReplyGreat dining spot in Sherman Oaks.
Worth the drive from Encino, Studio City or elsewhere to get really authentic French cuisine. Nice but limited menu (keeps the food serviced top notch) and very attentive service. The only bothersome thing is their 18% "service charge" which as our server politely explained went towards employee benefits, etc. but was not a tip. So, if you take the 18% service charge, add a 20% tip and 9.5% Los Angeles sales tax you're paying 47.5% in fees over and above the menu prices. Personally I feel an 18% service charge is excessive, especially when it comes as a surprise when you get your bill. Bet it decreases the actual tips the waiters get but Petit Trois is always fully booked and the service always great, so I guess great food is worth the "service charge". Why don't they just add it to the menu price and stop the unexpected surprise customers get when the bill arrives?
Be the first to ReplyWhat a disappointing experience we had last Saturday, March
What a disappointing experience we had last Saturday, March 11. We have eaten at Petit Trois many times & were so happy to be able to take out-of-town guests who had researched great restaurants in LA & were eager to go. The food was good, as expected, although my omelet was cold, but as the wait person was essentially MIA thru-out the meal there was zero chance of having that addressed. But to go back to the beginning: first of all, the hostess could only be described as "snarly", both in her interaction with us upon our arrival as well as with other guests waiting to be seated. This was in contrast to the perfectly charming personnel to whom I had spoken as I made, changed, & then checked on the reservation. Our guests were quite taken back by the hostess' nasty attitude toward us & other guests. The wait person was friendly, took our orders & then disappeared. Let me repeat: she disappeared. I would search for a sighting of her & could see her in the restaurant, but she never came back to the table until the very end of the meal. We had to flag down another wait person to ask for milk for coffee at the end of the meal although it had been requested when the coffee was ordered. Here are the other items we had to request during the meal: additional sauce for the hamburger, the French fries which were ordered as an afterthought but were extremely slow to arrive, more water as the table carafe wasn't automatically refilled, our coffees which hadn't arrived about 15 minutes after they were ordered. We literally did not see our wait person between the time we took our order & the time she delivered the check with a cutie drawing on the escargot on the bill which she stated was a view of my head from the back. (Huh???) We did not leave anything more than the 18% tip which we would always normally do. By the way, she also did not point out when she delivered the check that the 18% tip was already on the check. We were aware of this practice having been to Petit Trois many times, but I think it's a gracious thing for restaurants to point out if it's their practice as many people would not read the small print. This was such a disappointing experience. We won't go back as there are many others places to go where the service IS as good as the food.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food, service and environment.
It is a little hard to get a reservation last minute, so plan early, but overall great spot!

Petit Trois has definitely gone downhill and allthe little things of being nickel and dimed ruin the experience. The food is good, but the options are limited and swimming in butter. The hostess is pretty snobby and unfriendly. The valet informed me that they only had "vip" spots left, meaning that valet was $20! No. Food is v expensive and when the check came I noticed there was an 18% service fee added. I didn't tip on top of that and only by reading these yelp reviews I'm learning perhaps this isn't gratuity at all?! It's just not worth the cost for the experience.
Be the first to ReplyNice brunch spot and tasty options.
Croque is to die for. Elevated the food options on the fairly stagnant blvd.
Be the first to ReplyWe celebrated a birthday and had a very delicious dinner.
The fried goat cheese on my salad was crispy at the bottom and creamy throughout. The French onion soup was cheesy and flavorful. My muscles were placed in a very yummy broth with thyme and shallots. The frites had a hint of garlic and cheese and all dishes came to the table piping hot. Service was also great. I just wish we all didn't feel nickeled and dime'd the whole night. Valet was $20 a car- an option we desperately tried to avoid but there's very little street parking. Each 1/2 sourdough baguette is $10- for 5 people we spent $20 just on bread. I guess I understand charging for bread, even though I can't think of another high end restaurant that does so, but $10 for 1/2? My Grey Goose martini was $17 plus $4.00- I guess the $17 was for the martini and $4 was for the premium liquor, $21? That's just an exorbitant amount of money to pay for one drink. The place was crowded on a Sunday night, so obviously there's many who don't mind paying. But I think we will wait a while before we return.

We came out here for a Mom's night out last night and without having too high expectations, I was surprised at how good everything from the service to the food was! We shared few rounds of crispy on the outside and soft in the inside, freshly baked, piping hot Baguette and delicious butter! So good! Also had the French onion soup, which was amazing, topped with cheesy goodness and tried a bit of the mushroom soup from one of the moms which was also amazing!! For entree, most of us got the Steak Frites which honestly was a flavor packed explosion inside your mouth. Amazing flavors with the Chimicurri type sauce on top of the steak along with super fresh perfectly cooked crispy parsley fries paired with some garlic aioli! Wow I can't wait to go back! Steak was cooked to a perfect medium. Two of the other moms went with the Pistou Pasta which also looked delicious! Service was on point and we could not be happier! What a successful moms night out delicious dinner.
