Honestly the food is great- I can't take that from them.
So great in fact that I'd love to go back for the burger, steak tartare and carrot salad however that damn service charge is a hard pass.I'm a 20%+ tipper, however when you throw on a 18% Service Charge that's not a tip- you might as well be asking for 40%. That's crazy.
Be the first to ReplyThe French onion soup is just mind-blowingly fantastic.
The best I've ever had. The Big Mec burger was also so complex, layered and a one of a kind "eat with a fork" burger. The crabcake was ehhhh (it had a overwhelming flavor to it like -- imagine a more intense béarnaise sauce. Also had some shell in it). But the chocolate mouse was delicious. Really attentive and friendly/personable service. Inside it's a little tight quarters but still nice. Would definitely go again!

An 18% forced staff charge on the bill, which is NOT a gratuity (tip), explained as a staff wage fee, is absolutely not acceptable for a $37.00 hamburger. The reason that I pay $37.00 for a hamburger is so that you CAN pay your staff. Why not add a fee for your utilities and your rent too? I will NEVR go to this place again. In fact, as soon as I write this I will reverse the credit card charge.

I am a returning customer and Petit Trois has been one of my favorite places to dine. Had a party of 7 there on Sunday night. 4 key menu items were not available and a 5th item was not available on the desert menu (although it was a special card and not removed before given to customers. The waiter and manager explained it was Sunday night and that was the reason for the missing items. But, the French Onion Soup was tasteless, the Big Mac was swimming in what tasted like Worcestershire sauce at the bottom of the plate, the pasta was overdone and a simple martini was made incorrectly. The wait for food was 2-3 times longer then normal and although we were warned it would be a cold evening, we had to ask more then once for the outdoor heaters to be turned on. What a disappointment, cannot believe Chef Ludo would approve.

We just ate here today and had a great time sitting at the kitchen bar. Service, food, and ambience was super cool. I was totally going to recommend this great place to friends until we noticed the 18% service fee added to our bill. The waitress told us it was separate from the tip, and that she hoped this fee to the patrons would be gone in a few months. Well, we did our research and spoke with a friend who runs a bunch of SoCal restaurants who is 100% against this practice. We also learned that it is not a mandatory law for restaurant owners and is entirely used at the restaurants discretion, which seems predatory. ..??? And we also learned that is within our consumer rights to refuse it altogether. The service fees are 100% voluntary by the consumer yet we were not given the option to have this fee removed. Sorry, can't go back to there. Huge rip off. Food was great, but we left with a bad taste in our mouths.
Be the first to ReplyPetit Trois is kind of in a random and unassuming spot.
Parking is super limited (luckily we went there when it opened, so there was a handful of spaces available). They have ample outdoor seating which is a huge plus because they only have bar seating inside and it's a pretty tight space. Overall, the food was fantastic. We ordered the Steak Frites, Big Mec (the two things I think you must order at least once) and the Warm Goat Cheese Salad. The steak was perfectly cooked, though it was not sliced against the grain (which was odd to me). The Big Mec was so rich and delicious and I never knew I needed a warm goat cheese salad in my life.Would I recommend coming here? I think it's definitely a place someone should go to at least once. For me, it's pricey for what you actually get. And I must add (like others here) they do charge a mandatory 18% service charge that is not considered a tip. So you can easily spend over $100 for two people.

On Friday March 3, 2023, two of my friends and I had lunch at Petit Trois in Los Angeles. I was told that this is an outstanding restaurant. I was surprised and disappointed. I will have to say the food was good, albeit extremely pricey, a given for a top LA Restaurant. The outdoor seating, however, was an abysmal match for the cuisine. There was a roped off area of the parking lot where tables were set up on the asphalt with a canopy covering the tables. Next to the restaurant (not 80' away) was a Yum Yum Donuts shop and a Dry Cleaners. This was not what I had in mind when I saw the Petit Trois' menu. I also noticed in retrospect that there are no photos of this outdoor seating arrangement. I wonder why? This is not what I expect to get from a highly-rated LA restaurant.

petit trois | hollywood, ca | $$-$$$ | 4/5if you're looking for a restaurant with a french bistro vibe, petis trois would be the one. the restaurant itself is a slender rectangular shaped store with mostly bar seating. there is also limited outdoor seating with larger tables. the structure and interior gives the restaurant more of a casual vibe that fits smaller parties better. i do love how it's buzzing with conversation from apertif drinkers. petit trois servesbfrench bistro classics, coffee, cocktails, as well as a solid wine selection. burgandy escargot ($27) | 4/5buttery and garlicly snails without an overwhelmingly earthy smell. perfect with the crunchy bread it was served with. big mec ($37) | 3.8/5this is the monster every one comes to try. a double cheese burger with bordelaise and a special creamy sauce, i felt like this was definitely too much of an indulgence for my liking. the frites/fries on the other hand were crispy and thin, just like how i like it and is the perfect vehicle for all the sauce left on the platemussels mariniere ($34) | 4.4/5highlight of the meal! the slight tang from the white wine and creme fraishe plus the fresh herbs made the dish extremely tasty. the mussels were all fresh and cooked perfectly. fries and bread served with the mussels acts as the perfect sauce vehicle. overall, a great taste of french bistro classics here in la. i do think the price point is on the high side that would deter me from coming back. however it is great to know that if im looking for a banging mussel marinere with frites, this would be the first place im running back to!

I went here on my birthday, not only was my overpriced filet stringy, but they never acknowledged my birthday through anything but bringing me something I couldn't make out as a desert...super horrible. I am so sorry I tried this place on such a big birthday. Go with what you know. Server horrible. Horrible service, said can you move heater? Told someone may eventually show, so forced to wear coat and lackluster food at crazy prices! I was disappointed every course. Gross and 0 checking in. Was super excited as I saw this chef highlighted on tv for pop ups. See why they use bad pizza sign as they don't plan on pleasing diners. Ruined my birthday.

I loved my perch at the bar watching chefs prepare food in this intimate (small!) but bustling restaurant tucked into the back corner of a trip mall.Warm and friendly service and where the locals come for the steak-frites mix.
Be the first to ReplyAte here on my first day back in LA in quotes some time.
I'm very happy I read about this little French bistro and sought out a table. We were lucky to walk in around 2 pm on a Friday. The friendly staff was very accommodating and found us a nice table for 3 outside after a short wait. I went the escargot and Big Mec. The snails were as good as any I've had in Paris and the burger was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend making a stop here for lunch or dinner. You won't be disappointed if you love French bistro / brassiere style dining.
Be the first to ReplyThe food and service here were great, but beware that
The food and service here were great, but beware that diners are expected to pay 36%-38% beyond the cost of the meal. Had a nice meal here, but when we got the check, we discovered that there's an 18% service fee (totally fine). However, there was a highlighted note next to it notifying us that it is not meant as a gratuity. We asked our waiter for confirmation as I didn't want to shortchange anyone, and was told that the service fee was for equitable hourly wages, and was not meant to be a substitute for any portion of the amount that would normally be paid as tips. Normally I tip 20%, but we decided on 18% on the subtotal. So 36% beyond the cost of the meal. I feel that operational costs should be reflected in the food, rather than as a surprise cost added to the bill. I was still overall satisfied, but then I got home and noticed something odd. The menu online has a different note at the bottom of the screen, stating that an additional gratuity is not expected. This is different from the note that was printed and highlighted on the physical receipt, as well as the explanation provided by our server. I'm left scratching my head at the discrepancy. In any case, was overall pleased with the food but will not be returning. The only reason I wrote a review is because I'm hoping someone from the restaurant can offer clarity.

The pistachio pate was the best thing we tried and I would absolutely go back to eat that with a nice glass of wine. The entrees were really just fine. The Big Mac while cool in concept was ok in execution and flavor, which feels on par for a Jon & Vinny restaurant tbh.
Be the first to ReplyGreat spot for French food.
The duck was perfection. Juicy with crispy skin and delicate flavors. Pesto pasta and mussels were pretty good. Loved the food but didn't really care for the setting as it completely lacked any character or special touches.

Be the first to ReplyLA needs more restaurants like Petit Trois.
The food is absolutely delicious and service is impeccable. The timing of each course was perfect! I ate more than I thought I could at 7 months pregnant.. simply couldn't stop!
Be the first to ReplyThe burger was brilliant.
One of the best I've ever had. The rich sauce surrounding it brings it allHome. Very attentive staff as well. Go here. Go back here. Won't be disappointed. Comes with a $35 ish price tag but well worth the indulgence.

The critics didn't praise it, but I think Petit Trois is as lovely as it is likeable. The Onion Soup is a veal-broth volcano with a huge mound of gruyere on top, the Pate de Campagne is a melt-in-your-mouth mound, and the Escargot is exactly what I want at all times. Don't shy away from simpler-sounding items either. The Pesto Pasta is fresh and light, a lunch that won't put you to sleep. Chocolate Mousse with chantilly cream is rich and dark yet it's not so heavy that you can't push away from the table to go on with your day. Still love the French food. It's not cheap but the better things are worth paying for.
Be the first to ReplyOMG!!! This place is a dream came through.
I've been seen the pictures of that saucy burger and it's just so good. Even the pictures make you crave but it's nothing close to the actual smell.I love the onion soup too, those two would be on the menu next time for sure! It's a casual spot, but a reservation wouldn't hurt since it's a small location with limited capacity.

I really love coming to this restaurant, especially just popping in and sitting at the bar for a glass of wine but recently they've added an 18% surcharge and didn't tell us. Ordering a glass of wine shouldn't be charged an extra 18%, it has nothing to do with the kitchen, all you did was pour me a glass. I won't be coming back until they stop doing this. Very frustrating.
Be the first to ReplyIt was a nice day for brunch.
We sat inside at the high top seats. It's fun to watch the line cooks and the servers as they dance their dance to get dishes from the line to the hungry patrons! We had a fabulous brunch. It's difficult to pick a favorite. The shredded carrot salad was light and crisp. The escargot was scrumptious. You have to dip the baguette into that butter! The French onion soup was so rich and heavenly. The mussels and frites were a great pairing. The chocolate mousse was sweet enough and decadent enough to cap off the delicious lunch!I highly recommend making a reservation. This place is busy. There's a small parking lot. Street parking is the better option.

I've been to plenty of French bistros and this was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. It's in a nondescript strip mall near a dry cleaner and a donut shop, and if I hadn't been with friends who knew where we were going, I would have totally missed it. We ate outside in the parking lot converted to an eating area, not exactly elegant, but once the food starts showing up you feel like you're transported to France.Everything we had was tasty - from the bread and butter, to the incredible beet salad with horseradish, the crocque madame and the filet with pepper sauce and fries. My friends shared the huge steak and the fries were so delicious we ate every last one, even the little bits. My sandwich was perfect as was the salad, I don't think I've ever tasted fresher lettuce, perfectly dressed. For drinks we had rose and the most delicious chilled red. Our server was great, and when we had one hiccup ( the steak came out way too rare, and it took forever to come back) they took care of it without question. Make a reservation as the place and patio are tiny. Definitely worth a trip!
Be the first to ReplyVery fancy and expensive restaurant.
My fiend brought me here. It was ok, pretty tasty at times. The baguette and butter was not tasty. The onion soup was very tasty and had tons of cheese. My friend has crab cakes I think with pretty tasty sauce. We had trout, sole and pepper steak for the mains. The trout was very tasty. The sole was also good, nice rich buttery sauce. But $79 for this is insanely expensive and just doesn't make sense. The paper steak was very tasty. Maybe needed being a little salty with the french fries being a little salty. On the whole good food. So good but I wouldn't order the sole again, it's just crazy to charge that for fish, it's way more than the trout or steak...
