The best French toast I ever had & I'm not even a French toast/pancake person!!! I've taken all my family and friends here just for that and they all had great things to say about this place.
Be the first to ReplyWe made a reservation as a party of 2 at 9:30 this morning.
Portage Bay Cafe at 9:30 AM is a chill place to be-the ambiance was so nice. It was a great way to wake up. I ordered the Mushroom Benedict and it was so good. I've always been a big fan of how Portage Bay does their potatoes, and their hollandaise with the mushrooms was perfect. They nailed the eggs and it was a generous but not too big portion. We really enjoyed the hot sauce they provided, specifically the red one. Definitely worth the stop!

I love the breakfast options, especially when pumpkin is around

So many people had recommended these restaurants and finally made it to this location. Wow, can't believe I waited so long it was delicious! Make a reservation or you'll likely be waiting a while on a weekend and be sure to show up at the right location. (Saw others who didn't) We tried the Seattle Benedict and French toast which were both sooo good. With the French toast you get to walk up and put your own toppings on - everything was super fresh and tasty. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu.

I took my daughter for brunch while the rest of the family was out of town. We shared two dishes. Joe's Scramble with bacon was delicious and pretty much flawless. The special Churro Pancakes were visually delightful with really yummy churros, although somewhat dry pancakes. Service was terrific. Vibe was pleasant.
Be the first to ReplyFirst time here on a Saturday around 11.
We did not have a reservation. The hostess staff was ok. We were seated at the kitchen bar - it was not a great spot. I would wait for a table next time. Our server, Bethany was upbeat and knowledgeable about the menu. We had the specials of day: lychee mimosa and the torero omelette. The omelette was outstanding. Great flavor and spicy but not overwhelming. The potatoes were crispy and creamy delish. I give a 4 star vs 5 since we only tried one dish, the seating staff seemed confused and the kitchen bar table was ok.

Our group of 9 had a breakfast reservation and we were promptly seated when we arrived. Service was fine, all water and coffee requests were quickly fulfilled. Our food orders came out quickly as well. My traditional French toast was excellent. Three thick slices of challah bread soaked in a buttery batter. I didn't need the powdered sugar because the syrup was sweet enough. The nice touch was the breakfast fruit and toppings bar - fresh strawberries, blackberries and dried blueberries, peaches and pears in syrup, whipped cream, coconut flakes. Other meals looked good, though a special, the salmon Benedict was lukewarm and potatoes weren't uniformly cooked. Portions were very generous. One of our party is gluten sensitive and appreciated the variety of gluten free choices. The coffee was not great, but was frequently refilled. The room has high ceilings and when filled is very loud. I do see why it is popular but it is not a place I would consider returning to unless I was craving French toast.

bigger portions but really good and good vegetarian and vegan food. Amazing service and great employees

The line can be long so arrive early.

The food is just awful! French toast tasted as if it was left over from the previous weekend. Could possibly be the worst brunch I have ever had in Seattle.

A little pricey but I go with the intention of ordering dishes that include the "fruit bar" (one trip where I can fill my plate with as much whipped cream and fresh fruit as I want) so I always feel like I get my moneys worth! I always get a reservation because the wait can be crazy, especially if you want indoor seating.

I ordered the Bananas Foster French Toast and loaded it with berries. This is the most delicious French toast I've ever had in my life, the caramel sauce is to die for. My friends got the Rancher's Breakfast and the goat cheese sandwich and they loved those as well. Definitely recommend!

Very great food! Love the breakfast bar! It's better to reserve a seat before coming in. There is a long line up at 11:30 during the weekend.

It was just me so I was at the counter (that's bad because you can watch all the YUMMY food being made). Totally recommend this place. The sauce had a kick maybe like ** but not bad. If you get French toast or pancakes you can come to a fruit bar to top your breakfast... They TOTALLY GIVE A DAMN ABOUT QUALITY FOOD!!GET IN HERE.

QUALITY INGREDIENTS/OPTIONS: Lots of options for those with dietary restrictions. They take pride in quality, their slogan is "Eat like you give a damn". Prices and add ons on the high side, but it is Seattle so.HASHBOWL, NOT HASHBROWN: I got a cold brew coffee (its canned! Interesting, pretty smooth) and a hash bowl, and my friend got a drip coffee and the machaca omlette special. Note. Much to my dismay the Hash Bowl does not indicate hash browns, its a bowl of mild (gotta say, kind of limp and luke warm) mixed veggies with egg on top haha. CLOSE QUARTERS: Very full and a bit hard to chat when its prime time on a Sunday. The narrow aisles were difficult for people to maneuver through and I even got (cutely) kicked in the head by a passing baby in arms HAHA.UNDERSTANDABLE RUSH DURING PRIME TIME: The staff seemed in a rush to get us out of there for the next patrons, this might not be the time or place for a leisurely catch up brunch with old friends/fam. We took the hint(s) and had a walk through the nearby Daiso to continue our conversation lol.Based on the price, food, service, space and rush, I wouldn't come again, but for some with dietary restrictions and a reservation, this could be a great option!
Be the first to ReplyI'm addicted to their mushroom biscuits & gravy.
I order through a delivery services. Their biscuits are out of this would. The gravy has oyster mushrooms & fried fresh potatoes. I can't even branch out it's so good. I've ordered it about 10x.Now I must go there. I'm craving it.

Great spot on 65th for brunch! I've literally driven by this probably a 100 times without noticing it. Took my son out for his birthday. He had the Dungeness Crab Cake Benedict which he devoured. I enjoyed the Joe's Scramble (well half of it - it was a very generous portion). I've eaten at their Roosevelt Way location but I think I prefer this one because even though it was quite busy, was quieter. Just a fact of the acoustics of the space I guess. Bethany, our server, was friendly and efficient. Worth a revisit!

My roommates and I visited this establishment for a birthday brunch. Our server was very understanding because our party did not arrive all at once, and we were still seated promptly. The ambience at this location is better than the one on Roosevelt; it's less crowded so good for intimate gatherings and also larger parties. A reservation is key.I ordered the breakfast sandwich and split with a friend. It was perfectly cooked and the jam inside added a lovely depth of flavor. The raspberry mimosa was fantastic as well. Despite the quality of the food, other items on the menu (such as the shakshuka) were not up to par, especially for the price. The potatoes were very simple and not worth the price. However, Portage Bay does market itself as an organic, sustainable restaurant, so if that's important to you than it may be more than worthwhile!

Been coming here for 3 years; I don't know what's happened, but it has deteriorated in almost every way (except ingredients). Servers seem demoralized, condiments are dirty, food comes out lukewarm, bathrooms are not hygienic. It just seems to get a little worse every time.

Oh dear, don't you hate it when a good restaurant goes stale? This morning I ordered my favorite Joe's scramble at Portage Bay on 65th. The eggs tasted great BUT they were served luke warm and the breakfast potatoes were very, very tired. They had dried out and become leathery. Obviously, they had been reheated from some time ago and were a million miles from what they should have tasted like and usually do. Maybe the cooks were having an off day but its a bad sign when easily avoided errors like this happen. Here's to hoping my experience today was an anomaly and not a trend.

I spent the new years morning having breakfast here with my daughters. I tried to make a reservation but somehow the website wasn't really accurate in terms of the seat available because the place looked empty, compared to other days. In any case, I decided to just ask if they have any seats available and was seated and had a nice breakfast. Our server Dallana was very attentive, friendly and just amazing to say the least. The food is average to be honest and a bit overpriced. Overall, if you haven't been there, you should give it a try. Thank you Dallana!
