Our food was delicious and beautifully presented.
The spicy Risotto was a beautiful pale green and seasoned just right for my taste. Our vegetarian guest enjoyed the Cavatelli and pronounced it a dish worth returning for. We all shared the Brussels sprouts, another delicious vegetarian dish. The Burrata was creamy and complemented by the figs and arugula. It was delectable with or without the ham. We had the prosciutto served on the side for the meat eaters. It was a splendid meal. We'll be back.

Be the first to ReplyWe had the pleasure of dining at Portale for the first time
We had the pleasure of dining at Portale for the first time last Sunday evening. EVERYTHING was impressive. the food, the service, and the ambiance were more than anyone could ask for. Our server, Lani, was very knowledgeable about the menu, and made informative comments regarding portion sizes, and flavor combination. Dalia kept the water glasses full, and bussed the table efficiently. We started with the cruddo di tonno, so fresh, and beautifully plated! We shared the appetizer and the primi course, Malfadine. I was pleasantly surprised when they had the courtesy to split the pasta dish in the kitchen, rather than bringing one large serving to the table and having us dish it out (which always seems to get messy). I ordered the Halibut - delicious. My husband loves duck, and orders it whenever he finds it on the menu. He commented that this was the best duck dish that he has ever had. High praise from my husband who doesn't readily give compliments at a restaurant. When we placed our order we asked for suggestion for beverage pairings. Ksenia, the sommelier, was especially helpful, pairing wines that complimented each dish. We finished with the torta di oili - it was so light and refreshing! What a wonderful dining experience!

The atmosphere, service and last bit certainly not least THE FOOD. Your palate will be amazed. Brave to Chef Portale... and see you soon !!!

Food was amazing ! Nice place and great energy ! Cocktails is great too ! My waitress was little rude tho, maybe in a bad mood
Be the first to ReplyCame here for a weekday dinner and it was not up to par.
I got the cavatelli which was a pretty small portion for the price and shared a side of bread. The food felt overpriced as the bill came to almost $50 for the little amount of food. But the most uncomfortable part was that we felt very rushed by the waitstaff and hustled out the second we were done eating. Wouldn't come here again.

I would walk by this spot from the gym and it was always packed, so was excited to finally stop in the other day for dinner! Cute neighborhood Italian vibes - and when I went upstairs to the bathroom, looked like some great private event space too (noted!). I tried the following for dinner: Crudo di Tonno - tuna tartare - I really enjoyed this one! The cucumber base was a great "carrier" for the tuna that wasn't as carb heavy Mafaldine - I don't see Mafaldine in a ton of menus, so I'm always excited to get it when I see it. Even better in this case where it came with lobster! The highlight though was the Calabrian chili - some of the best pasta sauce I've had recently for sure! And I'd definitely come back just for this dish! Olive oil cake - I'm also a sucker for olive oil cake and this one was delicious! Generously sized slice that's perfect for sharing, and I'm not even an ice cream person but that ice cream was to die for. Portale did not disappoint and will certainly be joining my rotation in the neighborhood!

Portale is consistently amazing - spectacular food, gracious service, great vibe. The mafaldine with lobster is one of my favorite dishes on any restaurant menu in New York. The service feels like being in another era with none of the annoying things that modern NYC restaurants do: they check your coat, they happily seat incomplete parties, when you're splitting a dish, they often split it for you onto two separate plates in the kitchen. Such a great addition to the neighborhood, which is otherwise lacking many great restaurants.

A product of Chef Alfred Portale, and it definitely tastes like it. My friend and I had only intended to have a couple drinks and ended up having quite a filling few dishes, best recommended by the staff and close friends of the staff. I was absolutely blown away by the very cool aura of the room, but not too cool that you don't feel the warmth of the pleasant Italian food. Service was absolutely wonderful and everyone was so kind. This would be a perfect place to bring at date for this upcoming Valentine's Day! Special Shoutout to David for making this an amazing first experience. Will be back! *Atmosphere: 10/10 *Food: 9/10 *Service: 10/10 *Price per Person: $70 Must Try Items: *Polpette *Espresso Mezcal Martini

The only reason this place isn't getting 5 stars is because the service could have been better. For a restaurant this upscale, elegant, and pricey, i shouldn't have to wave my waiter over to refill my water several times throughout the night. The table we were at was tucked in the back, and we felt it -- our server hardly ever came over and we knew if we needed something, we would have to wait quite a while. Otherwise, this spot is amazing. We did four courses and all of them were outstanding. We started with the beet salad which was fresh, well balanced and delicious. We moved on to the pasta - we got the mafaldine which was perfectly cooked al dente and the sauce was just divine. The halibut was buttery, melted in your mouth, and the flavors were so interesting and different. The mushrooms that came with the halibut were excellent as well. That was probably my favorite dish. We finished with dessert (not pictured) - olive oil cake. It was good but not as exciting as any of the prior 3 courses. This is a lovely, upscale spot and I would definitely return.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent, fresh and natural food.
The pasta is incredible. Had the lobster mafaldine with Calabrian chili. The best! Fresh seafood and appetizers. Came with a group of people and the service was on point. This place is a 10.

The appetizer bread pancakes are made into a pie shape with olive oil pancakes. We thought they had fillings, but they are not, but they are very fragrant. The main course is roast goose with figs and jam. The taste is amazing. The duck meat is very tender. Those who like duck meat are worth a try. The portion of black rice is quite large
Be the first to ReplyThis place is beautiful and in a great location.
The service was excellent, the waitstaff were extremely attentive. The meatballs were delicious. I got the cappellacci and I found the sauce to be extremely salty, which kind of ruined the dish for me. The bombilini were very good, but I'd prefer a thicker chocolate sauce and warm vanilla sauce to accompany them. I would definitely recommend, if in the area and looking for a great dining option. I personally would try a different entree my next time.

Amazing niche Italian dish Portale Today I rushed to the row's sample sale with my friends. After buying the bill, I was so hungry that I saw this Italian dish across the street. After checking, it was actually a Michelin-recommended restaurant You can walk directly -in but the meal time will be about one and a half hoursAppetizer: Bread pancakes with olive oil, the pancakes are made into a pie shape, we thought there was no filling, but it is very fragrant squash soup is amazing in one bite! There is also yellow peach pulp in it, the taste is also very strong, and it is perfect with bread pancakes Main course: Roast goose with figs and jam, the taste is amazing, the duck meat is very tender, friends who like duck meat are worth a try, and there is a little black rice, the portion is actually quite largeDessert: Hawthorn cheesecake is the kind of light Japanese cheese with super thin hawthorn slices and chocolate chips. The taste is actually amazing

. everyone was so nice and we literally didn't have to ask for anythingThe food was great, everyone got different things and we all enjoyed dinnerThe olive oil cake was so good, like who's grandma is back there making dessert?! It had no business being that good!
Be the first to ReplyI had a good experience dining at Portale with my boyfriend.
The service was quick to the point where we felt rushed. The food (including well done salmon) arrived around 10 minutes after ordering. The drinks were great. The salmon was good, but not amazing. The lumache, however, was incredible. I thought the olive oil cake was way too dry. I would return to Portale exclusively for the incredible lumache.

To start, the restaurant's interior is stunning between the modern details mixed with a homey feel. The staff is quite observant; constantly filling our glasses and well-informed on the entire menu. There were a few dishes they split in half to make it easier for our party of 4 to share. I'm usually a white wine girl but the La Casematte Faro was smooth, mild, and fairly light. It paired well with this entire meal. The Polpette stood out to me the most; well-seasoned, great flavors, and extremely soft. The grilled bread complemented the soft meatballs nicely. Both pasta dishes were delicious - highly recommend! The Cowgirl Steak was incredible. Cooked to a perfect medium, the outside was slightly crisp, and the mashed potatoes were fluffy, light, and went well with the gravy. Unfortunately, the Funghi didn't come out with the Cowgirl Steak so it was less enjoyable alone as a side rather than with this dish. All 3 desserts were well-made and not overly sweet. None stood out to me but it was a nice pallet reset after a savory meal. Great spot for a date, catch up with friends, or work dinner!
Be the first to ReplyWhether it's a special occasion or just a random rumbling
Whether it's a special occasion or just a random rumbling in your stomach and want something to eat and drink, Portale caters to both of those means. I have been multiple times and each time never disappoints. I am doing my best to try everything on the menu and so far everything I have had was cooked and seared to perfection. The truffle pasta was very aromatic and then melted in your mouth. The Squash soups is so savory and warms you up from the bitter cold outside. My last time there I went for the Kale and quinoa salad (because I'm healthy, yea not really.) the dressing complimented the kale and quinoa perfectly. Feels like the salad is creating a dance of flavors in your mouth. There were other dishes as well but it would just be too much to write. The wine list is pretty long ranges from prices of all affordability levels and they're great wines. Cocktails were Balanced, not too much of one spirit over another. The service was great as well even on a busy brisk winters night of the holiday season they still manage to treat everyone (I look at other tables service as well lol) with perfect service. I would say Portale is a well balanced establishment. It is fancy and casual but not that black tie fancy and not too casual. A perfect establishment for anything your heart or perhaps, as I said, your rumbling stomach requires.
Be the first to ReplyHands down my favorite modern Italian restaurant.
Perfect for date night. My fiancรฉ and I even forgot to share our plates because it our pastas were so good and fresh. The olive oil cake is also a must!!
Be the first to ReplyThe food, atmosphere, service are great.
But I'll never go back and I highly recommend not going. When I was leaving the restaurant the coat check girl forgot to give me my headphones and I forgot to ask for them. I spent two days leaving voice messages before someone finally returned my call. I asked when I could go and pick them up and they told me they open at 1pm. I arrived at 130 and met with Chef Jacinto, who greets me by saying "what do you need, I don't have a lot of time". After my shock at being spoken to so rudely (remember I spent upwards of $500.00 for a dinner for four) he continues to be disrespectful and tell me he can't help me. Let's just say this: he helped me and I got my headphones. They love you when you're at their dinner table but when you're not, they despise you. Totally awful, untenable, and unacceptable scene. I'll never return nor will I recommend this place. Chef Jacinto may be a great chef but he's a miserable human being. And remember this: it's always fromThe top down in any business. So I not only blame him for this unpleasantness, but I blame the owners as well.

Our group of 5 had a superb meal with copious amounts of pasta , seafood and dessert options . While overall everything was tasty some pastas were not as Al dente as I would have liked and a couple of sauces felt a bit muted/flat in flavor. Desserts were stand outs!

Wow! This is the place to go if you actually want to hear the conversation. What an 5 star experience. Fantastic, hip venue. Stellar service. Went with the gf and got a corner table. Volume and vibe were fantastic. Bread through dessert was phenomenal. We got the kale and seafood salads to start. Then had the salmon and duck. Presentation on everything was as thoughtful as the art work. Also
Be the first to ReplyPortale runs a true first-class restaurant.
I hosted a business dinner with three Board members and found the evening to be an excellent experience. Service was outstanding, our meals were wonderful, and we very much enjoyed the wine selections their staff helped us choose. My guests enjoyed the evening immensely.
Be the first to ReplyLove this place.
It's obviously a step up in terms of quality and price. They care a lot about the little things. The atmosphere is also very nice. The white truffle bolognese is great and so is their fish.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a great dining experience at Portale.
Above and beyond hospitality from the moment you step into this intimate restaurant. Very welcoming staff! The kitchen was great at accommodating my friend with dietary restrictions. We started with the ricotta meatballs that seemed to be the highlight of the night. Make sure to order them! I recommend sharing all the dishes you order. We ordered all of their "Primi" pasta dishes to share. Portions are small for the price, so prepare to savor each and every bite. I enjoyed some of the dishes more than others, but all were very refined and quite tasty! We also ordered the branzino, which was forgettable. Stick to their pasta.
