Very good
Casual, chic smart place. Great food. You can eat tapas style, share, try many things. Will be back.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic Cuisine In a Casual Chic Setting
The restaurant is in a great location. There's lots of easy parking nearby, and the street is vibrant without being busy. They have a number of outdoor dining tables - all pleasant even if on an active sidewalk. The inside is understated and casually elegant. Both make for a comfortable dinner.
The cuisine is excellent. Each dish is inventive, interesting, and impeccably crafted. Most importantly, the food is delicious. The presentation is also creative and sometimes can verge on oddly whimsical. They have an impressive wine list and their cocktails have the same creative passion that inspires their food. The menu changes seasonally so the awesome Crab & Caviar will likely be gone soon, but something equally wonderful will replace it.
The service is efficient and staff is clearly well trained, but their guest interaction comes off being perfunctory and bureaucratic. They do the correct things, but their timing is off. They are helpful, but aloof, and their commentary is canned. Whoever manages the 'front of house' needs to inspire some interest and passion that'll match what the kitchen produces.
With the wooden service aside, the evening was enjoyable, the food was delicious, the wine and drinks were on the mark. Protege is certainly a worthy dinner destination.
Go if you can - wonderful!
Amazing dinner that lived up to billing. Particularly fabulous: the mushroom soup, the octopus with romanesco sauce, the pork chop (best EVER) and the delicious homemade icecreams. Ate a la carte - want to go back for the 7 course tasting menu!

Our dinner at Protege was exceptional from beginning to end. We started at the bar as we waited for another guest. The couple next to us had the oysters and the “fish and chips”......the dishes were little works of art....so creatively presented.
We all ordered the mushroom soup and the brick chicken. It was THE BEST mushroom soup ever! The Brick chicken was a minor masterpiece! The food was superb and the gracious efficient service matched the level of the menu items......just a happy and delicious experience.
We only regret that we live so far away and cannot have another meal like this for a long time.
A very special Christmas present
Our son and daughter-in-law took us to Protege for dinner after Christmas. What a delightful evening! We ate in the bar and ordered a little bit of everything. There wasn't one dish that disappointed. This is one of my son's favorite restaurants and I can see why. The flavors, presentation and service were all remarkable and made for a memorable and one-of-a-kind dining experience. I was worried that the restaurant would be formal and stuffy, but it was relaxed and welcoming. The only "bummer" was that I filled up before dessert. I guess that means I'll have to go back! :-D

Our group shared different menu items and everything was delicious. We shared six different deserts and that topped off our great meal experience.

The experience was absolutely amazing
The atmosphere was mellow and elegant. service was perfect and flawless.
We had 4 course menu was amazing! The truffle lasagna was out of this world. I really love that at the end of the meal they give you a beautiful wrapped cookie to take away with you .. Can't wait to see what's to come next for this beautiful restaurant. A must try. !
Outstanding
Fabulous meal, the grandkids enjoyed it too.
Wonderful wine selection, but the food was the reason for five stars. Will go again
Perfection! Michelin Star Well Deserved
We have eaten here twice, each time a different setting.
The first the lovely tasting meal.
The second ala carte in the front of the restaurant.
The pork chop to die for!
The tasting menu just the right amount of food with some surprises thrown.
The staff from all of the top restaurants in No California is wonderful, five star service to go along with beautifully presented and prepared fresh food.
The corkage is high.
We look forward to our third visit soon.
Wonderful food though pricey
Three of us went for the tasting menu. Seated at 5 pm, left at 8. Amuse bouches and foods were tasty treats. Interestingly, tasting menu participants are in dining room and a la carte people are elsewhere. After initial confusion about my dietary issues (waiter apparently not clued in, though chef was on top of it), service was quite good. An array of wines accompanied the meal; main courses included some choice. Yes, we would go back and recommend it to others.

I have been wanting to go to this new place for almost a year and finally made it. They have a Tasting Menu with 4 courses at one side of the restaurant that seats about 20. On the other side is a more casual a la Carte menu, and fairly large bar in between. We opted for the tasting menu which took almost 2.5 hours. I had brought along a 2009 Colvin Tychson Hill Cabernet which they charged a $75 corkage for which I thought was a bit steep. We started with a amouse Bouche that was a Cameron I stuff with smoked fish paste, followed by a Hamachi. The second course was a lobster tail, followed by a 7 layer lasagna which a bit more than bites sized but very rich and they offered a shaving of truffle for $30 , followed by Romesco Crusted lamb loin which was very tender and tasty. Dessert was a choice of Black Forest Gateau which is what we opted for or selections from their cheese cart with jam nuts and honey. We made the mistake of digging into their freshly prepared bread and butter before the dinner and as a result were quite stuffed towards the end
We will go again to try the a la carte side of this new restaurant
