Pujol Ciudad de México Reviews from The Last Year
Good, but not great
Renowned as the best Mexican restaurant, we had very high expectations despite its decline in theworlds50best. The first thing we notice is the beauty of the restaurant. Very chic and refined, we fell in love with the outdoor terrace in the evening. The service is impeccable and worthy of this type of restaurant. As for the food, we loved the Rock Fish pistachio mole, the soursop citrus mousse dessert and the egg in the first course. Their famous smoked corn and ant dish is also very interesting. The braised lamb is good, but nothing more. The classic Mole aged 3400 days, probably good, but I'm not a fan of mole. In the finals, we ate very well, but for a restaurant of this reputation, I expected a lot more. For a former top 10, it's rather disappointing. For the wines, we took the pairings. Very disappointed, only white wines, no red, even for the braised lamb. Not convinced by the pairings and for the price, it's really not worth it, it doesn't add anything to the experience. In the end, yes, it's a very good restaurant, we had a great evening, but at this price ($2400 CAD for 4), we are far from the experiences of several theworlds50best.
Have a culinary experience to remember
Pujol is tucked away in a very shiek part of Mexico City. The atmosphere is calm and sophisticated. I sat at the Taco bar area( for lack of a better term ) watching the mixologist work their magic was flawless. The staff are there to make sure your every need is taken care of. The food started coming and one after another course seemed tobe better than the one before. I had the wine paring and it was spot on every wine was delicious and from Mexico. This restaurant is not for those on a budget but if you have the means please go have yourself a culinary experience
Amazing food and service
Dining at Pujol was a highlight of my trip to Mexico City. I was meeting a friend for dinner, who was running late, so the waiter brought over some books about how the restaurant started after I mentioned my love of cooking. It was very thoughtful to share the history of the establishment. The food and cocktails were incredible, perfectly paced courses. We also never felt rushed, but you move outdoors for dessert which was a nice change of scenery. They even let us peak in the kitchen to see how the kitchen runs which was amazing.
Worth the Visit - But Not the Michelin Stars
Pujol has long been a darling of restaurant reviews and recently earned two coveted stars in the June 2024 Michelin Guide. It doesn’t deserve them. To be clear, the food was very good, the service was good, and the atmosphere was very good; maybe even excellent in the atmosphere although this is a crowded place. However, how the food rates two stars simply escapes me. My wife and I eat in Michelin restaurants all over the world. I confess our tastes are discriminating, if not demanding. So with its stellar reputation and recent two star award we expected something you can’t get anywhere else - except at the highest level that this is supposed to be. We did not find that the case. As to the food it was surely well done but the marriage of amazing textures and flavors that I have come to expect at this level - that idea that your sense of taste is awakened by flavors and textures etc., that you never experienced or didn’t think could come together to form what what you are experiencing- was definitely not there. Some dishes were better than others. Nothing was amazing. That’s just the reality. Presentation was also simply lackluster at this level. I have seen presentation that is mind blowing at high level restaurants. I have enclosed photos of some of the dishes. Does this seem like two-star presentation to you? You decide. As to service, service overall did not meet any Michelin level. This is not to say that our waiter was not dedicated and helpful. But at this level a fully functional team is required to deliver exceptional service and they are simply overloaded by the abundance of tables being hosted at once. We were on course three when we asked the server to actually bring us a menu, they having forgot at the outset; we never saw one in advance of ordering. One dish arrived without the sauce where we had to wait for it to be delivered a few minutes later. That’s not a sin in restaurant service. But with two Michelin stars, it is. This is a very good restaurant. You should go. The price is abundantly fair. So there’s no reason to miss this destination place. However, if you have experience with Michelin restaurants you may find yourself doing a little head scratching from being a bit perplexed if not outright disappointed.
Highly over rated. Noisy restaurant.
Very noisy Michelin star restaurant. Waiters walking ans running around. Unpleasant restaurant to chill and relax. Highly over rated. Bill took 30 minutes to arrive and staff are rude. There are better Michelin star restaurants out there.
The restaurant which brought Mexican cuisine to the world food scene
This is one of our reasons for visiting Mexico City and we were not disappointed. Five stars for successfully blending tradition and innovation. Ingredients indigenous to Mexico were used and presented in a modern and creative way but nothing too abstract or pretentious. Just solid delicious food. While not all the dishes were exceptional, you can see and taste the work that came with each dish. Outstanding were the smoky baby corn starters with chicatana ants, the tlayuda (open-faced tortilla) with aged sheep cheese, truffles and ayocote and of course the nuevo and madre mole (3,335 days). While simply presented, the layers of flavors of the mole (sweet, tart, nutty, smoky, herbaceous, minty) underlie the laborious process of mixing more than 2 dozen ingredients to produce this symbol of Mexican heritage and gastronomy. We were invited to have our dessert in their outdoor patio. At first, I was disappointed the dessert was not its famous churros, but the refreshing soursop mousse was one of the uniquely memorable desserts I’ve ever had. To top off our wonderful meal, we were presented with their heavenly version of the concha with our coffee. The pricing (without wine pairing) is very reasonable, about half for similarly-rated restaurants in NYC and Europe. If you are expecting the Mexican food you have in the US, you will be disappointed. This is authentic Mexican food, very different from the one-note Tex-Mex we have here.
Pujol lives up to its top 50 rating
Pujol is a great choice for fine dining. There are three different menus depending on where you eat. I ate at the bar for the savory courses and then they moved me to the terrace for the sweet courses. The service was excellent as was the food. The meal was much more tilted to seafood than meat. If there is something you do not want or have an allergy, they will gladly change items on the set menu to accommodate you. Definitely worth a stop if you are in Mexico City.
Product doesn’t match the price
This restaurant is very classy and the staff are amazing. The food was better than average, but I felt like it fell far from the incredibly high price. I’m fortunate to be able to eat at many top rated restaurants around the world. This one, at nearly the equivalent of $450 (USD) per person out the door, has been among the most expensive meals I’ve had. I don’t usually mind paying for exceptional food, wine, and service, but I didn’t feel like this experience really delivered at its price point. It seemed like they were sort of trying to be a French Laundry kind of experience, but they haven’t nailed it. It took 3-1/3 hours for us to get through this experience. There were very long wait times between the small portions of the meal. Our table conversation commonly went to wondering what the backup could be in the kitchen. Our group got back to the hotel very late, which caused us to all have a rough morning the following day trying to keep the rest of our schedule on time. We were a group of 8 patrons. Our out the door total was nearly $3,600 (USD) or $61,000 (MX). For this price we should have had at least one, but probably two dedicated servers for our table. Instead, our servers were serving several tables and our wait times between courses and refills were very lengthy. Of the several courses of the meal, there were only two that were really good. Everyone in my group are very well traveled and appreciate a wide array of cuisines and most of our dishes left our table not completely eaten because the food was mediocre. There was no part of this experience that would make me suggest this restaurant to anybody. Conversely, I would encourage people to try other options that may be significantly cheaper and provide a much better culinary experience.
Literally so underwhelming, stupidly expensive, strange food with no course that stood out , service was fine
I waited for years to get a table and was shocked as friends took me who are real foodies and they were underwhelmed to put it mildly, overpriced and ordinary
Great restaurant to visit just once
Culinary experience that blends ancient techniques with modern gastronomy. Six delicious courses but a little overpriced in my opinion.
Mediocre food/experience. Stunning ambiance
My husband and I had this on our much anticipated visit to Mexico City and used it as our destination for our 10 year anniversary dinner We arrived and were welcomed warmly and brought to our table. The menu presentation and explanation was beautiful. From there, things just seemed a bit off. The service was hit or miss. Instead of being served in tandem from a specific side, we were served at random without explanation of the food until several minutes after food was dropped. The servers also seemed to be in a small argument over it but of the 6 courses 3 of them were served at different times from different sides by one person vs two. Seems particular but for a $700 usd meal I was hoping for perfect service execution. Next, the food. Here is where i wished for more as it wasn’t especially unique or outstanding (excluding the snacks, ceviche and dessert which were standouts). Snacks = fascinating tostada, mushroom soup and smoked corn. The snacks served were delicious, interesting presentation and complex mix of flavors. From there it went downhill. 1st course = snacks 2nd = scallop ceviche. This was varied and layered. Incredible melt in your mouth scallops. 3rd = tostada of some sort. Good, not great. The ahi tostada at Contramar blew this out of the water. 4th = rock fish with green sauce and fava beans. Fine, not bad. Nothing to write about. 5th = stuffed cabbage leaf and octopus. No real flavor. Bland and slightly overcooked. 6th = mole. The story of it being cooked 3364+ days is interesting however a plate with mole sauce only was really lacking. I wished for more. Dessert was a delicious cream, sorbet. Well balanced, interesting textures. Overall, not worth the hype. I wish I saved the money and went to Quintonil instead.
Wonderful
Incredible experience. Expensive but the food and service made it worthwhile. Every course was interesting and fantastic. Wish we could give it more than 5 stars.
Less impressive and twice as expensive
We had dinner here back in 2019 and were very impressed. Being back in Mexico City, we wanted to visit again. This time, we were less impressed. All of the dishes we liked were ones we had previously had. The new dishes were...bland. The waiters were constantly taking the drink menus away, and we'd have to ask for them again to order something, which was somewhat annoying. I guess the priority was to keep the table clear. Anyway, this was nearly twice as expensive as our visit in 2019. We are probably done with Pujol, unfortunately. We have had our experience there, and will focus more on mid-range, more casual, dining next time.
Doesn’t disappoint!
Amazing service and stunning food!!!
Great anniversary dinner - and accommodating of a vegan diner!
This was my second time to Pujol and it was just as perfect as the first. This time I came for my anniversary. I'm a foodie, and my partner is vegan. It's always a challenge to see which fine-dining restaurants will adapt for a vegan diet. I'm happy to report Pujol went above and beyond to accommodate him. We did the bar seating, and they printed him a custom menu and ensured the level of dietary restrictions and reminded him of ingredients along the way - which was very appreciated because he is severely lactose intolerant. Also the famous mole is vegan - who knew?! I ate all the delicious meat and fish dishes, and we just had a great time, and they kindly celebrated our anniversary with them. I strongly recommend the drink pairing. I had a Mexican saki that I still think of near daily!!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res

Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
