Disappointed
After reading good reviews we booked online for a Sunday lunch before going to a show at the utillta. We turned up on time and all looked good. We were shown to a table and had to wait quite some time to order some drinks. To start my wife had empanadas which she enjoyed I had chorizo which was OK. We both had beef for mains which arrived before the starters had been cleared away, we were then left with no cutlery to eat with and it took some time to be able to get someones attention to sort it out. The beef was tasty though. On to dessert wife had the cheese and again that was good. I ordered only to be told after 10 mins that they had run out. So I switched to churros. When the desserts arrived they put some sort of chocolate cake in front of me when I pointed out that it wasn't what I ordered he dismissively said I had changed as they were out of my first choice and went to leave. After explaining I had changed to churros he eventually went to change it. When did turn up it was terrible, over cooked and tasteless I left most of it, most unusual for me. For me the service was poor (with a 10% service charge added on to the bill for the plessure)and on the whole I found it disappointing.

We were looked after by Nickolay, who was welcoming, professional yet friendly and extremely helpful and humorous. The food was simply stunning as was the atmosphere and service.

Just had a lovely meal, but wanted to give a special shout-out to Barbra who was absolutely wonderful! Made a lovely meal into a fantastic one ☺️
Be the first to ReplyFabulous food & service
Me and my partner visited today for a Sunday roast dinner. The service was amazing and the food was incredible! Well worth the money, the staff were so attentive and friendly, they couldn’t of done enough for us. Thank you so much to the waiting staff for always making our dining experience extra special. Pulperia is still our favourite place to eat out!
Be the first to ReplyTop notch great variety
Went here with my not so little 5 Yr old steak muncher. Had an amazing meal. Finnish retired dairy cow was sooo tasty. My boys fillet was on point too. Made to feel very welcome and service was spot on

Interior design - flawless - absolutely loved the decor - lighting is absolutely on point and I would probably just go there and sit in the bar and drink wine because the wine list is very good. The food on the other hand...steak tartare was dripping in some 'smoked oil', far too much grain mustard and overall just not nice. Chorizo was good but you cant really go wrong there...bread was yummy, butter lacked sea salt, in fact I've made better at home. Steak was fine, fries were fine...it was fine. I don't think I would go back for food, as mentioned above the wine list was really the only thing that I enjoyed.

Visited this restaurant with a friend on Sunday and we had such a lovely time. The service, food, surroundings and drinks were beautiful! Our fillet steaks were cooked to perfection and the portions were generous - the only problem we had was deciding what to pick from the menu! Jessica was our server on the night and she was engaging, friendly and professional. We genuinely enjoyed all our exchanges with her and you could tell she took pride in her work and strove for perfection. Jessica knew it was our first visit to Pulperia and she went above and beyond to ensure it was wonderful - thank you so much! I can’t wait to come back!
Be the first to ReplyGreat service shame about the pis poor steak
Firstly, we booked this restaurant for my mrs 33rd birthday, the table situation is squashed to say the least and when your as funny as me obviously everyone listens into the conversations haha. service was fantastic and the waitress was very attentive and outgoing. The Pinot noir red wine was beautiful however the 1kg porterhouse house steak for 75 pound was the worst I’ve ever eaten and that’s no exaggeration the fat was so hard and stale like a cheap pork rind. Out of the 1kg about 200 micro grams was edible!! Total bill was 180 pound and that was for the main and a bottle of red wine, would not return much better steak houses out there for the money. Picture attached to see how much edible meat is on this catastrophic steak

We decided to try here for a special occasion and we absolutely weren't disappointed. The staff were very friendly and accommodating on arrival. We ordered a few starters to have as a tapas (gambas, chorizo and ensalada) and frankly all three were exceptional! To follow the three of us shared the galician prime rib which was supposed to be for two, however with a few sides there was easily enough for three. The steak and the sides (carrots and wild mushrooms) were exquisite. Drinks choice was great, they offered to make any non-menu cocktail. I challenged them to a Singapore Sling and I was not dissapointed! Very friendly and engaging staff and a nice quiet atmosphere. Overall a wonderful fine dining experience and we shall absolutely be returning!
Be the first to ReplyPorterhouse wasn’t great
Visited today and ordered the the most expensive steak, the porthouse at £75. The steak came out and looked great but the sirloin part was so fatty and chewy. It was horrible. The peppercorn sauce was thin like water and the chimichurri was just oily and disgusting. The sides weren’t great either, the spinach was nice but the mustard onions were horrible. I finished my first beer was waiting and looking around to get another but the service was appalling, and I was overlooked. The bathrooms weren’t great either. I expect almost perfection when visiting this type of establishment. Overall I’d rather take my money elsewhere. Poor and I expected much better.

Came for Father’s Day meal with wife and two kids (10,14) and from start to finish was an outstanding experience. Lovely welcome, very generous portions and brilliantly cooked food. Good wine list and very attentive staff, the end bill was great value for what we received. Will definitely be back

First time at Pulperia and certainly not our last. Great surroundings, lovely friendly staff and a great menu with something for every taste and every budget. We had a lovely long lunch on a Saturday afternoon and the food was excellent. I started with the Tartare which was superb and followed it with an Argentine Sirloin; it too was excellent. Wine choice was good and not too expensive for a restaurant of this quality. Overall, excellent addition to the Birmingham food offering.
Be the first to ReplyWe have never felt so welcome. It was an extraordinary experience and we encourage everyone to visit.
My mum and I live at opposite ends of the country, as a treat we decided to have a mini break in the middle. Birmingham exceeded all our expectations. The highlight of our trip was this restaurant, from the moment we walked in we were made to feel special in such a genuine way that my Mum was left wondering if they had mistook us for someone important! The food, the decor, the wine, the atmosphere, all fantastic, but what made our experience memorable was each and every one of the exceptional people working hard to make our evening special. From my extensive Google research there are many exciting restaurants in Birmingham to choose from. All I can say is, you won’t be disappointed if you choose this one, it’s brilliant.

Great food. Nicely presented. Lovely atmosphere
Not cheap but definitely value for money
Had prawn/ chorizo starters then steaks for main
Nice bottle of Pinot and some Peruvian beers washed it down
Service was class. Not intrusive but really professional
Nottingham where we live is crying out for something like this
Highly recommend. Well done to all
Expected more from this place
Beautiful restaurant. Overall experience was good. We didn’t have a booking but the receptionist was nice and very polite. Unfortunately around 4 different people came to our table to take our order within 3 mins… The only thing we didn’t enjoy was the sirloin, even though it was medium rare, it was very chewy so I didn’t really eat it. I’m not sure if it was the manager but he took our email regarding the feedback about the steak, something that is appreciated!
EDIT 29/04/2022 - No one contacted me, so I’m lowering the score.
Excellent Sunday lunch
Enjoyed excellent roast beef lunch today. Apart from the beef which really goes without saying the accompanying vegetables were quite special. Service was refreshingly good as staff were attentive and well organised. Would definitely go again.
Be the first to ReplyShocking customer service
I had a ribeye steak which I always order if I’m having steak and being open minded that it can have grisly bits.. but I could not even cut through the steak and left most of it, when I mentioned this to the waitress she took the steak back into the kitchen and told me that she and the chef glided the knife through the steak without a problem and it’s must of been a grisly part that I was trying to cut through.. which I was most shocked about as I certainly could not cut through it… so I ask if she could bring it back out so I could show her… she then told me it was already in the bin and that basically I was making it up and she wasn’t prepared to fish it out of the bin, which I understand that and would not expect her to do that but I was made to feel like I was making it up. My husband had the same and his steak was absolutely fine but the customer service was absolutely shocking and not dealt in a professional way at all… When I then mentioned that I will write a review about this… I was then told by the waitress in a very patronising way “ you do that!!! “
I would most definitely never be returning back to this restaurant again purely on how I was made to feel as a customer.
Wow Wow Wow
I went to this restaurant last night Friday 18th March for my daughter’s birthday. Beautiful restaurant not overly full, attentive staff and extremely friendly. I have been to other steak restaurants in Birmingham but honestly this one, the starters Beautiful but OH BOY, the quality of the steaks and cooked to perfection amazing, I actually felt emotional, my only critique is the chicken, the portion size could be a little more generous for the price, that being said no hesitation we’ll be back to celebrate another birthday in June.

Came here with my boyfriend last night for our anniversary meal.. all we can say was wow, food was amazing! So tasty! Our waitress Courtney was very attentive and gave some good suggestions on what to have to eat. Would definitely be coming back here
Be the first to ReplySome good points, but left disappointed
Our quest for good steak around the UK continues… and it’s often hit and miss.
The setting and ambience of the restaurant is very good and we received a friendly welcome. The staff were very efficient and attentive without being over the top.
We had a couple of glasses of very good Brazilian sparkling rosé (in the most gorgeous champagne flutes you could find) as we checked out the menu. We had already looked online and had an idea of what we wanted to try. Disappointingly our starter of choice (the bone marrow) was not available, and then our steak of choice (the Chateaubriand) was also unavailable. I can understand why staff don’t want to highlight items that are not available when giving you the menu, but it really would be better to advise customers if there are key items missing before they spend time making their choice. I imagine they gamble that you won’t order the missing items!
Our second choices of starters were octopus and chorizo. The octopus was a little tougher than expected and the smokey flavour was interesting and welcome but a little over-powering. The chorizo was delicious.
We shared a £75 Porterhouse steak. It was nicely presented and cooked medium rare as requested. Some of it was very good and tender, but sadly much of it was not as good as we were hoping. The heritage carrots on the side were nicely done. We had a decent bottle of red… we had originally chosen a £32 bottle of Argentinian Malbec but was persuaded to upgrade to a £35 bottle for something more special. It accompanied the steak well, although it was disappointing to see the average price of a bottle at less than £5.50 on the Vivino app! I know there’s a large mark up on restaurant wine, but 7 times more than what you can buy it for in the shops?!
We didn’t have dessert.
We told the waiter of our disappointment over the steak and to his credit he apologised and took the cost of our glasses of sparkling wine off the bill which we appreciated. There was a lovely couple sitting next to us who also complained about their sirloin. Maybe it was just an off night for the restaurant but at these prices you don’t want to leave underwhelmed.
Just exceptional....
Had an absolutely perfect evening here. The service was top class, the food and wine were perfection. Everything was just exceptional. Would highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing steak!
Came here for dinner on Friday and really enjoyed it. After reading some of the negative reviews I was bit dubious but I had heard good things so wanted to see for myself and I'm so glad we did! It was one of the best meals I've had in a long time.
I ordered a glass of Sauvignon which was delicious, so much so I've googled it to try and see where I can get a bottle, with success. My fiancé ordered octopus which was different and I had the chorizo which was really tasty and the perfect portion size. Onto the steaks and I ordered a fillet (rare) and then my partner had the chateaubriand (medium rare) Both were cooked to perfection and it was so flavoursome. The chips were tasty and so was the bone marrow and Malbec sauce. I ate every last bite.
On top of this, the service was great. They were attentive, really polite and friendly as well as being quite quick considering some of the other reviews and the fact it was 7:30pm on a Friday. All in all we had an amazing time and I cannot wait to go back. The decor is stunning and it's in a great spot to go for a few drinks afterwards. It's my new favourite place for a steak.
If you like steak you should definitely visit this place.
Good restaurant, a couple of things to improve
Great restaurant. The food was good, the service as well when you got hold of them. It has potential but we had a couple issues with an overcooked steak and onenof starters wasn't as described on the menu.
