R40 is a sexy, intimate Argentinian restaurant located in Queens. This is a great special occasion or date spot with an open kitchen. Out waitress was super friendly, gave great suggestions, and was able to help us make substitutions on the menu. For a Michelin star restaurant, I definitely expected a *little* more attention with the service (ie refilling water, clearing the plates)Housemade Focaccia: this was probably one of the best focaccias I've had. It's hard to make focaccia light and airy, but F40 did not disappoint. The crust was light and crusty, while the inside was soft and fluffy. It didn't feel too heavy from the olive oil either. I was delighted that it had a pop of sweet from blueberries and grapes baked on the top.Paradilla for Two: we ordered this and shared it among three people, and STILL had leftovers! We subbed out the blood sausage and sweet bread for extra short ribs and chorizo. The short ribs were definitely the star of the show- cooked to perfection, seasoned perfectly, and elevated with the homemade chimichurri sauce. The chicken was so tender it fell off of the bone and the chorizo was soft and Smokey. Would definitely order again. Chicken Milanesa: basically reminded me of a chicken parm. This was a HUGE serving of schnitzel-style chicken that could definitely be shared amongst three or four people. Clarito Cosmo: a delicious cosmo! No complaints.

Nice Argentinean steakhouse in LIC with a large selection of Malbec wines. Booking a reservation online was easy and we were promptly seated upon arrival by very friendly staff. The skirt steaks were surprisingly very pricey for the type of meat cut ($55 each) but they were delicious and came with a side of baby bok choy and potatoes sitting atop a tasty puree. Also ordered a bottle of heavy bodied Malbec ($72) which paired nicely with the steaks. Overall, I really like this restaurant and I'm glad to have it in LIC... Just wish that they either (A) upped the type of meat cut for that price (e.g. you can get a Prime NY Sirloin at Keen's for $62) or (B) lowered their price for a simple skirt steak.

Calling all Locals!!!! This has got to be one of my favorite spots in LIC. The food here is SO good. The ambiance is modern yet warm and the team here is just superb. Everyone is a gem and the manager, Miguel makes you feel at home. I apologize for not remembering my waiters name but he was spectacular. If you're dinning for two then get the Parrillada so u can try all the amazing meats they have to offer ($105) we also had their empanada basket and omg I wish I ordered one to go! The fries were also delicious. I was so full that I didn't get to order some of their pastas but I'll be back!!!

A top-notch and marvelous meal was had by ME last night at R40. I asked for sweetbreads as an appetizer because I saw that they were offered in the grilled meat combination but not anywhere else on the menu. Chef said, YES! The sweetbreads were incredibly tasty with chimichurri and served on top of some wood-fired bread delivered straight from heaven! We got the house made focaccia (served only Friday and Saturday) which was nice and crispy on the outside and nice and chewy on the inside. My date got Gnolotti (kind of like mini ravioli) with butternut squash, brown butter, sage, hazelnut and the pasta dish was a perfect combination of sweet and savory. I got the NY Strip and it blew my mind. A steak cooked over a wood fire perfectly rare and smokey and, well, the steak was superb. The entire night, in fact, was marvelous start to finish. Thanks R40! You made this birthday boy very happy.

i was very dissapointed with this place i took my girlfriend to this place to have argentinan barbecue first we ordered an appetizer of empenadas they bring us 1 empenada which was ridiculous, then we ordered a mixed grill for 2 and they bring us a plate of only a few different meats small portion, it was 65 dollars it wasnt even a mixed grill for 1 person. other argentinan places like La fusta and boca juniors they bring a small grill with loads of meat on it and its a cheaper price. i advise anyone who wants to go to an argentinan restaraunt not to go to this place its a total ripoff

I never do reviews but for this restaurant I feel like I should . The dry aged ribeye was the best steak I've ever had (not exaggerating). From the wine to the service and everything about - this restaurant was phenomenal !

My husband and I live in the neighborhood and have had this place on our list for a while. We finally got there and it did not disappoint. The wood fired focaccia was to die for and reminded me of my childhood. The meat was cooked perfectly and we split the platter for 2. The team at R40 looked happy which feeds into their level of service and is rare to find now. Highly recommended for a date night!

R40 Argentine restaurantIt's our new year meal, so we decided to try a place that we have walked pass many time, but never had a chance to try. Because they open for dinner only, and brunch for Friday - Sunday. Here we are R40.First, Argentine cuisine? What could it be? I asked myself. So I let my roommate; AKA dietary supervisor taking care of that. I just do the thing that I can do the best, AKA EAT.We started a night with PAPAS PROVENZAL; Homemade fries with garlic & parsley. I'd say this fries were very unique. Splash of parsley with a detailed chopped garlic and homemade fried potatoes. This was a killer and surely good start up for the dinner.Second, ARROZ NEGRO, squid ink rice, grilled prawn, 4 pcs of calamari. This one was ok. One thing I noticed was the fishy taste from squid ink rice. It can be covered with a drop of lemon but don't over do it. Otherwise, you will ruin the fishy taste from squid ink. I'd recommended this one but $24 compare to the portion... Let me think again.Third, SEARED PROVOLETA, looks like a tiny crispy pizza with tomato sauce, and baguette on top. It's very tasty but too much oil on the bottom, it's like a fried pizza to me. And the highlight of tonight, TA-DA! N.Y. Strip, it's huge, gigantic suit to be the killer of the day! Medium rare, on the hot plate. Overall, this one was very good, 30 day dried-aged Strip size. It's a must. My dietary supervisor said, this strip was even better than the most popular steak house in Brooklyn, You know what I'm talking about. It came with a grilled squash on the side. However, in my opinion they splashed too much salt. I've felt it's too salty for me. But this one may depend on each preferences. Moreover, Server and staffs were very attentive, and friendly. I'd say I like this place and definitely come back again whenever I have a chance. First time and I had a really good experienceTasty food, good ambiance, pleasant employees!
Be the first to ReplyI made reservations on open table for 8 pm this Sat.
2 hours or so before I called to double check they received my reservation. The man who answered the phone was incredibly rude and immediately put me on hold. I eventually gave up, hung up and then tried to call for 30 mins. Finally the same guy answered and he immediately put me back on hold forever. I cancelled my reservation and went to Maiella. I won't be darkening R40's door ever again.

I'm not sure why they have such high reviews as was a bit pricey. The service wasn't as great as I hoped it would be for what one has to pay. They need to hire more servers to help out. My suggestion is to make reservations before going there as they don't typically have room for walk-ins except for at the bar.Unto the food that I ordered were the Crispy Pork Belly - not enough Pork Belly but it was very flavorful. It came in zesty Brussel Sprouts Slaw, Chicharron, Pickled Green Apples, Caraway Seeds, and Celery Root Puree. Ordered the 16oz, 30 day dry aged NY Strip Steak which wasn't that great especially for the price that you pay. On the side got the Papas Provenzal which are French fries, Parmesan, Garlic and Parsley. The sauce on the side was really good which was garlic butter. Last but not least was the dessert which was the Matcha Panna Cotta - it's Coconut Cake, Passion Fruit & Yuzu Curd, and Toasted Merengue. The dessert was amazing!! It was savory and sweet.
Be the first to ReplyHands down of the best restaurants in LIC.
Visually you can see that the restaurant was designed with purpose and great detail. It is beautifully designed. The menu is very tasteful and lots of good variety. The only reason I would I wouldn't give it a 5 is two small instances:(1) the bussers were too aggressive. Would pick up any plate and utensil before we'd be fully done with our appetizer and main meal. (2) we got a very small pour for our glasses of wine. When you're paying $15 and above for a glass of wine you'd expect a decent pour. When looking at other tables glasses of wine they had double the amount of wine poured. So, that was disappointing. Aside from those two small things that are easily fixed, I think the restaurant is really great and would definitely come back.
Be the first to ReplyNever tried "Argentinian" fusion before, and R40 is a great
Never tried "Argentinian" fusion before, and R40 is a great spot to try for the first time. Between two people, we ordered quite a lot: duck confit empanada, arroz negro, housemade foccacia, endive salad, baked clams and crispy pork belly. Everything was absolutely delicious - my personal favourite was the arroz negro. I loved how pronounced the lemon flavouring was even though you just squeeze a bit of it on top, which complemented the whole dish. Another highlight was the crispy pork belly - it didn't feel extremely fatty so it wasn't overwhelming after a lot of it. The celery root puree was the best! Pickled green apples paired with it was such a nice touch because it took away from the heaviness of the pork. It seems that almost every table ordered the empanadas, which were great, though I would also say that they are just as good elsewhere for half the price. Overall, great meal, especially having been able to try quite a lot of items on the menu. I would recommend that the waitstaff have a bit more patience with us, since towards the end of our meal we were being rushed and my friend's unfinished dish was taken away before we got a chance to say she was still working on it.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely incredible.
Not enough great things to say- food, a bit pricey but SO worth it for a date night or special occasion. Host was great, service was fast and excellent. Will be back!!!
Be the first to ReplyI don't know why any rating here is not 5 stars.
Amazing steak, sausage, chicken, sweetbread, and especially good empandas and wine. You won't leave disappointed. Generous portion size too for the price range.
Be the first to ReplyIf you read nothing else: get the Panna Cotta if it means
If you read nothing else: get the Panna Cotta if it means you need to doggy bag something. Trust me. Also, a disclaimer: I have higher-than-average salt sensitivity. You know what I really like about R40? Their meals and plates are very thoughtfully executed and composed. The accompaniments to the dishes offer various complementary flavors and textures (in perfect proportions, too) that round out and balance the dish. Pork Belly - The pork belly itself was flavorful, savory, and and cooked nicely! However, I found it just a tiny bit chewy (forgivable with pork) and a rather salty. This was served on a bed of brussels sprout slaw, with a border of green apple slices and a 'sauce' (for lack of a better word), of celery root puree, all topped with a crisp pork rind. The apples gave some gentle sweetness and tartness, the brussels sprouts freshness, puree earthiness, and the pork rind a very satisfying CRUNCH! I should mention I am typically not a fan of brussels sprouts, but that's a personal preference than an issue with the dish. Skirt Steak - Just like with the pork belly, this was a marvelously put together dish. The potatoes, bok choy, onion, and sauce all worked together marvelously to round out the steak with starchiness and freshness. As for the steak, it was perfectly cooked to the requested medium-rare. However, I found the steak was too salty for my taste, and notably chewy. When paying almost $50 for a piece of meat, I would hope it would be a heavenly melt-in-your-mouth kind of deal, or at least, not chewy...and this wasn't it. Reading others' reviews, I think the kitchen may have had some bad luck with this one :( But then there was the dessert! The Panna Cotta was a beautiful layered amalgamation of deliciousness. It was the perfect level of sweet, had different notes coming in from the curd, the coconut, and those tiny little spheres I want to very cautiously say are chocolate. The service was fast, friendly, and very kind, and the location has a date night kind of vibe!

I have been going there for over a year now and have always had a great experience

My boyfriend and I have been waiting to visit R40 since moving to LIC 2 years ago - we're so upset to have waited so long to give it a try! We came here for a special occasion and the server greeted us with glasses of champagne. Dining indoors is now available and the spacing was very comfortable between tables. For apps we ordered the crab empanada, seafood with squid ink rice and bone marrow - my favorite. For the entree we got the 40 day dry aged steak and it was tender and juicy. Each dish was so rich and flavorful, I would recommend going with more people so you can try every dish! We're looking forward to coming back. :)

Great experience! The food is so good!!!! The crab/shrimp empanada is extremely yummy, wish it was 2 or 3. Baked clams were prepared well, with great taste. I wanted to lick my bowl after the Rigatoni, it was so special! The skirt steak is seasoned very well and pairs well with the bok choy! Thank you to the hostess for taking a beautiful picture of my valentine and I! Can't wait to come back!
