I can definitely see why Raoul's has a great reputation! I loved the vintage theme of the restaurant with ambient lighting, portraits all over the walls, and even a super tiny staircase leading to the upstairs bathroom. The food was great! The steak is definitely a must try. The meat was cooked perfectly, and the fries were super crispy. The peppercorn balanced perfectly with the sauce and gave it a nice little kick. It was a unique, buttery, sauce that left you wanted to dip the steak in more. The service was great, they even brought me more sauce. The burger was also really good. The bun was soft, the burger was juicy, and the condiments complimented the dish as a whole. I was told that during dinner time, only a certain amount are released. I would definitely come back for more, if I get lucky with a reservation again :).

I wanted to like this spot more, but it was slightly lackluster. Was really excited to try this spot out and try the iconic steak au poivre. The peppercorn dressing was extremely tasty, but it was a bit rough to slice through! Not smooth as tender as I imagined. With the steak you get fries and a small salad. Salad was nice and the fries were cold. Girlfriend got the jambalaya risotto and she said it was fine - not incredible. Not a ton of shrimp/clams included in the dish so not necessarily worth it for the price. We got the bread to start - very tasty with butter and topped with the special salt. Waiter was attentive and we were in and out in less than an hour. A fair warning regarding bathrooms...there are only two and they're located upstairs. In order to access, you have to climb a somewhat narrow spiral staircase in order to access. Lastly, I was there to celebrate my birthday and it was even noted in the reservation. They never mentioned it or brought out a dessert. Not the end of the world, but didn't feel right. We were there at 5:15pm and it wasn't even that crowded yet so seemed like an oversight. All in all, as much as I had hope, Raoul's ambience nor food didn't entirely live up to the hype.

The food here was delicious and the meat on my burger was cooked medium as requested. I usually like it well done, but because the French style of cooking the meat patty is done over whole peppered corns; the waitress recommended either medium rare or medium and I'm glad I took her advice! Service was great, we were seated right away, and the food was out in a timely manner. Unfortunately we sat outside but even then it was nice. The inside of the restaurant is this very modern, artsy, fun vibe.
Be the first to ReplyThe burger here is absolutely insane.
You HAVE to get it. I don't know how to be more emphatic, but it might have been the most flavorful burger I've ever had. It's super high quality meat and comes with an amazing sauce that you can also dip your fries in. I'm already thinking about the next time I'll have this burger, I hope it happens soon.

While the food is good at best, I'm not sure the long wait, rude staff, and challenging dining experience is worth it. We wanted to try something unique for a friend's birthday and was recommended to come here for the burger. So we lined up early to put our names down. They only serve 20 burgers a night, only at the bar, and the bar only has 8 seats. We knew there would be a long wait, but we were annoyed to see diners at the bar linger and order another round of drinks, instead of allowing the restaurant to turnover the tables quicker to seat the other people waiting to eat. We were having a conversation and joking about dining etiquette, like "hello, read the room, take your drinks to the upstairs lounge." Little did we know, staff would be eavesdropping on our conversation and taking it one step further. As soon as we were seated, management stormed over and scolded us like we were children about cursing. It's one thing if we were being rude to other diners or at the staff, sure, 100% kick us out, but in a group conversation? Apparently, NO CURSING ALLOWED, even in your group conversations. I thought we walked through the doors of the restaurant and were transported out of New York City. Does scarcity make something valuable? Well if you have the time and patience, you too can give it a whirl. Hopefully you have a better experience than us.

Went to Raoul's last night with two friends for a belated birthday celebration. We got in line around 4:45pm knowing that you can only get the burger at the bar, the bar only has 8 seats, and they only make 20 burgers per night. We were lucky to make the cut, snagging burgers #17-19 and were told it would be a 90 min wait. OK, no biggie. We're all NYers and wanted to see if the burger lived up to the hype. We each had two drinks and hung in the upstairs lounge (you climb a spiral staircase), which was cozy and had clean restroom facilities. We relocated down to the bar around 6:30pm and stood around waiting for patrons from the first round (remember, only 8 seats) to pay their bill. We were chatting over by the staircase and were remarking that it was rude for people to stick around at the bar/continue ordering drinks, knowing full well that there was another group of folks waiting for the burger. At this point, the rest of the restaurant was crowded (it was dinner time) and there wasn't really a lot of space to stand. You also had people who weren't on the original list trying to slip into the bar area. Ultimately, we snagged three seats around 6:45pm and got our burger orders in. The minute we sat down, someone from the Raoul's staff approached us and scolded us for using foul language (as if we were children)... apparently these Raoul's staff members (the hostess and someone from the kitchen) were eavesdropping on our conversation at the other end of the bar whereby my friends and I used a few not-so-nice words about patrons overstaying at the bar. They assumed that we were directing them at the staff/restaurant, which was NOT the case at all. Let's just say it was one of the most awkward encounters I've ever had as an adult and do not really understand the intent (i.e., there were no physical or verbal altercations and it was a huge misunderstanding; if there was a real problem, they should have just told us to leave...) other than to ruin our night and make us feel bad. Awkward situation aside, the burger was very tasty and the au poivre sauce is incredible. Meat was cooked to perfection (medium rare) and the melted brie, onions, pickles, etc. created an insane set of bites. Definitely a top NYC burger, but be prepared to wait. The situation with the staff was unfortunate and is the reason for the 2-star review. Food and drinks were obviously better than 2 stars.

The morning of our reservation my boyfriend came down with a GI bug. We tried calling to rebook for the following night, but were unable to reach anyone, the phone rang "busy" each time. We canceled our res 9 hours ahead of time and were charged $100. The next day we called and explained the situation politely, unfortunately the staff was very rude and short. They would not refund us the $100 and said it was due to their cancelation policy. Will not be rebooking.

Walked in and seated immediately at the bar. The burger was spectacular! It was cooked perfectly and had just the right amount of pepper. The crispy fries and the au poivre sauce were also fantastic. Yes the burger was great but so was the overall experience at this classic French bistro. Angus and Jose behind the bar are true masters of their craft. The seemingly endless banter with them and others at the bar really made the night. Will definitely be back. See you soon!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food, wonderful ambience and great service.
It's certainly one of the great French Bistro's in NYC for many reasons.

***Gotta make reservations in advance*** This is one of the hot spots in WV. The bar seats only 8 people. If you don't have a reservation, be ready to wait in line 30 mins before they open at 5 PM. You gotta have the burger!!! It's one of a kind and one of the best-tasting burgers in the city. The chef only makes 12 burgers per day. The beef quality is good, the kick from the black peppercorn takes it to another level, the cheese and the pickles, everything is well balanced. On top of that, that burger dipping sauce is phenomenal The chef's recommendation for this burger is medium rare, but that's too raw/pink for me. I ordered a medium, and it was great! The fries are crispy and seasoned well. The crab cakes croquettes are great! Crispy on the outside and the sauce is perfectly balanced. Overall the food and the ambiance is great. I love that it has a speakeasy vibe to it. It is intimate and that classic old fashioned New York Style takes me back in the old days. I'm giving it a four star because I wasn't impressed with the service from the bartender. Unfortunately he never acknowledged my presence. He only talked to my friend, it's like I didn't exist. So f...that!
Be the first to ReplyThis is what a bistro in New York City should be.
The place was packed but somehow cozy. Noisy yet somehow intimate. We had a world-class experience. The salad frisee was lovely, the steak au poivre was perfection, as were the fries, and the wine we chose from their wonderful wine list (I recommend their Bordeaux selections) was served at the right temperature, which is a huge deal if you are a wine aficionado. The service was great-- Naomi was quick, funny, and delightful. Is it expensive? Sure, but my goodness what a treat and well worth it. This will have been the first of many visits going forward.

I cut into it before snapping the pic, but it was absolutely fantastic. A little heavy on the peppercorn, but it gave it a nice kick. The service and vibe were amazing as well. A small space but it hit all the right marks!

Burger hack: usually their legendary burger is limited at the bar only. On weekends there is no limits and folks comfortably walked in with no reservations table and bar at 11. Speaking of the burger, this was a tasty creation with au poivre sauce served on the side. You're told to dip the burger in the sauce. Definitely worth it. This was a juicy bite. I wasn't thrilled with the fries, compared to belthazar or minetta tavern but nothing I'd send back. Worth coming back for more
Be the first to ReplyAmazing service & food.
Steak frites was everything I hoped it would be. Might be my favorite spot in NYC.

I have been going to Raoul's since a teenager in the 80s and remember eating in the garden when you had to walk-through the kitchen. The food was always good. The vibe was always warm and there were a lot of regulars up through the 90s in early 2000s. Something happened post Covid I don't know if it's Instagram or some other societal change that I've missed. It's no longer worth the money. The food is good enough and to be sitting around a bunch of people taking photos for Instagram that makes me want to vomit. Somehow, Raoul's now reminds me of Bitcoin at $70,000, a bubble that's going to burst

Upon walking into Raoul's, you know it's going to be a great time. The restaurant is fairly small, very crowded, and spacious all at the same time. The service was very friendly and the food was excellent. We ordered the Maine lobster tortellini for an appetizer, and each got the steaks. The tortellini is a very small portion, but was delicious. Next time, I want to try the steak tartare. The steak au poivre was highly recommended & did not disappoint. The peppercorn heavy sauce is unique and tasty. I wish we were able to try their famous burger, but I believe it's very limited availability at the bar only. Reservations release on Resy at 8am 30 days in advance.
Be the first to ReplyI had been dying to try the burger for a year.
Therefore, I decided to visit for a Sunday brunch at 2/25. The burger itself is perfect. Cooked to medium rare, balanced between crust and juicy. But what takes it to another level is the gravy. It should be a wine base, with bouillon de boeuf, which is a huge beefy compound that enhances flavor of the burger. The bistro is a bit too dark for a brunch vibe. However, I was not on a date, it did not bother me at all. I requested to seated at the bar to not occupy a table for two. The bartender was so welcoming and friendly. He constantly check if everything is fine. Although sometime I was soaking in the burger so that I kinda hesitated to respond Lol. After all, this comes to the top of my burger rank in the city.
Be the first to ReplyRaoul's fulfilled my expectations.
We sat next to a fish tank which immediately improved the vibe. The martini I got was just the way I like it (lemon twist vermouth rinse with kettle one). The escargot was delicious. The steak and frites were so yummy with the sauce. It is expensive so keeping it for a special occasion might be a good idea. Our server was great and spoke French.

Loved Raoul's! Got an early res on a friday at 5:30 through beli. Ordered the bread to start, the ham croquettes, steak au poivre for the entree and ended with their apple tartine dessert. The steak was cooked perfectly and the pepper sauce was 10/10

Nice brunch today! Had mimosa trio - pear, strawberry, and mango purรฉe and a bottle of champagne. We shared amongst 4. Must get. My husband and son got the burger. I and my son's girlfriend ordered the chicken schnitzel. The stand out aspect was the professional, helpful amd attentive wait staff. Great food and atmosphere.

Wonderful waitstaff and delicious food. I thought it was a great place!

I've been a huge fan of Raoul's for a while- love the steak frites and brunch and the truffle beignets are also amazing. Finally made it out there early enough to have one of the burgers and WOW. Best burger in the city for sure- meat melts in your mouth and the au poivre sauce is inspired. The staff at Raoul's are also super nice and make it a great experience every time!
Be the first to ReplyBest steak Au poivre I've ever had.
The sauce was incredible. We got the Brussels sprouts to start and they were also delicious. Amazing portions, the vibe in here is adorable. Will def be back for the steak but really wanna try the Au poivre burger next!
Be the first to ReplyThis is a classic soho steakhouse located on a quiet street.
When you walk in you're greeted with an 1960s style bar. There is sitting area in the back, bar, and outside however if you're walk in you're most likely to be sitting outside. There's free coat check too. We ordered the steak au poivre which was a 9oz steak with a black peppercorn sauce on top and a side of fries as well as the bread and escargot for an appetizer. The food was cooked well. The steak was a bit more firm that I would've liked but the sauce made up for it. The escargot was cooked well and not too buttery. The real star of the show was the bread. You have to pay for it but it was baked well and came with radish which was a unique twist. Lastly for dessert we ordered the crรจme brรปlรฉe to share which had a great hard layer on top. Overall the food was good but the steak was a bit lackluster for the price point. You're really coming here for the ambiance and to be seen at a place that is hard to reserve on a Friday night.

When you spend $750 for 4 people and the food was NOT fabulous ( booze was maybe 200$) AND then you have an obnoxious dude come up to your table ... while you're waiting for them to re run the bill since they overcharged us and we actually checked the bill AND caught the overcharge.... and tells us we need to leave because he needs the table ( we were there for max 2 hours) ... Nope!!! There actually IS A lovely way to communicate he needs the table... but he definitely doesn't Know how to do that... AND it was sooooo incredibly off putting !!! I will will never go to Raouls again... I'll take Balthazar 100000 times over this 'cramped joint w a shitty attitude and mediocre food ' ps there's a reason why I had not been there in 20 years...just sayin'
