Delicious Food!
We went to The Red Ash for dinner to celebrate our son and daughter-in- law’s anniversary. The service was excellent, and the food was stellar! It was really a treat! The pasta with the home made fennel sausage in a tomato cream sauce was one of the best dishes I have ever tasted! All the dishes we had were above normal and each one tasted amazing! If I have any complaints at all, I found the wine menu to be a bit overpriced. I think their price point for a bottle of wine was higher than other restaurants with the same caliber of food. I am not saying that they should not have expensive wines, I am saying that they should have several bottles of wine that start at a lower price point than $60 for a bottle. There are many great wines that could make the cut in a fine dining establishment that won’t break the bank. Just my opinion!

Great food, good service and this place has now risen to the top of a big list of Italian style restaurants that I’ve visited. Please take my advise and book ahead. A must visit.
Be the first to ReplyWOW!!!!
I've been to plenty of Italian restaurants but none like this. Where do I begin... From steak to pasta and fish Rad Ash has it all and is cooked on an open flame or in a wood-fired oven. The Baratta app is awesome with oven-roasted plum tomatoes served on garlic bread. The octopus app has to be the most tender I have ever had. I had the Frutti de Mare entre served with black and regular pasta, assorted shellfish, and a lobster tail on top. I got it fra diavolo and it was excellent and a great portion. Needless to say, it was an excellent meal all eight of us enjoyed every dish. Make a reservation at least weeks in advance. Valet parking is available next door but be advised that they close at 10 p.m. and then according to the attendant you can't get your car until the next day. Loved this place don't miss it!!!

Went on a Saturday night and sat at the bar. The cocktails were excellent and we could order from the entire menu. The bruschetta and pastas were among the best we've had and the atmosphere was fun and exciting. Will go again in a heartbeat.

My brother made a reservation for my birthday! I have never been before then but him and his girlfriend go quite often. I was already expecting really good food and nice dinning. 10/10 it delivered

Be the first to ReplyGreat food & service
This is the best restaurant I’ve been to anywhere. We had garlic bread, bone-in filet, frutti di mare and potato gnocchi. Everything was 5 Star, absolutely delicious. If you can get a reservation do it. You won’t be disappointed
Be the first to ReplyBring Your Appetite....Top Flight Italian Food, Service and Decor
I can't say enough great things about this restaurant. I'm from NYC and have access to great food, but when I go to Austin, Red Ash is a "MUST DINE" location for me and for my family. The food is "AUTHENTICALLY" Italian. It's all made in high intensity flame ovens as well as a wood burning stove. All of the pastas are homemade. The ingredients are locally sourced. The staff is amazing. We've come to know one of the hostesses (Apple) as well as two of the servers (Zach and Eddie). When we arrive, they know who we are and actually remembered out dietary preferences. The cocktails are well prepared in proper glasses....and they have nice local specialty drinks. If I have a single criticism, it's this - "BRING YOUR APPETITE BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING TO LEAVE FULL". Lastly....make sure you order the Burrata!
Be the first to ReplyHomemade Gluten-Free Pasta
The homemade gluten-free pasta was a nice surprise. This was light, and not grainy. The gelato was quite good. The ambiance was warm, and inviting. This is not a place to go for a quiet meal, as it can be loud. This is definitely a restaurant for special occasions, since the menu is pricey.

Red Ash rocks. We were seated promptly and service throughout the meal was spot on. From starters to mains and desserts, the food is amazing. Must haves for starters are the garlic bread (the best I’ve ever had ANYWHERE) and the octopus. Osso Buco the and halibut are great entree choices as are any of the wood-fired steaks. I’d eat there weekly if I lived in Austin.

Authentic wood fried grill and oven. Sat at the chefs bar and watched as they prepared amazing wood fired dish after dish. Each is prepared and cooked with an authentic wood grill. Great place

I have been several times and enjoyed each experience. My favorites are the meatballs, Tomato and burrata cheese & the fresh pasta and bolognese sauce.

Probably the most hyped up restaurant in Austin, and with good reason. Is it the absolute best, probably not but it’s definitely top 5. Burrata is absolutely to die for. The clams are excellent and unique. Home made pastas and wide variety of cocktails. When in Austin Red Ash is a must.
Be the first to ReplyGood but Overrated
Our family group of 8 had dinner here on a Friday night. The restaurant was crowded and noisy but I was expecting that due its current popularity. Our waiter was very good - attentive and helpful with wine selections, water re-fills, etc. The food was generally good but over-spiced. My oven-roasted chicken dish was dominated by some sort of rub. Same for my son’s steak which tasted like they used a seafood rub. The bread was drenched in butter - it tasted good but I would have preferred the butter on the side. My brother-in-law had to send his dish back because some of the seafood was undercooked. Everyone else loved their food. I think of quality Italian food as being nuanced. The food here is much more in-your-face with the strong spices so it didn’t meet my expectations of a good Italian restaurant. I also found it a bit pretentious. E.g. they import their bread from New Jersey because of the alleged quality of NJ water. I can see having NY bagels shipped in but I’m not buying to to the NJ bread hype. Overall, I liked my dinner but didn’t love it. It seemed like more of a trendy restaurant than high-end Italian.

First time dining here, based on a friend's recommendation. Was a bit surprised that I had to make a reservation about a month in advance for the day/time I wanted. But well worth the wait. Everything was fresh out of the oven and delicious. We shared some starters plus shared one of the pasta entrees so we all had space for dessert. Which was also amazing.
Highly recommend and will go back to try more dishes.
It's in one of the Austin downtown building so no outdoor space. No parking either. They do have valet ($10) but we chose to take a Lyft/taxi in and out as to not have to deal with the SXSW crowds.
Very high quality food!
Excellent vibe and extremely high quality food. The octopus is highly recommended, and it's difficult to do octopus well. Definitely come here if you want an upscale meal in Austin.

Went last night after not going for two years. This place is the real deal. The buratta and octopus were my fave appetizers and the bread is to die for. Drinks were yummy and great wine list . Service was amazing as usual. We ordered half sizes of 4 pastas and were all stuffed . Reservations are hard to get. Plan ahead !!! It's worth it.

I loved the restaurant. I was unable to get a reservation online and called and they kindly got me in. The atmosphere is awesome and lively. We were served by a wonderful and helpful waitress Christina who made sure we had a great time. Food excellent. We got both burrata dishes and both delicious but I recommend the one with prosciutto more. The pasta in the butter and sage fabulous. You must get the donuts as a desert! Drinks well made.
Great first night in Austin! WOW.
Pretty good food, certainly better than average; eclectic menu
Cool vibe in the restaurant though it seemed a bit crowded and loud. (We were near the bar and I'm not sure how big the restaurant is.) The menu options might be for a more sophisticated palette than mine, but our food was pretty good. I would have liked more options. Pricey. (Also, for some reason the phone hostess told us the place was business casual and up, though even the waitstaff wears jeans as a uniform.???) Also, I believe you have to make a reservation here about 3 weeks in advance.

Really good eats. Did my research and found this place, but a friend also recommended it. With so many options, I’m glad I made ressies.
First off, everyone needs to know the portions for the pasta….you have the small and large. The large is meant to share with at least two but i think even 3-4 will work. We were hungry and did well, but man, we totally overdid ourselves ordering two large pastas.
Pre pasta we had their famous garlic bread which is a MUST. We also ordered the burrata which came on top of the garlic bread. The burrata was also made for 3-4.
Somehow as full as we were, we managed to get dessert which was an apple crostata with vanilla ice cream. It was absolutely delicious!
Our bartender Casey made really good cocktails and she was very attentive, considering the bar was pretty busy.
Loved this place and would definitely visit again when I’m back in town.
Another Wonderful meal
This is a go to when friends come to town. So enjoy the panzanella, Chianti .. meatballs, calamari w polenta, tutti de mare .thank you Donna for such great service
Be the first to ReplyPretentious
The restaurant screwed up our reservation for a birthday dinner and then blamed our hotel for the mistake (even though every other reservation the hotel made was perfect). The antithesis of Austin’s cool and authentic style…pretentious, snooty and unapologetic. Better places to spend your hard earned money.
Be the first to ReplyBeyond Amazing
I booked a reservation here for dinner on the recommendation of a friend and I can safely say that it drastically exceeded my expectations.
The service was amazing: our server (I didn't catch her name) was extremely knowledgeable about each and every dish on offer and was able to inform us about everything ranging from the drink menu to the overall menu to the dessert menu. At every step she had an insight, recommendations, and detailed descriptions about every dish. She was also very attentive: she constantly came over to refill water even though we were provided with a bottle at the table.
My group ordered the country Italian bread, the vine tomatoes and Burrata, the bone in fillet, and the Frutti di Mare. Every dish was executed perfectly from start to finish.
The Italian bread was quite amazing considering it was a small plate: the butter was extremely flavourful, usually I find that bread with olive oil, particularly those served at Italian restaurants are quite heavy, but this was very light and flavourful. The Grana and garlic had a pungency but was not overpowering, surprising given the amount of garlic used and the olive oil really lifted the dish without taking away from the primary flavours. The crust was perfectly crunchy without being overcooked.
The vine tomatoes and Burrata were very fresh. The Burrata was very creamy and milky and contrasted perfectly with the sweetness of the fire roasted tomatoes. Combined with the bread and the balsamic vinegar, which again added a kick of bitter and sour flavour without being overpowering, and the dish melded beautifully.
The bone in fillet was insanely good. The meat was astoundingly tender and soft and the dry ageing produced an amazing flavour profile almost similar to that of barbecue, which was perfectly complemented by the shallot butter. The outside char and smokey flavour contrasted perfectly with the freshness and tenderness of the meat which took the dish over the top.
I was very pleasantly surprised by the Frutti di Mare. From my experience, pasta and spaghetti dishes at Italian restaurants are either extremely creamy or have a strong tomato flavour, the sauce of this dish perfectly blended the two flavours to the point where both flavours shined without being overly slanted toward either. The spaghetti was cooked excellently, soft but springy and not at all mushy. The seafood was the big surprise of the dish. Normally seafood in pasta dishes tend to be watery and tend to taste fishy, neither was the case with any of the seafood in this particular dish. The shrimp was cooked excellently, firm with a bounce yet soft and flavourful. The clams and mussels were both very tasty without having the odd the taste that you get from usual clams, indicating freshness and quality preparation. The lobster tasted amazingly fresh and everything was seasoned beautifully.
Best restaurant in Austin!
Just wow! Thank you Gabby for having us and Joel (our waiter) for taking such amazing care of us. By far the best culinary experience I've had in a long time. Visiting from Los Angeles....must try or you're missing out! Staff cares, and pays attention to details, they take the finest of the most simple ingredients and create a magical meal. Generous portions, reasonably priced and extremely well operated! We'll be back!

We spent the night in Austin for our 37th wedding anniversary and chose the Red Ash for our celebration dinner. I was lucky to get a reservation as they fill up a few weeks in advance.
It is not a real romantic setting but more of a hip bar/restaurant. Josh was our server and his attentiveness to our needs was fantastic. He checked back on a regular basis but was not annoying.
We had a garlic and roasted tomato bruschetta, Caesar Salad, homemade pasta and a delicious dessert the restaurant gave us as an anniversary surprise. We also had a couple of cocktails each as well as an after dinner drink. The bill was very reasonable for the amount we ate and drank as well as the quality of the food.
You can’t go wrong if you choose this restaurant!
