Lots of interesting restaurants in Austin, but always looking for good Italian food and this is one worth trying. Food was very tasty, though service was a tad slow.

The staff is top notch. The octopus and bone marrow are a must try!
Be the first to ReplyRed Ash is every bit worth the 2 month reservation backlog
Red Ash is every bit worth the 2 month reservation backlog (dare I say best restaurant in Austin...?) Once you snag a reservation though, be sure to mark your calendar because there is a $50pp charge for no shows. And here's why it's worth it:With its central location right off of Congress and 3rd St, this sprawling two floor modern steampunk paradise makes you feel warm and fuzzy as soon as you enter. The staff are incredibly professional and knowledgeable on the menu & drinks. In terms of food, I'd honestly recommend ordering anything made on the Wood-Grill. There's something about wood-grilled food that really appeals to each of our inner prehistoric humans, and generates a truly inate feeling of satisfaction when eating. The Bone marrow appetizer with the fresh thick cut garlic bread was possibly the best thing I've put in my mouth. We savored every moment of the succulent, toasty marrow served upon two spectacular bones. The octopus a la plancha appetizer was also fresh and saucy but definitely paled in comparison. For our main, we ordered the frutti di mare (usually my fave pasta dish), which only comes in the entree size - good portion for sharing. This pasta was a little bit of a let down as it was not saucy enough and 2/6 of the mussels tasted spoiled. The other pastas did look good, but when I go back to this restaurant, I will be sticking to their specialty of wood-fired items. There is convenient valet parking right outside as street parking is limited in the area. All the staff are very helpful and welcoming. Book your reservation for this experience ASAP!
Be the first to ReplyService fee gouge alert.
Spent 15 minutes on a takeout order only to find a mandatory 20% service charge tacked on at the end. Again, this is takeout. This is deceptive and unethical pricing equivalent to surprise Ticketmaster fees at checkout. If your food pricing doesn't allow you to properly pay your staff, then raise the prices up front. Don't deceive your customers, one of which you just lost.

I'd love to be the person to say this place isn't worth the hype or 3 month wait, but it really, really, really is.
Be the first to ReplyWe just had an amazing birthday dinner for my wife.
The food was outstanding and the service with Henry, Emma and Joel was beyond belief. I cannot give Red Ash a higher recommendation. 5 stars all the way around! Thank you very much!
Be the first to ReplyBrought our family to red ash for dinner.
Overall the food was good, our favorite was the bread and the salad. The server seemed a little rushed and was hard to hear as it was loud inside. Overall the experience was fine I just don't know if it's worth the price. The dessert wasn't great. You can find amazing Italian food in Austin. Don't think we'll ever be back but I'm glad I tried it.

We had reservations for ages to enjoy a Valentine's Day experience. It was worth the wait. Service was impeccable and the casual vibe made our meal so comfortable. Share a salad if you go - they're made for two. Everything was delicious, including dessert!

Katya was absolutely amazing and elegant! My partner and I enjoyed our dinner, probably some of the best Italian (American?) food we have ever had.

It is a simple and beautiful place, the kitchen in the wood oven caught my attention and also its natural Grill that gives the food a spectacular flavor. I have ordered an Ossobuco with risotto that was very, very spicy for my taste and also very expensive! this Italian food naturally isn't spicy and I know what I don't get in restaurants in Austin. Good beer and garlic bread from the wood oven!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, service and ambience.
Busy place. Made a reservation two months in advance.
Be the first to ReplyCool place, great ambiance, very attractive crowd dining
Cool place, great ambiance, very attractive crowd dining there. The restaurant was super busy but despite that the service was excellent, very attentive and knowledgeable on the menu. Food was good, we had the gnocchi and frutti de mare as entrees, butter clams as an appetizer and tiramisu for dessert. The food was good, service was great, good size portions. Excellent cocktails too.
Be the first to Replypasta is fresh-- very fresh.
tastes unlike any other pasta i've tried. chewy and wheaty. hard to explain.... don't think i'll go again bc i'm on a budget but nice to treat oneself once and a while
Be the first to ReplyMany reviews had high hopes.
It is a very famous place, the food was good, very rich. I think the downside for us was the service and the fact that we were basically sitting on top of another couple. The tables were right next to each other as if it was just one.
Be the first to ReplyThis is one of those restaurants where it's recommended
This is one of those restaurants where it's recommended that you make reservations a few months in advance. I was not sure if it was just a hype or if their popularity was well earned. After tonight I can completely understand why it's worth the wait. Service was impeccable. The food was even better. We ordered the octopus a la plancha, garlic bread, casarecce alla campagnola and tagliolini with fresh blue crab. Every single dish was perfectly executed. The tagliolini was probably the best thing that we ate. It was a lot of food for two people and it was impossible to finish it and still have room for dessert and I live for dessert. The hot apple crostata has a crust to die for and I've never enjoyed apples more. I had the Spring Fling cocktail and it was everything I love in a drink. I wanted to try another one of their cocktails but I was way too full. Only thing I did not like was that even though I received a birthday card from the restaurant, they did not put a candle on my dessert and I saw other tables did. Our server stopped by the table after bringing the check and said she would remove the dessert from our tab because the manager told her it was our anniversary. It was not... it was my birthday but I did not bother to correct her. Silly mix up, but they might want to address the communication mishap. However, this has to be without a doubt my favorite dining experience in Austin. I already made my reservation to go back cause there's so many other dishes I'm dying to try. Do yourself a favor and open your OpenTable app and make your reservation immediately. Show up hungry.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Experience.
.. Starting with the hostess Gabby, so welcoming, friendly and accommodating, she went out of her way for us and we appreciated that. Second, our amazing server Brandy, if we ever come back, I'd humbly ask to be sat in her section. Her food and drink recommendations were impeccable and well received. She felt like an old friend and made us feel so comfortable from beginning to end. Finally the General manager Peter was attentive to everyone not just us. I highly recommend this restaurant. 10/10 experience for us.
Be the first to ReplyThis place was recommended to us from locals.
My husband and I were in town celebrating my birthday and had to try this restaurant. Since it was just recommended to us we did not have reservations. We walked in and kindly were treated by Gaby. She stated they didn't have reservations until several hours later. Gaby worked her magic and was able to get us seated. We sat and had an amazing waitress by the name of Brandy. Brandy was amazing from start to finish. Made great recommendations and both my husband and I were beyond pleased. Everyone there from food runners to management was very attentive. We will definitely be back again!
Be the first to ReplyWhere do I begin.
. . . There have been many times I've had delicious food, but Red Ash took my taste buds to a level I can't explain. This is a dining experience that sticks with you. That you can walk out the door and say if I died today, I'd die happy. This is the pinnacle of fine Italian dining. It's fresh, it's robust, it's flavorful, it's complex, it is worth every penny and more!My husband and I thought we would be able to easily get a reservation since it was a Tuesday evening, boy were we wrong! We called at 7:30 and the best we could get was 2 seats at the bar at 8:45 or a table at 9:15. After reading reading the other Yelp reviews we decided we would wait til 9:15 for the table and get the full experience. Our waiter Chris was absolutely delightful! Knew the menu, made great recommendations, told me about the delicious drink special, the Green Queen, and his description of it lured me in to order it. From start to finish our whole experience was divine. We ordered the Italian country bread which had a nice crispy exterior and hot chewy inside that was perfect for mopping up the sauce for everything else!I also ordered the Octopus Allá Plancha, grilled and tender octopus sitting atop a light salad and some cooked to perfection beans. (I mopped up all that bean juice with my bread, not the most elegant site but it had to happen.)I ordered the chicken, which is a whole half of a chicken! They place it on top of a slice of the country bread, covered in herbs, and a grilled lemon. My husband got the Osso Buco with saffron risotto and it blew him away! It was tender, melted off the bone, the gravy getting soaked into the risotto, again, perfect to dip the bread in. Did I mention everything was perfect already?? Well, everything was perfect. We also ordered a small bowl of pasta just to taste it and it was so freshly made, simple and delicious, it brought a small tear to my eye. A true rustic taste. To finish the night I ordered the olive oil cake (as my birthday cake ;-) which they gifted me) and my taste buds were elevated even higher! After a bad experience with olive oil cake last year I was scared to try it but Chris assured me theirs would blow my mind, and he was absolutely correct! Flavor explosion, warm cake, warm brandy sauce, toasted pistachios, candied orange peel (so freaking delicious) and fluffy, lightly sweetened marscarpone. Beyond perfect. I have been dreaming about the occasion to go back and eat there again. (And I was just there 4 days ago.) Going on repeat!

Made a reservation for our wedding anniversary as we are new to Austin and heard this was "the spot." Joel at the bar was amazing with recommendations on both food and wine pairings. The 3 mo wait was worth it. Will be back soon!

Our son graduated from UT Austin a year ago and sadly we didn't get to visit as much as we would have liked to (partly due to Covid). But when we did visit, we enjoyed exploring the city and its vibrant food scene. We flew in last night, and went here based on a friend's recommendation. Let me tell you, they were spot on! We came here straight from the airport and the only reservation we could get was at 9pm (booked it a few days ahead). Having looked at the other reviews, we decided to share an order of the wood roasted bone marrow, the Calabrian salad, and the agnolotti. The bone marrow and the crispy bread that comes with it, were utterly delectable - generous portions, with savory, silky tastes and textures! The agnolotti was tasty - the flavors were rich, lightly creamy, yet delicate. I should also mention that this dish was delivered by the executive chef - whoa, such a pleasant surprise! The salad was huge and helped round out the flavors of the other two dishes. We came here on a Tuesday evening at 9pm and the place was packed, we certainly understand why. We came here on a friend's recommendation and will definitely recommend it to our friends and to all of you on yelp! Enjoy!
Be the first to ReplyBest Italian I've had in a while and worth the money.
I went with a group of 4. We ordered 3 apps, 4 entrees, 1 bottle of wine, and a cocktail. The bill came out to be under $400 which I feel is fairly reasonable for an Italian meal in the downtown area of a popular city. I've definitely paid more for less for food that was not as good in quality. Now speaking of the actual food, there was nothing that I didn't like. My favorite and most surprising starter was the bone marrow. Typically I don't find the direct fat on the bone marrow to be too appealing, but the way Red Ash does it may have me going back for seconds real soon. The Frutti di Mare was delectable; I was sad when it was gone. It came with a reasonable quantity of seafood--mussels, clams, lobster, and shrimp. I would highly recommend.
