Beautiful, and reasonable prices for a museum resto.
You cannot beat the views and general surroundings. The food is tasty - not just hot dogs and such. And reasonable prices for a museum restaurant.

What a happy surprise. We usually expect a mediocre experience at a museum restaurant, given the captive audience. This was a great experience. Peaceful atmosphere, professional service (Ismael), and good food (we only had soup and meal salads). Excellent wine list. We felt lucky given that reservations are supposedly highly recommended but we got a table in 5 minutes at 2;30pm.

We ate at this restaurant the last time that we visited the Getty Center. It was so good that we reserved a table this time again. The restaurant did not disappoint. We had well-prepared cocktails, had a friendly server, and the branzino fish was wonderful. (How they got a crispy skin over a not-over cooked fish was beyond me!) The weather was so clear that we had a beautiful panoramic view. We consider a visit to the Getty Center a real treat--enjoyable art galleries in the morning and then a tasty lunch in the afternoon. Truly worthwhile visiting.
Be the first to ReplyWorld Class Museum with Over Priced Bad Food
Need a world class chef and decent bar tender. The food is bad food you can get anywhere. Went to the Getty and decided to eat at the restaurant, because it Valentine’s Day. The restaurant would not allow reservations on-line or in person - only walk-in. Ok with us no problem. We ordered two drinks - one glass of red wine, which was really bad, second try another brand was just ok. I ordered a Long Island ice tea - really bad too much coke. Second drink, I changed to G&T (Hendricks) it was as an alcoholic’s dream - all gin. Reordered with instruction to add more tonic - same result. I felt bad for our waiter who was a gem. He apologized and said they had a new bar tender - really? I had the Duo scallops - interesting, but not great. My partner had Leek soup - not flavorful, but edible. Main course Barzino - a small size fillet- not what we expected. I had pasta with local mushrooms and a chicken breast. The pasta w/mushroom was favorable - best part of the meal, but the pasta was over cooked and chicken breast was over cooked and dry. I ate half of the pasta and a few bites of the chicken. I can chicken with feathers if it’s favorable-I Like chicken that much. But this really bad. Don’t waste your money here.

I bought my mom to the Getty for lunch and it was such an amazing experience. The service was impeccable and the views are stunning. We coincidently both got the gazpacho followed by the branzino and it was all very delicious. The cocktails were great too. Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyTEA AT THE GETTY :Make it adventure!
Tea at the Getty was a lovely experience! I go to teas often and have been to many in LA, and this is among the best. The food was the hardiest but still "tea" food that was interesting, beautiful and yummy. It was beautifully presented with a great variety and some interesting twists . The food was fresh and well paired. We sat outside on the patio and although it was a warm day it was delightful with a cool breeze, and the view was stunning. The service was acceptable, efficient but nothing special, but they could have at least mentioned the birthday we were celebrating. Overall the experience was delightful! It was a great value for what was presented. I would go back and try the restaurant if the parking was validated.
Be the first to ReplyBest Octopus Ever!
I love museums and have visited more than a dozen this year alone, but have never found museum restaurants/cafes worth reviewing. The restaurant at the Getty is outstanding. We had reservation for the museum, but not the restaurant (reservation is recommended). We got hungry after walking and looking at all the art at the Getty and just want to sit down, get a nice drink and some food. The restaurant was busy during lunch, but accommodated us with a nice table with great service and food. The charred octopus is cooked to perfection, and the best I have had in a long time. Other dishes were also beautifully presented and delicious too. This restaurant is definitely worth visit on its own.

When at the Getty Center this is a MUST. The restaurant is beautiful with stunning views and the food is delicious. We started with a bowl of the mushroom soup, and my husband had the Cobb salad and I had the wagu meatballs. We finished with a chocolate dessert and it was all delicious! The service was also outstanding.

This review is for afternoon tea. It was $50 pre-tax and -drinks, I think. I thought the food was disappointing. The tea options were disappointing too. I knew it certainly wasn't a traditional tea, but each item was disappointing in its execution of attempted creativity. If it's mediocre food, they better make up for it by providing a respectable amount of food, but the items were tiny (as is traditional). The best thing was the banana bread - I love banana bread, but come on. That's cheap and easy to make at home. I want something delicious out that I can't make at home. The cucumber sandwich - an incredibly easy sandwich to make tasty - was bland. Frankly, everything was bland. Some of the pairings in the items were even kind of gross (orange preserves and salami - blech). I really only booked tea here because I thought it'd have a great view. But the restaurant is located in a way that you wouldn't have a nice view wherever you sit. The restaurant terrace doesn't have a nice view of anything.
I give it 3/5 since the waiters were nice and it was like ~fine~ (aka no food poisoning), but I certainly wouldn't ever go back for any food or for views.
GO GETTY !!
Beautiful Sunday visit to the Getty — a pharaonic buena vista with art — and a very nice lunch at the restaurant. Avocado toast and mushroom soup both quite excellent. Terrific staff and fabulous views — but poor espresso served in a regular coffee cup seemed… off-brand. Ironic to be seated outside under global warming heaters, which make a mockery of California’s climate change concerns.

Booked a lunch reservation on Open Table. Highly recommend doing this right after reserving entrance time for Getty Center. Great setting with tranquil ambiance. We ordered a vegan squash spaghetti and a olive relish ocean Trout. Both were light and tasty. The pastry chef Joanne came out and talked about her chocolate birch dessert. I ordered a coffee and my husband had the Sage. Excellent service. My coffee had always been topped off. Heather, our server, went through the trouble of finding Parmesan cheese ( while the restaurant doesn’t usually stock it). An enjoyable dining experience.

I visited in September. Beautiful place. windows and floors are clean, dishes are mainly western style.
I tried the octopus appetizer, and they were good, but the cheese plate was excellent.
It is a good place to try and experience the food and the atmosphere.
The prices are high.
Great Atmosphere and Food
Its a lovely spot to unwind and enjoy the views after touring the museum. Well prepared food and nice ambience and a reasonable price.

We had the most amazing salmon piccata after a salad with feta and roasted grapes. The meringue dessert was tasty, too.

We had a very enjoyable lunch here at The Cafe. Lunch was pretty much buffet style but a good variety of items. We had the Chinese Chicken Salad, ham & cheese sandwich with a fruit cup and a variety of house-made deserts. Everything was very good. Good lunch option.

I flew into LA a day early, before leaving on a long trip out of the country, specifically to visit the Getty and to eat at the restaurant there. Both had eluded me each time I was in the city and this time I was determined to do both. The art museum was beyond words—awesome is not even close to describing its ambience, its architecture, and its glorious collection. The restaurant, however, didn’t even come close to matching it. I had read all the glowing reviews and came prepared to be amazed. I booked online as soon as reservations opened. And when I got there, it reminded me of Terzo Piano, the restaurant in the Chicago Museum of Art. The interior was bland, almost antiseptic, and it felt more like I was in a large cafeteria space than an elegant restaurant. Despite booking months in advance, I was given a table for two next to a busy staging area for the busboys. My view? Dominated by a pillar. My server was charming but clearly handling way too many tables. I think she was happy when I asked if she thought a specific wine would go with my entree because that meant she didn’t have to offer any other choice as a suggestion. She just said it would be great. The entree was my biggest disappointment. My trout fillets were swimming in butter and seriously over salted, making the dish nearly inedible. Maybe I just chose the worst thing on the menu. Maybe the kitchen was having an off day. But I’ve had better meals at way less famous places—thus my high expectations and keen disappointment. I did get gluten free crackers to replace the bread basket and for that I was thankful. One final thing, my table was the only one without a small potted cactus as the “floral” arrangement. When the couple sitting next to me left, a staff member came over to bus their table and he knocked over their plant. Dirt and cracked pottery went everywhere around my feet. He didn’t ask if I was ok and, when he went off to get a broom, a manager came over, looked at the broken pot and then looked at me and said “Well this happens,” clearly assuming I had knocked it off my table. I replied, “Yes, I imagine that it can sometimes be difficult for the staff to bus a table without occasionally breaking something.” He seemed startled at my response, hopefully because he realized he had blamed me for the mess. I sat there as they cleaned the dirt and broken pottery around my feet, finished my wine, paid my bill and left. Oh, and my server never asked if if I enjoyed my meal. Sigh.
