Gish has 2 dinner services, one at 6pm and another at 8pm.
They opened the doors at 8:03pm. The ambience is very nice and the restaurant is decorated very nicely. We were seated at the bar and so we had a great view of the kitchen. The walnut tofu salad was good. Bright, bitter, acidic, and the walnut tofu hit it out of the park. If the greens were slightly more dressed, it would've been better since there were a lot of bites of just greens. We opted for the wine pairing and although all the wines are very young and sweet, they did pair well with each of the dishes. The zucchini and shrimp roulade was good. About a 7/10. The bechamel containing raw marinated crab was amazing. It was buttery and complex. The dish was packed with flavor but they added 2 balls of apples which felt a bit out of place. Apples are usually in the soy marinade when making raw marinated crab, but having them served raw on the plate felt a little random. The duck entree was the star of the menu. The duck breast was cooked to perfection and served with banchan. Banchan is meant to be a bit salty and impactful with flavor since it is paired with rice. However, I did find all the banchan served was a bit too salty(common theme here). The radish was pickled and very vinegar forward. It would've been nicer if the radish was leaning closer to kimchi than a vinegar pickle. The rice served was topped with more duck, nori, and fried shallots/onion. With all the salty elements on the plate, I would've appreciated a simpler rice bowl. (Maybe omit the fried bits). For dessert, shikye and rice cakes were served. For the yaksik, it contained all the traditional flavors but was very soy sauce forward making it saltier than one would expect for a dessert course. The tteok was simple and excelled. The sikhye was also very traditional and a great addition to the dessert course. Overall, would come back again for a different menu. The service was great and you can tell so much care is put into each dish.

Wagyu Carpaccio: The wagyu beef wasn't actually as tender as I would have expected. The cherry tomato soy dressing was delicious, but everything else was a bit average. Asparagus & Myeongnan Jeot (cured pollock roe): I loved the cured pollock roe! Really flavorful and went nicely with the eggs and asparagus. Samgyetang Gooyi: Chicken breast was quite tender, and sauce was pretty good. Chicken Jook: Nice homey dish. Umami. Morel mushrooms were a great addition for more flavor. Kiwi Trifle: Great dessert to end the night. Really balanced in terms of sweetness and all the different flavors. All of the dishes were solid, but nothing really stood out and wowed me. Solid 4*. Staff were very nice! They came to talk to us throughout the night. Ambiance was great as well. I love the open kitchen concept, and everything about this restaurant feels homey. From the interior to the service to the food.

Restaurant Gish is hidden in this mall area on the side of a alleyl,I was kind of confused since I didnt see anything much in that plaza. It felt like a speakeasy kind of location and the inside looked awesome. You are welcome with super nice staff that seats you for your seating and come out to explain the menu. The course consist of appetizer that was a wagyu salad that help open up your palate with the sour taste probably from vinegrette. You are then presented with a dish with some patatoe and poultry. the secnod dish was fun, and the main entree is a chicken that didnt realy taste like any korean dish, it has some kind of mousse i'm not sure, the chiken was tender and juicy. it isn't overly dry. the lat was the dessert which looked really pretty but probably my least favorite because it didnt give me any wow feeling. its nicely presented but could have been better~

This is a set menu dinner at a small restaurant that serves Korean fushion. This place was hard to book reservations but they had some kind of last minute cancellation so they were able to get us in. The dishes were all presented nicely and each dish was eccentric~ The host is super nice and patient with us since we were a party of 4 and we had a guests that wasn't able to make it on time. They describe each dish carefully to us The ice tea we ordered look super pretty and the presentation is awesome for all the dishes

When I lived in the South Bay I would always come here on date nights, to celebrate completing exams, etc. since the ambiance was always so nice and home-y and the food never disappointed anyone in my party! The tasting menu is always flawless, the service is so attentive, and the restaurant itself is so intimate and cozy. Really great place to relax, eat some good food, drink some wine, and really just make having a meal a really great experience. This place is so much better than many of the michelin star restaurants i've been to around the world so i truly wish the business so much success!

I was planning my wife's birthday dinner and I came across this place on Open Table and decided to try it out. And man am I so happy I decided to do so! I love the rotating set menu and how they only have 2 seatings a night. It makes the whole experience so much more intimate and you feel it during the service. The food was so good and it's all very reasonably priced. Being that Lunar New Year was in Feb, their menu had items that were themed for Lunar New Year, which was a nice touch. There were 4 of us and all of us were super happy with our experience and most importantly my wife absolutely loved it! We are already planning our next visit to Gish. Highly recommend!

Came here with a friend for dinner on a Saturday night! I definitely recommend looking ahead for reservations, this spot is super hot right now so reservation slots go out fast! I love the interior it's so cozy and warm, I love the exposed kitchen. I loved hearing and seeing the chefs create each course, it was such a cool experience. The menu itself was also pretty well curated. As a Korean I'm a bit skeptical when it comes to Korean Fusion, but the tteok guk was such a creative and cool way to Americanize/modernize the traditional soup. I also loved the salmon Tataki, the quality of the fish was super buttery, and the dill and crème added a freshness to the rich fish. I would highly recommend this place for a nice dinner out.

Made reservations few weeks before because it looked fancy and tasty and it was awesome. Food was great and unique and the chef's took their time to explain each dish which was cool. Im korean so seeing authentic korean cuisine as a fine dining experience was awesome and exceeded my expectations! I am definitely booking another reservation in the future to try their new menus!

Hidden gem for sure! They serve a chef tasting set menu which changes each month. I loved every dish served from appetizers to desserts! They played on the theme of Korean Lunar New Year theme of rice cake soup and braised meat: Brilliant!!! Service was prompt and ambiance is very intimate.

Wonderful time tonight here! They have an open kitchen and a really warm friendly staff! We brought in two kids that are 6 and they were very accommodating. The set menu is laid out beautifully, everything that came out was delicious and flavorful. I added the wine pairing and the pours are generous. The portion size was just right! Make your reservations in advance and experience this Korean fine dining treat. I wish I knew about this sooner, I'd definitely come again. The monthly menu change is not easy to do, they have nailed it! My favorite was the duck, it was cooked perfectly and so juicy! The wines that they chose paired well with every course. The parking is easy and it truly is a hidden gem. Come celebrate a special night!

WOWI've given 5 stars to restaurants before, but this is REALLY a FIVE STAR restaurant! We've been to elegant/fancy restaurants, but Gish is truly special as a personal dining experience with amazing food that is presented like art. The kitchen and chefs do their magic in an open kitchen and they personally served and explained the dishes to us. The waitress was warm and attentive and made you feel like a very special guest. The restaurant is small, with around 8 tables, is beautifully designed, and intimate. It felt like you were invited into someone's very nice home.I can't think of a better place for a special celebration or if you really just want to have a very memorable meal.

Be the first to ReplyI had heard about Gish for a while but couldn't get a table
I had heard about Gish for a while but couldn't get a table last summer when they were doing yelp reservations. Now that it's been a few months and they're on Open Table, it seems to be easier to get a spot. That said, you definitely still need to plan ahead. They have two seatings each night - 5pm and 7:30pm, and it's a fairly small restaurant in a random strip mall. I had requested an outdoor table, which they graciously set up for us, but then it ended up being very cold, so they offered us chef counter seats, which was a bonus because it was spaced out from the other diners, and we could get a firsthand look at the action in the kitchen!Even though we came in early March, they were still on the February menu, which worked out since it was all foods I like. I'm not a fan of offal nor lamb, which I saw on some prior menus, so I was a little worried, and I didn't want to be that difficult customer making ridiculous dietary preference requests at a small restaurant. The tasting menu was $79/person with a wine pairing available. They also have a small but well curated wine list, and corkage is $25/bottle. 1. Beet Radicchio Salad: radicchio leaves, golden beats, anchovy, and a super umami xo sauce. We found ourselves happily surprised with this dish and actually thought it had the most complex flavors of the night.2. Squid mandu soup: pork, kimchee, squid dumplings, steamed, then covered in a clarified smoked anchovy broth (slightly reminiscent of dashi) with a garlic confit oil. The dumpling texture had a good bite, and the filling was generous 3. Pork chop: with beurre blanc and trout roe. The pork chop was huge and was cooked just right and had a ton of flavor. The highlight was actually the pickled burdock and fennel on the side, which was a nice contrast to the beurre blanc 4. Misoogaru cheesecake: the cheesecake had a subtle but fragrant roasted grain flavor than reminded me of genmaicha and was such a creative take on traditional cheesecake. It came with mini Korean rice cakes and a hint of lemon. This was an excellent dessert - it tied in perfectly with the Korean theme and was not too sweetAgain, we were lucky to have the chef's counter. All of the staff were so gracious and attentive, and it was so nice to watch them preparing all of the dishes. It's definitely worth the effort to get a reservation, and the whole dining experience is a solid value for the price. Don't be fooled by the random strip mall - it's a hidden gem inside!
Be the first to ReplyOur one and only high-end Asian restaurant in Bay Area.
This cozy tiny place with 6-8 tables are always booked day and sometimes weeks ahead.Their monthly menu is Korean American fusion, which are well planned, prepared by their Korean team who will go all the way to justify the price and waitlist.Nice wine list and really good service. Will be back for sure
Be the first to ReplyHidden-gem fine dining experience in Santa Clara! We had
Hidden-gem fine dining experience in Santa Clara! We had such a great experience dining here, some highlights:- The menu is so creative, they switch it up every month/season so there's always something new to try. $79/person for the meal, with an option wine pairing at $49. I think that's a totally affordable price for what you get (4 course meal). It was a very tasteful way of creating korean fusion dishes, keeping the original flavors and ingredients but doing it with a twist.- The food was delicious! Each course was served by one of the chefs, who would come out and introduce the ingredients to us. I really liked that we could interact with the chefs in this way, made it feel more special- Squid mandu guk soup was delicious and the center cut bone-in porkchop was so tender. I was so full by the end of the meal - some reviews had mentioned that they thought the portions were too small but I could not disagree more, it was so much food!- The restaurant is small and intimate, we liked the vibe a lot. Only enough space for about 7 tables or so, but perfect for parties of 2. Some of the tables were a bit close together that you could easily hear the conversations going on next to you, but we got used to it after some time. The location can be a bit surprising though, it's hidden on the side of a shopping plaza.- The restaurant was opened up to the kitchen in the center where you could see the chefs at work. You could also see all the containers they stored the ingredients in and made their homemade kimchi, the kitchen felt very homey!- Reservations can be tricky to get, we had to book about a month in advance. Highly recommend for celebrating special occasions or a date night
Be the first to ReplyMy parents were in town visiting my brother for parents
My parents were in town visiting my brother for parents weekend at SCU. I've been wanting to try Restaurant Gish for over a year now, but it's nearly impossible to book (and is well above my pay-grade). Big thanks to my mom for making our reservation months in advance. The restaurant is dim and intimate, but shows off the kitchen well. The course-style menu is fixed, and all parties are served at the same time. Each dish was a modern American take on Korean food, pleasant on the palate and beautifully plated. Often times restaurants can over complicate the dish, losing its original foundation--but I really appreciated how the head chef was able to maintain the integrity of Korean cuisine. Job really well done by the team at Restaurant Gish!
Be the first to ReplyCame here celebrating a special occasion.
It was so delicious and such an enjoyable experience. The lamb loin tartare was soooooooo incredible, the flavor and texture and everything was truly amazing. The Thai curry was also amazing, those two items were both of our favorites. The main entree was enormous I literally couldn't finish it, very generous sizing. The dessert was also so yummy. I wish I could experience this meal all over again.

Food is def good, recipes are creative, kid next to us got a stuffed animal for finishing all her veg. I too finished all my veg but didnt get a stuff animal, oh well though. You can tell that there is a huge attention to detail in the cooking process, everything was prepared with the utmost care and patience. Really creative concepts were also employed when designing the dishes, definitely made the experience all the more enjoyable. Service was great, obviously, no suprises there. The kitchen crew did order a pizza at the end of the night which was pretty confusing, idk if the pizza was for us or for them but what a sight to behold. Anyways, this place definitely has a ton of potential in the future, gonna be even better than it is now. The pork tenderloin was among some of the most tender i've ever had in recent memory, certainly well done!

Try it if you can make reservation.
Be the first to ReplyAfter months of staying up way past my bedtime trying to
After months of staying up way past my bedtime trying to snag a reservation, along with impeccable reviews from friends and strangers, maybe my expectations were way too high or I just came on an off night.Out of four courses, only the second one (Dungeness crab chawamushi) was memorable. The first course (raw vegetables/salad) was fresh and the third (steak) was slightly bland (even with truffle) and overcooked--both just ... okay. I'm not a dessert person so I appreciated how light theirs was.We ordered a bottle of Moët and Chandon, the only champagne option we saw. The bottle wasn't opened tableside so by by the time she was pouring my glass and I caught eye of the bottle while mid conversation, I noticed it wasn't even Chandon. I thought, maybe there was another champagne on the menu since all we said was "the champagne". We had to Google the name as we've never heard of it. When the bill came, we were definitely charged for Chandon despite the one served wasn't the same price point.Since they're constantly changing their menu, I'm definitely up for trying again.

A hidden gem of a restaurant! The interior is very intimate with an open view of the kitchen. It was fairly challenging to get reservations. The food was delicious, a four course meal consisting of two appetizers, an entree, and a dessert. We added on a special skewer they had for the month. The flavors and presentation were both great. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience and definitely good value compared to other higher end restaurants.
