Food was just ok , kinda expected more - got the pre fix.
Service is great. About 5 min walk from parking lot, if you don't want to deal with trying to get something to eat at the Abbey then this is a good spot, although prices are comparable.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent tasting and beautifully prepared food, wine
Excellent tasting and beautifully prepared food, wine selection is narrow, but well done - we had the 2016 Chalet-Guillier St. Emilion Grand Cru - very nice! Our appetizers were very tasty and visually appealing, bread nice, sea bass the best I've had in France - so moist. Husbands steak was a "B- to C+". Food served fast and friendly. I would highly recommend if you are in the area!

You need a code to get through the gate. A phone call should get me a code, right? No. An automated message directs English speaking to press a number. Then you get a recording, in French, with what I'm guessing was a request to leave a message. Called back and went for the regular line. I got hung up on once then the man simply refused to be helpful. Should have been a sign of how the rest of the night would go. We parked in the paid parking for Mount St Michel and walked to the restaurant. Although nowhere near filled, they seemingly were hesitant to seat us. Yes, we had a reservation. They were turning away anyone that didn't have a reservation. So, it wasn't full but the servers were running around with, seemingly, no manager present. Finally realized there was another dining room that had a large group of at least 20 people. I think that group totally threw off the entire staff. We waited 15 minutes to get our drink and food order in. The food? Well, the entree took 45 minutes to arrive after we finished our starter. We were served before the table next to us that had been there before we arrived. My husband joked that we probably got their food. I thought my fish was not the right one. But, nobody came to check. Yeah, it was the other table's food we had been served and I wasn't served the right fish. No apologies. Was the food good? In a word, no. Bland would be the best description. The rice was just awful. Tasted like hospital food for someone on a restricted diet. Bathroom was absolutely filthy. I walked out without using it. I could go on and on about what was wrong. We were not the only table experiencing a less than acceptable meal. All around us were unhappy diners. I felt bad for the servers. It was so chaotic and there was no apparent leader helping to manage the room.

Be the first to ReplyI'm torn on how to review this restaurant because there are
I'm torn on how to review this restaurant because there are really two parts to this review, getting to the restaurant and the restaurant itself. I'll start with the getting there... The restaurant sits behind gates and you have to call on arrival to get a unique one time only code to open the gates. There are a few problems with this. First, there is zero cell service (at least from American phones) in this area so calling the restaurant on arrival like they ask isn't an option. Second, all the restaurants behind the gates have a list of the same codes so you may have to go through 2,3,5? codes to find one that will open the gate for you that wasn't previously used. We waited in a line of cars an hour long and every single car had the exact same issues. 95% of the people could not get through the gate. Since we had no cell service, I resorted to hopping out of the car and running to the restaurant to get the code and then back to my husband only to find the code didn't work...after 3 times of running the 1/4 mile each way we gave up and my husband parked in a lot 2 miles away and walked back. By this time our reservations were nearly 2 hours overdue. I was hot, tired, irritated beyond belief, and absolutely starving. The Restaurant We were seated without issue and the restaurant employees acted like our experience was not at all uncommon. They were very understanding of our late arrival and even seated us while we waited for my husband to park the car and walk the 2 miles back to the restaurant. Once he got there, everything changed. Our waiter brought cool water for the table, we ordered his recommendations and he was very knowledgeable of my celiac disease, gluten free needs. He recommended a wine based off of our dinner orders and I can honestly say it is the best wine I have ever had! My only regret was that I didn't take a picture and now cannot remember what it was! The carrot soup was incredible (warning, there is a bit of fois gras in the soup if you'd prefer to leave it off...that was a surprise I wish I had known. It was not listed at that time on the menu.). The meals were beautiful, filling, and delicious. The atmosphere is lovely. A very charming old French farm motif. The cost was very reasonable for the value of the meal we had. We all had creme brûlée for desert and it was as spectacular as the meal. We enjoyed every bit of this restaurant ONCE WE ALL MADE IT THROUGH THE DOOR. I truly hope the area can find a way to better accommodate the patrons of the restaurants. We almost just walked away out of frustration. I'm so glad we stuck with it. It was definitely worth it!

We heard the restaurants inside MSM are tourist ripoffs - overcrowded, over prices, and lacking in quality. So we decided to eat on the mainland before venturing to the island. Read good reviews about this place so decided to dine here. We ordered some seafood because we heard French people like to eat seafood during the winter Season. We notices many dishes include apples, the dessert was beautiful, we also ordered a bottle of Normandy's famous apples cider for our table.
Be the first to ReplyLa ferme St Michel is conveniently located near the parking
La ferme St Michel is conveniently located near the parking lot of the Mt Saint-Michel somewhat hidden from the main road. It is located in an old farmhouse that has been renovated and turned into a restaurant. The place is very spacious and decorated with paintings from local artists giving it a lot of charm. The restaurant is located outside of the Mt Saint Michel and is a lot less touristy than most restaurant you can find on the island. This was one of the best meal we had while in France. They offer à la carte options but I recommend choosing one of their menu which include an appetizer, your entree, and dessert. Some menu also include local cheese between your entree and dessert. The menu range from 22€ to 39€ which is to me very reasonable given the amount and quality of food you are offered. My wife got the "Menu visiteur" at 29€ including a starter of whelks and shrimp, a steak with sides, and a crème brûlée. I opted for the "Menu découverte" and picked the foie gras with prune chutney, seared duck breast, cheese plate with local cheeses, and a café gourmand with mini desserts. The menus are great values for their price, and you can pick between 3 menus depending on your mood and appetite! They also offer a children's menu for 10€. One little side note: the location provided on Yelp is not exactly accurate, we had to call the restaurant and get better directions to reach it. If you ever visit the Mt Saint Michel, do yourself a favor and skip the touristy restaurants on the island and choose "La ferme Saint michel" instead you won't be disappointed!

Be the first to ReplyCan't believe this place has such a high review.
Yes it's less touristy thats located right next to the parking lot, but we got out of the parking lot and there's no way to drive in the restaurant then we had to go back in and pay another parking fee to get to the restaurant. Just be aware, leave your car in the parking lot and walk over, otherwise you will pay another 14€. The place is like a fam house it does have its charm, but it was very quiet and no music, it gets awkward. The service was really really slow, we could barely get their attentions. Just waited there staring at each other until they come to pick up our empty plates. The duo lamb chops I ordered was not seasoned, and one was half size of the other one, I felt like I got ripped off. The lamb shoulder my friends ordered was really dry. Overall the quality was not good for what we are paying.
Be the first to ReplyDoesn't Ferme mean closed? It should.
..This is supposedly the best spot in the village. Really? I can't wait to see how bad everything else is going to be. I'm getting the impression that no one in the area feels the need to put anything beyond the minimum amount of effort. They know the abbey is a draw, people are going to come, and those people are going to need services and be held captive - literally, there's a gate locking you into the village, if you're staying in the area and you want to go dine somewhere else you have to pay to return. Based on my meal tonight, I don't see why you'd want to...The food. Mediocre at best. A little dish of snack mix - peanuts, raisins, pretzels - as an appetizer/amuse bouchée. Clearly off the shelf from the supermarket, would be fine if the bartender at your local dive put this in front of your when you saddled up to the bar - not what you expect at a fine dining restaurant in a French resort town. Bowl of day (or more) old baguette. We had to ask for butter, and it wasn't the transcendent French butter experience you hope for and/or expect. The carrot soup was fine. Good even. Light, delicate, evocative. The crunchy garlic toasts weren't visually appealing or an obvious pairing, but weren't bad either. The paper doily, however, was not necessary. The pork chop with roasted apples wasn't bad. But it didn't have any apples. In Normandy. Instead it was in some sort of indistinguishable sauce, served finely chopped mish mash of root veggies and a side of bland water steam table rice. Again, no roasted apples. The duo of apple desserts were almost indescribably bad. Some sort of getalinous apple thing - supposedly a terrine? - and a Norman apple cake that was just tasteless and generally off putting. All of this served on top of what I thought was a decoration on chocolate syrup, back was actually some sort of attempt at a caramel sauce that tasted of nothing but burnt sugar. No one refilled our water. Or inquired if I wanted a second drink. My wife's meal - lamb shoulder, over the same veggie mess, with potato gratin - was dry. So dry. Her creme brûlée was runny. And I don't know how they expected her to eat desserts served in espresso cups with an oversized spoon. Other tables were left a mess - bottles of generic ketchup turned over, half eaten plates, napkins on chairs, on the floor - for us to look at for the bulk of the evening. For the entire evening we were entertained by someone's first attempt at a PowerPoint deck, talking about all of the features of the resort, but instead of providing details on where to go for the spa experiences or gastronomic adventures, instead they just experimented with every transition plugin that should never be used in a professional environment. They didn't have enough steak knifes for all of the customers - at the 4 tables that were being used - or chose not to give them out with the shoe leather steaks. Music was a recording of John Lennon covers performed on a pennywhistle. Again. This is the best place in town. Viva la resistance.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best meals I've had in France so far.
The restaurant offers a selection of prix fixe choices or a la carte offerings. The wait staff were terrific and the food was fantastic. It was also a nice change from most of the price gouging restaurants directly within Saint Michel. Definitely worth the small walk from the shuttle stop.

La Ferme was one of the best dining experiences we had in our multi-week visit to France. The food was delicious, service superb and setting beautiful! I definitely recommend walking over if staying on the island or nearby.
