A gem in Malaga, away from the busy center on a nondescript square, but really worth a visit.
You can't help but give this restaurant a high rating. Perfect beef and Iberico and a variety of delicious wines at a very acceptable price. Top
Be the first to ReplyIt was, it was included in the Michelin Guide years ago. Not the quality you expect when you see that sign at the entrance.
First surprise upon arrival, the prices that appeared on the menu were different from those on their website. There was a difference of 4-5 euros more expensive per dish. We asked the waiter and they informed us that they had raised the prices by 10% but had not updated it on their website. At no time did they suggest respecting the prices on the website or giving us a discount due to poor information on their part. We expected to enjoy a good meal but of all the dishes (we were 8 people), none of us was satisfied. The meat dishes were all equally done even though I ordered two of those medium-rare. The meat (sirloin and entrecote) was not good, which is what one expects when paying more than €20 per plate. The only positive thing was the waiter who was attentive to us at all times and the fact that since there were so many people, they gave us a table in a separate area from the rest of the diners.
Be the first to ReplyAn ok place, just nothing special for us
Nice food and wine and decent service. Nothing awful but nothing terrific either. Unfortunately the didn't have our chosen starter but it did take a while for them to let us know and then we had to decide on an alternate - it was ok just nothing special. It was a pleasant lunch but we were stuck in the back of the restaurant where there was one other table occupied with a group of business colleagues. Sadly no atmosphere and not the cheapest lunch we've had.
Be the first to ReplyIncomprehensible and incredible
But what awareness of the restaurant ???????gambas à la plancha, fish à la plancha with 21 fries, ganbas = cooked shrimps???? Sprinkled with salt!!!!!!!!!!!! Long live tourism
Be the first to ReplyNice Spanish restaurant
Nice little family restaurant - super service and good traditional Spanish food at reasonable prices! Nice wine list at very reasonable prices.
Be the first to ReplyTypical
Restaurant frequented by more locals than tourists. This means that we serve real products Top service On the other hand, note a little salty
Be the first to ReplyBest meal of our trip
Absolutely brilliant, authentic dinner in fabulous surroundings, such a find. Service, ambience, food and wine all excellent.
Be the first to ReplyHighly recommended!
Great food and service, and a very warm welcome from the owner Juanma Ramirez. A short taxi ride from Malaga Centro but well worth the visit. We liked it so much we went back twice!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent restaurant with very friendly staff
We had a great meal here sitting outside in the very active plaza. The food and wine were of superb quality, but the thing that makes this restaurant really special is the warmth and helpfulness of the staff
Be the first to ReplyGreat place for date night or a quiet little dinner.
This is a great little place for date night or just a quiet dinner for two. We chose to sit indoors due to the heat that night - doesn´t bother the locals but us "gringos" like the AC. If you sit outside, you can order from the tapa´s menu (they´ll also let you if you sit inside but don´t advertise it). To start with, the wine selection is huge and reasonable - we had a great bottle of Rioja for €34. The food is excellent. We shared an appetizer of salmon tartar with avacado then a dinner for two of Osso Buco (a hair skimpy on the meat - but- deliceous) followed by the house version of creme brulle and coffee - total, without tip, €100. I consider it reasonable for the excellent quality of the food (full menu of meats and seafood), service, and friendlyness of the staff. We´ll be going again (only 20 minute walk from home) and again!!
Be the first to ReplyThank God For Figon
We were beginning to despair with regards to the food we had sampled in Malaga but fortunately all was rescued today 14/03/2023 ! Lunch at the seafood market in town was absolute bliss, Grilled Octopus, Salmon and Prawns were excellent, washed down with a bottle of beautiful Banco. Then our evening at the wonderful family ran Figon. The staff were friendly and could not do enough for you. We had a complimentary entree as we were seated and it was gorgeous ? We had the hot peppers to start and they were lovely, along with an omelette combo to die for. For our mains I had the grilled hake and my beautiful wife, the salted cod, utterly gorgeous and cooked to perfection. We shared a cheese cake ( the nicest I’ve ever eaten by the way ) and washed it down with two bottles of superb white and a very beautiful house brandy. This restaurant is off the beaten tourist track and it’s 34 years old, it’s very good and we were just delighted to find it, having tried others in Soho we hoped would be good and they just weren’t . We are going back on our return from Ronda, Cordoba and Granada, for our last night in Malaga, prior to our flight home, thank you Figon xx

Lovely, charming restaurant. The food was very fresh and local. The ambience was lovely. I particular enjoyed the anchovies. I would recommend a short walk here if you are staying in the Old Town. The service was wonderful.
Be the first to ReplyHighlight during our stay in Malaga
We enjoyed our dinner as well as 2 years ago (November 2021). The quality of the dishes and service is outstanding. We recommend this restaurant off-site tourism path.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent and unpretentious
I always make a point to eat here when I travel to Malaga. The food, service and wine are always excellent. When warm enough, it is delightful to sit outside. The fresh fish and seafood are excellent and the wine list is as well, full of great choices at reasonable prices. Chloe, a chardonnay made in Ronda, is terrific. Juanma is always welcoming.
Be the first to ReplyTop choice in Malaga
I was in Malaga for a few days earlier this month and made certain to visit Figon de Juan. I had dinner here two nights in a row, sitting outside in very pleasant weather. The food are wine were excellent and the service from Juanma at the highest standard.
Be the first to ReplyLovely little restaurant in Málaga
My wife and I had a lovely experience at this delightful small Málaga restaurant. The neighbourhood is drab, but inside the ambiance is very pleasant. We were greeted warmly by Juanma, the second-generation owner, who served us with assistance from his 78-year-old father Juan, the founder. The place was empty when we arrived at 8:00 but filled up quickly. After three weeks in Málaga, this may have been my best meal. I had the squid, about a dozen tasty rings plus a grilled baby squid. My wife had an excellent dish of cod. Some very good restaurants here give you French fries or a bit of vegetable - my plate included some nice roasted potatoes with onion and peppers and a small salad of chopped cabbage and carrot with a nice sauce on top, sort of like a cole slaw but better. The chocolate mousse was excellent. I picked out a bottle of Crianza, just guessing really. When I told Juanma that it was very nice, he said it was I who selected it, a nice complement even if I had no idea what I was picking. Juanma was a very gracious and friendly host. We highly recommend this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyWorst experience in years
Worst restaurant experience in many years.
The food was plain at best, looked like the plates we used to serve as students : a slice of palm heart on an endive leaf with a few tuna chunks, half raw French fries, no seasoning, many things seemed to come straight from the can, some creamy dessert that made the few people who tried it nauseous.
I can't understand why Michelin would even survive such a place.
Very good product and excellent staff
We have been several times and it always deliver. Excellent quality of the product and an exceedengly helpful and professional staff that enhances the enjoyment of whatever you are eating. Their strong suit are pieces of fish and meat plainly cooked which they know how to handle. In very few cases they go into something more elaborate, like a broth of cow tail. In these cases you can be sure that the result is outstanding. For starters they do not have too much variety or imagination, again the best shot is going for whatever is based mostly on the quality of the product (mushrooms or shellfish) and not on fancy cooking. Price is good for what is offered, particularly on the wine front, where the markups are very considerate. A good restaurant to sample expensive wines.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent home-cooked food in this delightful family-run restaurant
As other reviewers have said, don't be put off by the surroundings - in the middle of a housing estate. Keep going, this restaurant is definitely worth it!
Don't be expecting glitzy, glossy décor, this wonderful little place is a very traditional, family-run restaurant with excellent, friendly, attentive service and a good range of delicious home-cooked food. The restaurant also has a great wine list, with many of the wines proudly displayed on a wall to ceiling wine rack in the middle of the restaurant. For our mains, we had the hake with clams & asparagus and the whole leg of lamb. Both dishes were superb, especially with the wines recommended by the house.
We really enjoyed our visit - we felt very welcomed, we ate and drank very well and left very contented.
Thank you Restaurante Figon De Juan!
Great choice
I had dinner two nights in a row. The service is excellent and the food quite good. I believe the menu has been expanded since my last visit two years ago and now includes more meat dishes. I had seafood both nights and thought is was excellent. Servers are exceptionally warm and welcoming.
Be the first to ReplyNice and cosy but nothing really special
Nice interior but the food was not bibgourmand. We had to wait 10 minutes from sitting down till there was a waitress. The stuffed mussels. were nothing special. The lamb nice but came only with chips no vegetables. The tuna ok but nothing special. I wouldn’t have thought it eas a bib gormand restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyTasty dishes and friendly service
We find this cozy restaurant during our stay in Malaga. For us, it is the best place in Malaga for lunch or dinner off the beaten tourist path, but easy to reach from the center, less than a 10 Minutes walk from 'El Corte Ingles'. We had typical starters like Iberian ham, fied anchovies, garlic soup and everthing was great in taste and presentation. For the main course we had beef tenderloin, lamb leg, grilled sqid and lamb chops, we can recommend all the dishes. Also the tangerine sorbet, rice pudding, chocolate mousse and creme catalan were delicious. Last but not least we had very good recommendations for the choose of correspondending wine. The landlord and his staff were very polite and attentive, we were treated friendly. So we are looking forward for our next visit!
