I was in NYC on a Sunday and the #2 ranked pizza spot in the world (actually #3 because there was a tie for #1) Una was closed. Luckily for me, Ribalta was open and was also ranked in the Top 10. This restaurant is located near Greenwich Village, a short walk from Washington Park. Upon walking in, I was mildly dissapointed and somewhat skeptical. The interior design looked more like something out of a beachside town like Santa Monica, CA. Kind of modern-coastal vibes with lots of white and neon. It just looks like a touristy spot ... and worse yet, the faux leather benches were torn and flaking in spots and covered in somewhat iffy throw pillows. I am glad that I did not judge a book by its cover. As a somewhat expert on Neopolitan pizza, I've had the best in the world in Naples ... and the top rated ones in the US. I still put Pasquale's in Rhode Island towards the top spot, along with Naples offshoot Pizzaria Antical di Michelle in West Hollywood, CA. (The NYC offshoot closed) From a purely pizza standpoint, I'd put Ribalta in my top 10 or 15. You'll never get cheese as good as the Fior di Latte in Naples. It's otherworldly and, it seems, impossible to recreate. The sauce at Ribalta is made with cherry tomatoes from near Mount Vesuvius and I'd believe it because the sauce is as good as any I've ever had on a pizza. The crust gets an 8.5 - 9. It's light and airy ... somewhat floppy in the middle and good enough that you'll want to eat the crust. While a very solid recreation of Neopilitan pizza, it lacks perfection in a few ways: - The ingredients are good but something was just off. This is not to say it wasn't great pizza ... I'd still put it in my top 10 - 15 US pizzas. However, maybe the ratio of cheese/sauce/basil was slightly off. It seemed a tad dry. Not sure why ... maybe a bit more cheese was needed, or a spritz of oil. - Obviously, things in NYC are going to be more expensive. I won't compare the value of this to Naples, where $12 buys you a pizza and a beer. After tip, a single Margherita pizza (not even bufalo mozerella) and beer was almost $50. That's just a lot to pay for a pizza. Overall, while I wasn't impressed with the decor, the pizza was a solid 9 ... if you like authentic Neopiltian pizza. If you are looking for NYC style pizza ... this isn't it. I have heard that John's nearby is the spot for NYC style pizza, although I wasn't that impressed and would choose Prince Street Pizza for NYC style pizza. I would return here if I was craving Neopilitan style pizza, if not for the sauce alone, although the world is catching up to Naples.

Not just a pizza place. It's so much more. The drinks prepared y will the bartender were insane. I love gin and thought I knew a lot about different types but he took it to another level. Great food good prices. Friendly staff
Be the first to ReplyMy family and I have been going to Ribalta for years.
It's been one of our favorites and staples. Until the last 5-6 months. We had never had a bad dish until then. I don't know what's changed but the last two times we've ordered in and the last time we ate at the restaurant there have been serious quality issues. I think we may be done after tonight's meal. My chicken Milanese was so tough and unsalted. Our spaghetti Al pomodoro was chewy bland and basically inedible. Our pizza margarita was average at best. And I went to pick it up to avoid any concern about it being delayed during delivery. We're soooooo disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyHad a great meal here with family.
We thought we might be ordering too much food but the portions are on the small side with the exception of the pizza. The meatballs were light and airy, the pastas fresh with scrumptious sauces, the Brussels sprouts cooked perfectly and the pizza crust was out of this world. We were tucked away in a corner so it was a little quieter. Would definitely go back!

I came here on a double date and thankfully we had a reservation. We had a table by the bar so there was def a lot of foot traffic. We ordered a bottle of red wine from their pretty extensive wine list. I ordered the Truffle Gnocci pasta and it was soOOoOO delicious! I'm aware that they are known for their Neopolitan pizza, but I was def feeling more pasta vibes and they did not disappoint. By the time we ordered our checks there was a line out the door and almost looked impossible to make it through the crowd to exit (very chaotic!) When we were literally signing our checks another waiter (not the one who served our table) came by to inform us that they needed to seat other parties. I am aware that most establishments prefer patrons to dine for 90-120 minutes and due to the efficient service we were closing in on about 60-75 mins of dining time. This was completely unprofessional in my opinion as we were literally signing our checks to leave so I wish he had been more situationally aware to notice that we were preparing to leave Ribalta. Between this encounter and the lack of managing the chaotic front line properly I have decided that Ribalta is overhype. If one ever *has* to visit then I recommend making a reservation and preferably not go close to dinner time, but for me and my house -- we are good on Ribalta! Also, forgot that we ordered dessert. It was okay!

So...we managed to get same day reservations, which is awesome when you're only in town for a quick weekend. We aimed for Una Pizza Napoletana but they ran outta dough. Happily walked into Ribalta, got seated, and ordered meatballs and Brussels to start. Not a great start. Meatballs were decent, nothing to write home about. Brussel sprouts were soggy and didn't have a lot of flavour. All that being said, we know the reason to come is for the pizza, and it did not disappoint. I allowed server to help with selection, in which case he up charged with a 'build your own'. It was still delicious - but could have done without all the add-ons. For dessert we had mascarpone and YUM, that was amazing! Order it if you have the space in your belly! Dropped stars for the below average appetisers and upsell without knowledge of extra charges. Service - well, for 'Europe', pretty standard.

I heard how amazing the gf crust was here so I wanted to check it out. The gluten free crust was fluffy and I couldn't even tell it was gluten free. The vegan cheese was sticky but still pretty good. Both vegan cheese and gluten free crust are each $6 which is quite expensive. The ambience was interesting, I found the lighting too harsh and the tables were so long that I felt so far from my date. Overall I had a nice time though.

Got takeout - amazing tasty pizza, am looking forward to trying their other pizzas soon.
Be the first to ReplyFood was ok.
I had the chicken parm. Service was fine. But it was LOUD. We were there with a big group and had specifically asked whether the music would be too loud for us to talk. I couldn't even hear the person directly across from me.
Be the first to Replybest pizza in NYC.
Neapolitan style pizza, not NYC slice. So goo and authentic though.

Went on Wed afternoon around 4pm - not too busy although there were 4 or 5 tables seated. Interior was nice and service was good. We had the brussel sprouts for an app, which could have used a few more minutes in the oven but tasted good. Had a glass of Nero d'Avola wine from Sicily which was very good.My husband and I got 2 of the smaller pizza's - Napoletana Rossa DOC and 1 with pepperoni. This pizza has a very thin crust in the middle and puffy crust on the outside. Middle got soggy it was so thin but towards the outside, it firmed up a bit and the perimeter crust (cornicione) was delicious just on its own. If I just wanted pizza only, I liked Una Pizza Napoletana alittle better. If I wanted a broader menu ( an app, maybe a cocktail), Ribalta would be my choice.
Be the first to ReplyThis place was great.
Super busy! Came here on a Tuesday and it was a packed house. We had a reservation but came early and they suggested we sit at the bar. Which in hindsight was a great suggestion. The bartender, Will is world class at bartending. I had the Margherita pizza with mushrooms and it didn't disappoint. The pizza was fantastic! Would Definitely return but a reservation is a must. Prices are fair and the ambiance is modern and chique.

Nice modern Italian restaurant! I came with a big group so we ordered several pizzas and salads to share. The pizza crust was great and each one was better than the next. Only downside was their inability to accommodate our party size. We had an uneven number so they seated us at two different height tables in a weird spot and only after 3 asks and another party leaving did they make an easy shift to allow us to all be around the same table.

Be the first to ReplyWhen you're bumping into Italians at an Italian restaurant
When you're bumping into Italians at an Italian restaurant you know you've just found a hidden gem. Actually this restaurant is well known, it was just hidden to me and now I wish it was still hidden because the truffle pizza is mouth watering. Trust me, I know my truffles. What you also need to know is that I'm not a big pizza fan but this place puts pizza to a whole new level. It's truly a taste of art if you love cheese, truffles, highly quality flour (imported from Italy) and lots of flavor to your pizza. Chicago style pizza is not my thing so if you love thin Napoletana style (From Naples, Italy) with a fluffy decadent crust, this is your game. I guess this is how pizza fans dream about their NYC pizza. I used to wonder why a New Yorkers last meal would be a slice of NYC pizza - I wonder no more.

Great gluten free pizza! Wish the menu offered more selections for build your own pizza but the salad and pizza hit the spot. It's not celiac friendly, they were up front about cross contamination so look elsewhere.

The ambiance of this restaurant was great, the food was delicious and service also really good. The starters we had outshined the pizza a bit, but all were good regardless!

OB. SESSED. That is all... (get the truffle pizza, best decision I've ever made). BUT, make sure to make a reservation!
Be the first to ReplyUnfortunately, the only thing that was good about this
Unfortunately, the only thing that was good about this almost twenty dollar 4 slice pie was the crust. The sauce lacked flavor

Unfortunately really bad service at this spot-- 2 times now! Do not recommend. We had a reservation, we told them we were celebrating a birthday and had been at our table for less than one hour and were asked to get up and leave?! Because it was "busy on a Saturday" and they "had people waiting for tables" ?! When the assistant manager came over to tell us this, we had already asked for the check and were waiting on the cappuccino we ordered. We still left a full tip for the waiter bc it wasn't his fault. We talked again to the assistant manager and told him how disappointing it was and that we wouldn't be returning. They paid zero attention to our special occasion and didn't communicate any type of time restriction on the reservation. Asking folks to give up their table is pretty bad service especially when it was 1 hour and also never communicated. Not how you treat customers. My partner and I have both worked in the industry for quite some time and would never do that to someone. We have been many times now in the past 2 years and sadly, will not be returning.

This restaurant is on the top 100 World wide for Neapolitan pizza. We had a pizza Ross's with anchovies, mushrooms and shaved black truffles. It was as good and possibly better than any pizza we have had in Napoli!Service is great as is the ambience
Be the first to ReplyLet's just say the service was the best part of our dinner
Let's just say the service was the best part of our dinner experience. The food was truly disappointing. The eggplant parmigiana had mozzarella that was chewy like gum. Must have been a cheap, subpar product. The chicken milanese was terrible. Seemed like a frozen, pre-battered cutlet that was the toughest chicken breast we've ever had. Not pounded and awful. We were going to return it but didn't have time to wait for an alternative. And the pizza was ok, not great. Soggy, not crispy despite asking that they make them crisp. We were frankly surprised there was a wait for tables. If it wasn't for descent service I would give this joint a star, maybe 2.
Be the first to ReplyNote if pasta fan: Get the ragu.
It's fantastic. Also a good cocktail menu. Desserts are quite good also.I was here with a bunch of others a while ago on a cold winter day. The service was pleasant and the food overall was good though I would say that there are certain dishes that are definitely more worth it for the price. Note that the pizzas are Neapolitan Style which means they are a little bit less filling then your usual slice. As we wanted various things, a good amount of the menu was tried from appetizers to entrees to a good mix of desserts. A special note goes to their very nice cocktail selection. As someone who is a big fan of amaro as well as other Italian aperitifs and digestives, they have a very nice selection. While I cannot remember the exact name of the cocktail I had outside of it being a pun on it including figs, it was a wonderful cocktail in case you want something on the bitter end with a sweet aftertaste.I personally started with: Brussels Sprouts- Pancetta, Pecorino Romano DOP, and Parsley ($14) There was a good portion for the price though the pancetta pieces were a little bit too thin so it didn't really add much to the texture and I think that there wasn't enough either but the cheese was pleasant. Maybe they should offer a version without pancetta for 10 or something?Other people had the octopus (Polpo Alla Luciana) which I didn't try of course, a salad (Rughetta I believe) which was fine and another person had the eggplant. I was surprised how small this dish was compared to mine but the but I tried was good but I definitely wouldn't recommend it especially at 18$. I believe the person also had the meatballs but I'm not sure and I definitely don't remember trying anything else. In terms of main dishes, another person and I basically split two pizzas (Borbone/Nobile) and others had a variety of things.Borbone- Imported Fior di Latte, Eggplant, Hot Salame, Ricotta ($21) This was very tasty with a good red sauce. The eggplant had a good texture and there was plenty of salame/salami on each of the different pieces. I guess my only complaint is that the pizza was perhaps a bit wet from the various ingredients.Nobile- Imported Fior di Latte, Gorgonzola, Truffle Sauce, Shaved Black Truffle ($26)This was also good though as usual, I prefer red pizzas over white. The gorgonzola added a sharpness and it paired well with the truffle sauce. I was pleasantly surprised that the combination didn't overwhelm the pizza and overall it was good also though I'm not sure if it was worth it for the price.Mafaldine al Ragu Napoletano- Slow Cooked Tomato Ragu With Pork and Beef ($26 or $30 with ricotta.)Another person had this and I wish I got it. As a fan of ragu from a variety of places, this was a very good version. Perhaps the meat was cooked almost a little bit too much as there wasn't much texture but the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. If I was to go back here, I will get said pasta and a cocktail and maybe dessert and be a very happy person.Straccetti Di Manzo- Sauteed Veal Stripes Served with Arugula and Aged Balsamic Vinegar ($28) This was perfectly fine also. Pretty big portion of veal though I would say this was probably one of the lightest tasting veal dishes I have ever had from an Italian spot. Perfectly fine but not worth it for the price. After dinner basically everyone had dessert outside of one person who had the very humorous named cocktail "Pineapples on Pizza." I believe all these deserts were $10 outside of maybe the gelato being cheaper. The following were ordered:Cassata: In this case it resembles photos of Cassatella di Sant'Agata specifically. Cassata is a sponge cake made with marzipan. This was a pleasant version outside of being a little bit too sweet. I prefer a stronger almond flavor in cassata/marzipan but it was fine.Frutti di Bosco: Pastry with strawberries and fresh fruits this was the biggest portion of any dessert here and the style was different but I really don't have a complaint for either. If you're looking for a refreshing tasty dessert, order this. Quite good.Tiramisu: I can see why a lot of people order this. Excellent tiramisu. No real complaints.Marscapone with strawberries: Did not try this but they liked it.Chocolate gelato: Did not try this but they liked it.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced and mediocre pasta.
Tiny cocktails with big price tags. And while we were in the middle of our second drink, we were told "okay! Next reservation is here!" I hope that party went elsewhere because Ribalta was not worth their time or money. Find another spot.
