The price we paid, did match what came to the table.
Do not order, family size meals. Order for 4, got food for 2!

Was pretty hyped to finally try Rodney Scott's after
Was pretty hyped to finally try Rodney Scott's after watching his Netflix documentary. All the meats and sides were seasoned very well but they cooled down and ended up being kinda dry when we got home.I think it would've been amazing if it was fresh but unfortunately that happens when you get food to go. Everything was still very good flavor wise and the barbecue sauces were great, if you like more a vinegary style. Would def come back!

Dry and flavorless pork
After having heard about this place in southern living and watching it on chefs table, I had high hopes. The bbq pork was DRY and flavorless. There were 3 sauces to add and were definitely required to add any taste. Thankfully The Mac n cheese and potato salad were both tasty. They were sold out of their Apple pies so we ordered banana pudding. The cost was $7 and It had no bananas. It was basically vanilla pudding with crunchy vanilla wafers. I really wanted to like this place, but it’s a big NO for me.

As a teen who doesn't like much and has a low spice tolerance, I got the 3 piece chicken tenders were amazing. I also tried the hush puppies which were good. The Mac and cheese are great for kids and the fries are delicious.

Not that Rodney Scott's BBQ in Charleston needs another
Not that Rodney Scott's BBQ in Charleston needs another highly rated review here on Yelp, but I can't help myself. We were visiting the area for my wife's birthday/our anniversary and I knew one of the places that I had to eat at was Rodney Scott's. The best part is this restaurant did not disappoint.I had studied the menu before visiting but my wife had not yet, so when we arrived we grabbed a menu and ended up having a conversation with one of the customers in line who swore by the smoked turkey. Now, I LOVE BBQ but never heard anyone praise the turkey so much before and so I was curious about it. When we ordered, we met Noella (sp?) who was awesome. My wife asked a few questions, and Noella suggested we get the pit master combo, so that we could try a bit of everything since we knew we wanted ribs, brisket, and whole hog, plus a variety of sides, and since the turkey was recommended, we could try that along with the chicken. So the plan was set. While talking to Noella, she said we could go to the back and smoker if we wanted before we ate or after. We decided to grab a table and head to the back where she walked us in. She also came to check on us a few times when we got our food which was nice to ensure all was well.In the back where the "magic" was happening we met pitmaster Stacey (sp?) who was kind enough to give us a quick tour and chat. He also gave us a recommendation for our next stop after Charleston which was Myrtle Beach. As I mentioned, I love bbq and hearing from the pitmaster working in the back and seeing the inner workings was pretty amazing. Thank you, Stacey for being so friendly, informative, and kind. When we got back into the dining area, our food was ready and waiting for us. I will say I was blown away. The turkey really was as amazing as billed by the gentleman in line with us. It may have been my favorite item but everything we had was delicious. My wife loves ribs and she truly enjoyed them at Rodney Scott's. The whole hog was perfect, and the brisket so tasty. For sides, we had coleslaw, mac & cheese, potato salad, and corn bread. We finished the meal with some banana pudding. Now, as you can guess from the size of the pitmaster combo, we did not finish (I know, boo!), so we took a few boxes to go and all leftovers were eaten a few days later...and was still delicious and smoky. My mouth is watering just thinking about our meal here (and I just ate).As you can guess, I would definitely come back here to eat again. I have to give extra kudos to the staff for the great service, especially Noella and Stacey who both went above and beyond.

Born and raised in the Lowcountry and this is my favorite BBQ restaurant in Charleston. Nothing fancy just good food.

Nice staff and solid food as you'd expect.
Hog roll is amazing. Also the iced tea is great.

We had a great lunch at Rodney Scott's BBQ.
The food was delicious and the service outstanding. The management was amazingly attentive. We even got to meet Rodney who is charming and friendly. Us northerners learned what southern hospitality means today at Rodney Scott's.
🙂
Fast service and great food.

They were very crowded when we arrive but the line moved swiftly. The staff seemed friendly and helpful - clearly used to tourists. :-) The location was a bit off the bra then path but well worth the Uber. Will definitely visit again when we return to the area!

Stopped by Rodney Scott's BBQ on a recent trip to Charleston. They're an order at the counter and they'll bring your meal to your table kind of situation. You can sit outside or in--not to worry, they'll find you! We ordered our meals along with a fountain drink and then made our way to their patio. There's seating on the patio and there's additional outdoor seating by their driveway. So, even if it looks busy inside (which it was!), if it's a pleasant day, there's plenty of seating. We ordered an order of their hush puppies to share and then my dining companion got their loaded tater truck and I opted for their burger (which they recommend as a fave on their menu). Let's start with the hush puppies. In a word? Perfection. They were just the right amount of sweet with just the right lightly crispy outside. My goodness. they were delicious. You can get orders of four or six. We opted for four (and even though they're plenty big--they were so good I was left wishing we'd gotten six!I was kinda expecting a big, juicy smoky burger and their burger is more of a smashed patty. I'm not complaining. It was good but just not what I was expecting and didn't have the smoky flavor I associate with bbq burgers. For my side, I got their mac and cheese. It was plenty cheesy! We enjoyed the option of dining outdoors and their service was lovely in every way.Get to it!

This is a must try in Charleston - the BBQ is well cooked
This is a must try in Charleston - the BBQ is well cooked and seasoned, generous portions and a lot of different varieties of sides.
🤮
This barbecue was terrible.
I have had barbecue all over the country. This is by far the worst barbecue I have ever had. None of the barbecue had a smoky flavor, it was tough and the sweet Kathy’s sauce was awful. I have had better sauce at McDonalds. If this is really the best BBQ in Charleston don’t waste your time.
Ordered a shredded chicken sandwich and Mac and cheese. Both were excellent, and I was surprised at the speed of service. Cool environment to dine in!
Great bbq, everything we tried was delicious, but omg try the apple pies - unbelievably good. Staff very nice and and plenty of parking too.
THe place was packed with a line out the door---but with good reason. Melt-in-your mouth ribs. Crispy wings. Stacked stuffed potato. Fabulous cornbread. OMG.
Absolutely wonderful barbecue, brisket, hush puppies, everything! The whole hog barbecue is done right there, and you can see it in process. Highly recommend.
🙂
First stop from the airport!
We stopped in to Rodney Scott's on our way into Charleston last week from the airport. It was quieter, but still busy, in the mid-afternoon. Pork shoulder and ribs were just delicious, as were the collards and mac and cheese. Would recommend.
😍
Great space and good food
Great atmosphere and delicious food! We ordered the 3 meat combo to give a few things a try. Ribs are not overly seasoned but have a great char. They were moist and a nice bit of meat. Additional seasoning and sauces are on the table. Brisket was great! The corn bread delicious. The atmosphere was clean, the team well organized. We recommend you give it a try if you’re in town.
We beat the dinner rush…just barely. Thankfully we got a table. While the bbq was good (I got the pork!), it was the sides that won me over. The Mac and cheese and hush puppies with honey butter made me forget all about the meat. Add in Ella’s banana pudding and wow!
We were surprised at the quality of our meat at this BBQ restaurant. The brisket was so tough that it could hardly be cut with a knife. The pulled pork shoulder was very very dry. To top it off, the banana pudding was laughable. It was a very large serving of vanilla pudding, but mine had only one small piece of vanilla wafer and one slice of banana in the serving. On the other hand the sides and cornbread were very good. I don’t believe anyone in our group will ever cross the threshold of this over rated restaurant again.
😍
Delicious! Great atmosphere great service.
Employees looked happy! Food was so so good! Best collard greens I have ever eaten in my life, must get! The flys were annoying but that's not the restaurant's fault
😍
While on vacay down in Charleston this was #1 on my list of
While on vacay down in Charleston this was #1 on my list of places to eat at. Did not disappoint at all. The chicken and bbq were both smoked to perfection and the Alabama white sauce was incredible. The sides were amazing too the Mac n cheese and collard greens were some of the best ever. Do yourself a favor and definitely stop by if your in the area.
We were excited to have southern bbq for dinner. While we were in line at Raymond Scott’s on King Street, another patron told us not to order the pork because it was very dry. So, we ordered a platter with brisket and Turkey instead. The absolute driest meat we’ve eaten. Not inexpensive either. $80 for 2 of us, not to mention that we spent almost $20 in Ubers to get there and back to our hotel when we could have gone elsewhere instead. Save your money and don’t bother. The employees were Informative and knowledgeable and kept the restaurant clean.
🤢
We were very disappointed in our lunch here last Friday.
I love his story, read his cookbook cover to cover, and love his family barbecue place in Hemingway where the barbecue is excellent! I had been wanting to come here for years. I got the barbecue sandwich with coleslaw and mac-n-cheese. The pork was absolutely bland. It was moist but had no flavor at all! The barbecue sauce they have on the table helped, but we drove 2 hours for the smoky whole hog flavor that is advertised, and it was nowhere to be found. The mac-n-cheese was good. Hubby got the brisket plate which was good but not great - and definitely not as good as we were expecting. Very disappointing. There are too many great places in Charleston to eat, so we probably won't go back. I'm sure we hit it on an off day. Good thing for us is that the Hemingway barbecue is only an hour away!
🙂
Our first meal in Charleston.
Sadly the brisket and turkey were out so we got the two meat platter with pork, chicken, mac & cheese and fries. We also got the wings with Alabama sauce and these were by far the best thing we ate. Don't sleep on these, they're spiced to perfection and the sauce is just the cherry on top. Wasn't impressed by the meat platter chicken, definitely needed spices and sauce. Pork was really good and tender. Mac & cheese was average but the fries were pretty good. What really tainted the experience for me was the flies, they were relentless outside and there was no seating inside. Seems like an easy problem to solve with some fly tape but highly recommend waiting for a seat inside so you're not swatting the whole meal.
Loved this spot. Staff was welcoming and attentive. I had the chopped salad and added the smoked Turkey. Turkey is my go to when smoking. It's was balanced and juicy. I added their house BBQ sauce and it was the most memorable sauce I ever had. I even added it to my fries! Sold out of apple pie so hope to try it on my next visit. Fellow Road Warriors do not miss this one!

Don't be in a hurry 45 minute wait
Good BBQ but very poor service. Young woman working the take out window was too busy socializing to keep up with orders. Won't go again. Lewis BBQ pleasant server's better BBQ
😒
Came to visit the renowned Rodney Scott's BBQ joint.
We went on a Monday lunch hour. We had a group of eight. I had high expectations and left slightly underwhelmed. Their Internet was down, and that meant extra long lines. We waited, nearly 40 minutes to order food. They were out of at least three dishes that I tried to order. I'm not sure what about the Internet being down caused such a back up. It seemed like the bottleneck was the one person working a register while 2 supervisors stood around.I've got to say that my entire group agreed that my backyard pork butt has better consistency and flavor than this did. The pork was cold, flavorless, and was mushy. I took a quarter pound home and heated it up. It was much better warm. Maybe the Wi-Fi took out their warmers too.The Pork skins, french fries, baked beans, and brisket were excellent. The mac & cheese was OK, but nothing notable.
😍
This BBQ wasn't on my list till I talked to some locals
This BBQ wasn't on my list till I talked to some locals about the ribs. Then after looking it up and realizing that Rodney Scott won a james beard award in 2018 for his whole hog cook, I had to try it while I was in the area. After trying the food I was amazed that it only had 4 stars on Yelp...come on! This has to be one of the best BBQ plates I've ever had. The pork...amazing. I used the original sauce with a touch of pork rub. I also tasted it without anything and you could taste Catherine slight smokiness of the the hickory. The vinegar based sauce complimented it well and gave it a slight spice. The chicken...small portion, but spectacular! The flavor was perfect as it was cooked. It was tender and juicy enough so it wasn't dry, but crisp enough on the outside. It paired perfectly with the Alabama white BBQ sauce. The ribs were and extra $4.99, but so worth it! They had plenty of rub on them, the fat was rendered out for the most part. I didn't need any extra sauce or rub on these bad boys, but I did try them all. I would say the original or the Alabama complimented the ribs the best for my palate. Collard greens were very tasty and had bit of meat in the greens as well. I'm assuming it was ham hocks. Cole slaw was great and refreshing with the bbq meats. If you're in the area, definitely stop by for a bite. I was a little jealous that I didn't get to try the 1/2 chicken, but I didn't have any extra room after sharing the 3 meat combo.
😍
I am a barbecue fan and have been since I was a kid but
I am a barbecue fan and have been since I was a kid but honestly have gotten to the point where I feel like most peoples bbq is decent. A lot of friends rave about brisket and I have tried it at numerous places and was not a huge fan. I saw him on a BBQ Shia on Netflix and decided to stop in while I was visiting Charleston. I almost elected not to go because again I feel like its getting hard to mess up bbq unless you just don't know what you're doing. Anyway, I got the 3 meat special with Brisket, Turkey, and Chicken. Well, Everything was seasoned better than any place I've ever had and am upset that I didn't even get ribs. If everyone's brisket was as tender and flavorful as this, I would eat it weekly. I feel like any other place I try at this point will be a downgrade.
1st ate @Rodney's at the original, much more like a true Q "shack". The Charleston location doesn't have the same ambience and at the same the Q is still great. This Southern boy loves Rodney's Q1 5 ratings all around.
😍
Ordered the half slab of ribs.
These are not baby back ribs, these are full sized. This was enough for two of us, glad we decided to split it.The meat was probably the most flavorful bbq I've ever had, with delicious flavor all the way thru, not just riding on the surface.Choice of sauces are various SC style vinegary options, no sweet sauce if that's what you're used to Definitely the best bbq in Charleston.
😍
The ribs will change your life.
The chicken too. Don't ask any other ridiculous questions. Go. Now. If you go on a Saturday, we got there at 11:30 and the line took us maybe 5-10 minutes to get through. We got the bbq sandwich (with the pork rinds on top), a three meat combo and a side of fries (in addition to the other sides you already get). Quite simply, one of the best bbq places I've ever been to. Although if you sit outside in summer, plan on a ton of flies.
Food was ok, but nothing special. Pretty expensive for the quality. $100 for two combo platters. There are definitely better options in Charleston.
A stop here was planned on our trip from Massachusetts to Florida. We technically drove 200 miles out of the way to get great BBQ but that wasn't really the case. As we walked from the parking lot we passed the part of the building that house to smokers and grills and the promise of great BBQ filled our nostrils. The dining area was crowded with diners and there was a short line to order. We ordered pulled pork sandwiches and a half rack of ribs. We ordered Mac-n-Cheese, Hushpuppies, and Corn Bread for sides. The sides were fantastic. The ribs made the trip to eat here worth it. However, the pulled pork sandwiches were lackluster and had zero flavor. There was no seasoning and the meat was bland. There were sauces on the table but also weren't very flavorful and one was just vinegar according to one of the staff. If Rodney Scott's is to be considered great BBQ it needs some serious attention to how the food is presented. I probably wouldn't recommend that anyone travel a great distance to get mediocre BBQ.
After hearing so much hype about this place, we were really disappointed. The pulled pork was mushy and had no flavor...almost tasted like it was boiled not smoked. None of us were impressed with any of the sauces on the table. They were watery cooking sauces. The side dishes were okay, but nothing spectacular. Mac n cheese was dry, baked beans and collards were good. We won’t be going back to this highly overrated place.
😒
Have to admit, I was disappointed
Rodney Scott's BBQ was one of my must do's when we visited. I have to admit, I was underwhelmed. We did get a 3 meat platter with turkey, pork and brisket along with wings. The wings were the best item. None of the meats were outstanding. The hush puppies were very heavy. We found that you had to use sauce to get any flavor on the meats. The staff was not very attentive, so people were forced to sit at dirty tables. No one was telling people there were menus in a basket on the window so the line to order was very long with people having to use the one copy at the register to order. We did get there right when it opened, and within 30 minutes almost every table was taken. I was very disappointed with the entire experience . There are much better places to try.
There were so many great reviews of this restaurant but it turned out to be a simply OK place to eat. The pulled pork was unremarkable and the hot sauce was very thin and runny. Everything just seemed to miss the mark. We had eaten at other BBQ places in Charleston and found them to offer tastier options.
🙂
Come for the hog stay for the brisket and fries
I know Rodney is known for whole hog but I was blown away by his brisket, some of the best I have ever had and the fries are kind of ridiculous. Always love the corn bread which isn’t always something I find in Charleston.
😍
Simple place with great food, hope to eat here again soon.
Great food, simple setting with indoor and outdoor seating and a drive up window. Had ribs, smoked wings and brisket. To my surprise the smoked wings was my favorite, then the ribs. Brisket was good too. Prices are about what you would expect.
