Underwhelmed
there are a lot of barbecue options in Charleston and I’ve tried a number of them. This place is quite popular so I decided to finally give it a try. It can get Busy so I decided to come for a late lunch around 2:30 PM. There was a short line but it moved fast and once I ordered at the counter and sat down, they brought my food out relatively quick. I decided to try the pulled pork plate, which comes with two sides for $16, which is a pretty good deal for barbecue. For my sides I chose collard greens and hush puppies. had I known that the meal came with a piece of cornbread? I may not have chosen the hush puppies. I also got a fountain drink and a side of banana pudding, which added nine dollars to the order. They have a number of different sauces to try on your table. With any barbecue place I always try the meat first because it if it’s good barbecue most of the time it needs no sauce. I have to be honest the pulled pork was nothing special. It was lacking in flavor for me. I was very happy with all of the sides. If I were to return, I would probably try their brisket as opposed to the pork.

Based on Yelp reviews, the ribs came highly recommended so that's what I decided to order with a side of mac and cheese and greens. Everything was delicious! I ordered the half rack of ribs and everything not including a drink was $25.00+. A bit pricey but I enjoyed it! Would order from Rodney Scott's again!

Good southern, soulful-food, many options to choose from even the sides are delicious. The ambiance is good too. You will never go wrong - visited August 2022
Just got to Charlesston and made a stop for lunch here.
The place was nice. The servicewas quick. I asked for the bbq with brisket combo. The brisket was on point! I got two small pieces but tender and flavorful. The ribs were very dry! The taste was good but dry and chewy. The sides were good had mac and cheese and baked beans. My overall expierence could of been very good but the ribs were too dry.

..and it does indeed live up the hype! Very few BBQs do the "Whole Hog" meat as an option, and Rodney does it perfectly! For $28, I got a the massive 3 meat platter: -Whole Hog...this consists of all sorts of different bits of the pig, all blended together with white meat, dark meat, crispy skin, a perfect amount of fatty bits, seasonings, and it was smoked for hours and hours...I wish I had gotten more of this! -Smoked Spare Ribs...tender, meaty, smokey, and delicious! And there were 5 ribs! That's a lot! Very good! Not quite fall of the bone, but still so tender and meaty that still comes off the bone easily. -Smoked Chicken...smokey, juicy, and tender...delicious! Though I think I should've gotten more Whole Hog or the beef brisket instead. -Hush Puppies...I love these deep fried cornmeal balls! The maple butter paired perfectly -Collard Greens...tasty, and will help with your digestion later. -Corn bread...warm, sweet, and. buttery. For the price and generous portion sizes, this is a great BBQ deal, as well just being an amazing BBQ overall!

5 stars, but this is Yelp. Came here for the first time with my family and so I tried all the things they ordered too. The pulled pork sandwich was great but not fantastic. I've made better pulled pork. The ribs were AMAZING. Just the right amount of juicy, just the right amount of rub. Just perfect. The half chicken was amazing. The beans were fantastic. The potato salad, which is a yellow salad was the best yellow potato salad I've ever had. The cole slaw was just OK. The fries were fantastic, but only if you like spice on the fries. The hush puppies were literally the greatest hush puppies I've ever had. That butter with them just amazing. The best test is would I come back? Hell yes. I would just not order the cole slaw...

Every time I've come to Rodney Scott's in the last couple years I'm always disappointed. The portions are always smaller and the meat is never what you'd expect. During the last visit I ordered a pulled chicken sandwich for takeout and a side of beans. The chicken wasn't "pulled." It was two chunks of dry chicken, and the way it was wrapped left my sandwich smashed up and didn't make it look appetizing at all. The time before my last visit I ordered the brisket and it was tough and dry. I used to order the Mac n cheese but it was too oily for my liking so I get the beans which I've always liked. Their sauces are good! They have a classic, vinegar based and a sweeter sauce.

By far the best BBQ place in Charleston!! This is our second time coming here and every time we visit Charleston we go to Rodney's BBQ. The service is always fantastic and the food is delicious!! There is plenty of seating inside and out and is great for all groups. What I like most about this place is that they don't run out of the meats like Lewis BBQ. They put so much on the plate where we always have leftovers. Outside of the ribs, pork, brisket and chicken being super tasty, the sides are also amazing especially the Mac and cheese and the hush puppies. I loved their banana pudding!! It was delicious and reminds me of how my grandma would make hers. Highly recommend this place! We will definitely be returning!!

I tried ordering three things before I finally asked for something they actually weren't out of on a Friday night during prime dining hours. The brisket was tender and flavorful but I originally had ordered pork shoulder (out), onion rings (out) a baked potato (out).

Stop reading reviews and GO!!! Best Whole hog BBQ I've ever had ... period. Ribs were on point as well! Perfect smoke throughout, seasoned to perfection!!! The sides ... get ALL them!! ... best collards we've ever had (don't tell my mom!) ... and Rodney's sauce is perfect for people like me who grew up on Vinegar sauce. They have other sauces as well... "The Other" sauce is great! If you're still reading this ... seriously ask yourself why ... GO!!!!
Whole Hog Plate is Where It’s At
Quick service for how busy they were around 4:30pm on a Thursday. Whole hog meal is the kind of meat that doesn’t need covered in sauce. The flavor does the talking! Good portion of meat. brisket sandwich was delicious and good options for kids meals (shredded chicken sandwich w/ mac & cheese, and cheeseburger w/ fries). Can’t wait to go back again! That cornbread too… 👍🏼

The BBQ was great. A great selection to choose from, service was good and they are open late at night. The location is easy to find and plenty of parking.

This is one of the best BBQ places I have been. Don't be worried if the line is long, the service was outstanding! We got a mixed plate of ribs, sausage and the sauce was excellent. Next trip, I'm going back.

As a world-class traveler (Morocco, Hawaii, Thailand, Italy, Toronto, etc.), I have visited many restaurants and eaten street foods in low and high ends settings. However, Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BQ(RSWHBQ) restaurant exceeded my expectations. Upon pulling into the driveway of the restaurant I felt a sense of exceptionality. The restaurant is an architectural masterpiece inside and out. The customer care team are highly trained, friendly, and knowledgeable of their products. I was thrilled with the customer service received and the complete layout of ordering and pickup. The pork ribs and smoked chicken are to die for. I continue to being amazed with how tender, juicy, and well-seasoned the meat was. Unlike other BQ restaurants, you do not have to rely on using the BQ sauce for favor. Even though the sauces are superior, the meat can more than stand a long without sauce. Well done RSWHBQ! I am so delighted with the red potato salad, baked beans, honey cornbread, and collards that taste like your mama. Better than expected
I love it when I am highly anticipating a place and it is better than anticipated. Such was the visit to Rodney Scotts in Charleston. I have seen the place on several TV programs where they demonstrated how they use a mop to spread the sauce on the hogs as they cook over an open pit. With that, my wife and I decided to split the whole hog pork plate, she took a side of potato salad, and I had the collards. There was plenty of meat for both of us with a piece of cornbread to accompany the meat. My collards were outstanding. Soft yet firm with bits of pork in them. As good as they were, they were a secondary act compared to the potato salad which was as good as any that either my wife or I have ever had. Unfortunately, we had to return home early from our vacation as we planned on returning to have one more meal here as I saw a plate of ribs which looked like something I need to try. Hopefully, I will get the opportunity to stop by here again some day.
Where have those gloves been?
Food was mediocre- what affected my rating was the individual in the back had on gloves, but with the same gloves he was texting on the cell phone and handling food.

I love this place. I have been to Charleston twice, and both times have come to Rodney Scott's for the best barbecue I've ever had.
Best BBQ!
You must go! Several BBQ restaurants were recommended to us, including this one. I saw Rodney Scott and his restaurant on the Food Network and had to go. I was not disappointed. My order was a half slab of ribs, cornbread, and collard greens. Everything was delicious!!! Shoutout to Sam, the manager, for his hospitality and his tour of the pit. All three of us loved our meals.

Good food but pricey
Had the smoked wings. Wings were large in size and had a decent smoked flavor. If you’re on a budget, I’d advise looking elsewhere but it’s quite pricey.
This place has good food.
They have the smoke house were they smoke the meat and it taste so good. I had the smoke bbq chicken, beans and collard greens. Everything was very tasty. Cornbread was good also.
We were visiting the Charleston area this week.
One of our dinner stops for us was Rodney Scott's. It was a must see and experience. The place was typical of a neighborhood Barbecue place. The staff were polite and kept the dinning room clean and picked up. The food, oh the much anticipated food. It was not good. Certainly not living up to the hype. I ordered the two meat combo - ribs and brisket. The brisket was seriously mushy. I mean no texture what so ever. I've had barbecue across the country, and never had mushy brisket. You could hardly determine where the slices of brisket were. The ribs, dry and almost could not eat. I ate them because I was hungry, anticipating a great feast, but sadly not to be. Collard greens were okay. Baked beans needed seasoning. Grilled cheese was not cooked. Cold. We wanted to like this place. Food quality needs some serious tightening up indeed.
Rodney Scott's BBQ is a good choice for BBQ in Charleston.
I shared one of the platters with a group and tried the collard greens, mac and cheese, cornbread, pulled pork, smoked wings, ribs and brisket. All of the meats were amazing - tender, well seasoned and packed with the flavor. The sides were good but a little saltier than I am used. I also tried the hand pies (apple) and would skip next visit and try the banana pudding. The ambience is low key. Very chill and come as you are. If sitting outside there are a lot of bugs near the shrubbery.
Previously flavorful and tender
The pork has always been flavorful and tender on previous visits. March 13, 2024 for lunch we shared a rack of ribs. Maybe it was dry cold and tough because we arrived at 11:30 AM before the lunch rush.

Absolutely delicious. You get 2 sides with this and I choose the Mac and cheese and the slaw. It also came with cornbread and that was great as well. Placed my order at the counter and I no sooner picked my table and got my drink and they were delivering my food. Could not believe how fast the food came. Parking lot is not very big so you may find yourself parking on the street. Did notice people parking in parking lot across the street.
The Service rocks and the staff works hard.

The turkey was very flavorful and the whole hog was perfectly cooked. The smoked chicken was moist with crispy skin. I was disappointed because they were out of brisket which I was looking forward to trying. The hush puppies and butter were fantastic and by far the best side. The Mac and cheese and baked beans were average. The fries were seasoned well. I didn't love any of the sauces but they do provide a large variety. The prices are fair for the portion size and the staff was quick and friendly. The outdoor seating is cute and great for large groups.

Southern Living Magazine listed Rodney Scotts the 28th Best BBQ joint in the South for 2023. I had to try it when in Charleston. Glad we did -- This is whole hog BBQ at its best. His motto is "Every day is a good day" and any day I can eat at Rodney Scotts is a good day. The pulled pork shoulder is always tender, with a great smoke taste, juicy and simply delicious. Friendly servers who deliver the food to your table. Sides are exceptional, whether the fries, cole slaw, cornbread, collards or beans -- everything was tasty, hot. Large portions--you won't go away hungry here. Freshly brewed ice tea. When the weather is good, they have outdoor tables. This place rocks.
Excellent spare ribs
Pork spare ribs were excellent. The whole hog sandwich was just ok, had some dried out pieces and tasted like it could've been cooked in an over. The sauces were interesting and paired well with the pork. Baked beans were tasty. If you like sweet cornbread, they got it.

The food was excellent! We all sat outside in the picnic table area. The menu was easy to read and the food came fast. Would definitely go back and I highly recommend if you are in the Charleston SC area.

Pretty tasty brisket! A friend told us to go here, and we weren't disappointed. It's a little farther into the city but has easy parking. We got the pick 3 - I wasn't a huge fan of the sausage, but that's just me. The sides were all good, and the line moved quickly. It is small inside, but there is plenty of outdoor seating for warmer weather. I like that all the sauces and plenty of paper towels are on the tables. It's not cheap by any means, but the quality is high, so it's worth it if you like your meats!
Good food and service
First time back since pre-covid nd brought our visiting daughter with us. Still busy Sunday at 2 pm. Chopped brisket sandwiches were good, fresh slaw, mac and cheese on the dry side. Pulled chicken sandwich was dark meat, which my wife found tasty but not a dark meat fan. Prices are good and service very good.
Winter vacation
Food was phenomenal and the service was also great. We shared the 3 meat tray and ordered sausage, turkey and port. We also ordered onion rings, Mac and cheese and hush puppies. Everything was cooked perfectly and served quickly. You order at the counter and they bring you order to the table. The food came out quickly and the person who brought it gave us the suggestion to use the white sauce on the tray on the turkey and she was spot on. We also bought several bottles of sauce before we left.
The Rodney Scott BBQ Experience!
This is definitely a must visit! Grab a menu and decide on your selection while standing in line (someone should grab a table for the group, if one is available, if not, one should be by the time you order). We purchased a bottle of bbq sauce to go, LoL! We also stopped by the original family restaurant on the way back home (another wonderful experience).
Incredible food
Visited based on recommendation. Service was extremely fast. Food was so good I cleaned the plate. Will be going back next time I’m in South Carolina.

I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!

Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!

As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.

Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
