Be the first to ReplyDO NOT GO HERE.
Unfortunately I'm just getting around to this review. My boyfriend and I went on December 1st to celebrate the Christmas Season bc we heard the environment here was cozy and the light display was gorgeous. We waited months for this reservation and it was the worst dining experience I've ever had The service was rude and rushed us. My boyfriend got to our reservation early and I was 5 minutes and they made him wait outside in the rain until I arrived, because they wouldn't seat him until the full party was there. Every meal was $35+ so we asked if we could split an entree and they said no. I would have been fine with that if the food was not the worst food I've had. I've been to Germany and this was no where near comparable. The quality was the same as a microwaveable meal. We both ordered a beer pint and should have been skeptical when there were no prices on the drink menu. Each pint was $30 .... And the restaurant included gratuity on the bill. I believe in tipping well, but I believe it should be earned. Our waiter was rude and rushed us and asked us if we were close to finishing halfway during our meal.

I went to Rolfs recently as I was in the city and it was one of those places i've always been meaning to go to. Needless to say, when you walk in the ambience hits you in the face (in a fun way) I was there early midweek so there was nearly nobody there. I'm a big fan of german food and have had it many times ( including in Austria) This food was dreadfull - I have never had a blander plate of food. Onion soup? tasted like a hint of cheese and wasn't the normal dark brown color you expect in a french onion soup. I LITERALLY thought i'd lost my sense of taste!!!! Schnitzel (the reason I went) was chewy in spots and also bland. I mean, even the sauerkraut was tasteless. Prices are indeed high for what you're getting - and unless you're REALLY into xmas decorations, skip it and go to any other German place in NY! PS - at least the bartender was nice

Like the decor and this is the place if you like German food. Sausages are good. Great German beer too
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed.
Dirty, expensive, rude staff. Revolting looking food. Got told to leave because they needed to "make more room" and proceeded to charge me $20 tip. Sorry excuse for an establishment. They should shut down. Will never ever have anything good to say about this place.
Be the first to ReplyWent in for a drink at the bar to escape from the rain.
The decor caught our eye and we had to stop in! Service was friendly and drinks were consistent We didn't eat there but it was a fun spot to drop by for a drink

Love the atmosphere - how could you not?! The food fell short though. I've had better meals at McDonalds
Be the first to ReplyAmbiance 5+.
Very attentive staff. Good drinks. Awful, overpriced food. Was very disappointed especially after dropping close to $200.
Be the first to ReplyVisited on Christmas Eve.
Super crowded and overpriced but enjoyed the experience. The cocktails were sweet.
Be the first to ReplyAmbiance is pretty and unique.
Go just for drinks (which are high $) the food is even more pricey and was not good. We each got different items and no one liked their meal.

Food was good, service excellent and Holiday decor out of this world!. For holidays must make reservations 3 months in advance. Then upon arrival you wait in line and give your name. They return with a hand written ledger showing if you are getting in or not

Ugh. It's exactly what people say. Cafeteria food served at the most insane prices. But the ambiance is so much fun that the novelty is worth it (if you hang by the bar)
Be the first to ReplyIt's Christmas time year-round at Rolfs.
Very pretty decorations. Food and beer and brandy were all good. But be prepared to pay. Everything is on the expensive side. My head still hurts from the clubbing my credit card took.

We were attracted to the decorations and generally enjoy German food. unfortunately, other than the very cool decorations, we were super disappointed with the food. In fact we left before even ordering a main course. The bread was good but served with oil not butter- not a typical German experience, we understood why about 2 hours after we left ( gas- from the cheap oil) We both had soup- French Onion was flavorless and watery. The butternut squash was flavorless (no spices), pasty and watery. After the potatoe pancakes arrived- flavorless (tasted like whipped egg whites) and they were served with canned watery applesauce, we decided to go somewhere else. Two soups and potato pancakes and a coke was $86.00.
Be the first to ReplyThis is an odd place.
Decorated like it's Christmas. You get a sense of claustrophobia because they're all over! A little expensive. Service was fine.

I've seen this place on Instagram for quite a few years, and when I went to NYC this past November, I made sure to stop by and see what all the hype was about. I went with my girlfriend, and when we walked in we were blown away by the dรฉcor. There are ornaments everywhere and it literally feels like Christmas threw up all over the place. We loved it so much. So many picture opportunities in the place. While the dรฉcor was great, the service was far from it. We came in and got seated at a booth (we only wanted drinks by the way), but the server told us we each had to get something to eat. There was no signage indicating that and no one said that to us before we got seated. So we ordered our drinks and then moved to the bar. After sitting at the bar for a little bit we moved to the other side of the bar, because the bar had like 7-8 workers just standing around and they were talking loudly and you couldn't take any pictures because they were standing in the way. This is supposed to be a fun and vibey place, but the workers were NOT matching that at all. The drinks weren't even that good either, they were also extremely expensive too. They add gratuity to the bill too, so for the two drinks we got, the total was like $60-$70, absolutely ridiculous. Also, the place is extremely small, luckily we went on a weekday around 5pm, when it wasn't so busy, but I can imagine it getting very over-crowded on the weekend in the evening. It got busier as we were there too. Overall, this place is only really worth visiting for a few pictures and that it's it. Honestly you should just go inside, take some pictures, and leave. Don't even bother staying to order a drink or wasting your money on anything else.
Be the first to ReplyWe visited the first weekend of December.
We didn't have reservations and the place was packed. We waited in line outside for about 30 mins. Once allowed in to the bar area, it was overly crowded. The energy was fun and obviously festive. The drinks were okay. We tried something on their menu for a holiday drink. I should've just stuck with my normal. Overpriced and overcrowded but was a cool little experience. I won't do it again but it was neat during the holiday season. We didn't stay very long as it was pretty much standing room only. I'm not even sure if the bar had barstools.
Be the first to ReplyIf I could give zero stars I would.
The cocktails are ASS and so expensive. The service is non existent. All five bartenders went on a lunch break at the same time?? The decorations were cute but not worth the TRASH that this place is. BTW: the drinks are $22 without tax or tip!! Listing your prices would be nice
Be the first to ReplyYou can't presume to serve ANYTHING that is "authenticity"
You can't presume to serve ANYTHING that is "authenticity" German if you're actively pushing customers out of the door. Giving guests (who are probably paying $100-$200 on average) a time within which they are "allowed" to be at a table is 100% an American/capitalistic/greed-based perspective that is INSANELY/UNFORTUNATELY/UNFAIRLY placed upon the servers. Jesus F*CK owners. Remember that you're representing a country that traditionally has evening meals that last longer than 2-3 hours. And please quit putting your staff in the position that they have to be the "enforcers" of your bs business plan.
Be the first to ReplyIf you love Christmas decorations, this is a great spot.
The decor here is so over the top but really beautiful to look at. They have some random creepy dolls placed throughout the bar. I've been here twice and only ordered drinks at the bar. The mulled wine is $22, so it seems very overpriced. It would be nice if they printed the prices of the drinks, but I believe they omit them on purpose since it's way overpriced. I would recommend if you want to take cool pictures and enjoy the Christmas lights but be aware that you will overpay.
Be the first to ReplyI feel like Rolf's gets a ton of hype around the holiday
I feel like Rolf's gets a ton of hype around the holiday for its decoration but gets neglected for the rest of the year. It so tough to get seated around the holidays for this reason. The decorations are pretty and it feels very festive, but the food is mediocre and the drinks are fine.
Be the first to ReplyGot seated almost immediately.
Staff was very friendly, and food was delicious! It was my first time trying German food and I enjoyed everything! Only downside is the place is VERY small. Depending on where you're sitting it can get overly crowded. Many people are taking pictures in the isles where customers are eating.
Be the first to ReplyOf course, we went to Rolfs during the Christmas season.
We went on a weekday afternoon. My girlfriends and I waited about 15 minutes online outside just for the bar section. We got in and boy the amazing decorations smacked us in the face. After a ton of pictures, I had the mulled wine cocktail. The people at the bar were packed in like sardines, but they were all so nice. We got drinks right away but wow they were overpriced!!! Definitely go for the vibe, the decor is out of this world but dont go for anything more then 1 drink.

I'm a huge sucker for Christmas decorations so I had a great time here.. but it's way overpriced, $15 for a lager. Come for the vibes but maybe not the food. The decorations are truly spectacular and they're up until March apparently!!
