I was originally going to book at the SF location but palo alto was closer for us and less traffic so we decided to try Rooh in Palo Alto. I was skeptical at first because of the many reviews about their service.., but overall, i didn't have a bad experience! The waiters were nice and attentive to us and our food came out quick! The food was pretty good. The garlic naan was ok. Our favorites of what we tried were the tandoori chicken and the butter chicken! Soo good! I liked the Ratnagiri cocktail a lot, it tasted like a mango mousse!! The ambiance was pretty as well! Very modern and upscale inside.

We came here for our valentine's dinner on the day before Valentine's day. Definitely need to reserve before going. Ambience is great as always. Service could be better, there were no pleasantries, was hard to catch hold of a waiter and the dishes took forever to come. This time we tried the tandoori chicken bomba, paneer pinwheel with some naans. The Bomba was interesting and the paneer pinwheel was amazing. You can definitely come here for a special occasion as it is on the pricier side.

Ambiance inside is very nice. It's dimly lit and perfect for date tonight. Servers were very attentive and fast with bringing the food. For drinks we order a Ayurvedic cocktail called Ratnagiri Sour and a mocktail called Pink Guava. Both drinks were good. I couldn't taste the alcohol on be Ratnagiri Sour so I didn't get a second one because I wasn't sure if it's one of those drinks that creeps up on you later. For starters we ordered the Chicken Tikka Kulcha which was piping hot with some nice butter and Indian pickle on top. It was pretty solid. We also ordered Dahi puri. The whipped yogurt was interesting and different but we liked this dish as well. For the mains we ordered the paneer pinwheel and butter chicken along with garlic naan and avocado raita. The butter chicken was delicious and the chicken melted in your mouth. The paneer pinwheel was also very delicious. Naan was good but didn't come with many pieces. The avocado raita was nothing special. The avocado slices were just sliced on top. For dessert we got the saffron and pistachio kulfi which was not good at all! The kulfi had like a pistachio coating and wasn't tasty. It was also hard to share because it came on a popsicle stick. Next time we will definitely skip the dessert. We ended up getting Somi Somi after the disappointment. Overall this is a good restaurant with a nice ambiance especially for date night, but it's a bit pricey for the quantity of food and I would definitely skip their dessert.

Rooh is a high end modern Indian food restaurant in a prime location. The food itself was amazing, very well composed, unique (try the Potato Tikki Chaat), and delicious. This includes traditional dishes, like the Butter Chicken. The service, timing, and follow through was disappointing, especially when the restaurant was 3/4 empty. Maybe it would be fuller if this was better organized? Forgetting ordered dishes twice is inexcusable. What was more disappointing was the bill. I know what it takes to make Butter Chicken, and the dish was grossly overpriced. Again, the restaurant might be more attractive if there was higher value for the great, yet made with inexpensive ingredients, food.

Good: - Dessert - Mango Tres Leches - Chili Garlic Prawn - Lamb chops Disappointing: - Butter chicken - Brie pakora (a full block of brie just deep fried) - Naan (how do you mess that up?) - Non-alcholic drinks (really just bottled OJ for 12$) Service was fine. For the price, it was really disappointing.

Had a reservation for Valentine's dinner at 5:15, and was seated inside promptly. Great decor, great aesthetic, atmosphere, dim lights, very romantic. Waiters were dressed and very polite, had a candlelight and roses on our table. We ordered from the special Valentines menu which was $95 per person. For small plates and apps, we had a small kulcha with daal in the mini cups (daal was a bit too salty), and mini bread bites with seasoned butter. So good. Onto small plates we chose shrimp and the chicken Ghee roast. Very flavorful and spicy, highly recommend! For big plates we ordered the paneer pinwheel and the fish. Had garlic and plain naan. Alongside we had the guava mocktail. Overall great experience, great food, definitely recommend to come!

Went on valentines. Terrible service and sneaks on 20% mandatory charge. Entire focus is on turning around tables fast and making money.
Be the first to ReplyI have been here many times.
Food used to be really good for a fine dining fair until last year. We tried it on Valentine's Day this year. Experience We made our reservation and when we entered we were told we made an outdoor seating reservation that was never mentioned on their reservation system. Despite telling that we had a kid and a newborn, they didn't agree to provide indoor seating despite many tables being empty. We agreed to sit outside and we got bad seating with us and our food got wet due to rain. Upon request they changed us to another outdoor seating despite so many of the same indoor tables being empty which I personally checked after a while which they denied again when asked for. All in all a very bad experience for a rip off fixed menu bill. What this fine dining place needs to understand is people go for experience and not just food on a special occasion. Food Wide food options for fixed menu selection. Appetizers were very salty and lacked flavor (edamame bhel). Paneer based appetizer was good but too much salt again Main dishes were hit or a miss. One was too sweet (kofta curry). Desserts were really good which was the only best part of our meal. Call ahead of time to confirm indoor seating if you are particular about it. I wouldn't go back ever again to Rooh.

TLDR : Amazing food, lovely ambiance (squeezed seating), quick service We visited Rooh for my wife's birthday and we will definitely be going back. Food was so good! The butter chicken and panner appetizers were the best of the dishes we tried. The lamb shank biryani presented so beautifully with the lamb easily falling off the bone made for a great meal! The spicy chutney is really spicy! Drinks were nice- the old fashioned and pink guava were our picks Service - We asked for recommendations and we did follow them and loved it. Ambiance - The ambiance was darker than other restaurants but that made for a more intimate setting. The tables however were really close to each other and every time someone was getting up or sitting down it couldn't be done without bothering the tables around. Only reason for not the 5star review this would've otherwise been.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was good, lots of unique twists to Indian dishes.
I really like the ambiance at this place and it was made even better by our server, Arsh!

Vegetarian-focused reviewThis restaurant is consistently vegetarian-friendly! The food was creative, with delicious twists on common dishes. We were such huge fans of the dahi chaat that we ended up ordering an additional plate. Other favorites include the paneer pinwheel and their mango sorbet (with a little kick of spice).I was also impressed by their attention to any allergies or restrictions, with full understanding of every ingredient on the menu.Highly recommend eating outdoors, a very cute and warm area!
Be the first to ReplyAlmost a month ago, we had lunch at Rooh in Palo Alto.
We had read great reviews online and some people in our network. We went with big expectations, the ambience was good. But that was about it. The water glasses, smelled of food, not sure if they were washed with soap before previous usage. The Goa cooler was not prepared like the pictures on Yelp review. The Aloo tikki looked like it was just thawed minutes before serving us. But the biggest turn off or joke was the Kulfi with Rabdi. The kulfi was just served without any Rabdi, I told the waiter about it, he called the chef. The chef said there is Radbi in the desert, I asked him to show it to me on the plate, and he just pointed to the 4 decoration dots on the plate. The decoration dots were sour. Rabdi is NEVER sour. Clearly the chef had no idea what he was cooking foregt knowing anything about Rabdi. A minute later, another waiter just sneaked in some Rabdi in a separate small cup at our table and ran away before we could ask any questions. We were disappointed and left after paying the full amount. Finally at the exit the manager magically appeared from somewhere. He talked to us while we were exiting and said that the head chef had taken off for the day. I understand that this maybe just one off instance, but the person responsible for Chef duties should have been informed well about the dishes. If not please remove the item from the menu. The manager also said that next time he will treat us better, but I am sorry i don't think i will return to this place next time. Advice to the management - please remove dishes from the menu, if they are not served in the way described on the menu.Note to the owner- Before reviewing on Yelp, I gave you a chance by sending my review on your website, but no one from your team responded in this one month time. Hence I have to now post this publicly herw.

Manager refused to seat our party of 4 people- Manager and hostesses were rude and unprofessional. Food and service are infinitely better at Ettan. Suggest going anywhere else in Palo Alto.

My friend and I stumbled upon this place looking for something to eat and thought the ambiance looked terrific and absolutely enjoyed our time. We sat at the bar and were immediately greeted by Izler. He shared some of his favorite recommendations on what to eat, and he was absolutely correct. Sitting at the bar was such a great experience as we watched the bartenders make these magical cocktails; they drew us in with every drink. They answered my plethora of questions about the drinks they were making for other customers with such excitement. I will definitely be coming back again!

Scam!! Overpriced food, disappointing menu, and below average taste! Make sure to check your checks/ bill that they bring you at the end. They sneakingly add items to your bill that you having event ordered and if didn't crosscheck it, you may end up paying it who knows what!! They added 5 extra drinks to our order and we caught it. They didn't even apologise but what we found later in our credit card statement is it that our card was overcharged. We also read similar reviews. Looks like it's their practice to steal money!!
Be the first to ReplyNice ambiance, professional service, top notch food.
Pricey dishes. Menu is quite unique, so it was hard to understand the food items, could be better either by displaying an image or dish explanation.

I am absolutely obsessed with Rooh Palo Alto! Service and food are both 10/10. Every dish was impressive but my top three are: Assorted Papad, Potato Tikki Chaat, and Chicken Malai Tikka. The space is well thought out, and suitable for casual, work, and celebrations. You won't know what "progressive Indian" means until you try it. Classic, with just the right touch of tasty unique without confusing your tastebuds. Also, I am not a big drinker, and am selective when I do; at Rooh, I can always count on Izler for wowing with his "surprise me" drinks. Lastly, don't even get me started on the desserts - I love both the Coconut Leche and the Espresso Coffee Cake. Just get both. Highly recommend across the board.
Be the first to ReplyWe recently celebrated a friends birthday here.
Their service is mediocre, and so is the food. Location is great and ambience was good too. Portion sizes are small, our drinks felt like they were poured out of ready made juice boxes, and their paneer pinwheel appetizer is recycled into an entree dish as well! Not something you would expect out of a fine dining experience - overall experience was decent but felt over priced for the quality and service.
Be the first to ReplyWe love that restaurant.
The food is delicious and the waitress Maria M was super thoughtful and caring . We will come back soon
Be the first to ReplyToo expensive and little portions.
But it's a nice place, and the service was 4*. The highlight of our dinner was the papadoms and chutney!

Our table for six on a Monday evening was in an isolated area in the back of the restaurant between a couple of collapsing doors. The arrangement made a poor ambiance for our celebratory occasion.Coming to the food, we tried quiet a few things on the menu and here are my ratings based on taste and preparation.5/5 - Dahi Puri - the yogurt mousse is made to perfection providing a rich taste and consistent crunch. Coincidentally our favorite in the SF restaurant.3/5 - Prawn Ghee Roast - didn't look appealing and fell short on the spice expectations.5/5 - Masala Jackfruit Cutlet - a masterful creation by the chef that I highly recommend. Perfectly minced and flavorful in the inside and fried to perfection.3/5 - Chicken Malai Tikka - cooked to perfection, a good one for kids as it's not spicy.3/5 - Tandoori Chicken Bomba - wasn't very consistent and disintegrated easily. Some of them were over fried in our order.5/5 - Lamb Keema Hyperabadi - another must try dish amongst the appetizers. Perfectly balanced spices that give a mouth melting taste. Superb!!5/5 - Chicken Nargisi Kofta - a wonderful fusion similar to the famous Bengali dish - "deem er devil". Our favorite in the large plates.3/5 - Stuffed Eggplant - didn't meet our expectations, we preferred others in the menu over this.4/5 - Butter Chicken - a typical preparation, flavorful and tasty.Overall we really enjoyed the food, few dishes didn't meet our expectations but will come back for those that did. Hope the seating can be better next time.
