ROOH SF San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year
We enjoyed our evening here tonight.
They have special tables for those who don't have reservations. That being said.... Our server was very friendly and cordial. The food was worth the money spent. Everything was delicious and served stylishly. It was an awesome experience. I will go again with my kids. I will also go again with friends. I think our server made the experience very positive because he took the time to describe every dish and answered all the questions patiently.
Elevated Indian cuisine in SOMA great for large parties.
There is the option to order a la carte or select from one of three set menus (ranging $90-$130/person). We had a party of six that night and opted for the "Epicure Set Menu". It was very much worth $105 per person, as the dishes were portioned according to the size of the party (plates were doubled for us at no extra cost). The assorted papads, crisps, dals, rice, and naan were unlimited. All in all, it was an overwhelming amount of food (in the best way possible). I've included photos of all the items from the set menu below. Standout dishes for me were the masala jackfruit tacos, hemp seed roast cornish hen, dahi puri, traditional butter chicken, and cashew praline cake. These items may be available on their regular menu as well. Overall a solid first dining experience at ROOH, I would come back again!
4/10 - interesting concept but disappointing execution.
I'm a vegetarian, and while there is a relatively decent selection, there is a poor selection for those with nut allergies. My party ordered the chili cheese kulcha and the corn appetizer -- the kulcha was soft and flavorful, but the corn was disappointingly one-note and soft (despite supposedly being deep-fried), with only a ketchup/mustard taste prevailing. For the main course, we ordered the artichoke dish, the Patra dish, and the soy kheema. The artichoke kofta was an interesting idea, but yet again, the only flavor to come out is sour. Nothing else. Ditto with the patra dish. While the artichoke kofta was an innovative idea, simply adding patra, a Gujarati dish of fried and rolled colocassia leaves, to a gravy of kadhi, a Marathi gravy dish, does NOT rise to the innovative standard one would expect from the price tag. The soy kheema was fine, but like all meat substitutes is an acquired taste. Ambiance and service are excellent, the waitstaff are friendly and attentive (but need to put cutlery on paper towels, not directly on the table). TL;DR: portion sizes are too small and menu too poorly executed to justify the high price. Save your money and go to Ettan/Copra.

The dishes we had were pretty good! Great service and atmosphere, had a little trouble finding vegan options though.
Upscale Indian restaurant with flavorful Indian food.
The cocktails are very interesting, love all their cocktails I have tried so far! Beautiful interiors, a place where you can go to for special occasions and still get great Indian food :) Loved their quail entree I tried a few years ago, the meat was perfectly cooked and moist with flavors on point! Jackfruit tacos were amazing!! Even the dal makhani we had here was delicious, nothing fancy they stuck to authentic Punjabi style cooking. The thing I liked was it didn't feel like they were trying to tone it down for the food to taste mild, it had the perfect balance spice in everything I tried! Service was good too, no complaints. Definitely worth trying this place if you are looking for upscale Indian restaurants that serves fancy fusion Indian dishes while still tasting authentic.
From the pictures the servings appeared sparse.
However once their a serving is plenty for one person. Could even share with another person if sampling multiple items. Butter chicken, rice and garlic naan a staple item here. Went with a large group we ordered pretty much everything. However, consensus was the butter chicken was a favorite for all. Of you have a large group they have several different tasting menus available. Service was attentive, timely and on point.
Ambience: decent, dark, moody.
The restaurant is elongated, and because it's in SF , a bit tight. Could've been better. 3/5 Food: Good. Papad tray was nice, they used Deep Khakhra (lol) as one of the papads, but the dips were tasty. Puff pastries were good and Jackfruit tacos were very good. Pondicherry Fizz cocktail was good. 3.5/5 Service: excellent- our server, front desk, everyone attentive, good in giving suggestions. 5/5
The dessert was the best part.
The rest of the meal was alright. Slightly disappointed as I'd had a better experience before.

Amazing indian food! Can't wait to go again and have the oysters! Drinks are unique and delicious
Came here for a work dinner and really blew my mind.
I loved the creativity of the food as well as the flavor. Service was great, informative and attentive for us. Definitely will be back- cute date night but also works for team dinners as well! I forgot which set dinner we did but I definitely loved the cocktails and the jackfruit tacos. I've never had jackfruit taste so good like this before! I also appreciated the portion size of the dessert after all the dishes.
Get the Lamb Shank Nihari
Everything we ate was just sublime. The tandoori octopus was perfectly cooed and came with a coconut sauce. I ordered the Lamb Shank for my main, if I wasn’t so aware of being in an upscale restaurant I’d be sucking the bone marrow too. The table next to ours ordered a Kulcha to start with, not sure what kind, but it looked delicious. Our server Ashutosh was attentive and friendly. He made our evening special and is an asset to the restaurant. I would highly recommend dining here for a special occasion or just visiting San Francisco, one of the best restaurants the city has to offer.

Best Indian food ever tasted. Great vibe, exquisite cuisine, wonderful service. Our server Pooja did a great job of picking and suggesting the dishes for us to try. She was awesome overall. It was my husbands birthday and she did a nice job of making it special for us. Perfect date night
Pretentious & Overpriced
We came here based on TA reviews but we will say they were not supported by our experience. Our table wobbled like crazy and then we got moved and that was ok. Yet the server admitted they knew the problem already existed….so why seat anyone there? The host was unwelcoming and very distracted. The first appetizer - baked puff pastry with cheese - was nice. But $20 for essentially two empanadas? Por favor…. The second appetizer - the shrimp - came out very overcooked. We sent that back, second time was better. Yet $20 for 4 shrimp? Feels very over-priced only because the food was mediocre. Main course - butter chicken - which is $30 and does not include rice or naan….very bland and uninspired. Candidly this tasted like tomato soup with chicken. And cilantro on top?? Had to force this down as we were so hungry. Cocktails were nice but we have experienced much better for far less $$, so again, meh. We left paying $150 including tip and honestly are contemplating Shake Shack. Beautiful interior space, just not a great kitchen. Service was ok but again when you are charging prices like Rooh, it should be top notch. That it was not. Not one time did anyone really check in with us on our experience. Even when we left, the host decided to ear his dinner at the bar. Just not ok on so many levels. I predict this place goes bust anytime soon. You can’t survive on unassuming visitors from out of town forever….

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
