😒 3/5 - To my (admittedly inexperienced) palette, Rose's Luxury

To my (admittedly inexperienced) palette, Rose's Luxury tasted like a Bib Gourmand restaurant at Michelin Star prices. And if you include the price of the reservations (which cost more than the meal), this place is priced like it has 2 stars. The signature Pork and Lychee Salad was a knockout, and absolutely Michelin Star worthy. The focaccia and the coconut sorbet with caviar were delicious. The rest of the dishes, however, were simply lacking any kind of "wow" factor. The grilled cabbage was fairly inventive in terms of technique, but in terms of flavor it was nothing new. Plus ours was astonishingly salty. Dishes like the Cacio e Pepe Souflee and the Laquered Chicken were certainly well executed and tastey, but nothing to write home about. For dessert, we had the Beignets & Bananas Foster which frankly left a lot to be desired. The ice cream was run-of-the-mill, and the beignets themselves were arguably worse than what you would find at a county fair. If this place were half the price, I would recommend it without hesitation. The food was great, the service was great, etc. In fact they gave us a free round of champagne because it took them 5 minutes to seat us. But I struggle to see how the meal I had justifies over $200 per person without drinks, or the rare distinction of a Michelin Star. When it comes to my rating, those things matter, especially price. This was the best meal I've ever been unable to recommend. At this price point, it's not too hard to find better in D.C.
