Wonderful Parisian bistro with fantastic food
This place is a GEM. Everyone’s food was fantastic (we shared a lot), the wine was uniformly wonderful and fairly priced, excellent service, and thankfully quiet enough (no annoying music) to be able to carry on a conversation. Perfect for a fantastic dinner, felt like we were back in Paris. Go. You’ll be glad you did.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible experience at Routier
Will not recommend Routier. We dined there tonight. In our party was a restauranteur with decades of experience in the food business. She was served scallops that had an ammonia smell to them. Everyone at the table agreed about the ammonia smell. When she told the waitperson she could not eat the scallops the waitperson argued back denying there was a problem. The chef was consulted and he argued back saying the seafood was fresh. The manager treated us the same way over some bad scallops. They refused to acknowledge that it was even possible for there to be a bad piece of seafood. They charged us for the dish even though not a single bite was taken. There was no apology. I’ve never in my life had such a troubling interaction at a restaurant. We deserved far better treatment. And btw the FDA says the following about seafood that smells like ammonia: “Uncooked spoiled seafood can have … ammonia odors. These odors become stronger after cooking. … If you smell either a fleeting or persistent ammonia odor in cooked seafood, do not eat it.” Shame on you Routier.

We went for a birthday celebration. The atmosphere reminded me of a Parisian Bistro. The food was innovative and delicious. The service was great. It was a great experience!
Be the first to ReplyWasn’t expecting strawberries on confit
Atmosphere is nice but food disappointed. Ordered duck confit, expecting a classic, instead got an unexpected update (served with braised strawberries). I support creativity in the kitchen but also informed consent. It wasn’t spelled out on the menu. I’m just not a fan of fruit and meat dishes.
Be the first to ReplyIncredibly average French bistro.
There is a lot of hoopla about this place but basically it was just an average restaurant. They don’t even respect the customers enough to have a phone number but you can pay $10 per reservation on Tock which is refunded when you go to the restaurant. The food here is fine although quite uneven from dish to dish. In many ways it’s typical of the San Francisco restaurants now where they feel they’re doing you a favor to serve dinner. Good service. Very high wine prices. They don’t even care enough to serve bottled beer instead it is seven dollars for a can.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible neighborhood restaurant
We had one of our best restaurant experiences in years here.
We arrived a bit early and enjoyed a glass of wine at the bar while watching the friendly bartender mixing drinks.
There wasn’t a thing on the menu we wouldn’t have ordered.
We started with the Dungeness crab pavé with spiced mayonnaise and the green cauliflower “Grenobloise,” baguette crisps. Both were terrific.
For entrees we had the halibut with buttered corn and summer beans with chili oil and dill and the sweet corn risotto with chanterelles with maple butter, white pepper and sheep’s milk cheese. Two more winners.
Roasted plums, berries and mascarpone with caramelized baton au beurre and almond financiers for dessert + a great glass of port rounded out the evening.
Perfect service from a friendly staff throughout.
Put this one on your list if you’re in the city.
Excellent food
We were here for dinner, and waited for the other two at the bar. Bartender was great and drinks were really great. Food was excellent, well-prepared and beautifully presented. Service was great, very helpful with the menu and attentive. Dining room is spacious, but we were at the one and only table directly in line with the front door. Unfortunately, they have a policy of leaving the door open until the last reservation has arrived, so I froze for the first hour of our being there. A bit of a warning to wear winter coat, hat, and gloves would have been helpful beforehand, but freezing your customers doesn't make much sense to me for a place that was otherwise very nice. Absurd policy IMHO. Reservations are tight here, and apparently they charge for cancellations, so be advised to ask exactly where the table is located relative to their open-door policy.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Food; Outrageous Corkage Charge
This is a sister restaurant to B Patisserie and a welcome addition to the area. We went there as couples and were required to show proof of vaccinations. The Monterey squid and beets with citrus and celery yogurt appetizers were excellent. Two of us ordered the lamb shoulder and two ordered the halibut, both of which were superb.
The only complaint was corkage of $45, which is the highest we have experienced in San Francisco by at least $10. In addition, we were not told the corkage charge upon arrival, and opened a 2nd bottle we had brought, of which we consumed about 1/4, yet were charged full corkage on that one as well, marring an otherwise great experience. When questioned, the sommelier said such a charge was normal for a restaurant of is level, which we disputed, not that he changed anything on our bill.
We likely will be back, but won’t bring a bottle next time.
