Expensive noisy evening
This was so disappointing as we love Ottolenghi's recipes but felt ripped off by the prices charged and it in no felt special. The room is like a canteen, big and incredibly noisy , so there's no way you can have a conversation, only shout at each other. The dishes are tasty but hugely overpriced given the ingredients and we were rushed through, with everything arriving at once and no chance to savour. The staff were willing but harassed and our 3 course meal lasted only around an hour. It all felt like conveyer-belt dining and was definitely not value for money. What a shame.
Be the first to ReplyChic environment and a memorable culinary experience.
We shared a disparate selection of small plates: vegetables, fish and meats. All were fresh, delicious, and attractively presented. Service is impeccable . . . welcoming, responsive, unobtrusive.

What a lovely evening delicious fabulous food but so enhanced by our extraordinary waitress Kate who was totally wonderful ! Enthusiastic informative and attentive . Honourable mention for Hugh shaking cocktails at the bar !
Be the first to ReplyRovi Rocks!
Incredibly delicious menu. Hugh, at the bar, and the bar Manager provided outstanding service, and recommendations. The Polenta Crumbled Mushrooms, Celeriac Shawarma, and Grilled Mackerel were superb. I didnโt have room for more or I would have loved to try other culinary delights. I will be back. BTW, the Signature Martiniโs (all three), and the Georgetown Old Fashions are amazing.

FABULOUS, After reading previous reviews we went with trepidation but our whole experience was excellent from professional treatment from staff to the delicious food, my only regret is at on-line booking one can send a photo & a reason for the visit ( birthday, anniversary etc) so on arrival one felt hyped for a special welcome that didnโt occur, it would be so much better that this wasnโt an option so no disappointment, just a minor niggle but still a niggle. But apart from that definitely 5 stars โญ๏ธ

Was with my daughter to have late dinner. The restaurant was busy but even so with a very nice service. We both had some veg dishes and it was most delicious! I'll never forget the cofeebaked beetroots!
Be the first to ReplyA pretty disappointing experience
Iโm quite sad to be writing this review because I had such an incredible experience the first time I came to rovi, but this evening just wasnโt worth what we paid. We had all veggie based dishes and overall, the menu was pretty underwhelming. The dishes weren't bad and nor did they lack flavour, but they were all quite acidic and the choice of vegetables for each separate dish didn't work that well. It felt like a pretty unbalanced menu. We hoped the desserts would make up for it but even they were quite strange and just didn't please us as we had hoped. The service upon arriving was friendly and the lady who greeted us made us feel really welcome. However, as the evening came to a close the service started getting progressively worse. We were told that the kitchen had already closed and this was at about 9:45pm, so we didn't really have a choice at that point. The meal was for my daughter's birthday, and i kindly mentioned this in the additional requests but nothing came of it. i only highlight this part because we saw another table receive birthday recognitionโฆ a little awkward. By the end of the night we'd been served by about 5 different staff members, and we just felt a little bit forgotten and left which wasn't nice. It took about 15 minutes for someone to bring the card machine over (after needing to be prompted to pay I must add). all in all, just a pretty disappointing and lack lustre evening which was really sad considering the first time i came here it was one of the best dining experiences we'd ever had. Not sure if I'll be returning for a while.
Be the first to ReplySuperb food...service poor
A few of my friends highly recommended visiting Rovi as the food was supposed to be superb so my husband and I decided to visit one Saturday late afternoon for a casual dinner. I would like to strongly state that the food was superb. Beautiful flavours, really fresh produce and beautifully presented. However, we ordered quite a large amount of food; 1 nibble, 2/3 sides, 2/3 small plates and a large plate each. We were served a side right at the beginning which we had ordered to go with one of the large plates. The nibble arrived and then it was over 30 minutes before a small plate then arrived. The wait between the first few plates was pretty significant and then all the remaining food turned up at once. I might also add, this wasnt at peak time, the restaurant was mostly empty when we had arrived and filled up once we left. I will also note that we ended up without a small plate as it hadn't been ordered properly. The service again not ideal. It was a touch faulty towers. The barman was clearly bemused at the fact neither of us were drinking, 'is that it' on asking for a sparkling water, lol. And I don't think one member of staff cracked a smile, it was just rather hostile. At the very end of the meal we asked to pay the bill. And instead of showing us the bill, we were expected to give our card over and pay which I think is more likely lack of training than trying to be rude. I asked to see the bill first to which it was produced as I wanted to check that the item that hadn't arrived wasn't on there. So in conclusion...the food is superb, the service staff could do with some more training.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible food, but unwelcoming staff on arrival....
The food is exquisite, so many wonderful textures and flavours - it's just delicious! The waiting staff were all very nice and friendly and explained each dish, but weren't over the top. The wine was also delicious, but a tad on the expensive side. The downside for us was the very frosty, un welcome welcome when we arrived - by not 1, not 2 but 3 members of staff. No smiles, no warmth - we felt like an inconvenience - completely at odds with the waiting staff, who were great. It's such a shame to be greeted in this way, when I mentioned it to the waiter he wasn't surprised - he said it had been raised before....
Be the first to ReplyImaginative food butโฆ.
We dined at Rovi last week and having eaten at other Ottolenghi restaurants I was excited to take my husband for his first visit. While the food was excellent, our server was oddly hostile, never once smiling at us or offering recommendations. Clearly some diners had exceeded the time limit for tables and it was clear that the front of house was struggling with people waiting. We had arrived on time but waited for our table as well and from our serverโs treatment, we felt like she wanted us to eat and then leave asap. Not the experience I expected.

From start to finish, enjoyed the evening! Food was delicious, very versatile, great range of vegetarian options and the staff was on point (not quite sure what her name was, but a lovely young lady assisted us through the night perfectly!) They are an example for how itโs done. Will be back for sure :)
Be the first to ReplyLife saving
We were having a disaster having booked an unsuitable lunch in Covent Garden. Wandered up to our favourite Rovi and the lovely staff saved the day. A seat at the bar counter. Perfect drinks to relax us. Wonderful food. Who knew carrots could taste so good. Our weekend was saved.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding
Book a table and prepare your taste buds for a real treat. The "nibbles" were divine, the starter of octopus and the main course of halibut were perfectly cooked and melted in the mouth. The service was friendly and totally efficient. Ambience was great with a busy buzz about the place without being loud despite what looked to be a full restaurant. (Not surprising).
Be the first to ReplyDon't go if you're not upper white middle class
Though food was good,a senior staff member serving
us was extremely rude and abrupt to two members of our party yet perfectly friendly and charming with the people on the table next to us who were of European origin. I was made to feel like I should not be there because of the colour of my skin, I felt so on edge the entire time I was in the restaurant and honestly could not wait to leave. Never will I ever step foot in any of the Ottolenghi restaurants again. Awful experience.
Delicious but rushed
Really delicious food. Inventive combinations. Great experience. Service very attentive.
Only complaints:
Our food came out very quickly and wine was topped up far too often - felt like they were rushing to get us out to the point where we had to ask for them to slow down (we were still well within our 2h slot).
And the tables are pretty squashed together which means it feels cramped and more like a cafe than Nopi, even though the food is higher standard.
Fabulous Lunch & Service
Absolutely fantastic lunch enjoyed on Monday 28th Feb. The service was brilliant from the gent on the bar who gave us his time and experience to our fab waiter, who was fantastic. Thank you so much, weโll be back xx
Be the first to ReplyOttolenghi Delight
If you're a fan of the brilliant cookbooks of Ottolenghi, this is one of his several restaurants in London. Everything we ate was a revelation of tastes and textures. It was a birthday brunch and they were kind enough to commemorate the day with special caramels. Book in advance as it was filled up on a Sunday.
Be the first to ReplyVery good, but pretty manic dining
First experience at one of these restaurants. On entry it seemed like they were on top gear, wanting to get you seated and ordered and serviced in quick succession.
Food selection was fine, I dont mind the bring it out when its ready fashion but it just leads to being a bit disjointed. The expensive wine put us off so stuck to more reasonable beers. Our food was good,.
Everything around us just felt like as soon as they had rushed someone out it was next in and not the most relaxing of experiences.
Delicious food, friendly staff and great atmosphere
My husband is a big fan of ottolenghi and this visit was a birthday treat. We chose 5 of the small plates and the fir potatoes between us and one dessert to share. This was plenty for us. All were delicious, the celeriac dish particularly. Canโt wait to go back.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food- worth a visit!
Had been wanting to visit for ages and am glad I did- the food was amazing! It was definitely filling- there were two of us and would definitely echo previous commenters that we opted for the smallest number of plates the waitress recommended. Yes it is quite expensive but great plant based range and amazing food.
The reason I give it four stars not five is the service could have been better- we needed a bit more time to order food but got a nibble to start, and then it was a bit of a struggle to get service to order the rest of our food. Similarly, it took a while to get the bill. The waiters were polite though
Taste explosion!
What an incredible evening at Rovi. We went for a late birthday meal and were seated near to the kitchen. This felt very exciting and interesting to see all of the ingredients and enjoy the flavours.
Food highlights.... Everything! But some favourites, celeriac schwarma, pink fir potatoes, the pork chop and miso fudge.
We ordered 2 small plates, 2 mains and 2 sides, then shared a desert and digestive. We were really full and satisfied. Incredibly tasty, inventive and well put together dishes.
Our booking was for 21:30 and would recommend that time as the restaurant was really bustling on arrival but then slowly calmed down and we really enjoyed that. I've seen complaints of feeling rushed with food, quite the opposite for us. The staff were a perfect combination of attentive, efficient and approachable. They worked very hard to make the experience unique for customers and the kitchen staff were amazing to watch.
The atmosphere is sophisticated, relaxed and exciting, all at once. We would highly recommend for a memorable meal and great opportunity to try this style of cooking. Will be back and I now feel excited to cook more of his dishes from home!
Big on flavours!
A big Ottolenghi fan, it was a toss up between trying out Rovi or Nopi, 2 of Yotemโs restaurants in central London.
Opted for Rovi, just off Oxford Street not for any other reason except weโd already been to several restaurants near Piccadilly Circus and didnโt want to go to another (Nopi is near there).
Ordered a fair number of sharing plates between the 2 of us, but everything was very tasty and varied. Mostly plant-based, so a vegetarian can have a very satisfying meal here.
Stand outs were the simplest dishes - pink fir potatoes and a charred red cabbage with pickled grapes. Would love a return or a trip to Nopi just as a comparison.
Fantastic, worth every penny.
This was our second visit to Rovi and we were scared that it wouldn't live up to our expectations as the first time was excellent. However, we were not let down, the food is divine. We tried lots of small plates and a few mains and every one of them was amazing! It is so refreshing to taste new dishes and to be surprised, we would really struggle to replicate these at home, if only it were that easy but then that's what we rely on the experts for! Worth every penny, have paid similar prices at other restaurants but not had the same experience. We always remember the dishes at Rovi whereas we easily forget meals at other restaurants. Also enjoyed the ambience and the service was superb. We stuck to house white wine and it was enjoyable. We will be coming back.
Be the first to ReplyMiso Fudge for the Soul
Came here for a birthday celebration for two, content with the possibility of being sat at the bar despite the reservation. Huzza, we got a table! Fabulous stuff. Plenty of wine choices by glass and bottle alike- the fact they have quality skin contact wine says it all. And indeed, quality it (the Oranz) was.
Knew from the moment we first encountered Ottolenghiโs seemingly scrumptious recipes that anything with veggies would be magic. If you come to this establishment and donโt order the glazed carrot kumquat main with ridiculously tasty spicylicious lentils, you are missing out. Get the octopus for the sake of the creamy moreish butter beans. Donโt leave the sides aside, because the fir crispy potatoes are a star of the show. Ottolenghi- we beg you to make this into a main please and put more of the crispy little red bits on top.
Shawarma was alright.
Now, allโs well that ends well.
We leave the best for last.
The star of the show was the complimentary birthday miso fudge. The coconuty fruit fritter dessert with crunchy seedy granola was very yummy, but was slightly overshadowed by these little small chewy caramel gifts from the gods. Who wouldโve thought miso would work in sweets? Soybeans and dessert? Are you wizards?
We got two more portions for the road.
All in all, great experience. Would recommend.
Special mention to Alison who shared our spiritual experience with the miso fudge and who was super helpful, a dietary requirement-adapting-encyclopaedia and just generally lovely company. Thanks for great service.
Fabulous flavours, comfortable setting, attentive staff.....perfect!
Beetroot in coffee, Pork chop and Pear&pumpkin fritters...... all fabulous in terms of presentation, flavours, sauces & dressings.... As a solo diner, I was offered a lovely table setting, though I might have expected otherwise...... but the whole dining experience was relaxed and a real delight. Staff even took the time to advise about transport issues on a strike day... Costly perhaps but i can't wait to return!
