The table-side carbonara was fantastic! I ended a conference and needed some time to decompress and always find the best way to do that is with pasta-- will go back!!
Be the first to ReplyOverall, I think this place was okay! Ambience and service
Overall, I think this place was okay! Ambience and service were amazing but the food lacked a lot of flavor for me. I came in for a work trip so we had a private back room where they brought out family style plates and our own wine/ cocktails, which was a really cool experience! The service was amazing and they were beyond attentive, I may give them another try when I'm back in there area and able to try individual portion sized dishes to compare.
Be the first to ReplyBusy and hip vibe to dine in.
Service was great as well as the dishes. The only let down is when the check came and the restaurant tag on a 3% restaurant charge just because. Insult to injury I asked the server to remove the small charge since it's optional and they return the bill as is. Why would a nice beautiful restaurant tag on a random bottom line driven 3% charge.

Chicago has so many great Italian restaurants I never really considered RPM Italian and an option. Well, that was a mistake. Today was my first visit and it will definitely not be my last. I ordered the pasta carbonara. It was not only the best carbonara I have ever eaten it may have been the best pasta dish I have ever consumed.

Loved the truffled garlic bread paired with prime beef meatballs for app. Spicy king crab pasta is my favorite item on this menu. Also had charred pepperoni pizzette which is fine but nothing bc spectacular. Will likely find a different item for the table next time around.

We came there on Tuesday night and got the table immediately. I ordered scallops, those where ok, but I felt some Sean's there. Also it is noisy, so not great for conversation.
Be the first to ReplyFood was very good.
Service was very bad. We had reservations and got to the restaurant earlier in the evening. They sat us at a tiny high table right in the way of traffic in the bar. My uncle was constantly hit, shoved, leaned on, interrupted, and bumped by every drunk conversationalist and rude passerby with a backpack. It got to a point two drunk men came so far into our personal space they started leaning on our table. No one on staff said a word even when we mentioned the constant annoyance. Regardless, we spent a good amount of money ordering 2 entrees, 4 sides, 3 desserts, and mixed drinks. Once our dessert came out, while we were obviously eating and ordering more drinks, the manager came to visit us and ask us, "First of all, how did you enjoy your meals?" We responded, "The meals have been very good. We're still enjoying them." He responded, "Great! Well, we have a large party coming in and they are waiting on your table. Would you mind moving somewhere over there and we can help you transfer your food to one of those tables?" My uncle and I were surprised by this. We reluctantly agreed, under duress, and then he walked away. We both felt a little raw about it and asked someone to ask him to come back. Another manager came back informing us he was too busy. We didn't want to cause a scene but she insisted she could help. We explained that we didn't feel good about the conversation and how our dining experience wasn't nearly as important as anyone else's and how, at the very least, the manager could have made a gesture to at least act like he valued us a little. She offered to have us moved and then asked us if we would like drinks on her. At that point, I didn't even want my leftovers. Having not seen my uncle in years, we decided we weren't ready to end the night and decided to have another shot on her, but the whole scenario that got us there was just tacky. Very disappointing.

went for restaurant week - appetizers and dessert were phenomenal. entrees fell pretty flat but still enjoyable. service and ambiance were 10/10.

Great experience. Tonight was a sad failure. Long wait for our reservation. When my meal (just a simple Tuscan Chopped Salad) arrived it was missing basic ingredients. Getting our server's attention wasn't easy. I finally gave up and went home to eat part of a leftover cold sandwich. So disappointing for a "premiere Chicago restaurant ". Never again.

We had awesome service, our waiter was Javier who was really attentive. I was a former waiter so I really appreciate great service.

I went to RPM for a celebration with 12 people and all I can say is WOW- RPM exceeded all expectations! The food was phenomenal, specifically the meatball appetizers and the cacio e pepe. The spritz were incredible and came in fun glasses. The restaurant was packed and there were people waiting (thankfully we had reservations well in advance) but the entire staff was moving and working together to provide a great experience. It was great to see the managers pitching in and hustling to support their staff as well. We were seated at the high top tables in the bar area which was a perfect environment for our group and Javier, our server, was nothing short but AWESOME!! He was so attentive and made sure everyone was well taken care of at all times. Only complaint is that we were so full. HUGE thank you to the RPM team for making us feel like real VIPs!!

Had a delightful happy hour experience there! We reserved a table ahead of time in the bar- I believe that's where the HH deals are exclusively. It was a weekday and very busy. While the service staff is dressed formally, the guests dress code doesn't seem to matter- some folks were extremely casual, which surprised me a bit. We had a super attentive and professional server who never left me panicked that I wouldn't be able to get my second drink order in before the end of HH- Always an added bonus for that peace of mind! I had the Chianti and old fashioned and both were great. My wife got the seasonal spritz which she liked, but to me tasted like raspberry lemonade and was not my favorite. We ordered the fried mozzarella which was good, but the biggest of the mozzarella balls was still cold inside- not enough time in the fryer. The sauce was excellent though. I'll definitely come back because the mushroom arancini is calling my name!
Be the first to ReplyOverall not my favorite by any means.
Everything was very average and unimpressive.Restaurant overall looks nice but if you are unlucky enough to be seated by the restrooms, you'll be snaking and weaving past many many tables to get there. No sign for the place when you are outside the door which was wierd. The paloma was delicious, but man it'll cost you. Wine list is great and limoncello pour was generous. While the cocktail list was 4 drinks long, I'm sure their bartenders can whip up a good cocktail off menu if asked. The server was nice but did not know details of the food and when we needed a check, he disappeared. The parpadelle was small and all sun dried tomato and no short rib. Inflation really that bad huh...left hungry.
Be the first to ReplyThis was the most disappointing restaurant of my Chicago
This was the most disappointing restaurant of my Chicago trip, not because of the food, but because of the staff, especially the host. We had a reservation for RMP Italian at 7:30 PM with the VP of our company. Needless to say, it was an important reservation. We get to the place a bit before 7:30 and checked in. The host tells us that our table is almost ready and the people before us have their check. However, in my head, I am thinking there is no way that the party will leave soon since people like to chit chat and sit around after the check. Half an hour later, we ask the host again, and she keeps telling us, WITH A SIDE EYE AND ATTITUDE, that the table will be ready soon. I do not mind waiting but the fact that she gave us attitude especially when we were very nice in asking, that did not sit well with me. An HOUR later, we asked again, and the people were still at our table. At this point, we were pretty annoyed. There were no accommodations but plenty of sass from the host. We decide to go to the bar and grab drinks as we wait. An hour and 40 mins later, we finally got to our table. I am not going to review on the food because I cannot believe a fancy chain like RPM could be so unprofessional. I understand that it is no one's fault when there is a bottleneck but being able to deal with it in a reasonable and kind way is expected. Giving an attitude is not it.
Be the first to ReplyHad my first experience at RPM Italian while I was in
Had my first experience at RPM Italian while I was in Chicago for work and it did not disappoint. I met a friend for dinner and we shared several dishes. Our server Quinn was fabulous and made sure the kitchen was aware of my tomato allergy. They were able to modify the Spicy King Crab dish so there was no tomato. I believe that required them to slightly change the sauce but I found it to still be delicious. We also ordered the Truffled Garlic Bread and Truffle Risotto special. I don't think I've eaten so much garlic bread in one sitting but the Truffled Garlic Bread was AMAZING and so hard to not to eat it all. When they brought the risotto to the table, they shaved fresh truffles on top of it, table side. I'm a sucker for anything truffle. The service, food and drinks were great. We shared two bottles of a non oak Chardonnay that was fantastic. I can honestly say I don't think I've ever classified another Chardonnay as fantastic. I typically hate Chardonnay but this one was very much Sauvignon Blanc like. I think we were there for 5 hrs and didn't feel rushed nor were we asked to leave. We did sit at a high top in the bar area. I'd say it was a great night.
Be the first to ReplyFood was way too salty.
If I didn't spend so much, I wouldn't be as bothered. Couldn't even it all.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was very good and the bartender gave amazing
The food was very good and the bartender gave amazing service. What I thought was odd was when we asked if there was availability, the hostess was pretty dismissive but said we could sit at the bar. We sat for over 2 hours, had the rib eye, which was cooked nicely, and the truffle risotto, which was very good (nothing to write home about). What was frustrating was that there were several tables that sat empty for the 2 plus hours we were there. I cancelled reservations at another steakhouse for the convenience of walking to RPM from our hotel. While the food was decent, I think the host stand needs some training (unless that's how they are trained, in which case I'd be even less inclined to return).
Be the first to ReplyFood quality and taste have gone way down.
Sad when restaurants grow their quality diminishes.

I wanted to try this place out cause it came highly recommended by a friend. We walked in there round 5:30pm on a Saturday and got a table for two without waiting. We ordered the octopus appetizer which pretty good. We'll seasoned, great texture - not rubbery - perfectly cooked. We got two pasta entrées - the butternut squash agnolotti and the carbonara. The agnolotti was delicious and melted in your mouth. The carbonara was good although nothing special. The service aligned with other RPM restaurants and was top notch. However I'm only giving three stars because after two drinks, an appetizer and two entrées for the both of us, we left unsatisfied. Maybe it's expected to order multiple apps and entrées per person but we were already at $50 per person without tip and didn't want to spend anymore. It was seriously tempting to walk over to the McDonald's afterwards.

I have been here many times and have never been disappointed. Great food and wine selection. Portion sizes are fair for price and are in line with portion sizes in Italy. Love the atmosphere and design. Staff is always great as well!

Service was awesome and attentive. RPM definitely is a must try!
Be the first to ReplyWhat on earth happened? This has been our FAVORITE place in
What on earth happened? This has been our FAVORITE place in the city for 8 plus years...basically since RPM Italian opened in 2012. We have been a few times during COVID and even when they first opened back up for outside dining during COVID and it was great. The last two times we have gone, with one being last night, it is horrible! We decided to go back last night to have our faves in the bar area and to give it another try, since we get things are different. Well, it was still not that great and even worse than our last visit. Did you all lose your chef? We have always loved the grilled octopus dish to the point of possible plate licking (lol) and a second order being placed. Not anymore since the new prep aka one long piece and not cut up. It was tasteless and no good texture...just not good at all. This needs to be chopped up and prepared how it used to be. We also get the tuna bruschetta and my husband couldn't even finish it. This is a man that is not picky at all. We also miss the basic, yet flavorful kale salad. Why is that gone? We hadn't had the homemade ricotta in a while and decided to try the "newer" version with the honey and how nauseating. The bread was butter saturated and soggy and in 12-14 inch strips. We ended up leaving and barely eating any of it, this is how disappointing it was...we didn't even finish our drinks. Everything seems VERY novice and not like the RPM we have known and LOVED for many years. Let's also keep in mind that this was $100 plus tip. We always get the branzino and sides when we get a full meal and they cut the size of that way back during COVID and we understand these things and were fine, but when the food prep/tastes changes so much, not good. I hope they get their act together soon and go back to how it was, which was always consistent on food and service, sadly that is gone and we are as well until things improve drastically. You could ask anyone who knows me what my most favorite restaurant in Chicago is and they would say RPM Italian, no question...not anymore. I HATE writing a bad review, but I would love to see it be as good as it WAS. This was our "spot"
Be the first to ReplyFor those that may have visited another RPM restaurant
For those that may have visited another RPM restaurant before, you know just what you're getting yourself into - and it never disappoints! From the moment my friends and I walked in, the ambiance was fantastic (and busy, given we stopped in during Chicago Restaurant Week), the servers were very knowledgeable about the menu, and the food/cocktails were fantastic. I loved everything we tried, and can't wait to go back!we tried the below:~ R Spritz: Cocchi Rosa, Cherry Blossom, Lemon, Franciacorta Rosè (huge fan of this drink)~ Imported Burrata~ Prime Beef Meatballs~ Whipped Ricotta & Honey~ Black Truffle Agnolotti~ Bombolini (a must order - some of the best/softest donuts)

Dining is is great, but my To Go orders have consistently been short (meaning meat dishes with very little meat in them). Tonight is my LAST time ordering delivery from them. Food taste great but delivery portions are always lacking!
