Holy. Smokes. First of all- LUNCH SPECIALS. My god this may have been the best meal I've had in Turin after a month and it was only like 20 bucks??? Because it's a lunch special??? And that's a beautiful thing??? I found scannabue after perusing the Michelin website of restaurants in Turin wondering what sort of meal I could treat myself and my partner to as my trip was coming to a close. As weird as it might be I was drawn to the pigeon. I've never seen pigeon offered on a menu in the US and figured it was my chance to try it while I could. Then I saw the lunch specials and was sold. Just to start- we ordered waaay too much food and somehow it remained delicious through the entire experience. The foie gras portion was enormous and served over a cured meat that somehow complemented the richness of it. We ordered the braised beef cheek and pasta with a sausage and cheese for our lunch special. The beef cheek was delicious but if I could find out what they did to that pasta I would likely attempt to eat it every day until I died. It was such a well rounded flavor but light and rich all at the same time? It was incredibly confusing and enticing. Then the pigeon. I don't know what I was expecting but they made me feel like I don't know the first thing about having a culinary imagination as they knocked my socks off. A medium rare chunk of meat, paired with a deep fried lollipop style part of the bird, a sweet small wing all served over caramelized peppers drizzled in a sweet luscious sauce next to an onion cooked in a way that made my heart skip a beat. I'm the type of lady that will try to add garlic and onion to just about any meal...always. It was cooked inside the skins to the point that the inside of the onion because a creamy emulsified onion held inside of the charred skins of the onion itself. The type of simple yet beautiful presentation that could make you weep (if you love onions as much as me). We finished with the cannoli and the dessert three ways. I don't even know how we made room for dessert but even after all that it remained amazing. The lunch specials make this place so affordable that anyone can try this place out and I can't recommend enough that you do. You deserve it.

One of the more popular restaurants in Turin and definitely requires a reservation. It seemed that if you didn't have one you were turned away. So make sure to email ahead of time!We were seated outdoors in the heated enclosed tent. Since it was white truffle season, they had add on for white truffles and porchini mushrooms to some dishes. It was an extra 3.4 euros per gram for the white truffles. We shared the steak tartare with white truffles, the agnolotti, and duck. The waiter brought out a scale to weigh the white truffle and continued shredding until we told him to stop. The scent of the white truffle was amazing but the flavor was much lighter than the black truffle. Maybe it's my preference but the white truffles are much more expensive too. I was expecting the sauce of the agnolotti to have more butter flavor but it seemed a little bland. The filling of the rabbit, veal and pork was quite flavorful though. The highlight of the meal was the duck as it was cooked perfectly and the skin was so crispy. Cover charge included the water, bread, and olive oil

Sometimes the best restaurants aren't always in the best locations. This was the case for Scannabue. My wife and I was excited to try this place because it received pretty good reviews. When drove to the area to look for parking, we realized we weren't in the best of neighborhoods. There were people standing on street corners and the streets were dark. When we finally got to the restaurant, the atmosphere was completely different. Everyone was laughing, eating, having a good time. Like most Italian restaurants, there was an outside seating area as well as inside. The outside was heated with lamps so even on a cool day you can stay warm. The hostess was friendly and greeted us. We were actually seated within 5 minutes of getting there. As for the meal, we thought everything was delicious. I ordered the porcini mushrooms with tagliatelle and my wife ordered the meat ravioli in butter sauce. We both shared a beef tartar with white truffles. I am going to be very honest and say that I am not a huge fan of the white truffle. The smell is amazing but the taste doesn't really add too much more flavor to the dish. I am not sure if that's all white truffles or just that particular one. I am glad we got to experience this restaurant. The food was great and it was good to eat amongst the locals. If you are to come here, just be careful since the area is not the best.

Best thing I can recommend is the agnolotti pasta. These are tiny ravioli stuffed with meat and served with a delicious sauce as well as fresh ground parmigiano. You won't be disappointed. There is also a fine wine list and an English speaking hostess.

I'm going to give this restaurant a 5 even though our server was a complete asshole! Maybe being a foreigner I was missing something, but it took the server 45 minutes to return with the bill and got upset when I asked if there was a problem. The bearded fellow wasn't very accommodating unlike his counterparts. At any rate the food was the best I've had in all of Europe. Everything was a culinary masterpiece. The Agnolotti was particularly exceptional, and the Octopus was perfectly tender yet crispy. Don't trust the times on yelp as we tried to go back for lunch and they weren't open. Make a reservation before going or you will not be treated right.
