Without overstating things I can tell you that Semolina's spicy vodka sauce makes me want to leave my wife and move to Italy in search of true love.

We have eaten here a bunch of times and previously I would have said this place is a solid 4-4.5 stars but something was different on our last visit. We had one of the regular servers who is usually really good but they continuously made "jokes" that were condescending and off putting to the women at our table. Feeling so rushed to order, we even got a "60-second shot clock." The restaurant now almost forces you to finish in 90-minutes NO MATTER WHAT! Entrees were served before we finished our appetizers and they walked by trying to clear the table 3 times when we were still picking and chatting amongst ourselves. It just really kills the experience, and when we left there were 2 people waiting... it's not like we were taking up someone's table. I felt like I broke the law staying for 1hr 45 minutes vs the 90 minute mandate. Guys, we left that behind with Covid, years ago, or at least EVERY other restaurant did, just not here. We ordered the burrata, the ruvolo, scallops, pork chop, tagliatelle and short rib. The pork chop is always good, no complaints. My wife enjoyed the tagliatelle as well. But everything else was average in our opinion. The burrata just didn't work, none of the 4 of us cared for it and it's cheese, hard to mess up. The scallops definitely needed to be seared more, the $45 short rib is a piece of pot roast... and the ruvolo pasta was not great although a neat concept. $278 for 4 people no alcohol, it needs to be better at that price point. Not sure what has changed but we won't be rushing back any time soon, which honestly is a bit disappointing because we have always spoken highly of this place, but can't anymore. And check the recent reviews on google, many, many people saying the same things... you'd think they would listen to their customers at some point. What worked before won't always work moving forward...

Semolina has always provided delicious food and efficient service. Pasta dishes are fantastic and creative.
Be the first to ReplyI heard absolutely wonderful things about Semolina.
..so I went with my husband. It was OK. I'm Italian and I love Italian food, I just didn't think it was worth all the hype; it was good, just not worthy of what I had heard about it. And where I don't understand their "absolute" policy of not seating people until the whole party arrives, it's their policy, so if you don't like it, don't go.
Be the first to ReplyWe were very excited to eat here.
However we were disappointed with the food, service and management. The pasta was under cooked, dry and hard. Waitress asked how the food was, told her the pasta was under cook. She got offended and wouldn't come back to our table. We asked for the food to be wrapped up (figuring I could cook it more myself) and they threw it out because "we didn't like it". Manager came to our table and told us our server was having a hard time and was upset, really didn't understand that. We were very nice about the food and didn't let it ruin our night. Manger finally took the pasta off the bill however, it was too late to make the experience better. Looking for fresh pasta this NOT the place to go!

Be the first to ReplyThis place is an absolute shame.
My family and I once loved to support this local business up until this holiday season, we will NEVER EVER EVER be returning. My boyfriend and I purchased his parents a gift card for Christmas on December 21st. On his step mother's BIRTHDAY, today, January 3rd, they went to redeem this gift card after a beautiful birthday dinner. We got a call that the gift card was "redeemed right away" and had "zero dollars on it." CLEARLY one of the hostesses messed up the gift card exchange and handed us an empty gift card. We spent $150 and have proof on our credit statement. The owner is arrogant, rude and handled the situation POORLY as well as his "manager." Both of our families owned restaurants and we FULLY are aware of what occurred here and that this was a complete mistake on the restaurants behalf. THERE IS NO WAY WE REDEEMED A GIFT CARD THAT WAS A CHRISTMAS PRESENT. They had ZERO proof, he said it was "redeemed the day after christmas" which was complete BS. Impossible. They not only ruined a birthday dinner but scammed us out of $150. If he had ANY care or consideration for his customers he would have corrected this issue and seen his 16 year old hostess made and error. Absolutely despicable. Not to mention, we got a report back that the dinner was "sub par." Got disrespected by the owner, a birthday dinner RUINED and $150 taken from us. DO NOT DINE HERE and DEFINITELY do not purchase a gift card for your loved one here.

WARNING: if you want to be treated poorly by the owner and scammed out of $150 this is the place to be. My daughter and her boyfriend purchased a gift card as a Xmas Gift for his parents. They went and dined there on 1/3 to celebrate his mom's bday only to be told the card had been previously redeemed the day after Xmas. Impossible. It was the first time they'd ever been there and they had the card in there possession the entire time. So who redeemed it? Clearly an error on the restaurant's side and when it was brought to the owners attention before he hung up on my daughter who called to try to resolve the problem he was rude and nasty. Really? $150? I owned a restaurant in Red Bank previously and would never treat a customer this way. Shame on them. Hope they enjoy the publicity and the light that shines on who they really are.

I dont understand why, someone would give this Gem of a restaurant a bad review. From the time we walk in we are greeted with smiles, the manager Paul comes over to seat us and say hi. The staff are so friendly. The food is so amazing, it is truly fresh pasta at it's finest. The chef and his staff are so on point starting from the apps to the dinner. Our experience was a fantastic one and this will be our go to place. kudos to all who make the place fabulous.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service, clean.
Good but not special for the price. Low on value. To be honest I can't see myself going back.

Went there to approach them about a business opportunity to grow revenue for the restaurant. Spoke to head chef, who must've been no more than 5 feet one and he was so rude to me. I asked him one simple question and he took my business card and said no, and threw it in the garbage. Will never return do not recommend food is only average at best. The little man who cooks there or whatever he does should be fired. Nobody's that good, at least at this joint.

arrived a little early and were graciously welcomed and seated. byob was a treat! we enjoyed a few apps followed by an amazing kale caesar salad. dinners were ricotta beet pasta, fresh cod filet and osso bucco. all were prepared beautifully. so fresh and delicious!
Be the first to ReplyFinally got to try Semolina, and it was great.
Small space, but comfortable. Service was excellent from the moment we walked through the door. The menu was limited but couldn't decide since everything there was what I wanted. The food we ordered had included the carbonara, pork chops, scallops and osso buco. All of these dishes were excellent, as were the apps and desserts.New favorite place in Red Bank. Just go.
Be the first to ReplyDear readers,I had a terrible experience at Semolina
Dear readers,I had a terrible experience at Semolina restaurant in Red Bank, NJ, and I feel compelled to share my thoughts. This restaurant had one of the rudest and least professional greetings I've ever experienced. When my wife and I arrived (on time) for our party of four reservation, the other couple was struggling to find parking. Not wanting to delay the party, the husband dropped off his wife at the restaurant while he went on to find parking. We asked to be seated while we waited for the last party. We explained to the hostess what was going on, but instead of being sympathetic and understanding, she was rude and unhelpful. We explained the situation to the hostess again and asked to be seated while we waited for our party to find parking...(not an easy feat in Red Bank on a rainy Saturday night), but instead of showing empathy and understanding, she decided to be unhelpful and dismissive. She told us that we could not be seated until our whole party was present was rude and impatient in her communication, which made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. To make matters worse, the restaurant owner then intervened and behaved in an even more hostile and belligerent manner. He abruptly said he would not seat us because the 15 minute "window" had expired and demanded that we leave the premises. We tried to reason with him that if he sat us we could order for the missing party and still make the 8pm table turn deadline we had. When we started protesting about his decision, he became even more aggressive and confrontational. It was an incredibly unpleasant experience that left us feeling disrespected and disappointed. In my many years of dining out, I have never encountered such a complete lack of hospitality and customer service. The behavior of the receptionist and owner at Semolina was completely unacceptable and unprofessional. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone, and I hope that others will take heed of this warning before deciding to dine there.Sincerely,A Disappointed Customer
Be the first to ReplyThis was very underwhelming.
The appetizer was good but it was very small. The salads were tasty. The burrata was absolutely outstanding, very fresh. However, the entrees were terrible. The bolognese was small with little to no meat. The fish was undercooked with pink meat. We mentioned this to the waitress and she pushed back saying it was supposed to be that way. I grew up at the shore and knew this wasn't the case so they brought it back and brought out little tiny pieces of the fish now burnt and expected me to eat it. I will not go back.

We absolutely love this place! The menu is on the smaller side, but everything is extremely fresh. Service is always good and BYOB is just a bonus. The pastas in particular deliver, and even though I'm not a dessert person I have enjoyed several. Definitely make a reservation, the dining room isn't that large, and bring a good bottle of wine.

I don't appreciate having to wait for the entire party to arrive when it's cold out and hard to find parking in red bank - not a great way to run a business

Be the first to ReplyReally good food and service.
The pork chop is a must try. The ambiance is terrible. It's crowded and feels like your in a strip mall pop up.
