Shu Restaurant Belfast Reviews from The Last Year
A friendly welcome
Our first visit based on a recommendation and certainly wouldn't be our last whenever we're in Belfast again. A warm and friendly welcome with a team that are engaging and attentive throughout. Really nice presented plates of food with top quality ingredients on every dish with taste to match. Highly recommended, and thanks to all the team!
Excellent food, great service, decent price
We came here for Sunday lunch after a christening on the Malone Road, the whole experience was fantastic. We had nine adults, two kids and one very small child. Restaurant was immaculate, food was outstanding, everyone really enjoyed it. Service was great! We'd a lovely afternoon - thank you Shu!
Need to up their game!
Dinner was okay. I hadn't been to SHU for quite some time and had remembered it as better. My crispy artichoke was a bit soggy and lukewarm while my husband's wild garlic soup was bland, The fish, trout and monkfish, were better but the potato accompaniment was a micro portion. I thought they'd forgotten to add mine to the dish! A broccoli side was nicely cooked. The bill was just over £100 so fairly expensive, I don't feel enthusiastic about a return visit very soon.
A great restaurant with mouthwatering food.
It was my second visit to this amazing restaurant and I have to say that the food was really tasty and the presentation was excellent The staff were very friendly and helpful and looked after us really well. Im really looking forward to my next visit to Belfast and having another fabulous meal in that great restaurant. I highly recommend it .
Worth a visit
Tasty and good service. A bit of a distance from the city centre unless you take public transport but overall we enjoyed the experience.
60th Celebration
Fantastic night at Shu celebrating life and 60 years with friends and family..We were in the Board Room upstairs and I could not think of a better venue. The menu was perfect and the food was wonderful.Polite, unobtrusive efficient staff.Would highly recommend.
Sunday lunch
Fabulous food , great atmosphere and service Our waiter was Padraig he was professional very informative regarding food and drink and very friendly I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this restaurant and will most definitely be back
Fabulous Sunday Afternoon in Jules.
Excellent from start to finish....service, food, music, atmosphere all amazing! Staff all lovely - special shout out to Adam, Eva and Jasmine for looking after us so well.
Excellent
Outstanding. Friendly and quick service. Food was amazing. Tuna Tartare and Roast Duck were standout dishes. As it was New Years Eve it was on the pricey side of value for money. Would definitely recommend.
Horrible service and rude waiter
Extremely disappointing. Myself and family have dined at Shu a number of times over the years. The main reason we kept coming back was because of the location and the fact that they do have a standard menu in place during early afternoons. My recent experience was infuriating as the service was shambolic. After finishing the main course, the staff just ignored us. We had finished our cocktails and were just sat there waving our hands in the air trying to find out what was happening. Nothing for at least 30 minutes. When we finally got the aloof waiters attention, he was completely indifferent to the fact that we had not received our dessert. He could see our empty plates and glasses. No food or drink on the table. Service was so bad it felt deliberate. After I told the manager she offered to refund two cocktails - notably this was only offered after we complained to her, this was not offered while we were at our table complaining to the aloof waiter. Too little too late so I declined this pathetic offer. Turned our day out into a very unpleasant one. Will not return and nor will my family.
Terrible experience
9 of us arrived for a family meal with guests having just arrived from England. Had been telephoned twice regarding the booking / firstly to take £180 deposit & secondly to make sure we were aware we only had 2 hours at the table. Arrived to a set menu on each plate - no option for a la carte. No price on the menu - when we asked were told it was £50 per head!! We were shocked as at no point were we informed of this or we would never had made the booking - it’s not on the website & we really didn’t want 3 courses but were told it was only choice. Very understaffed, staff forgot to bring items requested and the food came out so fast we barely had time to digest each course. Quality & quantity of food not nearly what it was or should be. Felt so rushed & it was such an unenjoyable experience we cancelled a future booking.
Great food, bad service / such a shame.
Lovely food and great service to start, but unfortunately went down hill from that point - service became almost non-existent and started to almost feel deliberate but suspect it was due to pressures elsewhere. Such a shame and Shu need to focus on basic customer service. Still a good restaurant but no longer great.
They have to give the stars to someone
This was my first visit to Belfast. What a wonderful city with so much story to tell. It has so much to give. What it seems not to have to give is fine dining. Maybe that's because eating out and tourism is part of a relatively recent history for this city. If you are coming to Shu and from outside of Northern Ireland then manage your expectations. This is not a fine dining or Michelin experience. I have never felt so rushed, ever, in any other restaurant. I am not exaggerating when I say that the starter arrived within 2 minutes of food being ordered. The wine had not even been poured. Following starters my partner got up to use the bathroom as the plates were cleared, I picked up my phone and noticed some activity at our table. Our main was being delivered. Maybe one minute after finishing our starter! Service was friendly, plates were hot, food was ok. Nothing more, nothing less. Maybe that's just the food scene here in NI. Certainly lots of room for improvement

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
