Shukette New York Reviews from The Last Year
Absolutely wonderful
Wow - everything about this restaurant is worth the hype. Staff was super friendly from the moment we walked in, allowing us to order drinks while waiting for the table which they then brought over. Ambiance is very fun inside - just the right level of noise. Food was all absolutely delicious with wonderful flavor. Drinks were good too. Reasonably priced for sharing plates (except the chicken which was overpriced).

Now this is a quality restaurant! I came here with my cousin and I was really impressed by the service here. Immediately upon arriving, the hostess was very kind and welcoming. I got a reservation for 4pm on a Sunday for outside. It happened to be a bit hot out and the table we were going to be seated at was in direct sunlight so we opted to sit inside. Luckily there was enough room inside to it was no issue! Our waitress got right down to business and told us that the frena was a non-negotiable so we tried it and loved it. You gotta get it with a dip though as it comes by itself. The only reason this place didn't get 5 stars was because the lamb chops took about 30 min to come out and my cousin was done with dish by the time my food arrived. Other than the food taking a bit longer than I had hoped, everything was excellent. Once I did get the lamb chops they were incredible. Looking forward to coming back sometime soon!
While food was flavorful, dining experience was not ideal.
Please note that this restaurant is family share style so they will bring out all the food in the order in which it is made (not a good place to go if people want their own entrées). The chicken wasn't served until an hour and a half after we were seated at the table so they ended up compensating us for this. With that said, the weight staff is very nice and the Frenna bread in particular is exceptional.

When you try to order dips and breads and the waiter tells you one (not two) breads is enough, believe the waiter. My friend and I ordered two dips (the hummus and the spicy whipped feta) and two breads (frena and pita) and we couldn't even order anything else. Which was so tragic because we really wanted the lamb skewer, shish kebab, and crispy squash blossoms. We also got the hot sauce which wasn't spicy at all in our opinion but still tasty. This place felt like a trendy club on the inside! Except it was dinner at 5pm on a Friday. The music was great. Loved the decor. Can't wait to come back and order less but more
Vibrant flavors surprised me.
The server answered my curious questions as I tried to verbalize my "wow" experience. Grateful for the reservations that my daughter scored for us!

I've passed by Shukette before and it looked like a neighborhood favorite, so I decided to give it a go. I really enjoyed the bold punchiness and the bright magentas and yellows of the Shukette pickles appetizer. Staff seemed constantly on the go. The frena is a must-get. The lamb skewer was fine. The twist soft serve (berry sorbet and tahini) was refreshing though I wish the halva floss was on that one too. The back of the restaurant was also way more hot than the seating towards the front.

Excellent food (4/5 overall with a few truly standout dishes), but the ambiance/restaurant service really brought down my experience here. I made a reservation for 1 at the counter a few days before my birthday trip to New York. I love eating small plates style and the bartender was super helpful at guiding me towards the right number of items and specific items. (I probably ordered 1 dish too many but it was a celebration meal!) Standout items were absolutely the sour cherries and the frena - truly 5/5 dishes. I also really liked everything else I had: the zucchini fritters, tahini soft serve (though I did not like that it was topped with pomegranate molasses - weird combo of flavors), toum, Citrus Gazoz, and peach/feta dish. I also got the rose wine special of the night which was quite good and paired well with the food. The bartender's recs and attention to me was a bright spot in the evening. Things I wish could be different: I solo dine often and almost always sit at the bar, but bar seating here when you get multiple dishes can be quite uncomfortable. There just isn't enough space for the size of the dishes used at the restaurant and the woman busing my dishes was pretty slow to respond when I had a fully empty dish. That said, when I went to the bathroom and had a ton of food on my plate she tried to throw my food away (if it weren't for the kind people sitting next to me who stopped her.) Later in the evening, despite telling her twice very clearly to box up my food, she threw it away and I only discovered this at the end of my meal. (The restaurant remade both items upon me telling them about it, even when I said I only really wanted one of them and it dragged the evening out when I just wanted to go home.) Moreover, despite the bartender putting in my whole order at the start of my meal, the restaurant forgot one of my dishes and didn't realize until I prompted them about it over an hour and fifteen minutes into my meal. (They ended up comping that item, which I appreciated, but it really set off the pacing and vibe of my evening and left me frustrated.) It was nice that the restaurant brought me a candle with my dessert and had several people tell me happy birthday but what I would have wanted more: just a good service experience at the restaurant. I overall really loved the food but at this price point expect something better for service. I do appreciate they were apologetic and always try to be understanding of restaurants on busy nights but this was too disappointing a service experience for me to look over.

Went with a friend for dinner and was only able to manage a reservation outside, but still decided to try it out. For food, we got the lebneh, pita, steak kabob. Food was great, especially the steak kabob. I'm not a huge fan of peas, but it was a great pairing with the steak. One thing that I noticed that wasn't the restaurant's fault was that the lebneh and my cocktail got warm really quickly because we were outside. The service was also not as quick - it took me 30 mins to grab someone to switch out my water because a leaf had fallen into it. I will have to try to get a reservation inside next time.

This might just be one of the absolute best restaurants in NYC, let alone that I've been to ever. Hailey our server was fantastic and gave incredible recommendations, and made our night memorable. The food was phenomenal and I am legit speechless. The jojoo chicken, tahini soft serve, hummus and whipped feta were just delicious. It was a wonderful evening. 5 out of 5 stars, would absolutely recommend. We will be back every single time we are in the city.
Simply one of the best dining experiences I have had.
I grew up on fantastic Lebanese food from family owned store fronts. This restaurant elevated the dishes while staying true to the cuisine. Got a seat at the bar opposite the line - dinner and a show. Service was polite, knowledgeable and there when you need them, but not overbearing. Walk ins welcome. The energy in here is amazing

I got a dinner reservation for my birthday and it was the best decision ever -- Shukette has instantly become one of my top favorite restaurants in NYC. It is a modern Middle Eastern diner giving a casual vibe. Every single dish blew our mind and I could confidently say I recommend everything I got. The bar and booth seatings are quite cramped and the restaurant is super busy, yet the service is still very attentive. Our server was so humorous and welcoming. He even offered us free soft serve to finish off the night. Hands down the best celebratory meal. *Not Your Average Hummus *** -- Must order to eat with the frena. *Smoked Arctic Char -- A mix of salmon, garlic aioli, lemon dill and onion. Delicious to eat by itself. *Frena *** -- I came for their signature frena and it really hit the spot. *Khachapuri * -- A grilled mozzarella sesame flatbread. So cheesy and flavorful. * Calamari a la Plancha *** -- Loved the citrusy and tangy kick. Cooked to perfection calamari. *Fluke Crudo * -- One of the bestselling appetizers. A bit spicy but appetizing. *Grilled Asparagus -- drizzled with yogurt dressing and crushed pistachio. *Grass-fed Steak Shish Kebab ** -- Medium rare meat filled with smoky flavor. Chef's kiss. *The Swirl (Tahini Soft Serve and Strawberry Sorbet) -- Both were great but I liked the tahini side a bit more!
Just okay for me
Had dinner at Shukette last week...here are my thoughts: Ambiance is great...lively but not too noisy. Service is friendly and I like how food comes at different times. Food itself is pretty good but nothing extraordinary. The bread was the best thing we ordered but at $10 a pop it was expensive. Fattoush salad was just okay. I didn't eat the lamb or beef but my family seemed to like it. Rice was dry and tasteless. Prices are really high here and I don't really see the value...I realize I'm in the minority but I doubt I'll be returning.
A. MA. ZING.
So, so good. One of my friends said it was one of the best meals she’s ever had. Get dips and frena bread. The meatballs and halloumi were out of this world. We will dream about this food. I wish we could have had eight of everything.
PERFECT MEAL!
so delicious!! came on a Thursday evening without a reservation and had no trouble getting a seat at the bar. everyone was lovely…hosts and servers. ordered hummus and meatballs and a bright pea salad…everything was uniformly delicious. just a fabulous spot!
Great food, outstanding service with very eclectic menu. Great Israeli med food served here.
We were looking for a special spit gur our 27 th anniversary and we settled here as it was near pier 62 after out architectural tour around the city by boat. The limited menu is no problem because it was all terrific. We had amazing meat balls with midfke eastern spices. The haloumi cheese baked with sauce snd the caca dip with pita was also excellent. We tied some of the special drinks and the fruits contained in them was a pleasant surprise reservations us a must unless you arrive before the 5 pm opening as long lines are the usual .
Really nice dinner
Great variety of different foods. All with so much flavour. We enjoyed the busy atmosphere, I’d recommend a table at the bar! Service was okay.
Bad food
Poor food, bad Labne , poor chicken , to much garlic and missing flavor …but the good service , we have better restaurants in NY certainly. I really not recommend .
SHUKETTE DELIVERS FLAVOR!
I have to say that I have eaten in restaurants all over, both small and grand. Shukette is an absolute food experience, one I’ve never experienced before! It was my first time having Middle Eastern food and, my goodness was it worth every dollar! That only was a service impeccable, but the servers were more than willing to explain every single thing on the menu for me. The spices were so incredibly savory, I literally enjoyed every single bite of everything. I tried, and trust me I try a lot, lol. Everything on the menu is meant to share, so share away! Kudos to the chef, Ayesha Nurdjaja! It is worth the hype! Go check it out!
We had a pretty cool experience sitting at the best seats
We had a pretty cool experience sitting at the best seats in the house at the chef's counter, I loved being able to watch how all the dishes come together! We loved the frenal bread, hummus, charred broccolini, shrimp skewer, beef Adana, and the steak shish kabab! The bang bang shata hot sauce, was so good we put it on everything! Our server was also the sweetest person ever!
Food, service and ambiance are all excellent.
But it is quite pricey and tables are hard to find.
wasn't sure what to expect as my friend picked this spot
wasn't sure what to expect as my friend picked this spot for dinner but it really surprised me! the food was delicious, prices were fair (for a decent place in nyc), and portions were filling! we had a res for 2 at 5:45 and the place was already packed. they sat us at the bar and we asked if we could move to a table - they let us move to an available table but let us know we had an hour time limit which we were fine with. the servers were v kind and attentive, esp given how crowded the place was/got (there was barely any room to walk out when we left as the line was huge so make sure to book a res!) the food came out relatively quickly, but we waited mostly on the steak shish kebab. the server recommended we get 1 dip, 1 bread, 3-4 apps, and 1 entree for the 2 of us. we ended up ordering 3 apps, 1 entree, and 1 dessert w the mindset that we might have to order more but after everything besides the dessert came we were already stuffed! the portions may look a bit small but they are def filling! the roasted cauliflower - had a nice charred taste and a great sauce that paired well w it. my friend said it tasted like meat! this was a great app w lots of flavor and wasn't too heavy shukette chicken nuggets - these were super juicy pieces of chicken which surprised me bc it's rare to find fried chicken that isn't dry inside. the seasonings were perfect and flavorful that it didn't need a dip and the outside had a great amount of crunch - not too hard, but the crisp is there! shukette pickles - my friend was more of a fan of these I'm not too much of a pickle girly personally so they didn't appeal to me as much but she LOVED them grass-fed steak shish kebab - the warm chickpea side it came on top of was probs the star of the show for me! it was super flavorful w a range of flavors that worked so well tgt! i would've licked the plate if I could. the meat itself was a bit chewy and the pieces on the bottom of the skewer were worse than the ones on top (might be diff cuts of meat?) but the chickpeas made up for it the mic drop - this might be a MUST order for me. at first I was thrown off by the price ($12 for a soft serve?!) but after my first bite, my mouth felt like it was in heaven! the soft serve itself is super creamy w an amazing tahini/sesame flavor which isn't too sweet but j right! the halva floss on top didn't really add any flavor or texture for me it seemed like it was more for presentation. the pomegranate syrup was extremely tart which served as a nice balance w the soft serve but too much of it threw me off (my friend hated it). the hazelnuts at the bottom added a great crunchy texture and complimented the soft serve well!
The waitress was attentive and helpful for first-timers!
The waitress was attentive and helpful for first-timers! The variety of food was exactly what we were looking for.
Everything was fresh and tasted good, though not mind
Everything was fresh and tasted good, though not mind blowing. My biggest gripe is that Shukette was overpriced with small portions (6 medium shrimp for 18, a small bread for 10, pies is ordered separately from dips). We were not full and spent 30/person on each. Service and ambience was fine- we sat outdoors in the non covered section and there happened to be lots of fire trucks blaring their alarms, but not the restaurant's fault, obviously. We decided to give Shukette a try after loving Shuka downtown. I would just stick with Shuka - I prefer the ambience there, and the food is more delicious and filling for less.

Excellent small dishes and fun to share make this a remarkable place to get together with friends!
Incredible food.
The scallop dish was fire. Pure umami with every bite. We also enjoyed the lamb skewers and meatballs. The egg dip and feta dip were both delicious.

One of my favorite restaurants in NYC! We sat at the bar and absolutely loved getting to watch the team at Shukette make the Frena! Pretty much everything on the menu is fabulous, we love the small plates, and I absolutely love all the seasonings of each dish. Coming from DC, we have some pretty top-notch middle eastern food, but this was sooo good and I can't wait to return!
Chefs counter us a fun experience if you get a good seat.
The chicken is our favorite and the cream bread is amazing. there are several dishes we would not order again and that includes all the dips that one would get for the Frena bread. Tried both kebabs, just okay and burnt myself on the steel (wrap it in a napkin)
Everything was delicious! Family style tapas style food.
Order everything!! All the dishes are flavorful, and unique and everything goes so well together. Their starters, dips, entrees, breads, and tahini ice cream were all delicious. Fun vibe, great staff, and they bring ice to your table for drinks, which uncommon, and an extra plus!
Great middle eastern food
Excellent food - we enjoyed the Tunisian egg salad, Fava dip, frena, citrus salad, grilled merguez kofta, charred cabbage, lamb skewer and the steak skewer. Standouts were the citrus days with Cara cad, blood oranges urfa, chili, mint, olives and honey and the kofta ( lamb and beef meatballs). Very lively atmosphere and reservations are an absolute must. Drinks were forgettable.
Must Go
Incredible ! Inside is cooler vibes. Outdoor space works though for winter as it’s entirely enclosed and heated. Food is insane. Highlights - Frena bread, broccoli, cauliflower, seasonal squash dish was 100++, white harissa dip. Fries and labneh were skippable. Boys loved the chicken and the lamb balls. Famous tahini froyo dessert is was also skippable.
Mediterranean delight!
Wow! This place is an amazing tour of unique and delicious Mediterranean food. The service was impeccable. Kudos to Chef Ayesha and her vision. We were regaled.
Delish
I get the draw here. Food is superb! 10 out of 10! The only reason for 4 stars are bc of a few missteps, although corrected, need to be addressed. I made the rez for 2ppl, 8:45pm on a Wednesday, outdoor table bc that's all I was able to get at a reasonable time. It's taken me forever to get a rez bc you can only book 2 weeks out and most times they're already booked out or too late (ie 10pm or later). We got there at 8:40pm and the hostess said they're just waiting for our table to clear out. We waited outside, luckily a cool night, bc it was already too crowded inside. There were a few tables that came after us that were seated inside. I checked on the rez at 9pm and still no luck. The mgr came out at about 9:05pm with a couple, small glasses of bubbly, which was lovely, and she even admitted was taking long. Another host came out (hoping was for us), but approached other people and seated them in the outdoor shed. He then came to us and told us still not ready for an outdoor table. I mentioned that the table he just seated came after us and seated before us. If their rez was at 8:30pm and arrived after we did, then they should have lost their rez & seated after us. He said let me see what I can do and miraculously found a table inside, which was great. The waiter was busy, but friendly and professional. We ordered beet dip, wings, crispy shrimp, roasted cauliflower, fries (to start) and lamb skewers & fish in a cage (mains). He said the beet dip doesn't come with anything (not even pita!) so we should order some bread. He recommended frena. $12 dip with no bread and $10 bread. Ok, fine. When the bread came out we waited for the dip which we had to ask 3 people for the dip which is why we ordered the bread. It finally came and the waiter said he'd take it off the bill since that, too, took too long. The food comes out when ready and in no particular order which is fine, but I mean make it make sense. After the starters, came the lamb. We still were using the small appetizer plates after eating all 4 apps. Then the fish arrived and I asked for new plates. He tried taking the one I was eating off of and I said I'm not finished but would like a new plate for the 2nd entree. He came right away, but waited there until I finished so that he can take the plate which was just weird. Mind you, I had ordered 1 drink, finished it during the app round and it sat at the corner of the table, never taken away, nor anyone ask if I wanted another one. For the food, 1 drink, 25% tip all came to about $210 for 2ppl. Not cheap, but as mentioned, all delicious. Other things to note: the crowd skews young & hip which was fine, but the place is super loud even with cork on the walls and ceiling, so not a great place for conversation which is fine since you'll be inhaling your food.
Great food and service!
One of the best meals we’ve had in Manhattan so far! Great service - the waiter gave us advice on how many dishes to order and his personal recommendations. We had Labneh which was fresh and the roasted garlic on the bread was perfect! Great choice of different types of dishes and very good wine/beer list too! Would highly recommend!

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
