Finally a good Chinese food spot in the area! The pot stickers are awesome and made fresh. The chow mein yummy and not greasy. Tastes like they use all fresh ingredients. The people are very nice and the decor is bright and clean.

We have some regular Sichuan restaurants in the area, but a quick Google search turned up Sichuan House and we had to give it a try. Thankfully, we came with family so we got to try many dishes, both Sichuan and non-Sichuan, and all in all, the food is okay. It isn't the best or most authentic Sichuan restaurant in the area so if you're after that authentic taste, I think it's worth the drive out to El Cerrito to eat at Sichuan Fusion, which I'd consider to be one of the best in the East Bay. Sichuan Fortune House in Pleasant Hill is another option if you don't feel like driving out of the way. Here's what we tried: 1. 夫妻肺片 (beef tripe, beef flake combination) - it's a cold appetizer and was alright, a bit salty, a bit sweet, not very spicy, and not very numbing. 2. 水煮魚片 (sichuan spicy boiled fish fillet) - it's fish braised with celery and napa cabbage braised in a spicy broth. The fish was quite fishy (not sure what kind of fish they used) and the flavor was really mild and lacking; not very numbing at all. 3. 幹扁四季豆 (dry cooked green bean) - these were alright but not super blistered like they normally are, and didn't have any of the preserved mustard greens 4. 蒜茸大豆苗 (sauteed green pea sprouts) - actually, we ordered this (and paid for it), but totally didn't realize it never came out! 5. 四川擔擔面 (spicy tan tan noodle) - this was probably one of the better dishes, though still very mild in flavor 6. 重慶辣子雞 (chongqing style spicy chicken wings) - this was a bit disappointing; very sweet, not very spicy, and not numbing at all 7. 核桃蝦 (prawns with honey glazed walnuts) - not really authentic Sichuan, but it was not bad. I think everyone felt they were way too sweet We had a few other dishes and a couple of soups as well. The hot and sour soup (not really Sichuanese) was quite bad. Service was fine but you don't really go to a Chinese restaurant for its service do you? :P Overall, there was a common theme. All the Sichuan dishes were dumbed down (not very spicy and lacking ma la) and sweeter than you'd normally have them. If you've had authentic Sichuan food, you know that the flavors explode in your mouth and blanket your tongue with the warming, citrus-y, numbing sensation. Perhaps its the demographic they cater to, but the food did not taste very authentic.

The is delicious and unique from any Chinese restaurant I have eaten at before. Luncheon specials are generous and very reasonable. You can order Clay Pots.

If you're in the concord area this is the place to go for authentic Chinese cuisine. Me and my office manager always find a day weekly to go grab some good lunch from this place. The clay pot is amazing ! The Mongolian beef one of the best I've ever had . I've also had the seafood soup for lunch and wonton which I highly recommend!!!

Been back a couple times (not as often as it really should be considering how much I like this place) since my last review. I finally tried the mapo tofu! It comes very close to tasting like what I had in China many years ago. I'm very excited that I have a place close to home to get some. I also order the sichuan crispy beef. I love that they don't skimp out on the spice. Random thing I really like about the dish is that all the veggies are cut pretty big. Last thing I ordered was chicken chow mien. It's solid, nothing to write home about. The service was very efficient. The two women working the front of the house were on it. They were hustling while also being aware of who needed what. When they told me 20 minutes, they were pretty spot on with that estimate. Continuing to be a happy return customer.

Great selection, large menu that includes some Chinese American favorites, some dim sum, and some traditional items. Came with my wife on a Saturday evening. Plenty of seating. Staff was friendly and attentive. Portions were huge! Had the sizzling rice prawns, chow mein, and eggplant in garlic sauce. All of it was good. I especially recommend the sizing rice and prawns.

Super friendly staff and great food. A family run business. The ladies at reception are always at the toes serving customers. The weekdays (no holidays) lunch combo is great, fresh and great value for money. Highly recommend!

It doesn't matter whether I dine in or take to go food, It's always consistent. And I appreciate that. The staff is always extremely friendly.

Their chili oil is even better. I have a feeling that the chili oil is made in-house, as the quality is really good. The staff is friendly, and is our go-to spot on Sundays. It's family friendly, so be prepared to eat family style. They were very accommodating for our big group.

Love this place!! The servers are very friendly and the food is delicious. I used to live in China but haven't been there now for almost three years; the excellent service / kindness of the staff here always brings back beautiful memories of my time there. :) It can be tricky to find this type of feeling/experience here in the States, but this place does it for me! Highly recommend!

Sichuan House, Walnut Creek (my 9th review): 14 December 2022I had always had good experience until my visit here in 2017. The food was mediocre and the service questionable. However, my experience today was stellar. The service was exceptionally good and the food was outstanding.
Be the first to ReplyBig disappointment.
Place has a good reputation. My coworker recommended it. My wife ate there twice before and it wasn't bad at all. So, our family of 3 went for dinner on Saturday at 7 pm anticipating something new and special. Spacious, clean room but very few customers for weekend eve. Friendly staff, quick service, good size portions (not too big, not too small). Everything else (I am talking now about food) was between mediocre and bad. Spring rolls, I should admit, were good. Pancakes are nothing special but eatable. Deluxe Seafood Soup was neither deluxe nor really seafood. Very bleak look, bland taste, a lot of tofu, barely any seafood. Sweet and Sour Fish was not bad but too soft. Fried Rice Combination didn't seem to be fried and all ingredients were tasteless. Finally, lamb was oversalted to the point of being uneatable. We mentioned it to hostess, she took it to kitchen to replace, brought it back soon after with apologies. We tasted it and it was the same oversalted lamb. It looked like they brought the same plate back. We left it untouched, very politely mentioned to hostess that we couldn't it it. She was surprised, apologetic but charged us for it. Maybe it was a bad day for them, new cook, or maybe it's a pattern based on several negative reviews. We will not go back and cannot recommend it for you.
Be the first to ReplyI love Sichuan house and it is in my opinion the overall
I love Sichuan house and it is in my opinion the overall best Sichuan Food East of the Caldecott (price plus quality). Sichuan fortune house is also excellent, but for me the mainstays of spicy fish in boiling hot pot (or as I affectionately call it, "hot sauce fish"), chicken and seafood clay pot, braised tofu with shredded pork, and mapo tofu are outstanding. The quantities are solid and the value for the price is what sets it apart from Sichuan Fortune House (slightly more expensive). The lunch specials in particular are an outstanding value and I will often order the lunch specials only to save them for dinner. Have nothing but positive reviews for Sichuan House.

Especially the noodles. We ordered jiajiang main and seafood noodles. Tasted good. My husbands likes the peanuts and pickles. 5 stars
