Silks Burswood Reviews from The Last Year
Not worth the money they charge
At first arriving at the restaurant the waitress wanted to place us in small corner table, we politely asked if there was anywhere we can sit that’s a little more open? The waitress rolled her eyes at us. We then were greeted by a lovely waitress that was very pleasant and helpful. We ordered some lobster spring rolls, battered lobster and something else i can’t remember, however we waited about 35min to get our spring rolls, then waited a further 40min before we had to ask for the mains to be served, they then bought them out in about 5min so I think they forgot our order as they where not that busy at all. When we tried the crispy lobster it tasted like it had been cooked in dirty or burnt oil, and was not eatable at all. The other dish was ok but not up to the standard of what I expected from the cream casino. When the waitress come back and told us that the chef advised her it’s cooked fine and there is nothing wrong with the oil. When we asked to speak to the chef the waitress started crying and said that’s what the chef told me to tell you, I felt so bad for her I tipped her and we paid the bill and I can honestly say I will never dine here ever again. The food is just not up to what you would expect for the prices they charge.
My wife and I went out for dinner for the first time since
My wife and I went out for dinner for the first time since having a child. We were excited to spend time together and agreed to push the budget and try somewhere fancy. When the bill came we decided to get a divorce and sell our house. Food: Very limited vegetarian options (3 in total...look out). Ordered the crispy eggplant and yolk but couldn't eat more than 2 pieces. The combined disco of cornflower and oil started a fight in my stomach. $32 for two bites. If you're on a diet I'd recommend this dish as a reminder not to eat fried food. It's also a good way to slim down your wallet. The entree was 2x standard cocktail spring rolls. No fancy filling, no garnish. At $12 I could have bought 3 bags from Spud Shed. My wife and I sold our jewellery to an elderly couple at the next table. Service: Ordered drinks that never came. Later tried our luck and asked for a bottle of water. Come time to pay the bill found out it was $10. I should have kept the bottle and sold it on ebay. Someone sold a chip in the shape of Elvis once, sadly this was just a normal bottle with tap water in it. If you're feeling thirsty I'd try and sneak a few sips from the toilet and hope they don't charge you for it. Ambiance: The lights were dim. So dim apparently that the wait staff couldn't see us trying to get their attention. We politely locked eyes and smiled at every server like we were recruiting for a cult. They all looked through us. I began to suspect we died at some point and were now ghosts haunting the table. All in all we left more hungry than we arrived but $100 down. As we sold the last of our possessions to a homeless man in the carpark we began to remember why we don't leave the house. As my stomach digested the hefty combination of 1x spring roll, 2x bites of fried eggplant and 20ml of water I felt lucky to have shared the experience with my soon to be ex-wife and looked forward to never trying new things again. If you're looking for a dimly lit restuarant that charges fees for merely existing this is the place for you. An upchuck away from Crown casino and just as fund draining. The food will make you grateful there's a pack of Jatz in your cupboard.
2nd time last time
2nd time dining here 1st was expensive but ok next expensive and average we could not get the attention of drinks waiter and so didn't have a chance to enjoy wine or 2nd glass of room temperature tap water with our meal. Sorry but for very expensive meal you would expect prompt and professional service not a soulless waiter with a hint of I don't care . Fortunately we get better service from local county Chinese restaurant serviced by the local teenagers who smile.
No free car parking and limited choice of food.
No more free parking even with group orders and spending $2,000 in total bill. Food was so so as compared to other real Chinese restaurants in North Bridge. Silk used to be fairly good but standard drop so much and price went up. Not worth eating there when we have so many choices available with real tasty food in Northbridge.
Ridiculous holiday surcharge
Decided to go here for lunch on cup day. Was seated looking out across the Yarra. Service was quite good and we decided on the All you can eat Yum Cha. Things went down hill after that. The Yum Cha menu was extremely limited with many of the better offerings available for extra purchase. The All you can eat was $68p/P. So we had prawn, prawn and chives, and shu mai dumplings. All were out of the packet and below average. The crispy pork and crispy noodles was not at all crispy. Fried rice was bland. There was a choice of selected spring rolls, but prawn spring rolls cost extra. No ginger prawn dumplings, no shark fin dumplings, no scallop dumplings. Very poor offerings. Chinese tea cost extra. And on the way out a 15% surcharge for the holiday on top of the bill. For $160 for two we could have had a full banquet in China Town, and no holiday surcharge.
Very poor food
The service is very good. The food is average at best. We went with friends on Monday night before going to Hamer Hall for a show. I don't know who is in the kitchen but they are not doing a good job. Salt and Pepper calamari is deep fried! What? The noodles were ok - slapped on the plate. The duck pancake and the beef tenderloin were both good dishes. We have been here on a quite a few occasions and after this experience we won't bother again. Such a shame given its fabulous location.
Really average service
We booked this restaurant to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary and we’re so looking forward to the evening. We placed our order and requested that the entree come out and then a delay before the main arrived as we wanted to enjoy the occasion. The entree arrived and was really nice, we again requested a delay before the main course arrived. We had not finished our entree by 5 minutes and out came the main course, when we questioned why it had not been delayed as requested we got “oh sorry “ and a smile. We only managed one drink as the staff buzzed all around other tables but didn’t come anywhere near us. We really felt as though all the staff want us to do was eat up, pay the bill and get out. In the end we we got up paid the bill and left disappointed, not with the food but the pretty average service for a restaurant with such a high end reputation. We won’t be back sorry.
Average food
Good service, great decor but quality of food was average at best. The lemon chicken was more like KFC than anything memorable.
5 star Chinese restaurant
If you want an exceptional 5 star Chinese restaurant you need to check out Silks. We attended their 10 year anniversary which was a selection of delicious food pairing with wine. The food was delicious and scrumptious. The staff were very professional and polite.
Disappointing this time
Silks used to be great .It is very average now.Our food was Lukewarm The salt and pepper golden prawns were cold ,tasteless .they use to be our favourite. The honey pepper and ginger beef had a very strange taste and once again cold.Very unpleasant .It took over an hour to get our main.I think it had been sitting there a while .we won’t rush back in a hurry. It’s a shame as the venu is lovely. The staff weren’t over friendly either .
Pre show dinner
We booked this as a pre-show dinner. The service was excellent (fromEdith) who helped us with the menu, so that we didn’t over order. Food arrived quickly and was of good quality. Would go again.
