Given that cost per person is $200- +300, and most nights
Given that cost per person is $200- +300, and most nights it's crowded, you would think the owner would be more pleasant. Not our Italian stallion-- he walks among his patrons like a victorious gladiator, or maybe his secret is the Achilles heal of his UES crowd --Appeal is always inversely proportional to attainability. Or perhaps it's because this restaurant has no competition in the immediate neighborhood, or perhaps the patrons enjoy being told what to do by a waiter from Queens. Which is note worthy as there are a handful of excellent Italian restaurants there, at a fraction of the cost. Last night when I told my waiter I want to order a drink, before I order food, his response was "let me tell you the specials before it gets to crowded- and when I asked for a basket of bread, his response was "you can have bread when you order your food." Didn't know I was being trained for the NYC kennel club. This is outrageous behavior and I'm paying for it ! Could be the UES clients like abuse, or are too lazy to venture into other areas in NYC where there are abundant Italian restaurants with superior food. I talked with some friends who also frequent this S&M club fronting as a restaurant and they agree with me. no Michelin star here, just an expensive spaghetti joint - truffles on everything $$$.... The food....don't know- l left after one drink !

I Recently went to Sistina expecting to have an excellent dining experience.. My expectations were shattered the moment I was seated. A waiter came over and immediately gave us a menu. We ordered two drinks and and the waiter then said, "Have you decided on what to order?" We had been there a total of 10 minutes and was hoping to have a nice leisurely meal.We were then informed that a large party was expected and it was important that we place our order before the group arrived. We then hurriedly looked at the menu and ordered a bowl of soup and some Veal Milanese. The soup arrived within minutes followed by the main course. At this point we had been in the restaurant no more than 20 minutes. Decidedly this was turning out to be a a quickie meal that one might have at a local diner but this was at a restaurant which charges approx. $100.00 a per person! The soup was fine but the Veal Millanese was TERRIBLE. It had been cooked to death and frankly tasted like a piece of cardboard. Though my companion had been a regular for years we were treated without any consideration. We politely complained about the meat being overcooked and tasteless. It frankly tasted like CARDBOARD but we were told that they could not replace this with anything else. At this point, we decided to leave. We placed $ 100.00 in cash at the table which we felt would cover 2 bowls of soup and 2 cocktails and an untouched glass of wine. The owner however, went to the front door and would not let us leave! He said he had called the police! At this point we placed another $ 50.00 on a table and left. RUDE SERVICE WITH OUTRAGEOUS PRICES! WRITING THIS TO WARN FUTURE DINERS.
Be the first to ReplyLa Sistina is an upscale spot on the UES.
I recommend sitting in the garden room if possible, which is well lit and bright. There is also some cool art decorating the restaurant. The service was good, and I appreciated the selection of breads and three kinds of butter to start. The restaurant has a very large specials menu, which I ordered from. I got the scallops and potato puree. It was pretty filling and the scallops were cooked well, but I wish there was more variety and flavors with the dish. The scallops had a nice texture, but definitely lacked flavor, and the combination of the scallops and potato could get a bit tiring by itself. I wish the dish had a bit of acid to lighten it as well. The dish I ordered was okay but not terribly impressive.

While the ambience is lovely the service is arrogant, slow and much less than gracious. They are unwilling to accommodate requests for half portions of pasta at lunch, very unusual. I ordered two appetizers one a salad and another a seafood. The salad was supposed to have shaved truffles but there was not one bit of truffle, only very artificial and overly strong flavor of truffle oil. There were very intense overpowering garlic chips and a cloyingly sweet sheepmilk ricotta spread underneath the lettuces. It was a strange combination of flavors that should never have been on the same plate. The seafood appetizer included tasteless shrimp covered by clashing overpowering flavors of orange, garlic and jalapeรฑo, which should have worked but somehow did not. Perhaps the proportions were wrong. It was an unpleasant, disappointing and very expensive meal. Most of it remained on the plates.
Be the first to ReplyThis was our first time at the restaurant.
The ambience is lovely. The room is quite nice. No music is a plus. The crowd is old and well dressed, by that I mean sport jackets . The weight staff was wonderful, and the food quite good. When you first sit down, they place prosciutto and cheese on the table as you peruse the menu. The reason I write this review is because they actually charge $50 for this dish which no one actually ordered. I presumed this was on the house, so to speak. Unfortunately I noticed I was charged for it. After spending $400 for two people it seems very petty. If they want to charge, they should put it on the menu and let the customer decide to order it. They may have gained $50, but they lost a customer JWolfson
Be the first to ReplyTerrible customer service.
They are unresponsive when calling, they do not have a voicemail setup either and you cannot change your reservation via a third party app even if you made it on Opentable. It's a scam that they want to make it as hard as possible to cancel or change your reservation so they can make money off of you. We were sick with COVID and tried multiple times ot get in touch with this restaurant and they still charged us. Seems like they wanted us to show up sick and spread COVID in their restaurant.

True Italian cuisine - in a cozy, quiet, and beautiful framework. The chef owner is an art collector. You see drawings by Matisse on the walls. The wine list is amazing!
Be the first to ReplyQuite possibly the best restaurant in NYC.
I hesitate to tell people about Sistina in hopes of keeping it a secret, but they more than deserve the recognition. Although the menu is stunning, I've never once eaten off of it because of how well cultivated their specials are. Impeccable service with a classic UES feel. Would be surprised if a Michelin star wasn't on the way.

We made a reservation for Christmas Eve one month ago after reviewing the online menu. They called a week away and said it is a 250 dollar price fixe menu that they still haven't decided on.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a nightmare at Sistina tonight.
The waiter insisted that we order right away because the restaurant was going to be busy. We told him we weren't ready to order food as we had just ordered drinks . We said that we hadn't even looked at the menu so it would be awhile. He then brought out the owner who proceeded to give us a lecture in a very loud and obnoxious way. And by then he was yelling at us and we yelled right back at him. He behaved like a lunatic and the entire restaurant was shocked by his crude and distasteful remarks. Then he told us he wasn't going to serve us. I'd never experienced anything like this and I am a native New Yorker. The owner clearly has an anger management problem and you would have to be crazy to eat in this vile restaurant with it's vile owner rushing you out of the restaurant.

Before arriving we looked at the menu online and I decided on rabbit for my main course. Upon arrival we were told the did not have the rabbit. ok . Then after perusing the hundred plus page wine list I asked for Chianti. They did not have it either. We were up sold on another Chianti which was very good. By the end of the evening Bruno, the owner, was furious with my two guests, both women, and swearing at them loudly in the main dining room. Fuck you were his words. We will never return nor recommend this place to anyone. The bill was $900.00 .Barry L.

Whenever I visit a city, I always look for the best Italian restaurants. I found Sistina on Open Table. The menu looked fantastic so I made a reservation. It's a wonderful cozy restaurant. we sat at the bar and had two of the most fantastic pasta dishes I've tasted. My friend had the gnocci in a porcini mushroom sauce and I had the raviolis. I have attached photos so you can see their magnificence. I highly recommend Sistina when you're in NYC.

This place deserves all the awards it has won and all the accolades it has received. Service was impeccable. Three attendants and not one overbearing. They just showed up at the right time. This was a special 4 course Valentine Day special. It was way too much food and exquisitely prepared. I had the mixed seafood platter. Even the vegetables on the plate were perfect. I highly recommend this place and I can't wait to come back.
Be the first to ReplyI have always considered Sistina one of the most beautiful
I have always considered Sistina one of the most beautiful restaurants in Manhattan. The artwork alone is hard to beat. The food is also excellent as is the service. I knew the original owner of Sistina and you have been true to his tradition and high standards. Bravi!

We were looking forward to dining here before we went to the Jerry Seinfeld show but 1 week before the show, we received a message from the restaurant that they were closed for a private party. We ended up eating at a walk-in restaurant. Very frustrating. I was upset because of the short notice. They should have blocked off the date when we made reservations. Not good business.

We will dine there again soon when we return to NYC.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Italian food.
Great service. It's not cheap but it's worth it. I eat at the bar or at a table and both experiences have been excellent.

Was very easy to get reservations on a Friday evening, too easy. Great service. Nice decor. Was here with wife and kids. Decent food. Not great - many other Italian places have as good or better food IMO (been to plenty of hole in walls to most 3 Michelin Star restaurants). Even opted for fresh shaved white truffles on our risotto but very $$$ - waiter didn't say price until afterwards. Unfortunately, what was the most shocking part was we asked for a side of raw tomatoes for our son since that was his vegetable for dinner. The bill for that item alone just for sliced tomatoes was $30. Definitely, not coming back.
Be the first to ReplySat outside under the heaters for dinner with family.
Everything was delicious and everyone had a great time. Staff was wonderful and even brought blankets for those who got chilly. Appetizers and pasta dish was so good- I had such a hard time deciding what to get.
Be the first to ReplyI really love coming to this place.
Every time you are treated with a fantastic, authentic Italian meal. Chef/owner Bruno has extremely high standards and the fact he continues to execute at such a high level after all these years is amazing! The place is pricey and a bit of a scene for the upper east side, but it's beautiful setting in a classic townhouse and it's on point staff make for a fun experience. I love that every time you visit chef greets you with amazing specials. I like to go with those. Last time I had the artichoke hearts (so good) and the uni pasta. I shared the rabbit which was moist and flavorful as well as the Vongole. All were tasty. Drink menu is vast and cocktails are done on point. They also have a crushed Calabrian chili. I love this stuff, i put it on everything.

The food was fine, no better and so expensive! $18 corn and crab soup for lunch? wow. I had a fine but unspectacular buccatini al amatriciana and a (nice) glass of wine and it was nearly $70 with tip. For lunch. Nice outdoor area and when I walked in to sue the restroom I was surprised at how nice a room the inside space is. Also fun, anthropologically speaking, to eat with the ladies who lunch.
Be the first to ReplyWe found a great new spot one block from the Met.
We sat outside in their beautifully set up tent. The space is beautiful. The waitstaff from hostess, managers and runners were all friendly. We had the tomato salad with Mozzarella Di Buffala and ย and the summer ย green salad with figs, walnuts, dates and goat cheese. They give you bread sticks and a basket of sourdough bread. We went inside to see the restaurant space which was crowded. The 4th floor has an art gallery that was closed today so we'll try to see it next time.
