Six by Nico have numerous restaurants throughout the UK
Six by Nico have numerous restaurants throughout the UK offering a six-course tasting menu at what on paper looks like a reasonable price of £29 per head, owned and headed by Nico Simeone who set up their first location in Glasgow. I decided to take advantage of the Eat Out To Help Out Offer, which got £10 off my meal funded by the government, reducing the price down to £19. Tables booked up quickly for the month and when I attended it was very busy, mainly down to that promotion - People just can't help themselves.Inside, the decor is nice with the open kitchen, the atmosphere is good and the staff are super friendly but it seems that is where the positives end.I was disappointed with every single plate, I think they did a poor job adapting their menu to be gluten-free, and it ended up repeating items or replacing them to the point I didn't recognise the dish from the menu anymore, I really do think they should also print a gluten-free menu which allows people to know what they're getting, rather than just catering blindly. The food, by comparison, was night and day, and it left me kicking myself to be a coeliac watching impressive plates come out to other people. My first course was basically a salad with some sort of fried potato, stuck together in what looked like a lump of spaghetti, I found it to be hard and tasteless, the pickled vegetables which are common here really isn't my food.I found the dishes with fish to either be chewy or undercooked, the same could be said regarding the meat dish which was supposed to resemble a mini steak which was flavoured well but just really chewy. The most impressive dish in terms of the eyes was the "Smoked Sausage" dish served in a dome with steam coming off it, but that impressive nature ceased to exist when it came to taste, the texture of the meat just wasn't good and the side was the worst item out of everything being served by far, the sweet potato was rancid and sickly, accompanied by something else and covered in the horrible, hard potato which looks like spaghetti from the first course. The dessert was also pretty poor, it was supposed to be a deep-fried Mars bar, but what I got was a bitter chocolate mess, to be fair the blood orange sorbet was the only item on the whole 6-course menu I found to be edible and I finished that small part of the plate, but again the bed of chocolate was hard and uninspiring, it just got in the way of the sorbet and went to ruin the one edible thing they served. My friend ordered the gluten version for herself and even she complained that the "deep-fried mars bar" tasted or looked nothing like one, still it looked much better than my gluten-free bitter mess! The staff noticed I didn't eat much and was unhappy, they did offer me to contact the manager to try and adapt their future menus which is something I felt excited about, they did still charge me the full price though of £19 each (my friend also didn't eat many of her courses) + £10 which was funded by the government scheme. It left me hungry and I had to end up going somewhere else to dine afterwards, which considering the time and money spent here just isn't good enough.

This was a fantastic restaurant I'm going to give it a rare five star review. I rank it up there with the best vegan options in New York City. The ambience is strong but not super romantic. But the area is great too. The dessert was off chart.

Went to Six By Nico other week for a "Friendma" - Christmas get together with friends. Six By Nico changes its menu every 6 weeks with a different tasting menu. We went during the Mad Hatter's Tea Party theme - so lots of the things not as they seem. For example the Steak Tartare was not actually steak/meat. Also the menu was edible - apparently anyway! Tasted edible. LOL. All of it was good, unusual because of the theme. Favourite dish was the sole (fish). Delicious. Lovely fish, lovely flavour, plenty of garlic (black garlic emulsion). Yum!! We also shared a few of the snacks and got the Aperitif:APERITIF"Through the Looking Glass"Edinburgh Gin/Elderflower/Raspberry Tea/Drink Me PotionSNACKChicken Caesar Salad CroquetteEAT ME, DRINK ME!!!Mushroom Consomme, Parmesan & Truffle Empire BiscuitCourse 2CHESHIRE COPY CATChicken Liver Parfait, Orange Jelly, Toasted SourdoughCourse 3STEAK TARTARE?Goats Cheese Pannacotta, Green Olive Tapenade, Tomato Tartare,"Yoghurt Yolk"Course 4CHECKMATESole, Black Garlic Emulsion, Cauliflower, Lemon Verbena Foam.Course 5OFF WITH HIS HEADPork Fillet, Head Croquette, Black Pudding, Roasted Carrot & Spiced PruneCourse 6QUEEN OF HEARTSWhite Chocolate Mousse, Red Velvet Cake, Raspberry, Pecan Brittle. So overall really good food - if you want this exact menu I think you have a few days left - although probably fully booked now?? The next menu is a "best of" and the pork fillet dish is one of the possible contenders. Personally I would have picked the fish dish from the menu.
